Niko Porikos grew up in an NTDP billet home. Cool story.

A few corrections:
1. They don't show a pick against State. They show a 60 yard screen pass from John Wangler to Craig Dunaway. In the movie, that play is called back for clipping. In the actual game, there was no clipping and we scored a TD on that drive.
2. The only character that trashes blue and the helmets is Jeff Goldblum's character, who was supposed to be a wise guy kind of a*hole anyway. One of the other characters actually defends Bo, saying he's got enough to worry about.
But still, given that that movie was written by a Michigan alum, that line about the helmets being the ugliest in football should have never made the script.
And truth be told, the whole ending of asking your husband to go upstairs and knock up your best friend was....bizarre.

You can remember a time where Bennie Joppru had a drop? I never remember him dropping a pass. I was amazed that he wasn't thrown to more often.

Fondly remember Steve Breaston's 95 yard kickoff return for a TD against Minnesota in 2005. Too bad our D decided to let Maroney scamper down the field so the Gophers could win it with a field goal on the final play.
Breaston always seemed to have his best performances during soul crushing losses.

I can't explain it myself. I think the team was shell-shocked. And just when you couldn't pick your mouth up off the floor enough, the ball gets hiked over Brady's head.
That game (as well as the heartbreaker against Northwestern the following year) came immediately following bye weeks. Everyone pretty much felt like if this was how Michigan was going to play after a bye week, please no more bye weeks.

The way Tennessee lost to Florida a couple weeks ago was brutal for them. The Gators converted a 4th & 12 from their own territory and it ended up going 60 yards for the go ahead TD with just a minute left in the game. Then the Vols barely missed the game winning FG on the last play.

This seems like an odd game to show on a Thursday night. For so many years, Thursday night games usually consisted of VaTech, Louisville, Kansas State, South Carolina or Clemson playing a weakling or some random teams from the Mountain West meeting.
Did Thursday night games make an upgrade the last few years and I just didn't notice?

No. You deserve better. If you want a clown show, you go to the circus.
Here. Watch the 1981 game instead.

You actually wanted to rewatch that game? Do you really hate yourself that much?

There was much grumbling about that team going to the Fiesta Bowl because they were unranked. But BCS rules stated they HAD to accept a Big East team so UConn went.
Stat wise, Michigan had their worst defense in school history that year and we still held UConn to 10 points. Although I do remember them losing a fumble from the 6 in that game.
But your overall point is still right. Edsall got that program from 4-7 to a consistent 8-5 every year with a 9-4 year in-between.

I'm going to follow the usual mantra of a Michigan fan not being happy unless they are miserable.
There's such a thing as too much praise too soon. We haven't played the real meat of our schedule yet. I'd almost prefer it if the press were overlooking or disrespecting us.

I was at that game. And the crowd loved him.
The friends I was sitting with that day were in the MMB with him in the early 90's and they told me he had the reputation for being a tool. But he puts on a good show. So he has that going for him.

Poor Navarre. I remember hearing groans from the crowd even when he was running on the field to lead the offense AT THE SPRING GAME.
That was a bizarre situation that I never understood. He was a great QB. And there was never an interview I saw with him where he didn't come across as a really nice person. He constantly worked his ass off despite the constant criticism.

I wonder how the MMB members decided who would get to be on TV. (That's just a small portion of the band.) Did they go with section leaders and drill instructors? Or did they arm wrestle for the TV spots?

Soooo, I just turned the game on expecting the Lions to already be down 14-0 and it's 0-0.
What's going on?

Maybe offensively. But their results this year are not much to write home about. Indiana beat Southern Illinois 48-47, and they beat Western Kentucky 38-35. They needed a second half comeback to beat FIU.
|4 days 8 hours ago||It's interesting that they||
It's interesting that they only discuss the 5 downs but have no explanation for why the clock stopped on the second to last play. The game should have ended there.
And that Missouri radio announcer is surprisingly calm given what just happened when he says, "Why did the clock stop?" Compare that to Frank Beckman who completely lost his sh*t when Spartan Bob gave MSU that extra second in 2001.
|4 days 8 hours ago||The 5th down given to||
The 5th down & goal given to Colorado in 1990 was bad but that was the first year college football allowed you to spike the ball to stop the clock. The rule was so new that the Missouri crowd and opposing sideline didn't notice when Colorado spiked the ball on 4th down. The head official of that game didn't realize what had happened until he was actually driving home from the stadium that day and he had to pull to the side of the road to throw up.
If a rule is new, the ref should be aware of it. It's not a defense. But I can kind of see where confusion could arise.
That OSU/KSU game issue was incompetence that should not happen today. And the ref for last year's Minnesota game at the big house should have known that if you call timeout after your QB loses his helmet, he doesn't have to sit out a play.
|4 days 11 hours ago||The only thing that really||
The only thing that really made me livid was the false start on 3rd and 2, which ended up forcing us to kick another field goal right before halftime.
It was another happy Saturday for me except for some jackass teams winning.
Question: Are we going to continue going after every single punt? I'm more worried about our guys running into the kicker than ever.

2002 OSU...ugh. Don't remind me of that team. I'm still in shock over that miracle 4th quarter touchdown pass they got to beat the "mighty" 6 loss Purdue Boilers by the score of 10-6. Or a few weeks later when they had to go into overtime to beat an awful Illinois team. Or the several other games against awful competition where they barely escaped.

Yes. The 4-0 start in 09 and the 5-0 start in 2010, we knew we were in deep sh*t after barely surviving Indiana. Not that the D looked particularly strong before that either.

Ball State led them at halftime. Had about equal stats on the ground (182) and through the air (178).
NU came back in the third quarter but could do nothing in the 4th quarter allowing Ball State to come back and close within 5.
|5 days 11 hours ago||Probably. I know||
Probably. I know Northwestern has a freshman QB, I don't know his stats, I'll have to look them up.
If we can avoid turnovers (I know, big if) we'll be in pretty good shape. Rudock doesn't have to be a super star, just have a solid afternoon. If he could finally hook up on one of those deep passes to Chesson, I think that could do a world of wonders.
But yes, I'm prepared for a slugfest.
|5 days 11 hours ago||The better question is, after||
The better question is, after what we've seen the last two years, is Michigan/Northwestern going to be another game where football goes to die? Football so ugly it might give you eye cancer?
Maybe the change of scenery from two straight in Evanston will change that. How great would it be to go all BYU on them? If the Northwestern team that played Ball State shows up at the big house, we may just get that. But that would be too cool. In reality, we'll probably be playing the Northwestern team who beat Stanford.
