Brings back memories of Hot Dog Man getting ejected for sling-shotting hot dogs to the student section in 2006.

Growing up, I would say this game has to be at noon, noon, noon. But while I was growing up, we won this game every year. And there was so much of the day left to celebrate.

I don't know if I like scraping the division format to choose the teams for the confernce title game. If you go with the top two teams in the standings, you could still get a team that scraped their way to the top by avoiding top tier teams, which would happen more frequently now that there are 14 teams in the conference.
Example: Barry Alvarez's Wisconsin Rose Bowl teams had a tradition: Lose to Michigan and miss out on playing the other top tier B1G team (Ohio State once, Penn State the other two times). I wouldn't want to see a return to that, where a team gets rewarded for their scheduling breaks.
Also, Sparty missed out on playing OSU 15 times in the last 30 years. For some reason, they always seemed to rotate off the schedule more often than others. Now that they're in the same division, they don't have that luxury anymore and they have to play every year....which is how it should be.

Elvis Grbac being knocked out of the game in the first quarter was the bigger blow than Elezovic's missed PAT. But it was a big reason for Herbstreit's accomplishment of tying us.
We would have played Purdue in 1978. Sparty was on probation and wasn't allowed to go to any bowl (or have any games televised) and they would have been automatically disqualified ala OSU 3 years ago.

Yeah. It was LSU in 2011.
A few players, which included starting QB Jordan Jefferson, got in a huge bar brawl the week before the start of the college football season, got arrested, charged and were released on $5,000 bond.
Les Miles called their behavior "unacceptable" but still started them in the opener against Oregon, (who was ranked in the top 5 I believe.) He suspended them for the following week's game against Northwestern State.

1993 through 1996. Remember when those were considered the "hell years?". 8-4, 8-4, 9-4 and 8-4.
Coming off 5 straight Big Ten titles, the fans immediately wanted to skin Gary Moeller alive, especially when the injuries in practice started to mount up (Tyrone Wheatley, Walter Smith, Joe Marinaro) and then Lloyd felt the stress, despite starting out 2-0 against the Bucks, with stress eating and he started running the steps at the big house to get the weight off.
Those teams always seemed to lose in hair pulling style. The hail mary against Colorado, the Ricky Powers fumble handing the game to Illinois. They were never blown out. But they underachieved and things always seemed to go wrong at the worst time. Thankfully, those didn't seem to be an issue in the OSU game. And it didn't hurt that toolbags like Terry Glenn would release dumbass statements to fire the team up.

And much better than the last time a UM QB threw the first pitch.

The incident changed the rule to keeping time on the field.
What made that finish even worse, as we later found out, was the massive holding on that game winning play that the refs decided to ignore. Larry Stevens would have sacked Smoker immediately but MSU's Steve Stewart was allowed to hold his arm and basically rip his jersey off in order to protect his QB.

The old crowd noise rule in college football.
That popped up often when Michigan played on the road. Iowa in 1988, Wisconsin in 1986 and as recently as Penn State in 1993, were all issued warnings.
When we played in Columbus in 1990, the crowd was given the penalty and OSU lost a timeout as a result.
The big house crowd came close to getting the penalty during the 89 OSU game. The ABC cameras actually show the entire Michigan sideline desperately pleading with the fans to quite down so we won't get the penalty. It's probably one of the strangest things you'll ever see.

2001, when they muffed the punt and Hayden Epstein kicked the game winner with 10 seconds left. We've only played there 3 times since.
We were 22-3-1 all time at Camp Randall until the 2005 game when they beat us in the final minute 23-20 when we were without Mike Hart. Two years later, both Hart and Henne were out with injuries for the game (when the conference title was on the line) and we lost again. And finally in 2009, we had RichRod and couldn't beat anybody. That was the last year we were in Madison.

In all fairness, you could say that exact same statement in regards to Wisconsin for roughly 16 of the last 20 years.

Whomever made the shirt screwed up. It's 3 ties, not 13.
And I do remember the days of Camp Randall Stadium being our second home. We were 22-3-1 there all time until the end of the Carr years. Now we've lose 3 straight.

I went to that game with my dad. It was the kind of blowout you would expect us to have against a MAC opponent but the energy level in the stadium was really blah with that awful 0-2 start.
The halftime show was REALLY cool. The MMB played the theme from Titanic, formed the ship crashing into the iceberg, breaking in half and then sinking. The crowd really ate that up.

That would be nice but highly doubtful.
Western has risen to the occasion and pulled off some upset wins this past decade (Virginia, Illinois, UConn, and two wins over Iowa) but unfortunately, MSU is actually a solid program now....and I hate that I just typed that.
Several years ago, when Virginia Tech went to Kalamazoo, I thought Western had a chance to stay with them. Tech had put in consecutive mediocre seasons and had a loss at home to James Madison in recent memory. But after one promising drive, the Hokies ended up destroying them. I suspect this will be the same situation.

In Wayne County we had heavy rain from 1:30 to 3:00 a.m. Endless lightning like someone was flicking a light switch for an hour and a half but very little thunder. Actually not as bad as I thought it would be.

He was never fired. The shower incident that JoePa found out about from McQueary happened two years later but Sandusky was already facing accusations from a different mother about her son taking showers with him at that time...which some find a convenient timing for him to "retire" that year. (Go back and watch the entire 99 Mich/PSU game from that year. It's a 3 hour lovefest to send off Sandusky in his last home game...that was joyously squashed by Tom Brady.)

In his first two games, Rudock led three touchdown drives against Northern Illinois (who started the season 12-0) and 4 touchdown drives against Missouri State.
He threw for 256 yards, 1 TD and 2 interceptions against NIU.
He threw for 193 yards, no touchdowns and 1 interception against Missouri State.
Iowa finished that season 8-5. Just one game better than our 7-6 season.

George Perles at MSU was a buddy of Bo.
In the 80's, he echoed Bo's statements that Mike White was a dirty cheater at Illinois (which he was) and even publicly said that the real coaches who should be admired were the ones who ran clean programs with integrity...men like Bo Schembechler. His exact words.

The wide open pass to Gallon still leaves me in shock. It was the strangest feeling in the world to go from complete despair to actual hope and excitement in just one play.
That feeling happened again the following season when Gardner threw that hail Mary to Roundtree against Northwestern, which happened right in my end zone. I can see myself in the slow-mo replay.
That was a great experience but I would have preferred to have been at UTL.
