That pissed me off too. And I think the reason is the same as why we traveled to East Lansing in football two straight years....because Maryland and Rutgers joined the conference and threw the whole schedule off balance.
Last year should have been a one game return with OSU playing at Crisler and no trips to Columbus to even things out and that didn't happen. Now OSU again gets us at their place and no return trip to Crisler.

With major help from the officials against Stanford and Pitt.
Stanford got robbed of a TD that broke the plane in OT.
Pitt got called for a phantom pass interference that set up the game tying TD to send it to OT. Then in the 2nd OT, Pitt's shot at the game winning field goal was wide right but ND was offside and there was conveniently no flag or re-kick. Plus I recall a ND player taking a punch at a Pitt player and the ref doing nothing about it.
So yeah. There was some major luck on their part.

I did a double take when I read that Purdue is playing at Marshall. But then, they played (and lost) at Rice a couple years ago so I guess it's not that odd.

The endless interceptions we have had to endure have been rough. And it sounds like Rudock isn't a turnover machine (fiercely knocking on wood). So that's great comfort.
I wish we knew more about the sacks stat. Gardner was sacked about 1,000 times, understandably, given the O-Line he had to work with. And Denard would always take the sack rather than throw the ball out of bounds.
If there's nobody open and nowhere to run, I'd like to know that Rudock will throw it away.

It was always a fantasy of mine that Steve Breaston would return a couple of kickoffs for TD's in Notre Dame Stadium so they would know what it felt like. But in the end, I was happier with the demolition job Mario Manningham did on their secondary in the 47-21 blowout right under Touchdown Jesus.
Although we had that closeup of that toolbag Irish fan giving Breaston the finger in the endzone after he missed a TD catch.

Adding a few notes to some of those losses.
There was a screw job in that 2000 UCLA game from the officials...though it's been so long I can't remember the specific moment where a Bruin picked off a pass with one foot out of bounds, allowing them to set up the winning score (I believe).
2002 Notre Dame was miserable all around but that was also the game where Carlyle Halliday left the football on the two yard line which then rolled under a Michigan defender while Halliday went into the end zone holding air and got rewarded the score. Had the correct call been made, we go into halftime down 9-7 instead of 16-7.
2003 Oregon hurt...bad. Every single thing that could go wrong on special teams did and the Ducks got rewarded almost all their points because of them.
Poor Navarre. I always liked him. He took so much criticism and still did his best to improve every week. There was never an interview with him I saw where he didn't come across as a really nice guy.

I think a much better topic would be 5 of the worst fight songs....because there's soooooooo many to choose from.
Seriously. Watching so many different schools over the season, I hear their fight songs and they sound like a theme song to a children's TV show, somewhere along the lines of Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants. Then I try to picture the football players singing the song in the locker room afterwards and they must get rewarded a cookie and an apple juice.

I didn't know Popular Mechanics did college football previews.
Utah is really going the Mark Dantonio route in order to invent motivation here. Who the hell cares if some writer from Popular Mechanics referred to you as a cupcake? If he referred to them as a cupcake and an underdog, he obviously hasn't been paying attention to college football the last few years.
What did Cosmo say about the Michigan/Utah game? Maybe Harbaugh can use that as motivation.

I'm also encouraged by the fact that Rudock put up the numbers he did at Iowa behind a horrible offensive line. It wasn't the trainwreck Michigan had but it stil wasn't very good.

Some of those games are a little out there.
It doesn't matter that it was overtime at State College last year, the Buckeyes will crush Penn State.
And I'm sorry but nobody is fired up to see Marshall at Western Kentucky.

The lack of effort kills me the most. One of the many, many, many nightmares involving last season was Desmond going on Gameday and saying that he watched Michigan's practices that week and he did NOT like what he saw. His main complaint was the lack of effort all around. It's not something you want to hear when it's not even mid-season yet.

I'm always in screw Notre Dame mode. But I agree with you. The undeserved NBC contract and the decades of turning down the Big Ten for membership was annoying but once they became part time members of the ACC (to get the perks of a conference without actually being a full member) and then the ACC being stupid enough to agree to it, I kind of reached my melting point.

Kansas, in a way. We have family friends who live in Topeka who are major KU fans. They always liked and respected Michigan (and they were thrilled when we beat the hell out of Nebraska in 2011) so I told them i would root for the Jayhawks.

It's just one screen shot. Probably doesn't mean anything.
But rarely was the staring QB the holder for FG's under Bo, Mo and Lloyd.

I was on I-94, on my way to Ann Arbor for the Mich/Penn State game (Henne to Manningham!) with my dad listening to the OSU/MSU game on the radio. Just before we reached the State Street exit was when OSU blocked that field goal and returned it for the score. We laughed at the reaction Smith probably had to that. It wasn't until later that night when we saw his meltdown on ESPN.
GOD bless John L. Smith. He and MSU were the perfect fit.
