Who Knows if Hurts and Watson finish the game uninjured

M-Dog :  That is the most cogent question.  How many has our D knocked out?

The Train The original Train, Anthony Thomas, the A Train should be proud to share his moniker.
RichRod

@Njia : that unenviable job went to Brady cHoke.

Okay close with the 70 but

Okay close with the 70 but why did you think they could score? Hell they only ended up with 2 first downs, both in the 4th quarter.  LOL!

@Jaxpo :  you under estimated

@Jaxpo :  you under estimated the score with 20 seconds left, LOL!   But it was a damn good call to say 60+

M playing a high school team

De La Salle High here in Concord CA could beat Rutgers.   Check them out, hell of a program.  And, Tom Brady's brother is a vice principal there too.

Schadenfreude : Rutgers

@Decatur Jack : Like the commercial says, reading these tweets from those smart asses thinking you could ever repeat what happened to us with Conan the Harbarian as our coach?  "Priceless."   I haven't laughed so hard since we shut out the sucknuts in 1977 22-0.

Pissed they got + yards

If we hadn't fiddle farted around on the first two possessions, we coulda dropped a C Spot on them.  100, sounds nice.

Lopsided wins

Hey I was at the 1975 69-0 win over Northwestern.  In those days the drinking age was actually 18.  I know I was there but after the first quarter I don't remember the game much...

Fun game but not a great game?

Respectfully disagree.  This will teach those smart ass Rutgers students claiming they would win this game and talking all sorts of trash.  Jim channeled his inner Conan to teach all those Jersey recruits who's the boss.  Those kids Ash brought will want to be recruited and coached by a professional.

Coach, what is best in life?

Coach : "Go to another man's stadium, beat them, beat their fans, beat the elements. That's what's best in life."  July 26, 2016.

JH channeling his inner Conan

"Conan, what is best in life?" Conan : "Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of their women. Conan The Barbarian 1982

"Coach, what is best in life?"  Harbaugh : "Nothing will make you feel like a man more than going into another man's stadium, beating them, beating their fans, and beating the elements. That's the best thing in life."   Jim Harbaugh : July 26, 2016

Who Knew?

Doooooooooooom!

Go Blue Eyes : you got that right! Did I get enough o's in there?

"some insane idiot..."

@Toasted Yosties : that insane idiot, actually should be in plural, is SF 49er owner Jed York and his troll Trent Baalke the GM.  These two thin skinned know nothings ran the best coach they've had since Bill Walsh and George Seifert right out of SF back home.   Thank God!  We should all chip in and commission a statue with a plaque bearing the names of these two underneath which should read :

"World's Greatest Michigan Fans."

Harbaugh over/under

I guessed 7-5 with a win over either MSU or ohio.  Given the pathetic way we ended 2014 I had little hope for a Harbaugh staple, power running which is the necessary foundation for all that follows.  Once he had to go with Rudock over Morris et al, I felt 7-5 was a good call.  But after shutting out BYU and Maryland on the road I figured 8-4.  Losing to Sparty ugh, but finding a way to win in Minnesota had me still at least 8-4 but it showed grit and character cHoke teams never had. When injuries to Glasgow and Ojemudia decimated the front 7 I still felt 8-4 but much tougher to get there  and the Indiana game bore that out. To me that was really Rudock's Rubicon Moment, when he justified Harbaugh's faith.  We probably shouldn't have won that game but Rudock put the team on his back and carried us over.   Bottom line, we played through adversity in a way that no cHoke team could, so "obliterating" (ESPN's dsecription) Florida on national TV was the perfect ending to a tough but ultimately extremely satisfying season.

2011 vs. 2015 Season Comparison

Great finish to an overachieving team! But just for the sake of stimulating a discussion which first year coach had the better 1st season? Hoke or Harbaugh?

2011 Hoke : 11-2, 2015 : Harbaugh 10-3

Bowl : Hoke : Sugar Bowl 23-21 over Virginia Tech Harbaugh Citrus Bowl 41-7 over Florida

Rivalry games : Hoke : wins over ND and ohio ;  Harbaugh : ND n/a loss to ohio

Superficially Hoke had the better 1st year but to me,  I think the 2015 team was a better team.

The eyeball test tells me the 2015 team was better because they played more cohesively as a team.  The 2011 team had more individual talent.  The 2015 team had to rebound from a 5-7 season. The 2011 team inherited a 7-6 season.

The 2015 team did not have a Denard Robinson who could singlehandedly win a game. The 2015 team did not have Junior Hemingway, now in the NFL who could and did bail out Denard when he out jumped the Va Tech defender to make a crucial catch when Denard threw a wounded duck in a drive that scored a TD.

Hoke inherited a singular talent in Denard.  Harbaugh had to recruit and mold a decent QB castoff from Iowa into a very very good QB in Rudock.

Harbaugh et al. expanded the offensive repetoire instead of relying on Denard, making it more difficult to defend us.

I think the 2015 team had to do more in order to finish how they did and but for the most flukish play in the history of college football would also have finished 11-2.  Just my two cents.

From Star Trek The Next

From Star Trek The Next Generation.  Capt. Picard is on a planet with a turtle like counterpart from an alien race that speaks a language that are references to their history.  Tanagra is the place where Darmok and Gilad, two of that race's heroes began as opponents but banded together to face a common foe.  Picard and his alen counterpart struggle to understand each other while facing a common foe bent on killing them both.  At the end, the alien Captain is killed but Picard learns the meaning of their symbolic language and tells them using their own historical allegory that he and his alen counterpart fought the same battle as Darmok and Gilad did at Tanagra, thus telling this alien race that he and their captain bound themselves together in friendship by their mutual struggle against a common foe.

Bowl Opponent

Some are picking Ole MIss for the Sugar.

9 Wins

A note of caution, despite all of us seeing the rise of the phoenix out of the ashes of the bitchRod and cHoke era : in cHoke's 1st year he went 11-2 with a win over ohio and Va Tech in the Sugar Bowl.  After that?  well we know.  The big difference I see is a team playing with tenacity, beating teams we should beat even if we aren't playing well, not letting poor officiating impede the mission and most of all playing hard. You could never say that about the previous two regimes.   They won, if at all, with individual talent, not team play and once opponents zeroed in on that, we were doomed.  Ironically enough, ref incompetence might have actually helped us by not calling Zettel for targeting.  If Molester U has any chance of beating Sparty, they will need all the defense they can muster.  But jeez we need to learn how to run the ball again! Why wasn't De' Veon in there for more carries? Anyone have some insight into that?

Bo Lives On! Yevgeni: this takes me back 40 years seeing Bo over his protege's shoulder. Beautifully done. Thank you.
That is a fair point.  But

That is a fair point.  But since MSU is still a Michigan school, and I had lots of MSU friends, I can't help but root for another Michigan school except for the obvious 1 game.  But I don't see MSU's prominence lasting.  We have just been lousy for the last 8 years, 2011 notwithstanding.  I hope the Harbaugh hire plays out as well as everyone hopes.

Been watching the Ducks since

Been watching the Ducks since my daughter started attending UO in 2012.  Despite how they dominated the Criminoles, the media will continue to view them as a gimmick team no matter how much Herbie now says, "can we put to rest the idea that Oregon is a finesse team?"  Yeah ohio beat them in the Rose Bowl a few years back, but that team was a more primitive version of the Duck team that has evolved over the last 3 seasons.  I suspect ohio will think they will roll over the Ducks.  I think not. The Ducks will be my Michigan proxy,   Go Ducks!

Conference Loyalty vs. rooting for.... them

While I don't share your distaste for MSU,  I do for those other guys.  I watched the Sugar Bowl figuring that if the other guys lost a close game it would still gain the conference stature.  Now in a strange way,  since my daughter is a Duck,  they will be my Michigan proxy and hope they will crush those other guys.  There is only one possible scenario in which I could possibly consider rooting for those guys,  if they were to play Arizona.... and that is still a big maybe.

Too bad we can't wait 2 years

Too bad we can't wait 2 years to see if Doeren succeeds in his, as you describe, "tell years."  As an old alum I am just tired of the same old same old.  I am at the point where I would like to see  someone unconventional.  Yes, RRod was "unconventional" but he wasn't the right "unconventional."   I don't know why everyone is so hot on Harbaugh.  Living in the Bay Area, I see all the controversy surrounding him with the 49ers.  All of his strengths are well documented but he burns so hot he burns out everyone else around him.   Long term stability is not his strong suit.  Unless the stodgy Administration is willing to cede entire control of the football program to him and accede to every demand he makes,  he won't be around past year 4 either, simply not for the same reasons as RRod or Hoke. Besides he covets the Lombardi Trophy, not the Sears Crystal Football.  Having gotten so close to it, he is hardly (given his driven personality) going to give up that pursuit voluntarily.

Anyone want to weigh in on NIU's Rod Carey?
