So the head coach wants the students to be respectful, look presentable in public, maintain a living area that is both presentable and safe, as well as wanting his athletes to be respectful to women. At least that's my takeaway from the list. And as much as we might think it seems odd to write it down, its a whole lot easier to enforce if you write it down and hand it to the kid. Plus, when they're being recruited, they know about these rules and they have the choice to attend the school or not.

This is the difference between teh Big Ten and the SEC.
It was the strangest thing to get used to while going to school in the SEC watching them root for their rivals. I couldn't do it.

but you can ban it.
I've been here a long time, but don't speak often since, like this post, I don't have much to say that adds value, but I'll say this: I'm with you completely Brian.

This thread just makes my heart hurt. Will Muschamp needs to go.

Having graduated from Florida during the Tebow and oah championship runs, i can tell you that Gainesville is a heck of a place to party when the Gators win. Other than making decent size trees march down the road, there is no burning of anything. I can only imagine last night they were drinking their sorrows away. At least last nights game meant one of my teams made the final four!

After having grown up in Grand Haven and then moving to Florida (explain my name at all?) I have to say, while Florida beaches are great and a ton of fun, I'd gladly take Grand Haven's beach... fresh water and great small towns that when I was there weren't overrun with tourists (unless it was Coast Guard Festival, but then you just went to the beach in Ferrysburg).

As a Gator alum with a BSBA in CIS and an MS in CS, losing the department would be crazy. In my time there the courses leaned VERY heavily toward foreign students. And foreign students brought in a lot of money. I hope they reverse course because CS is a field not going away anytime soon. Why don't they kill off classes like "Age of Dinosaurs" or the stereotypical rocks for jocks first?

|3 years 2 weeks ago||Historical Basis||
As a Christian myself, I get tired of many of these "prohibitions are bullshit" arguments.
Many of the religious prohibitions are historical artifacts created to keep the ancient people safe. If all religious prohibitions are "bullshit" then what are the Ten Commandments? If you ask me, its simple: don't steal... many cultures stealing meant getting your hand cut off; don't commit murder... Hammurabi's Code said an Avenger would be sent to kill you; don't commit adultery... ancient form of protection against STD's (one virgin + one virgin = greatly decreased risk of STD spread).
Other uses of religious prohibitions such as Catholics can't eat meat on Fridays or Mormons can't drink caffeine are the same as the Christian Lent 40 days of fasting. Its meant as a sacrifice so that every time you are tempted to eat a nice greasy burger on Friday or grab that morning cup of coffee you think about it, say a prayer to your preferred deity and therefore use it to live your life to better glorify your God.
If you disagree with me, that's fine, we're all entitled to our opinions on religion and I'm not here to convert you. I'm just asking everyone keep an open mind to other people's view, stop the name calling (and, in the bigger picture, the religious motivated violence) and get back to the point of this blog: football.

To tag on with what Tom was saying about languages and from a guy who did web programming, make sure to learn more than one language. C++ and Java are the current standards and if you know the basics of them you'll be able to cross back and forth easily enough. (I'd personally recommend C++ as its the harder one to pick up with pointers) Combined with your business degree, COBOL would be a fair second language to learn the basics of because of its use before C++ and Java became popular.

There are places in the world where they have had to install chain link fencing around the field and in the seating areas to keep fans separated and away from the players. Yes, some soccer fans do get that crazy in other places in the world.
|4 years 4 days ago||Batty Proposal||
We'll see how batty this is, but here goes...
With 16 teams, we know that a team will only realistically be able to play half the conference any year if they want to schedule any non-conference games. We also have to try and take into account traditional rivalries.
Everyone hates the NFL, but what if they maybe have something slightly right? Below are four four team divisions.
Again, this is hopefully preserving traditional rivalries, making sure you don't go too long without playing any one team and it also makes it so your schedule would be set before the start of the season so there'd be no logistical issues to work out midseason with scrambling up who plays who and where.
The conference winner would be the division winner with the best conference record with tiebreakers being head to head, record vs common opponents, division record and then point differential.
|4 years 9 weeks ago||Joke||
I find your joke amusing about Orlando. I did the opposite of Miller... I started high school in Michigan and graduated from Dr. Phillips HS. Diversity is not an issue at DP... I swear that school hears more of every other language than it does English. (They claim to have 50+ languages spoken by its student body)

We know you're just trolling for attention, but I've been to GVSU multiple times and have found it to actually be a very nice campus and last I'd been there, it was getting even better. Allendale has NOTHING, but GVSU itself is a nice campus.
|4 years 28 weeks ago||Yes||
UF "sells" them to season ticket holders for the season. I think I heard up to $500 (although I could be completely wrong) to have one of these attached to your bench seat. They're a pain in the neck though when you're trying to run the stadium to stay (get) in shape!

What do Florida and Florida State students have in common?

I thought that article was pretty amusing. Good mix of jabs at both sides.
|4 years 30 weeks ago||Florida||
I sure hope you can be a fan and not be an alum. I got moved to Florida my junior year of high school so out of state at Michigan was far too rich for my blood. (I worked two jobs as it was to pay for college!) I still bleed maize and blue, but after two years of abuse from my friends at Florida, two basketball championships and the first football championship of the decade, a little bit of orange found its way into my veins. I did root for Michigan in the Citrus Bowl against the Gators two years ago.

Is it bad that I really wish that number one were true and that the whole article was a huge joke by the AD as a commentary on how (over)reactive ESPN and everyone as fans are?

down here on the Macon radio stations. All the teasers keep asking if Michigan is screwed.
|4 years 34 weeks ago||Leak/Tebow||
Urban Meyer has said he plans on using John Brantley this year kind of the way he used to use Tebow. It worked out quite well for them before and gave Tebow a lot more experience for when he took over as the starter.

|4 years 37 weeks ago||So far...||
I've actually been personally pretty pleased with the system. For the most part, I haven't seen many posts where people were getting killed (and by that I mean more than a -2 or -3) without good cause. One comment I made, I screwed up and posted bad facts and I took the hit for it. The system seems to be keeping most people honest. Then again that's just my epinion.
(EDIT: Just before I posted this bouje was at 105... in the time it took me to write it, he's now at 76. Ouch)

|4 years 38 weeks ago||Adidas cleats||
I've owned Adidas, Umbro and Nike cleats. I destroyed the umbros in less than a year, but I've had a pair of adidas for three years. I only bought new cleats cause finally the stitching started to come out a bit. I personally can't stand my nike cleats that I'm wearing now. All a matter of personal preference, I guess.
