Ga St, Ut St, Old Dominion, NM, Troy, UAB, UTSA... it's replacing Hawaii so I'm not worried about strength of schedule. We got enough meat with UCF (who will still be good Big 5 be damned) and Colorado. 2016 should be Year 2 of the Shane Morris Project so I'd like a tasty cupcake to get things rolling please.

It's the game write-ups that tended to start falling into self parody of "why does this team suck at the things I think they should do, also my hot dog was less than stellar sitting next to a pottery consultant from Cheboygan who shouldn't be at the games". Overall I'm happy, just would like, let's say, 17% less self-loathing.

I'm hoping Brian returns to more of the substantive content on Michigan football and hockey in his personal recaps instead of the extended Smiths album prologues we've seen in recent years. I miss having the analysis not bogged down in personal tales of woe. I've got Grantland for that :(

You may have never heard of the J Geils Band and their masterpiece of the Live Full House at Cobo Hall record. Soooo much energy and positivity. And the harmonica guy's name is Magic Dick.
True story, the lead singer is neither J nor Geils. Discuss.

I lean toward agreement with you. Formalized Judeo Christian religious beliefs with the structure of the generalized Protestant organized churches tended to provide that initial communal morality the Constitutional framers intended, but the secularization of contemporary society following the normalization of post-1960's radicalism have contributed to a balkanized population without a unifying morality that governed the balance between unbridled captialism and social christian democrat- desires for a quasi-utopian state.

Look at Industrial and Operations Engineering. They're more implementers of processes than some other engineering disciplines. Also, if you like making stuff, consider a degree in Engineering technology-- you can specialize in things like metal working / metal shop, electronics design and fabrication. More practical, less theoretical, less math. If you're going after a traditional engineering degree, eventually you'll need high level math- yes even in your day job. Don't let that discourage you though, I'm a PhD engineer and I suck at high level math-- I understand the concepts enough and can perform the calculations, just don't ask me to derive stuff or do a lot of eigenvalue / transformation math... uggh. My PhD advisor told me "you're a horrible mathematician, but a hell of an engineer... take statistics for your math concentration"

The local McDonald's went through a massive renovation and in the ensuing "re-grand opening" they gave the first 50 people in line a gift card for one free Big Mac per week for an entire year. Yep, I got one and every Wednesday at work is "Big Mac Day". It's gonna be a good day scooter.

"Running back Denard Robinson made a statement to be involved in the offense, rushing for a team-high 34 yards on six carries. … Running back Jordan Todman had a blitz pickup on Bostic, giving Henne an extra second to complete a pass to tight end Marcedes Lewis for a 20-yard gain. … Defensive end Tyson Alualu has recorded sacks in each preseason game."
Watched a little bit, seems like he'll be a 3rd down passing down back, and change of pace to Gearhard from traditional formations. Todman may be the mid-yardage 2nd / 3rd down back due to his apparent ability to pass protect better. Guess is Toby, Todman, and Denard make the team with Denard getting ST reps as well as probably 4-5 touches per game on offense.

I mean how can you support David Brandon's attempt to have laser light shows, fireworks, and atmospheric modification experiments that change the color of the sky at games through your artwork propaganda! The sky has been blue since Yost started coaching Michigan men and I'll be damned if some Adidas marketing douchebag tries to alter that tradition!

While we here on the website obsess over facility upgrades for water polo coverage, schlissel's got a lot coming at him as soon as he steps in the job 15 July. There's issues with aca compliance in the M health system, a potentially huge re-org in the College of Engineering, potentially two college deans needing to be replaced in succession within a year, and I've heard that he really wants to get on a national stage in establishing better nat'l security credentials for the university in concert with Simon at MSU. Those are issues far outweighing the potential replacement of an AD who has the department in the black, has grown nonrevenue sports, and has not presided over major scandal. Caveats apply (one being if 100k streak stops and/or Brandon pisses off one huge donor), but by in large i think Brandon is safe on the argument that the new pres has bigger fish to fry right away.

|8 weeks 2 days ago||This is my wonder||
At this point, Lebron has his two rings and four "The Finals" (TM) appearances in a row. Wade is breaking down, looking like Melo to Chicago. Does Bron's guilt/hubris/irrational desire to be loved by "everyone" think that to cement his "legacy" as the all-time great he can go to Cleveland and try to break a long standing curse by winning a championship with the Cavs? Or 2? Or 3? or 4? (oh stop me now...). I've always been hesitant to the idea LeBron's going anywhere but the easiest path to the finals, but let's be honest, if Derrick Rose isn't Derrick Rose anymore and Indiana can't get mentally tougher / better, is there another team in the Eastern Conference that could challenge ANY team with LeBron right now? Add in Cleveland can pick whoever it needs to compliment LeBron (or trade assets and the pick for other assets... last year's #1 to the Pistons for Greg Monroe? This year's #1 and last year's #1 to Minnesota for Kevin Love?), and if LeBron can be happy with the coach (which by the media reports out of Miami by the end of the year last year, LeBron thought he WAS the coach), why not to Cleveland where he can sandblast out the biggest blotch on his legacy?

But I honestly thought Bradley was probably 1 or 2 on the squad coming out of our qualifying campaign with Altidore; Dempsey, Howard, and Cameron as next best tier. The fact that we're in position to advance (and should have!) with next to no Altidore, Bradley playing poorly, and Cameron playing like a roller coaster actually has me feeling kind of good. Besler, Beckermann and Jones playing as revelations with Dempsey reverting to his killer form has been a hugely surprising balance to the poor play from others. And Howard I would say has been good not great-- what I expect out of Howard.

He isn't on the team because of his dad, he's on teh team because of the long haul he's one of the top 1-3 players in our nation. My point was his play has been so uncharacteristically bad, it's like someone kidnapped Bob on his way back from Egypt and was holding him ransom for Michael to play bad. The comment was a tongue in cheek criticism like BRadley's been tanking on purpose. I'll include appropriate hashtagz and sarcasm markers for you next time.
|8 weeks 3 days ago||worried about Bradley||
Two late game gaffes from our supposed most heady player. Anyone see if his dad is being held hostage by some nefarious peeps after coaching Egypt? Our hopes in advancing lie in Bradley being able to outplay top Euro and South American midfielders. If he can't, then we're in worlds of hurt.
|9 weeks 2 days ago||Question(s) on rooting interests||
So the first game is easy... Waffles over North African deserts all day.
Second game: Do I reflexively cheer against Mexico, or do I cheer for chaos inducing upset if Brazil loses? If Brazil loses, do the people sacrafice the coach to a river teeming with man eating piranhas? Cause that'd spice things up a bit.
Third game: We are SO anti-Russia still, yes? I mean for what they did to Apollo Creed? And how can you cheer against Korean girl pop groups? Can CRex comment on whether his wife is going Korea-zy? (get it? Crazy? Korea-zy? huh? huh?)

|10 weeks 3 days ago||I'm thinking 3-4 seasons||
As mentioned below the culper story basically starts at Washington's defeat in new York and ends after Arnold's defection (sorry, spoiler alert for those of you fell asleep in American history). I think that and the way they set up Tallmadge v Andre for Season 2 lends itself to 4 seasons max. Any more and they'll have to start psuedo history revisionism
|10 weeks 3 days ago||yep||
Turn uses that book as source material for the show. I like it- its not over cgi'd the drama is relatively historically accurate, and I like the character interplay. Its a lot of point counterpoint which was the nature of warfare at that time. In addition, we are probably spoiled in terms of what to expect from intelligence operations what was considered earth breaking Intel then is assumed to be known now in the age of NSA wiretaps and spy satellites. I think the series picks up pace nicely after the introduction of major Andre. I'm hoping for at least a three season run because I want to see how they treat the entire Benedict Arnold story- that and Trenton were the Cupper ring's two biggest contributions to the war.
Amazingly the info we have on the Culper ring wasn't really known until the mid-20th century. And we still don't know for sure who Agent 355 was. (Read a history book). The culper story really illustrates how Washington was ahead of his contemporaries and that he really was a key figure in defeating the British.

So if I'm Landon Donovan's biggest stalker fan, who am I aiming a sniper rifle at...errrr, hoping gets hurt... errr, hoping plays well in the upcoming friendlies? Davis? Green? Wondo?
|12 weeks 6 days ago||Question for the Soccer-illuminati on the board||
Is there a taxi squad or injury replacement allowance for rosters leading up to the WC or is this 23 it come hell or high water? US still has a couple friendlies before Brazil and should someone on the lower half of the 23 get hurt, is Donovan a possible late addition? He's taking this well in the media so I'm wondering if he thinks there's still a shot to make on the final plane as long as he plays good soldier..
|12 weeks 6 days ago||I've read a lot of pieces on Donovan the past day||
And I'm having a hard figuring out why he was left off the roster as he:
1) Does still have value in VERY limited minutes when you're looking to go all out offense
2) Was still seen by active players as respected
and (3) made no bones about the willingness to come off thebench and not be a head case.
You would think that for team unity, JK would have found a ceremonial sit-on-the-bench 23rd spot for him like England tried to do for Beckham. That said, the piece on SI by Grant Wuhl that talked about Klinnsman's penchant for guys that go all out (see the quotes from Jurgen about Wondo) may just speak that JK's going for a culture change of guys who would run through a brick wall for the national team. Donovan's sabbatical and his somewhat reluctant desire to get back to national team competition didn't speak for the intensity that JK has been looking for. I gotta think that either in body language or how he was preparing, Donovan just wasn't showing the balls to the wall despiration that JK was seeking. Remember Eddie Johnson was left off the invited 30 for the training camp too. Message should be received now by Altidore, Dempsey, et al that any slack will not be tolerated.
