|3 days 1 hour ago||I always thought it was Thatcher quoting Churchill||
but since I can't find that on the internet, I concede your argument.
|3 days 2 hours ago||Just to be clear||
I'm OK with Harbaugh being so focused on being a football coach that he doesn't know the difference between New Years and Christmas (at least based on his quote)-- we hired a football coach, not a theologian. (OTOH, man, is he really that singularly focused?) Just be prepared when he says something that might not be as "socially acceptable" as some at Michigan want all officials to be....
|3 days 2 hours ago||To paraphrase Winston Churchill||
Hail and Unite is a great thing, until you run out of other people's money.
|3 days 2 hours ago||I trust Magnus's abilities to read minds||
I heard he was tested for it at Langley back in '78.

"I’ve said this before but a lot people think January 1st is the start of the new year, and those that believe in Christianity and espouse Catholicism believe that correlates with the birth of Christ but we in football treat the first day of spring practice as the new year."
Soooo we know Harbaugh won't be running for Pope then... :)

|4 days 30 min ago||INtriguing to me||
- Ty Issac at 240 suggests to me he's ready to challenge for starting everydown back
- AJ Williams is now a TE in name only. He'll be the power TE in 2-TE sets (as if we didn't now this already)
- Chris Wormley at 300 gives me goosebumps. Like Alan Branch shaped goosebumps.
- Ben Braden at 331 is scary to me (not in a good way). Don't we need some mobility out of him? GGlasgow losing 10 lbs and becoming a pulling ball of death is scary (in a good way)
- Alex Malzone? 6'2" 218 lbs. Jim Harbaugh playing days? 6'3" 215 lbs. Just saying.

St Cloud St a number of slots ahead of us have a 2 game series against NoDak this week, then a two game series against Denver the following week. That's a possible 4 game losing streak for a team that would be really beneficial to us if they start dropping. Probably the biggest hurdle from my vantage point looking at the PWR, RPI and upcoming games is Yale. I think we can pass Harvard, UM-L, and Vermont by natural inertia via winning out the regular season, but Yale might be tricky to bypass. Which is why I'm going to have StatTracker up for that SCS v NoDak series... SCS gets swept, it's Oh Doctor a race to the end. We could have Yale move up to 14 and then us in the precarious 15 slot. To quote Princess Leia, "It ain't over yet"

Wow. You're a Debbie Downer. You do realize that in 2011 we were a Tiny Jesus miracle save from winning the whole thing, and 2012 we were in the tourney for a 20th consecutive season and as a 1-seed right? Sure the last two seasons have been bad and some warts have been exposed in the program foundation, but (A) it's not like we're going on a 10 year streak of futility, (B) an above average goaltender probably has us on the edge of the Top 10 in RPI, and (C) a 6-7 game win streak (which we've already done this year against similar competition to what we're going to be facing) gets us in? Lighten up Francis, and look back longer than if you were a sophomore in college this year. Plus, have you watched college hockey the last 10 years? The depth is across the board better in every conference- longtime doormats like the ECAC have risen up to be national powerhouses. It's not the 90s where all you ahd to be was Michigan with high powered recruiting classes and guarantee yourself a 2 seed at minimum. College hockey is harder now overall than it was 10 years ago, and Michigan's (relative) struggles the past two years have proven that out.
|4 days 2 hours ago||Psychologically yes||
but RPI wise, no. The BU game is probably the one that affects us the most, with Ferris 2nd, and UNH 3rd. You don't lose bonus points for bad losses compared to good ones, but you gain bonus points for good wins.
|4 days 6 hours ago||Don't give up on that Penn St bonus yet||
A PSU sweep this week and a strong finish by them outside of a weekend sweep and a loss in the BTT to us still could keep them in the Top 20. Teams ahead of them are going to get bombed in the next couple weeks, and we need is for them to finish in the Top 20 RPI at the end of the season. Damn it would be nice to have a 3rd place game for them to pick up one more win before the season ends.
It's funny, you flip either that Ferris St or BU game we lost earlier this year, each by one goal, and we're probably sitting on the bubble line instead of jumping multiple teams.
|4 days 7 hours ago||One minor correction||
the phrase is "plausible deniability". You need to watch more X-Files. :)
|4 days 7 hours ago||Thanks||
I'm going to imagine things are going to be really volatile through this weekend, and then we'll have a pretty clear picture of how things stand going into the Penn St weekend series.
|4 days 7 hours ago||On a depressing note||
(as if we didn't have enough of those lately).... anybody watch John Gibson goaltend for the Ducks last night? :(
|5 days 2 hours ago||I'm of the same mind||
I don't think this team can clamp down on defense and win a 1-0 / 2-1 game right now, but I wanted to add some perspective away from the "SWEEP OR DIE" and "FIRERED.COM" mentalitiy I saw on the message boards after the games this weekend. In all honesty, if Wiscy and Michigan St are competent teams in out-of-conference this year, we're probably talking about can we stil get a 2 or 3 seed instead of can we still get in the tourney. The weakness of the conference overall is a anchor like no other we've seen in contemporary Michigan hockey history.
|5 days 4 hours ago||So we're at 85 now?||
Or 86? I've lost track and if you count the Glasgows and Kerridge and whoever else.
Good luck and God speed Mr Bellomy.
|5 days 4 hours ago||I am 100% in favor||
of tickets being lowered in anyway for any students to try and encourage more students to come and be a part of the football community.
|5 days 4 hours ago||Spiketrotters you say?||
|6 days 18 hours ago||as an at large||
Probably. We'd need to win all seven remaining and probably beat Penn st or Minnesota in a b1g tourney game, and then we're still probably hoping Yale, Harvard, and /or Vermont piss their pants with losing streaks and an early conference tourney loss. Stranger things have happened but this team isn't showing the testicular fortitude to have me give them benefit of doubt. It'd probably b1g tourney or bust at this point.
|1 week 1 day ago||Additionally||
for Brackeology reasons, as long as majority chalk holds in the major conference tourneys (American Hockey can go f itself) realistically we're battling Yale, Harvard, and Vermont for the last at-large seed. Yale and Harvard have a great chance to cannibalize themselves in the last weeks of the ECAC race, and Vermont probably needs a big run in the Hockey East tourney to pick up some RPI points. We finish strong in 1st or 2nd place in the B1G and make the BTT final, we're probably in.
|1 week 1 day ago||Ground can be made up quick in PWR||
Yale, Harvard, and Providence (3 non-B1G teams ahaed of us in PWR right now) have difficult weekends. Yale's got two road games against ranked Qunnipiac and unranked Princeton, Harvard has a three set this weekend with conference roadies against ranked St Lawrence and unranked Clarkson, but then also has a Beanpot game against BC on Monday.Providence has a home-and-home against UMass. I could easily see Yale dropping both, Harvard dropping all three and Providence splitting, giving us a chance to make up some ground if we can sweep. Vermont is tied with us in PWR and they've got a fairly light weekend with a pair against Merrimack. Minnesota and Penn St are playing in a swap weekend. Gophers sweep, they probably have the inside track to the regular season title and possibly an at-large spot. A split and everybody resets (maybe Michigan and Minnesota get one spot closer in PWR due to a Minnesota drop) for next weekend's pressure cooker. A Penn St sweep at home with a sweep by us probably means a Chinese fire drill in the PWR standings with B1G teams as Michigan would probaly move ahead of Minnesota and Penn St would take Michigan's buble spot with Minnesota behind them. I'm still holding out hope that a 7-1 or 8-0 finish to the regualr season with a B1G tourney finalist showing means we get an at-large 4 seed.

If you have kids and they like shrimp, go to Olive Garden. The kids meal shrimp plate is massive and cheap.

|1 week 1 day ago||So if it's truly "uniquely LA"||
Concourses will be mishmashed all around the stadium and weave to God knows where with too little room, the hot dogs will be $10-15 depending on if you want all organic grass fed humanely killed beef, or a vegan fair trade Boca Dog from the in-house Whole Foods. Suites will have real grass seating areas watered by the leftover spillage from cokes in the bleacher seating, and you'll have to take a 30-yr mortgage out to pay for season tickets. But HEY! Steve Martin, Iggy Azalea, and some guy who playeda Stormtrooper in ALL THREE ORIGINAL TRILOGIES(!!) will be in the same stadium as you! Cue Randy Newman!
*Music* I loooovvee LA!

Gray Cup? No, Coupe Grey.
|1 week 1 day ago||Yep||
Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, QPR, Crystal Palace, and West Ham currently. I forget but I think there's one or two others that are either in the next division down or were in the Premier League within the last 10 years.
|1 week 2 days ago||I'd be down with a MLB / NHL model||
with a slight tweak (for the other sports too). All HS players are eligible and if a team drafts you, you can either sign with them immediately or wait 2-3 years. HOWEVER, the pro team that drafts you then becomes responsible for paying your cost of attendance in order to keep your draft rights. If they don't like the school you chose or you're not developing as they'd hope, then they can drop the financial assistance and the school then has to guarantee the remainder of your eligibility. Basicaly, the pro team gets your draft rights and if you're good enough right away, there's no barrier to you playing right away (Kobe, Garnett, LeBron, etc). If the pro team has a logjam at your position for 1-2 years, they can "stash you away" in college for a couple years (much like how the NHL used to use the European leagues). If you develop fast, you're eligible to play in 2 years in the pros at which point the proteam has sunk $50-100k in you (cheaper than a D-league deal), your college has benefitted from 2 years of activity, and you've had 2 years to build a "brand" for yourself. If you're a slow developing player, the proteam gets a mature player for the cost of $100-200k or is a sunk cost if they player doesn't develop at which point the player has a chance to prove his worth to someone else and the proteam is off the hook for way less than the cost of a Corleone Young contract.
|1 week 2 days ago||Exactly||
It's not like Blue vs Green or Red vs. Orange. Red v Blue are two distinct very discernable colors. Add the gray pants v maize pants and the radically different helmet designs, and you have a recipe for gloriousness :)

Love you little guy. Please come back. Save us Tiny Jesus.
|1 week 4 days ago||I wasn't talking about the crowd||
the actual team is going to goon it up as much as humanly (and even then some) possible. They're going to take from the Stan Van Gundy playbook and "Form a F*g Wall" at the blue line and dare us to try and execute a successful dump and chase or force the referees to call obstruction penalties. It's going to be messy like an Ohio State spelling bee.
|1 week 4 days ago||I still think we have a shot as an at-large||
If we can go 7-1 or 8-0 in the home stretch, and then get to the finals of the BTT, I think we can absorb a loss in the finals and sneak in as a 4 seed. Those two games against Penn St are absolutely crucial because of the road win bonus possible. You gotta know though, that Sparty's gonna Spart like they've never Sparted before that last weekend, especially the Friday night game. If Michigan's on a six game win streak going into the last weekend, that Friday night game at Munn is going to be like watching the real life verion of the Syracuse Bulldogs from Slap Shot. They may even bring back Corey Tropp to guest star as Ogie Oglethorpe.
