It's Katmandu. High energy silver bullet band, seger at his raspy greatness, and the song's just fun to sing in the car, or on a snowmobile, or speeding on a boat. Plus the trumpet hook is addicting.

1) if money really isn't an issue, then with your family head to traverse city area. Sleeping bear dunes, TC beaches and lots of nice parks / play areas for the kiddos. If you golf and like adult beverages, there's multiple quality microbrews, wineries, and good restaurants in TC.
2) if you want a little more laid back, my family's vacation spot has been up in the alpena / presque isle / Rogers city area. Alpenas the big town and has restaurants, boat charters, multiple putt putt courses and cheesy amusement parks (go karts, arcades, etc). Both inland lakes in the area, Long Lake and Grand Lake are perfectly fine to swim and watersport in summer without much fear of freezing your area off. Usually the south end of grand lake becomes a nice place to park a boat and let your kids swim on the sand bars and share a beer with a fellow boater. There's nice golf in the area (Rogers City CC is public and highly underrated, especially the back nine which is a hilly links course). This area doesn't have the modern polish of TC but has everything you need for a good northern Michigan vacation. Its also about 60-90 min away from Mackinaw Island meaning you can do a day trip or an overnight on the island without a problem. Alpena has some modern hotel chains but you can also google search for on lake rentals at grand lake and long lake that may come with a boat rental. big downside of Alpena area is you either fly into Alpena at inconvenient times through DTW, or you fly into Detroit / Flint / Bay City-Midland and drive the 3-4 hours north. You go to TC, you fly right into TC airport from a number of hubs and fly out.

and start that Bobby Knight cloning project STAT. Amazing that since Knight left, Indiana can't find a decent HC to make them an annual contender for the NCAA tournament, much less the conference or Sweet 16. Just think what Beilein would do with that program in the middle of the richest jumpshooting geographical area in the nation.. Scratch that, no, don't EVER think of Belein anyplace except in Ann Arbor.

I always liked Carl Sagan's explanation which was to take a piece of paper, ask you to imagine yourself as a worm crawling on that paper so you only have knowledge on N-1 dimensions around you. To get to the other side of the paper, you could crawl all the way across, or if you had enough energy to bend the paper and then poke a hole through to the other side (Sagan did this with a straw), the worm could crawl through the straw and reach the point on the other side in much less time than if he crawled all the way across the unfolded paper. He then went on to explain that there are multiple ways to cause that hole (You could quickly poke a straw through, you could slowly add force to a singluar point over a period of time, you could rub away the paper on a small spot with friction forces, etc) or to bend the paper. The trick for humanity, is to figure out which one makes the most sense.

It'll go to either Indianapolis or Detroit. World class indoor stadiums, proven track record of hosting a Super Bowl, and in the middle of B1G country which is football saavy. Detroit's rep for big events has gone immeasurably up since the Super Bowl, Final Four, and Frozen Four. Plus the NCAA isn't *as* image concious as the NFL in terms of celebrity pandering to SEXY locales, so as long as there's sufficient hotel rooms (there are), an infrastructure in place (there is), an energized local fan base to provide the volunteer and entertainment services (check), and a sufficient corporate base to draw sponsorship moneys from, both Detroit and Indy are strong contenders. I'd put Indy ahead of Detroit right now since some of Detroit's entertainment draw is tied to casinos (not the image the NCAA wants of the starting QB photo'd playing $100 hands of blackjack at the Greektown Casino two nights before the big game), Indy's in the NCAA HQ's backyard, and Indy would probably be seen as slightly more neutral ground than Detroit for some southern schools. Detroit's more football centric, has more people, is more associated with big time collegiate football (both Mich & MSU), has hosted a bowl game, and isn't associated with the Final Four rotation that Indy is. Plus even in the current economic climate, Detroit Auto probably still has more sponsorship dollars than Eli Lilly and whatever else is in Indy.

|3 weeks 4 days ago||football evolution||
I'm always interested in how football evolves, sometimes in circles. The 46 was created as a counter to the power run offenses of the late 70s/early 80s. Ditka basically hires ryan to run the 46 to beat the Cowboys, Giants, and Vermeil era Eagles. Now as the spread is evolving back toward power running concepts, the 46 may see a resurgence, especially since the best way to beat a 46 is with a highly accurate qb who can hit wr's on crossing/slant routes in stride (aka the west coast offense). Up to now, the spread offenses have relied a lot of non complicated passing trees that count on numerical mismatches down the field. If D's are going to start countering power running spreads with 46-esque fronts and techniques, it'll be interesting to see if the next innovation on the offensive side will be to create hybrid spread/west coast offenses or go to the other extreme to beat the 46, mouse Davis run n shoot style offenses!

In the season 1 finale of Star Wars Rebels, the crew of the Ghost successfully (albeit inadvertantly) caused the star destroyer of one Grand Moff Tarkin to crash into a planet, although it was mustafar, and there's a distinct lack of desert scapes on mustafar.

between having a TV- network dictate to you what the sport coverage should be and the sport dictating to the network how to cover the event. The Masters leadership purposefully keeps a lid on the amount of content so as to keep some of the mystique still involved. It's a marketing strategy that works for the people that own the event, and that's the only thing that matters. If the Masters leadership was into maximizing revenue, then they'd do more. As it is, they have different optimization variables, no more, no less complicated than that.

"Medical hardship" is an appeal to the NCAA where the school basically says the player is so injured / incapacitated from athletic activity that he can't play the sport anymore. The player has to agree to this. The benefits are that the student gets to stay on paid scholarship to complete his degree program, and the school gets to take that scholarship number off their active roster (i.e. "freeing up" a scholarship). However, the student basically gives up any claims to playing NCAA sports from that point forward.
Some of the scandal out of the SEC usage of this have been related to claims that the players weren't fully informed that they couldn't transfer or retain eligibility after accepting the "medical", or that their medical conditions weren't bad enough to warrant a medical hardship.

to just redshirt him next year, and have a fully healthy 5-yr Sr Spike in 2016?? Theoretically we'll have Walton and maybe Levert back, MAAR off the bench, and maybe even Jaylen Brown. Especially if Spike's going to miss all his off season conditioning, how much would he contribute in that scenario? I can't remember if we have a PG in the 2016 class yet.

I'm a gonna leave work today and just for grins in Ol' Rosco's honor, take the Old Miller Road back home instead of the interstate. Sure it's dirt, poorly marked, has trees within 2 feet of the driving surface, and the bridge hasn't been fixed in 15 years. Let's see if the Ford Focus can finally make that jump.

In his prime Troy Polamalu. Line up damn near the LOS, but fast enough to track back into deep coverage at the snap. Plenty of inexperienced QB's this year will be tricked up by counting 8 in the box only to have Peppers drop in coverage after the snap and steal a pass. That type of versatility by a safety, including what Rod Woodson brought to the Steelers when he dropped from CB to S, is what can make a defense transformative.

that a formal association of the former players hadn't existed yet, in this modern social media age. I can understand during Bo's era or even Moeller to Carr not having a formal association, but after the RR transition, the Hoke transition, and the letter campaign last year vs. Brandon, I would have thought somebody would have brought the players back together by now. Harbaugh seems at ease with "new media" and networking in the modern age, so anything to bring more cohesion to the former player base and utilizing them as a combined resource is a plus.

if there's a Jeebus in heaven, the NCAA will follow through with the hockey committee chairman's suggestion to go to 1st and 2nd round tourney games to be at the home rink of the higher seed, preferably with 2 out of 3. I'm all for craziness in national tournaments to make them fun, but there has to be some reward and balance maintained for rewarding an entire season's work over a miracle 1-weekend run (as in our beloved B1G tournament). Tilting the odds in favor of the higher seed with a home game I think is a good balance.
