On if Brady goes out like Bump Elliott or like Tommy Tuberville. I get the sense the way things are going that if he gets to coach out the season he'll do an Abe Vigoda in The Godfather and gracefully take his bullet.
|1 week 1 day ago||if this is the case||
The FOIA mafia will have a field day that will be Schlissel's worst nightmare.
|1 week 6 days ago||The one take away from this game for me||
is that Pat Fitzgerald should NOT be considered a top flight coaching candidate anymore.
|1 week 6 days ago||Maybe injury, maybe just bad mechanics||
DG just doesn't have good footwork and his throwing mechanics are all over the place (looks to me like he's still shot putting most passes like he's in high school as opposed to throwing from a consistent release point). His deep passes are just lofted balls instead of missiles.. he should have the arm strength to throw those balls, but he keep "pushing" the throw instead of "throwing" the pass.
|1 week 6 days ago||I think it *is* DG at this point||
Why it's that way is irrelevent in analyzing the game. DG is not a consistent enough QB to bank on taking even busted plays the defense gives you (see the INT where Canteen and DEVER(!) are glaringly open). If you want to say DG's a warriror, fine, but even tough guys have to be judged on their merits. DG is missing throws, missing reads, and making poor check decisions at the line. I even wonder if the whole not getting to the line for the snap in a reasonable time issue is because of DG's huddle management. DG at this point just reminds me of that QB from Miami (YTM) a couple years ago (Jacory Harris I think?) who one game can look like a Heisman candidate, and the next two make head spinning DERP-itude decisions.
Blame Hoke and staff for not finding a quality QB to have ready to put in there, or not developing DG's decision making, but what I saw this weekend was missed opportunity after missed opportunitiy where the play call was there but bad throws / bad decisions killed us. Problem is I don't think putting Morris in there is going to be any better. If I'm Alex Malzone, I'm coming in here next year thinking I have a real shot to be the starting QB.

For a gas grill just use 1 of 2 burners and let the unlit side act as your indirect heat side. Helps to have a grill thermometer to monitor temp inside the box. For smoking, you can buy a 12" x4" smoker box at most major hardware stores like Menard's, or you can make your own out of those disposable tin baking pans and some aluminum foil with holes poked on top. Just put either of these contraptions over the direct heat side of the grill.

Ace said in his twitter feed that he'd be writing it up. I'd assume a transcript and analysis by the end of the day on mgoblog front page.

There are far many other GOP'ers in Michigan with money beside Dave Brandon, and many with far more influence. In fact, if Brandon is using party politics to try and save himself, that would piss off even more GOP'ers. Rick Snyder is the face of the Michigan GOP now and in the near term, esepcially if he (likely) wins re-election, and from some political heavyweights I know still in Michigan, Snyder and Brandon are NOT happy best buddies. My take is the political angle Brandon is throwing out is a simple red herring.

For those looking for the football equivalent of Beilein, it's basically Gary Patterson.
|3 weeks 3 days ago||Huh, that's funny||
His response to an email I sent him about improving lighting around parking lots during night football games was to embed a video of a live version of the Doobie Brothers "Takin' it to the Streets" . I'm guessing I might need to invite him with me to Pine Knob to see that J Geils Band reunion concert next summer.
"Hey! The Schliss is here! And he brought his LP collection!"
|5 weeks 3 days ago||I'm starting to come to this conclusion also||
As much as we made fun of Gittleson, the results on the field of having a cadre of NFL caliber lineman who you'd without a doubt say "yep, we'll get the 3rd and 1" speak for themselves. And its not the "we don't have talent" meme... I would wager our lineman recruits in the past 4 years have been about equal in star ratings to what we were pulling in during Carr's prime. Some of it is Funk, some of it is Borges's grab bag schemes, and some of it is definately NOT being able to be outmuscled on the OL. I think if you look at the RR era folks, we were generally not outsmuscled (outside of OSU, and maybe MSU-- but I tend to chalk the MSU stuff up to not being able to pick up / coutner a jailhouse blitz in the A-gap multiple years) and if you look at the Mike MArtin / David Molk season, we were pounding people away in the running game from a spread offense because our linemen were nimble and strong enough to redirect the DL's to where we wanted them to be.. Sometimes, as much as our tendency in this modern day to be all spreadsheet and scheme centric wants to deny it, you just can't beat real beef pushing other beef around.

BC is big enough program to be a training ground for Michigan. He (so far) has made what seems to be a successful football hire, and he was responsible for keeping Enrico Blasi at Miami (NTM) during his first couple years along with the magnificent refurb of the Miami hockey arena which shows me all the hockey chops I need (that being the next most likely important hire coming up after football)

would like to talk to you about your perspective that USC is a worse "business decision". In fact they have 3-4 suitcases and a fully furnished beach house in Newport Beach for your family that would also like to change your mind...
|5 weeks 4 days ago||Conference play will be a dogfight||
This could be a year that Wiscy runs away with the conference title by 3-4 games and everybody from #2-#8 is within 2 games of each other with 5-6 conference losses. Thankfully, Bo Ryan will then gack it up in the B1G tourney or NCAA's, while Beilein, Motta and Izzo make their typical runs with teams that improved over the course of the year. Raback it that Minnesota will pull 2-3 huge upsets this year.
My prediction? PAIN....
|5 weeks 5 days ago||Right with you purplestuff||
See my post above, and that's also why an option like Josh McDaniels both excites and scares me. We could be getting Pete Carroll v2... we could be getting Lane Kiffin... we could be getting Paul Hackett.
|5 weeks 5 days ago||Agreed with jmblue||
Bill Walsh (had a couple good years at Stanford before he retired again)
I'd also add as a counter though Paul Hackett (ultimately failed but left a ready to succeed Carson Palmer in place for Pete Carroll)
I don't think coming from the NFL is as much of a deathknell as Brian writes... the successful NFL returnees are those who are masterful motivators and solid X & O guys with head coaching experience. That's why I'm more upbeat about the possibilty of a Gary Kubiak than others. Hell I even think if the right situation was there and he was 5 years younger, I'd consider Dennis Green as well. Harbaugh caveats apply.

To me is more Jim Mora Jr than Paul hackett and I would think has motivation to prove himself after Houston. I'd be mildly optimistic, with the realization he may be here less than 10 yrs. Houston was consistent as a winner under him and only got bounced because of playoff issues. If he came he and became our john cooper, I'd live with it.

Durant says "He's an All-American player"... then the ennui will set in.
|7 weeks 4 days ago||Eh why not?||
You get a Kevin Durant who makes bokoo bucks for your university in the one year he's there, you promise him to come back at any time to finish his degree, that's marketing you can bank on with not just future athletes, but with alumni who want feel good stories about how their school cares. It's minimal cost compared to what the university banked in merchandise sales and potential NCAA tourney money. Think if LSU was able to show Shaq getting his degree there instead of Shaq doing commercials for Univ of Phoenix?
|7 weeks 4 days ago||In conference arms races||
This is a pretty good first blow. Full cost of attendance, honoring it for life (no more shipping off to North Alabama Tech for you son!), and *all* athletes, not just revenue sports. Score one for decency (and for Jim Delaney World Domination)
|7 weeks 5 days ago||No dear God no||
As an alum who's embarassed about thisentire situation as anyone, please don't go to PIzza House and make an asshat out of yourself. You want to protest, show up at 6pm tonight for that candlelight vigil / fire Brandon protest, whatever. Don't be an embarassment at a pubilc establishment- that reflects poorly on you, your fellow classmates, and your alumni brothers in arms. I'm guessing Hoke's going to be enough of a mess.
|7 weeks 5 days ago||In all seriousness||
without getting into CC speculation tangent, if a mid week firing occurred, do you think a temp AD from within would be appointed or an emiterus just to guide the ship until a permanent replacement is found (i.e. bring back Bill Martin temporarily, rehire Bruce Madej)? Now with Lloyd's grandson's issues, I would think he'd be off the table as a caretaker emperor for either the AD or the football team. I kind of half heartedly joked in another thread to bring back Gary Moeller for the rest of the season to act as emeritus HC in a Barry Alvarez role, but now with the way this is shaking out, I'm not sure I want either Nuss or Mattison as interim HC... I know Moeller's 73, but he would be a guy the fan base, probably players, and the current coaching staff could rally around at least temporarily. (not to mention it'd buy us back some universal karma from the way he was shitcanned in the mid 90's)

one of my best friends was an equipment manager during the late 90's and his "Lloyd threw his headset at me" stories during games were epic.

"Hi, Gary, Mark. Yeah... the President guy. You, uh, you know,doing anything around 1pm today? I'd like to talk to you about an opportunity I have... yes, I'll bring Zingerman's. Yes with extra pickles.... No, no, Mr Brandon will DEFINATELY not be there."

at a local Fricker's with some friends who were Purdue alums but Minnesota natives. My wife and I left at halftime from the mental butt hurt and planned to just go to bed. But I wanted to subject my brain to more pain so I kept watching.. and watching... and watching until I was curled up in the sitting fetal position on my La-Z-Boy like a 6 yr old girl watching Frozen for the first time. Then Buffalo Stampede happened. It was magical. Let it go...Let it go... can't hold back Navarre anymoooo-ooo-re
