If it’s his maritime stuff…

If it’s his maritime stuff you’re after, I’d suggest In the Heart of the Sea followed by Sea of Glory.  The Last Stand was a detailed narrative of Custer and Bunker Hill was excellent as well.

Love this thread as I’m always looking to fill the void as I’m waiting for a couple of new ones from my favorite authors, Hampton Sides, Eric Larson, Nathaniel Philbrick, and a few more.  Can’t recommend Hampton Sides enough, his writing is very fluid.  From Ghost Soldiers and On Desperate Ground to Kingdom of Ice and Blood and Thunder he hits on some intriguing events from the past couple of centuries.

Road cycling is even more…

Road cycling is even more exciting these days with more than a few established and up-and-coming Americans.  Looking forward to see if Sepp Kuss will be given free reign at a stage or two in the TDF.  I draw a lot of inspiration from the great coverage provided for the TDF even though I log most of my miles on trails.  I think that even non cyclists would enjoy the way Peacock covers “Le Tour.”  Good mix of personalities, history lessons, awesome scenery, well explained but not dumbed down, etc.  Heck, kind of pumped thinking about the racing this year that I might end up doing something dumb like seeking out a Marji Gesick 100 transfer entry.

Just a tad humiliating surrounded in Crisler by PU fans including my Boilermaker daughter.  Sounds like I’m in Mackey.

At this point in the season might as well just invoke the Paul Westhead Loyola Marymount 3 seconds and get a shot up offense.

My thoughts have often been…

My thoughts have often been critical of TWill over his time at Michigan, but the op is spot on.  This guy has shown up with a blue collar attitude and seems to understand the concept of team.  Appreciate his effort and not caving in during the course of a difficult season.

Hypothetically speaking, if Michigan were to win the next dozen national championships this would still be the high water mark.  Just special.

Thinking Mullings should get more carries than Edwards going forward.  Just too soft on contact and takes too long to hit top end speed.

Offensive issues can mostly be attributed to predictable play calling which puts everyone (o line) in a tough position.

Sorry, but the play calling has me longing for the later Carr era sans the Florida game.

Thank you! Was bugging me that I couldn’t figure where I’ve heard that tune.

The NCAA will make Ricky Foggie eligible and he will comeback and whip Michigan’s fart, start, and stumble defense’s ass.

Can’t lie, was pulling for the American Jorgenson to win the stage.  If he had to get beat though, glad it was a Michigan man.  It was a well calculated and heroic effort.

Command and Control is about…

Command and Control is about the time Arkansas (and then some) was nearly leveled by a Titan II missile mishap.  It’s a PBS American Experience doc which I think you can access on Prime Video with a PBS documentaries subscription for a few bucks a month.  One of those “I didn’t know that happened” incidents for a lot of Americans.

Haven’t made wings in a while, so probably go this route.  Super easy method without a fryer.  Two bags of Meijer frozen wings on a really large cookie sheet at 440 for 40 minutes, drain some of the excess “water”, flip over and bake for another 30 - 40 minutes while checking the color/crispness along the way.  Shake in a container with whatever buffalo sauce ya got and good to go.

I agree with this.  Lots of short, scenic hikes / drives in Sleeping Bear Dunes (pyramid point, Pierce Stocking, dune climb).  Kayaking down the Platte River to Lake Michigan is easy enough for a family.  They usually hold the Port Oneida days the first or second weekend in August (this is a hands on re-creation of farm life in the area during the 19th c., great for kids).  We have a place in Frankfort, great little beach town with lots of rentals if you’re looking for a place to kick back for a few days that is close to everything.

Gave up on football at DIII…

Gave up on football at DIII level after knee surgery.  Picked up golf, but didn’t do it for me.  Felt like I went through a period where I was wandering through the woods.  Eventually got a real cross country bike and haven’t looked back.  Needed something to push myself physically and allow myself to eat whatever crap I want and only be semi fat.  Now on bike #4 and back racing again in my 50s.  Find your “it” thing and keep moving forward.

Dan Pelekoudas.   Some of my earliest memories of college bball are DePaul on WGN seemingly every night and this blond pg for UM (on ch. 50?) who would dribble, dribble, dribble, and … turnover.  Then the general arrived!

This feels like the year UM was schooled in the ? Bowl by Washington only to come back next year stronger.

The one thing many have…

The one thing many have forgotten about amidst all the Coviding is the push schools have been making towards increased security.  My school, for example, is in a perpetual soft lockdown with classroom doors closed and locked during instruction and of course all exterior doors.  I’ll be curious to see how willing administrators will be when it comes to setting up shop outside.  Personally I’d love it despite having to change my teaching style somewhat without a few tech gadgets.

Senior year of football.

Senior year of football.

Best: Good start to the season. Caught a game winning 2 pt conversion in  a game where we were down 18-6 with about 2 min. left. Then had a 63 yd td on a trap play in a close game we pulled out the following week.

Worst: The 3rd week got speared and ended up with bruised ribs. Kept playing and had to go both ways and play some lb which led to me getting repeatedly owned by their 240 pound fullback / heavy weight state wrestling champ.  During the film session the next morning it was like an episode of Peanuts with me serving as Linus’ blanket getting drug all over the damn field.

It’s been articulated here…

It’s been articulated here and other places enough that it should be clearly understood that wearing a mask is an act necessary to stop the spread of a virus that could potentially kill people.  It’s for the common good, one of our core democratic values and thus a patriotic act.  At this point I can only come to one conclusion, you are too dumb to know you are dumb.

Yeah, that’s not quite how you phrased it. Just accept that you add to the deluge of trash on this board. We all do at one time or another. You’re no saint.

Taking Chance is very appropriate for this weekend.  It drives home the point of Memorial Day.
