D2A2 bus is your friend if…

D2A2 bus is your friend if you need transit between Ann Arbor and Detroit.  Leaves on the hour from the Blake Bus terminal in downtown Ann Arbor and arrives in Detroit about 45 minutes later (an hour in traffic, which I expect during the draft).  Drops folks off near the David Whitney/Aloft hotel, not too far from Comerica Park and a short walk to the draft festivities.  Costs for each way about $8 a person/less if you book online.  Last bus back to Ann Arbor leaves Detroit at 11pm.

I've always like Wayne State…

I've always like Wayne State's "W" emblem.  And their color scheme.

Anyone know why the dropped the "Tartars" nickname about 20-30 years ago?  And went with the generic "Warriors".  Seemed like such a unique team name, with the bonus of having Genghis Khan roam the sidelines.

The Western Front, Vladmir? …

The Western Front, Vladmir?  F-that.

Show some respect:  It's "Big Gretch".

Semi-serious question for the board:  I have a high schooler.  Based on the money we've saved, the kid is probably going in-state here in Michigan.  Grades-wise, UM will be a reach.  Assuming we get a polite Wolverine rejection letter, what is option No. 2?  Based on all the drama at MSU, I'm not feeling so hot about sending my kid and his 529 money to East Lansing.

Or do you still go to MSU because (1) it's a recognizable brand, (2) they have some decent-to-very-good programs, and (3) drama in the school's administration doesn't really affect an undergraduate's life that much?

I applied.  In my cover…

I applied.  In my cover letter, I expressly state that I will work for a mere 1/10th of what they offered Harbaugh.

But I want immunity.  And indemnity.  For everything.  From everyone.  Past and Future.

I eagerly await Warde's response.

It's Moore.  He nailed the…

It's Moore.  He nailed the audition and owns the locker room.  He can keep the culture going, and the players (and most of the coaches, I'm sure).  Not sure how those factors can be beat by any outside candidate.

The only thing I would advise is do the due diligence before announcing.  My guess is that it's been already done (whether when he was initially hired or promoted to OC).  But given this athletic department's...um...interesting approach to vetting candidates (see, Schemechler, Shemy), I would make sure there isn't anything funky in Sherron'e background before I coronate him.  That would be an all too easy way to stumble out of the gate.

But again, my guess is that the vetting has already been done.

Batsh*t crazy idea that has…

Batsh*t crazy idea that has zero chance of happening:  Do a public/private partnership with the folks that own Briarwood Mall.  Take the defunct Sears/Spirit Halloween area on the West side of the mall and make it a state-of-the-art 7,000 seat co-ed hockey facility that connects to the Mall.  Call it Yost 2.0.  You got parking, relatively easy in-and-out access to 1-94 and State Street, and it would boost the Mall's anemic foot traffic (especially if you re-envision that portion of the Mall to be an entertainment complex with food and drink options).  Open it up to townies for ice skating, especially in the summer.

Keep the og Yost and repurpose it as a indoor faclity for general sports use.

Again, zero chance of this happening.

One of my kids will…

One of my kids will inevitably end up at Michigan State.

I would like for it to not be a complete tire fire when he or she gets there, if only to get some yield of my tuition dollars.

So yay good hire!

The difference between "he…

The difference between "he started it!" and "everyone is doing it" defense vectors.  As the youngest of many siblings, I'm familiar with, and have used, both.

I think even taking "Michigan started it!" as the truth, these facts shows what the kids call "unclean hands".  You think Michigan was scouting and stealing signs in the past two years?  Why share Michigan's signs with Purdue?  Why not report Michigan to the principal's office then and there?

Oh...because *you* also were doing some level of sign stealing/scouting/crowdsourcing signal decoding.  Got it.

All of this boils down to one point:  The Comish better be verrrrry careful about instituting mob justice this week.  Especially when the hands that carry the pitchforks and torches are stained with mud.

The only way that the CSU coach's comments make any sense is if he and Deion got together and said "hey...let's do the WWE thing where we hype up the crowd with some fake disrespekt call-outs before the match".

If so, genius.  I was not vested in the outcome of the CSU-CU game, but I now kinda am?

Loved this.  My Dad is an engineer, but his curiousity of how things - any thing - worked was not limited to his engineering expertise (Civil and Mechanical).  I got that from him, and it has served me well.  I hope to pass it on to my kids.

Our parents shape us - whether well or not.  Sounds like you were well-provided, well-shaped by your Father.  May his memory be a blessing.

Are The Village People the…

Are The Village People the most subversive pop group of all time?  Hi...here are some gay porn stereotypes teaching your children a song about hookups at the YMCA, to be sung at every wedding, birthday and bat and bar mitzvah for the next 40 years.  And all during the dawn of the Reagan/Ed Meese/Moral Majority late 70s and early 80s.

As a little kid, I remember asking my boomer parents what the guy in leather does for a living, since the other members represented some sort of profession or identity.  Somehow I never got an answer.

Like...outstanding.  Hats off to you gentlemen for flaunting it all the way to the top of the charts.

Definitely going to watch.  Thanks for the tip, Unsalted.  I get some of the best TV/Movie recommendations from this blog.

Saying this as a Gen X'r who worshipped at the altar of Jordan:  I have no idea how the debate of Who-is-the-GOAT-LeBron-or-MJ works without mentioning Russell, Oscar and others from the NBA's early years.  Yes, different eras, different levels of athleticism.  But I don't buy Reddick's "they were going up against plumbers!" argument.  Or at least I don't buy it without giving respect to those earlier generations.

That's what makes the debate so much fun.

Oh no...what will happen to…

Oh no...what will happen to the value of my Michigan Law degre...wait, don't care.

It's insane how much time, anxiety and energy is wasted on these rankings.  My son is coming up on a college choice.  Try as I might to de-emphasize rankings, the gravitational pull of "well, this one is ranked in the top 15 versus top 40" is strong.  I have seen folks turn down full rides at great colleges to pay full boat at something ranked higher.  It just leads to all sorts of irrational decision making.

And if Michigan Law wants to encourage more public interest lawyers, how 'bout they stop loading up graduates with over $200K ($300K?) in debt?  Get some rationality in that tuition.

Your son’s strength comes…

Your son’s strength comes from having dedicated and loving parents and supporters like you. My prayer is for a full recovery and that you all come through this gauntlet stronger than ever.

Absolute basketball genius, but the dude is sort of a team cancer. He causes drama for the sake of drama. At this stage, I’m not sure if he adds as much to a team as he takes away from it.

He does add confirmation to my bias against all things Duke, so that’s a plus.
