The NCAA doesn't stop a student athlete from getting a job, but they do care how much they make...

"While at work, the student athlete can earn up to $2,000 per year above the value of the full grant that is given to he or she while on scholarship."

"This means that if a football player works at a construction company, his earnings are not deducted from the football team's budget as long as his earnings don't exceed two thousand dollars more than what his full grant is worth."

For those of you who don't know, jvick works directly with Barwis on a daily basis. I won't go any further into it, but I went to college with him and he's definitely aware of exactly what BM does.

My father is a former

My father is a former president of the MHSFCA and has some stories that sound like this. It's also not a coincidence that the all star game, which has been held at MSU for ages (with the exception of a few years at U of M and I believe 1 year at Ford Field), was recently moved to CMU. Dantonio's actions and attitudes are most definitely divisive within the high school coaching community.

I'd walk East on Prospect if I were you and you'll have a lot of choices. When you hit E. 4th there's a section to the north that is foot traffic only that has a good selection of bars, and to the south (toward the Q) is the Harry Buffalo, which has good bison burgers. If none of those options suite you, keep going east. You'll hit City Tap (like they said, good beer selection), the winking lizard, and paninis. Good luck.

Having personally scouted him

Having personally scouted him earlier this season, I definitely thought he was a more college ready TE than DE. I'm sad to hear this news, but things happen I guess.

I love this one. My alma mater (not Michigan, but located in Michigan) is ranked 234 spots higher than MSU but I'm not allowed to rag on MSU's academics. Sparty logic at its finest.

I just clicked the link and it still works, are you trying to watch at work?

According to my facebook and

According to my facebook and twitter, MSU must have handed out TONS of diplomas tonight, because every fan of MSU is an alum or current student.

Seriously though, they played a near perfect game and won. I wasn't convinced the evidence was indisputable on that last play, but whatever. Having a Blocked FG, blocked punt, a safety and 2 ints means you probably shouldn't win.

I'll be interested to see how

I'll be interested to see how the offense looks without one person dominating the ball so much. Morris is a great player and I'd love to have him back, but there were times when the offense felt stagnant last year because Morris was always in control of where the offense was heading. I expect a lot more ball movement this year, so backdoor cuts and skip passes will be key.

Also, I expect to see Stu taking over a big part of the PG duties early, and the freshman taking over more as they learn the system. Definitely a great time to be a Michigan basketball fan!

When I played we had about 10

When I played we had about 10 guys tested before the season, another 5 or so during the season, and then another 10 or so for the post season (D-III playoffs). We generally didn't have advanced notice, just the kind of "When do you have class? Get down here to pee in a cup today before practice" type of warning. I was on the players council with our head coach, so we were sometimes responsible for letting guys know on top of their official notification. So unless you were one of the guys tested, you generally didn't know it was going on. That's just how we handled it though.

Both of my parents went to Hope

They pushed me to attend too. I went on a visit and it quickly became apparent I didn't fit in with the culture of their students and community. I have no personal knowledge of Cousins, but I generally find the non-dbags get the hell out when they can.

I strongly dislike Sparty

Because they act as though MSU is the #2 institution of higher learning in the state. In reality, they aren't even in the top 5. I've been told I can't make fun of MSU's academics if I didn't go to Michigan, but my school is ranked 234 spots higher than MSU and is only 45 miles south.

Hoke

I think Hoke has changed the tide on the rivalry. Hell people in Ohio are starting to believe him. Never in a million years I would have thought that. Selling Michigan jerseys is a good start.

Great story for this girl and

Great story for this girl and her teammates. My senior year in high school we had a girl play on the team who  was all-state in track and an honor student. She found the biggest problem to be learning the terminology and plays. I thought it was interesting this girl said the same thing, "I know some play names, but I don't know what they're doing," she said. "Before, I mean, I thought in football you just run the ball up the field. But with all the plays ... I have so much respect for those guys, every single one of them, to know all the stuff they know."

Still, it's great that she seized the opportunity she was given.

I really hope the yanks get

I really hope the yanks get fisted.

Definitely Not

There will be plenty of things to learn from the game film. For example, there were a few drops and a few bad decisions throwing the ball. They played very very well, but the old saying "it's never as good as it looks, and it's never as bad as it looks" certainly applies to this game film.

I was really hoping this

I was really hoping this thread was going to be about an opportunity to sign Woolfolk's cast. Dammit.

No

Start with more short routes (hitches, slants, arrows, seams) to get him in rhythm early/get his footwork in order on shorter drops.

Granted, I don't know much

Granted, I don't know much about the guys on the radio here aside from their NFL credentials and buckeye ties, but I think essentially Fickell did just tell them to fuck off by starting him this week. If Fickell doesn't win, OSU will be doing a coaching search at the end of the year and I'm afraid they won't have to look far to find some very qualified candidates.

I've heard a number of times

I've heard a number of times on the radio here in Cleveland that Fickell was pressured NOT to start Miller. Essentially, the big wigs at OSU were afraid of creating another TP by giving the starting job to a frosh right away. Looks like poor qb play forced their hand.

My smaller liberal arts

My smaller liberal arts school strongly disagrees with you. Michigan students and professors routinely traveled to Albion to work in our shark lab for a day, whereas we had students work hands-on for years at a time. In addition, many U of M psych undergrads were floored when they learned students in my program (myself included) were often working on our 1st and 2nd publications, several of which we were first authors on.

While I understand my experiences are not all-encompassing, blanket statements such as "smaller liberal arts schools can't cut it" are just flat out wrong.

Without knowing the play

Without knowing the play call, you'll never get a definite answer.

I always just own it. Yes, it

I always just own it. Yes, it happened. Yes, it sucked, and still sucks. But everytime an OSU, ND, or MSU fan brings it up they're just looking for a reaction. when confronted with the "DER APP STATE!" I usually say, "Yeah, I remember it. It happened. I don't let one game define my view of a program that has been around for 132 years. If you do, that's your choice." When I don't get worked up into a frothing, bumbling mess, they usually shut up or move on.

I used to love watching the

I used to love watching the LLWS on TV when it was the last game or two. Now it's on for like 3 weeks and it seems just like too much. It's great that these kids get a chance to be a part of something as special as the LLWS, but I'm not sure it has to be broadcast to the extent that it is. In this case, less is more.
