14-13 under a minte left

14-13 mich down under a minte left Michigan has a man up coming

many athletes are In school year round. most of them take summer and sometimes winter classes if the school offers it. if they take full time summer courses they basically completed 6 semesters in 2 years

Current Class

their current recruiting class is huge.  Here is a link that i hope works.  Not to sure on how to link.  Lots of players from top schools such as la costa canyon ca, the hill academy in canada, brother rice in MI, and chaminade in NY. the team is definately doing a great job nationally.

not an expert

I'm not expert so you may be right.  I coach college lacrosse and if one of our male coaches get a raise, it is a big deal because they have to figure out how to put that into a coaches salary for a women's team.  Im not the AD but, it could also be an institutional thing at our college rather than a title 9 issue.

There are three basic parts

There are three basic parts of Title IX as it applies to athletics:

  • Participation: requires that women be provided an equitable opportunity to participate in sports as men (not necessarily the identical sports but an equal opportunity to play).
  • Scholarships: requires that female athletes receive athletic scholarship dollars proportional to their participation (e.g., if there are 100 male athletes/100 female athletes and a $200,000 scholarship budget, then the budget must be split $100,000 to men/$100,000 to women)
  • Other Benefits: requires equal treatment in the provision of (1) equipment and supplies, (2) scheduling of games and practice times, (3) travel and daily allowance, (4) access to tutoring, (5) coaching, (6) locker rooms, (7) practice and competitive facilities, (8) medical and training facilities and services, (9) publicity and promotions, (10) recruitment of student athletes, and (11) support services.

Coaching is considered a benefit to student athletes so they must equal out.

coaching salaries

I may be wrong but I think the discrepancy in women and men coaching salaries comes from a title nine issue; the total payment for men's coaches must equal or be close to equal to the total of women's teams coaches.  So since football takes up a huge chunk in the male coaching department they make up for it in the women's sports and have lower salaries in those same sports for men.  Again, I could be wrong, but this is my understanding of why women's coaches are getting paid more.

seattle's 12th man

if seattle's 12th man wins does that mean all their fans get injured or does the stadium fracture somewhere?

to be fair

it does say just above the depth chart that they do not take into consideration injured players, red shirted players, incoming freshmen, or transfers. That would be why woolfolk is not on there.  It says they will add these players in their spring issue of the same thing.

Plus 1

I like the plus one format, and i like this idea except for #3 for the final four plan.  i would like to see the top 2 teams host the semi-final game.  This way, it is an advantage for you to win still during the regular season so as not to diminish it, does not take away from any bowl games, and the top 2 teams are rewarded for their accomplishments.  Maybe this would start to encourage teams to stop scheduling cupcakes because a semi final game at home late in the middle of winter would be huge for whoever gets it.  Also, having a home game is easier for fans, it can be difficult to get a fan base to travel that much especially in december/january.  just my 2 cents

Excellent Pickup if True

looks like he will be an excellent player.  the school he comes from puts out a few really good prospects every year too. Not a bad place to get into at all.  Next years class already has a 6'6" 270lb lineman named Mike Madaras who according to his profile also runs 4.8 forty.  might be a pretty good pipeline from maryland to have.

G.I. Profit

you sir an american and mgoblog hero

Odoms is a beast

i love watching him play, he is definately one of my favorite receivers.  I can't believe how well he can block, he plays a lot bigger than his size.  glad to hear he is healing up.

has there been any news on woolfolk lately?  have not heard anything about him in a while.

players at hose positions.

To bad we aren't recruiting firemen, i bet we would get a five star for hose positions

four loko

people everywhere are stocking up on this stuff before it is pulled.  got banned in new york and now michigan.

i just dont get whats wrong with being drunk AND wide awake

switch

the only reason i asked is because jack miller plays both ways in high school.  also q washington and big will both switched, ferrara switched.  RR seems to find ways to get guys in the best positions to succeed.

o--line recruiting

if we end up getting chris bryant as well as cyrus hobbi in this class, is there a chance any of the guys who are o-line right now move to the defensive side of the ball?  i believe jack miller plays d line also, can he make the switch to DT?

wolverines as pets

does having pet wolverines make the guy on the show more bad ass than barwis and his wovles or is that still not possible?

redshirt possbility

if they do reach max potential at the same time any way, why not redshirt to get that max potential a little bit longer?  sometimes they leave early, sometimes they stay.  if they stay you get the best of that player for a longer period of time.

Confidence problem

do you think its a lack of confidence in corners or the safety positions?  i think our corners have played pretty well in coverage but its cam and kovacs that seem to struggle in coverage.  I think rogers and jt have done a pretty good job, maybe its that they are in zone, but they seem to be able to make plays on the ball where kovacs and cam are better at tackling/hitting and not the ball hawking safety types.

Once you enroll in a college

Once you enroll in a college or university your eligibility clock for years to play starts ticking.  he would not be able to redshirt with out losing a year of eligibility.  once you start school, you get 5 years to play four.  for instance, you can't enroll, go through four years of college and then expect to be able to play four years.  you would only be able to play one year and be done. i played lacrosse in college and this is what many coaches explained to us.  Also in hockey, its the reason many players come in after playing juniors and play college hockey from age 21 to 25.

preseason physical I played lacrosse in college. They always gave a vision test before our season as part of our physical. It is basic. They "test" for heart conditions also but its not thorough. Even if the vision score is low it usually wasn't reported to anyone. I remember our goalie thought he saw a smiley face and an asterisk on the chart when it was all letters and it was never reported to our coach or head trainer. He could still save the ball well though.
injury

i agree that under normal cicumstances tate's shoulder could have healed in two weeks, but when you get hit and sacked the way he did, its almost impossible to do.  When you repeatedly get slammed on an injured shouder it stays injured.  The timetable for healing for injuries usually doesn't include them still actually playing and taking hits.

blurry face

he watched the wrong video tape

tight ends the tight ends have done a real nice job. all three of them have made plays and done a nice job all over today
lewan anyone else notice him/think he is doing well? to me when i watch him he looks really good, fast great feet. he has done a great job today at left tackle
denard definately looks like a starter so far, much more patient and composed
wow i did not know there were other bills fan on here. Good to see another one. However, the buffalo bills tend to draft pretty poorly i'd say. hopefully a new staff full of "football guys" can do us some good. the old motto for the draft was to always take the best player available despite need.
summer school they will usually have them enroll for a summer class so that they can do those things with the team as soon as the graduate, alot of sports do that actually.
wild cat the miami dolphins would probobly disagree with you. that team won football games by running this formation. that organization is run by Bill Parcells and is coached under one of his former assistance and they feel and proved that it can and does work when its run properly. not to mention that head coach was also a rookie head coach. it also worked late into the season even after teams had a chance to see it and scout on film and in practice.
texas recruiting mack brown recruited four wr's??? i dont understand why coaches recruit so many of those.
ny football As a coach in wny I can tell you first hand football is not a huge priority to the nys school budget committees. Our preseason is very short for high school only four sometimes three weeks before games start. No practices or spring football is allowed to be played. Any off season stuff is usually an indoor passing only league. Anything organized for the school players can not be school associated other wise it is deemed illegal. Catholic or private schools however do not have follow nys public high school regulations which is why they are starting to have an influx of talent here In wny. Many of them are scheduling games with teams from Ohio and pa now as well The season is short too and getting shorter. Only eight games are being played next season down from nine this season. Also school unions play a big roll in who gets coaching jobs. In Many school districts teachers get jobs over more qualified coaches because the teachers want a larger pay check to retire on. In many school districts here football prpgrams are killed by teachers just coaching for money especially since football is most often the highest paid coaching salary in most districts Also many areas lack quality youth programs. More and more are starting and improving so hopefully this starts to curb the trend and we start sending our athletes to some bigger schools.
the bars being open till 5 to the bars being open till 5 to 7 am on weekends is a blast too.
Turner Gill Turner Gill has turned a lot of heads here in WNY. the team is becoming very popular in the Buffalo Area. Rumor around here is that he and his family really like this area. When i student taught, i was actually at the school his daughter was at, man is she a good athlete too. Dont know if he has any other kids, but i know she absolutely loved being here, dont know how much that will have an affect on moving to a new spot in the future. hopefully UB can get a 8 million dollar buyout clause or something so they can make money off him leaving if he does
transfers any chance there some players transferring into michigan?
