My graduate institution (Columbia) is being hammered right now. Not just because of their lack of punishment for an offender, but because instead of making actual administrative changes, they have instead inacted "reforms" that place the responsibility on the students of the school.

They have actually forced us (with the threat that non-compliance will result in holds or withholding of diploma) to take consent training. A rather interesting paradox. Either way, their attempt at fixing this issue was basically outed by the student body as a PR campaign and they are getting hammered even harder.

Perhaps

I am showing more and more proof that I was born in Taylor... (Forgive me, oh ye' MGoPeeps from nice, nice areas devoid of meth filled bars and such.)

I am also a class of 2010 grad so perhaps my generation is insulting the proper lexicon of Michigan reference.

OMG

Is there really a kid named Maximus Bortenschlager? I WANT.

I know

I agree 100% I watch this and I get the odd feeling that my spit can weld titanium.

Marcellus

I like Marcellus more and more. It's kind of cool that he went to Columbia!

God

Reading this made me so happy... I wish I knew why...

Probably that "English Major" part.

Someone's getting dangerous

Drinking that Alcoholic Unicorn Blood.

Are you high?

I guess their records are similar if you subtract about fifty wins, a national title, and two major upsets over top-five Oklahoma teams.

But hey, keep telling yourself that Miles and Mullen are equal. It isn't even close.

This

Graduate school rankings are so specific that you do need to pay attention to individual program rankings. Law, Medicine, and Business are some areas that Michigan will always be better than OSU, but OSU has a stellar history PHD track and from I am told, they have wonderful programs in Social Sciences in general at the graduate level.

As undergraduate institutions (unless you get a useless degree--and you know of which degrees I speak of) Michigan is the second highest ranked Public University behind UC-Berkley. I believe OSU is around 10-15 in the Public University Rankings.

With that said, I feel like the trend now is graduate school prestige, which again means you should go to the school that offers the best ranking in your particular track, and has a climate (socially not environmentally) that will allow you to focus on what matters for the duration of that time. For example, I elected to attend Columbia's MFA prgram, not just because it has an Ivy League tag (though that was a plus) but living in NYC allows me extensive networking opportunities that are vital to my line of study.

As a Michigan graduate (class of 2010) I do have pride in the academic strength of my school, but I do not like it when people bad mouth Ohio State University. It is actually a wonderful school, and when we bring up how much "smarter" we are than OSU graduates, it makes us look stupid, and kind of like losers.

Bull

I am an Alum, and I donate a ton of money, and I would be thrilled with Miles. I don't understand why we think we are so special that we can make claims like yours. We are a great educational institute, yes, but we are not Harvard... hell, we aren't even Stanford or Northwestern.

I think people also forget that Les Miles went to school here and bleeds blue (have you ever seen another team's coach cheer for another team during their rivalry game? re: geux blue.) I don't think he comes here and does something that could hurt the legacy of a man he worships like Bo.

He has won 78% of his games in the toughest conference in college football. He has a National Championship ring, and has played for another. He turned Oklahoma State into the team it is now (it was shit before he got there) and he handed it off to someone who has made it even better.

I will never understand the bias fans have against Miles. I understand the people inside the program and their frustrations with him, but frankly people, you need to stop pretending you have any idea about that stuff. It isn't your business.

And also, I am of the belief that he would come in here and destroy the Big Ten. He would have two serious games all year; in non-build years, he would have ten wins without breaking a sweat--because he is an amazing coach.

Seriously, go to the forum posting about coaches over 75% wins. His name is on that list.

so you're saying....

Sigh

I will never understand the dislike on this board for Les Miles... where is the guy who links in Miles' record?

There is also this:

I will

I will never understand the dislike for one of our own (because that's what Miles is) who wins 78% of his games and has a national title.

Yes, you saw that number--78% of his games and there are Michigan fans here who say "fuck him" or "he sucks."

Some of you people absolutely blow my mind.

The more I watch this...

I think he is the spirit medium for Bo...

Why you...

He heard you. He is pissed now.

It's kind of crazy

that this thread actually produced some "information" (said loosely).

Come on now

Don't be a tease!

I like the part

Where you said "Harbaugh."

I think it's clear that

Also

I think the "what talent fits the system" argument is kind of invalid in an Air-Raid. Obviously a Navarre isn't going to run zone-read; but I am pretty sure (correct me if I am wrong) that when Stoops took over at OU they were running a very antiquated style of manball and he brought Mike Leach over from Kentucky and told him "Have fun." That first year they won 7 or 8 games. The next year, a BCS National Championship.

When you have talent open in space with room to work, magic happens. But like I said before, I don't care what system we run, as long as it works. I went back and watched Harbaugh's Stanford team in the Orange Bowl; that's a straight up MANBALL squad and they averaged 40 pts a game that year.

That's more than fine by me.

Some big schools

That run Air-Raid are Texas A&M. Oklahoma was for a while, but Heupel seems to have adjusted the scheme to fit the more mobile and less accurate QBs he has. They also have a pretty awesome stable or backs.

But when they had Bradford, that was basically straight up Air-Raid.... kid had several 500 yard games in a row that year they played for the Championship.

That's my point--Bob Stoops and Heupel will change their look to match what they have on a given year. If they get a beast back (like a Green, for example) they will mix it up and run the ball CONSTANTLY (out of everything from a spread, to a diamond, to a wing, and a lot of Pistol Veers) but when they have phenomenal QB talent (I don't know who we would have to compare to a Bradford or a Landry Jones, so this is a meh point) they air it out. He started out as a DB coach then a DC then a head coach. He essentially lets his OCs (he has two, I believe) run their offense with very little oversight, and they adjust YEARLY.

This is a point made even more obvious in their OU Training days thing for ESPN (which you can watch on Youtube if you're inclined) where Heupel straight up says in the Offense meeting "don't worry, we expect you to learn a lot, but it will be an offense built for you, as a team, that you can succeed in.)

That's a nice thing. And I think we all don't care how it gets done, just that it gets done.

Obviously

Dafuq?

Thanks

Yeah, I don't know much at all about that offense or its history. I love watching it work when it works though.

I wasn't

Advocating for one over the other, honestly.

I don't think a ship has ever "sailed" when you are talking about a team that has been around for 135 years and will be around even longer. But when I look at what Urban Meyer has done at OSU, I think to myself, "Why was it so easy for him to that when we couldn't?"

I think outside of QB and OLine, you don't have to get wildly variant talent to run a spread-offense. I think what Meyer has done, is go more "Power" with the spread versus "Speed." Picture this, for a second, Shane Morris in the backfield, running pistol veers with D. Green. Now, what happens then is that Morris is moderately mobile, and is a threat to run--or he pulls the ball down and fires to a bubble screen to stretch the defense.

A good coach can install aspects of his system and still play to the talents that are on the team. I am not saying Mullen is my second choice, but I think he would essentially run a pass-happy spread using possession and dives while he builds a network of his ownly recruits. You would have a lot of 8 win years, maybe better, until all his pieces were in place. He wouldn't WHOLESALE install his spread for about five or six years; he would however introduce parts of it, since as a scheme, it is really, really good.

Yeah man

I just don't get why people don't want Les Miles here. He flat out wins. Period. Who cares if he develops QBs? LSU has pretty much never needed one.

You SURE you don't want this guy?

In addition to his wonderful accomplishments (which your trollness doesn't seem to accept) you have this!

Yeah man...

Two national title rings... He must suck. /s

He didn't need to paste Wisky for me to think Ohio State hit a massive home-run with Urban Meyer. There are a couple of bucks here in graduate school with me and they are literally the happiest I have seen them since their National Title run.

It just makes me want nice things...

This

Jim to his wife: "Baby, trust me, Ann Arbor is awesome. You'll love Briarwood mall."

Most

Pro-coaches (and coaches in general) don't have the Alma Mater dream because most of them went to low level schools; Chip Kelly went to New Hampshire, Saban went to Kent State, etc.

For Harbaugh it is different because his Alma Mater is the winningess program in history, and more importantly, can pay him as much as any pro-squad. I think it comes down to dollars, he might love Michigan, but it's going to be money. If we pay him, then he will come. I firmly believe that.

I just hope we do that.

I would

I would like to think he has at least been asked... Maybe this is a sign that Hackett is all in on Harbaugh, or maybe Les is lying.

I need to stop F5ing...

Can

Can we all just accept Charles Woodson as our lord and savior now please?

I am going to go cry tears of joy in front of the picture with the rose in his mouth. My all time favorite Wolverine is STILL winning for Michigan!

Spooky

Other than the run it back part... THIS JUST HAPPENED!

Anyone have a camera on Harbaugh to see if there was any winking?

And

Arizona and Seattle both are up right now...

itshappening.gif

I bet

Charles is too professional to do this after the game. But I have a feeling he has talked to him; I would like to think he said, "Yeah, I am in Oakland, but you don't want to be. Go home and save our program."

I could see Jimmy giving CW his coaching career start (if he were interested in such a thing) working with our secondary. Maybe this is just me being insane: Charles Woodson is my favorite Wolverine of all time.

No

I don't like this. Not at all.

Question

Will you really take anyone's money if they're giving it away?

My craptastic

My craptastic New York apartment doesn't have the ability to watch Harbaugh's old teams play each other... so I am watching all of the teams that can keep him out of the playoffs, such as the Seahawks... god I hate cheering for the Seahawks.

Man

Oklahoma fans are ridiculous... people in there calling for Stoop's head and calling him garbage...

He pretty much always wins ten games, pretty much always go to a BCS bowl, and has a national title but one bad year and they freak the hell out like this?

He deserves better... like us if we can't hire Jim Harbaugh.

This

I have been thinking this for a while now. It seems that only graduates of Michigan seem to understand what this place does to people. I go to graduate school at Columbia, one of the finest institutions on the planet, but I still consider myself, first and foremost, a Michigan Graduate. For some reason, I am more proud of that and more emotionally connected to that.

The national people can say "The NFL is this" or whatever, but people who went to Michigan understand that this school has a special place in the hearts of its Alums. I am willing to bet Jim Harbaugh feels that same love for this school that we all clearly feel.

I was

I was just thinking the same thing. The former players I know (who are probably not connected really, they just talk to people apparently) have all said $8Mil with some provision to keep him from immediately bolting back to the NFL.

Keep in mind, these are just fomer players and they are in no way connected to admins. That being said, I think it's the same place where the dudes who write some of these stupid articles get their information--meaning that the truthfulness of these claims is probably a lot of bar chatter with guys who still hang around the program.

You would

Rather keep Brady Hoke, who just finished the year 5-7, over a coach who is wearing a National Title ring?

Some of you people are literally too stupid to insult.

I love it when

I love it when people find creative ways to say "Jim Harbaugh."

Even

Even Brian Griese was saying changes should be made during the last minute. He then did the whole "he's a great, great. man" line they have all said. But he was pretty clear that 5-7 isn't good enough.

I think the non-muggles (I was an athelete a Mich, not a football player, so I guess I am a muggle) are finally not willing to hide their eyes anymore. The rumblings from the football players I do know are without inside knowledge, but they're not cool with the results anymore in private. They will never say it out loud, but privately, they're not happy. I just hope Hackett, a former player, is just as unhappy as everyone else...judging by his "playing candy crush and giggle face" during the last two minutes, I am not optimistic. Seriously, I don't understand why this is even up for debate inside the admin right now (but seriously, there is a lot of momentum behind the "let's keep him" camp). It worries me.

This is why everyone hates them

My prediction?

It

is so good. I think if he comes here he won't have to worry about his boss "apologizing" for him.

I will also get super sentimental if he is on the sidelines next year. I might play that "I'm coming home" song on repeat for a month straight.

I need

The Ron Paul Gif...
