How long do you have to have been in state to qualify? Live in California now, considering eventually moving back for life and family reasons.

I can't wait until the student debt bubble blows up. The current system is a perfect storm for screwing kids.
Kids: I have to get a degree no matter how much it costs because if I don't get one I've been told I can't get a good job.
Banks: Sure we'll loan you the money no matter how much. It's bascailly no risk because the government's got our back, plus bankrupcy laws make it almost impossible for you to stop servicing till it's done or you die.
Schools: These kids will just take out loans for whatever we charge because they're afraid of being futureless and uneducated, and the banks will provide whatever loans the students ask for because in the current system it's risk free. Let's skyrocket tuition.
It's going to be hell for the economy when an entire generation nopes out on over a trillion dollars in liabilities, but it beats life long debt-based indentured service, for anyone who's not rich and wants to know what chemistry is.

I'll bite. Had realitives in this weekend. It was wonderful. Live in LA. Wife and I want to move back to Michigan. Hour each way commutes are bad for our toddler. I work in tv/film production and sometimes as a comedy writer. No idea how to transition skills back to the Homeland.

The NCAA is so dirty if it weren't for the fact that I love Michigan so much I'd probably have abandoned college football. As it is, I sometimes feel pretty aweful for helping perpetuate a group that just screws young people.

If the NCAA won't investigate this, maybe the IRS should.

He shouldn't have done it in the first place and your point about that is totally valid, but it's really hard to criticize someone for changing their mind to the right thing.

Nice little dig at the end. I'm very aware it's common practice. And while using the word scared is a bit of an exaggeration, his quotes indicate he does want teams to have to play against those they've trained and developed.

If that's the case, maybe we'll get lucky and Spike will teach some team we play our defense.

If Harbaugh told a kid he wasn't good enough to contribute but he was too afraid of the consequences to let him play at Indiana, then Harbagh would be in the wrong too, It would also suprise me that a man like him would be afraid of competition from someone he let go.
|13 weeks 1 day ago||“It’s a slippery slope. I||
“It’s a slippery slope. I want what’s best for Spike but also what’s best for our program. You train a guy and develop him for four years and suddenly he’s the starting point guard at Michigan State?”
This is a garbage quote. It even would be in pro sports. Some kid doesn't work out in the minors and he's released? Oh, guess he should never play again. If an organization selects someone, trains them, and decides to let them go that's on their own scouting, player development, cost benefit analysis. It's part of the game. If you're too bad at those things to recognize your own talent that practices every day in front of you...get better. If you recognize it and still let it go and it beats you? Your fault. Get better at making choices.

The whole point of being ok with Michigan not going to ever be a top program is that Beilein is a good man that does things the right way. He represents Michigan's ideals well. I was totally fine with that.
Then he pulls this crap. I see no point in defending him anymore.
|14 weeks 6 days ago||There's a lot of great stuff||
There's a lot of great stuff about Beilein. Can't disagree with him more here. Any policy that that makes students more indentured to schools rather than getting to make the best decisions for themselves based on whatever factors they care to consider is worsening an aready unfair balance.

Dude, no one reading this wasn't cheering for Michigan in those games. But pointing out those games are stupid and shouldn't exist in the future (for anyone, not just Michigan) is pretty much just responding to reality.

As a youth baseball expert and experianced parent, any specific or general advice for someone just entering that stage of parenting?
I'm not going to push my son into anything, but he's built like a fire hydrant and way too early projections have him at 6'4. If that plays out and he likes sports he might have a decent shot at at a scholarship or at least have a lot of great memories.

Maybe it's not an overarching comment about rap they're trying to make, like how you're trying to make an overarching comment about people disliking something you like.
Maybe they just think Kanye is an over-produced douchbag attention whore (which he actually is) and they don't care about the latest soulless piece of catchy ear candy that he's trying to shove down everyone's throught.
Old people that think the past is going to just up and come back of course are out of touch. But other people who think the present is going to stay the same and somehow just become more of itself are even more naieve.
