I have frequently felt, while watching Harbaugh's Michigan offense do cruel things while up by many points, that they are running war exercises because they need the live fire experience. Like he's trying to teach his men something on every snap, like he's trying to give them a chance to prove something to themselves, like every down of real football against real competition is sacred and should be treated that way.

The commentators said it during the game and Brian said it somewhere here on mgoblog. It's not even a surprise anymore, I just enjoy every strange and entertaining bit of phrasing that follows that dude around.

I don't think MSU would plan to hurt our guys, but I can't confidently dismiss the possibility that a frustrated young Spartan watching an entire season slip away and suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of a hated rival might lose his cool and try to leave his mark on our season by injuring a key player. I don't want to believe it - I don't believe it - but I would be vigilant, just in case.

I know a win is a win, but I would certainly enjoy the thorough sort of stomping that sends a message of dominance. And here's the thing - Harbaugh can do that without it being personal or petty, because he's always trying to win with cruelty against everyone, so this would simply be like stacking MSU's corpse on the pile and saying "You're just like them now. Get used to it."

Thanks kind of awesome. He tips the hat to a respected rival, an obscure-ish (?) 1993 psychologial thriller film, and a civil rights activist. Good luck staying as hip as Jim Harbaugh, everyone else on Earth.

I worked out these scenarios right when the UM-UW game finished, because technically I'm a Badger so I feel somewhat obligated to hope for the best for them (as long as it doesn't involve ruining Michigan's day). I was happy when I realized Wisconsin still has a very real shot at going to the Big Ten championship game, but then I realized Michigan would have to play them again if we do take the East, and thinking about what a damn heart attack the first Weasel Bowl was, I just dread Weasel Bowl II. So ... whatever.

I'm a scientist by trade, and one thing we have to come to terms with in research is the reality that we can pursue something for months or years only to find out it's a dead end, or to have the bottom fall out entirely for reasons unknown. I've seen so many of my colleagues hit absolute walls at full speed, and they just sort of pick themselves up and get back to work trying something else, or finding a way around. Any time spent feeling sorry for yourself is just a waste. It's a great example that I try to learn from.

Living in Madison, I've never heard the term "Wisky" used to refer to UW. The only place I ever hear it is mgoblog. That doesn't mean it's not a legit nickname, but I don't think it's one that badger fans use themselves. I actually like it, because it reminds me of an alcoholic drink. "UW" is used a lot, as well as 'Sconsin (and Wisconsonites are therefore Sconnies). Another thing - people often talk about going to the "badger game", which I find to be a curious bit of nomenclature. In Michigan, we never talked about going to the "wolverine game." Actually, it seems like Michigan doesn't lean on the "wolverine" mascot so hard compared to Wisconsin, where everything is badger this and badger that. Anyway, that's my two cents.

Lol thank you for catching that. I wrote some code to scrape the data off the website, so it must have tripped on some formatting.
EDIT: My code was right, ourlads.com had his weight listed as 19 lbs - I'm assuming they just dropped a zero.

I might just add the second string on the depth chart together with the first string, because they see significant time on the field too.

Don't I know it! I guess I'm gonna have to finally contribute to Wisconsin in a head-to-head competition against Michigan, which feels weird, but everyone's a winner here.

Have you heard of (or watched) The People vs. O.J. Simpson? That's actually the first season in a series called American Crime Story, and the second season will focus on the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. It could go a long way in bringing that particular world to light for many Americans, like myself, who still don't know that much about what happened there.

I don't even mind watching or listening to coverage from the "bad guys'" side - I remember listening to a Notre Dame radio station during a UM-ND game, and it was somehow less annoying to hear them cheering on their team when it was what you expected them to do. Like, it just felt honest. Plus, we won, so I got to enjoy their existential horror.

I used to dislike Collinsworth because I thought he came off like a jerk and was sort of negative all the time. But honestly he just diagnoses plays so fast and tells you exactly who screwed up and how that allowed the play to be successful. Now I don't mind his general tone because I appreciate his substance way more.
