We both thought it was just OK. Sure the writing was good, but the subject didn't go deep enough. It was easy to put it down.
I actually knew Mike R as an undergrad fairly well (I was tight with the Daily folks). Neg me all you want, he is a good guy. I was shocked when he wrote that Michigan slam-piece 5 years ago. Totally out of character for him. With that said, he got what he deserved. I can't blame people for being pissed at him. And I still can't help but crack up over some of those reviews of his book. "Mesner's Relief" is my favorite.

No. He did not.
|5 days 19 hours ago||I wonder what a non-gimped Michigan team would have performed||
Remember, we were without our best player due to injury...McGary. The reason we forget about that is because we don't make excuses for it. We battle on.

But bravo, nonetheless.
|1 week 5 days ago||You bring up an interesting point.||
I don't think DB thought Hoke was an NC caliber type coach, but I think he thought he was a B10 winning caliber type coach.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||It's kinda amazing when you think about it||
Late summer the common theme on this board was:
1. Hoke is going to turn it around this year, his kids are experienced and well coached; he'll leave Michigan when he wants
2. There is no way we get Harbaugh. It ain't happening. He's not leaving SF and if he does, he's going to another NFL Team.
Then bit by bit, the stars started to align slowly to a beautiful cresendo in late December. Its really amazing if you sit back and think fo all the little things that had to happen (and did) to exceute such a great hire.

WTF is with your avatar, man?! That's some seriously horrible chin spinach! I just threw up a little in my mouth.

So there should be no black coaches in hockey?

You? Calling...me...naive. Oh god...

The objective is to put together the best staff. Period.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||great Mitch Hedberg joke!||
|2 weeks 6 days ago||It doesn't sound ridiculous...||
...and that's the unfortunate part. It sucks that there are still kids out there that would rather not be couched by an all white staff.
This may sound ridiculous, I kinda don't want those kind of kids. I want kids that are open and welcoming of all races.

Just looked it up. Saginaw High is correct.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||I believe he was at Arthur Hill||
Not Saginaw High. I could be wrong.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||S&C||
I'm actually curious about who we get for our S&C coach. We seem to have been painfully deficient in this area for a long time.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||Great!||
I actually sent this question to Brian for a future mailbag post. I hope to hear things sooner.

But it's Magic Johnson HIV, so I'm good.

That's what I did. I went back 6 years after UG to Ross. Worth it.

Or lead to a place where it might be paraphrased?
|6 weeks 1 day ago||That's kinda of the point||
Michigan has to reach far back to show relevance. We are not really relevant now (to some extent). Wisconsin has a lot more recent success that resonates more with kids.
But I'm with a lot of folks. All it takes is the right coach and we're back, baby!
|6 weeks 1 day ago||Just listening to it myself||
It was really bad, because it was mostly true. They really held nothing back and it was painful, but at least they backed it up with some stats.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||There may be some merit here.||
But its very minor. Hear me out.
My perception during the RR era and definitely during the Hoke era (and somewhat during the Carr era) was that it was OK to lose to OSU more often than not. I don't know what it was, but we accepted this fate - that is was OK to be second fiddle to OSU. We stomached OSU defeats by rationalizing moral victories and other such excuses.
We didn't really demand anything more from our coaches in this regard. This may why incoming coaches might say something like this.
