...but I don't think we had a whole lotta open looks. I watched every game this year, I've never seen this team have so much difficulty finding a good look. Also, I don't think we played a team as athletic as Oregon.
|2 days 1 hour ago||Their defense was disruptive||
becasue they had far superior athletes. They were in our face. On the other side of the court, they (for the most part) had no problem driving and creating opportunities (and second chance opprotunities).
|2 days 1 hour ago||This game reminds more than ever...||
...that athleticism rules in bball. We do a good job making up for it in scheme. I just wish we would focus on getting more athtelicism during recruiting.
|3 days 6 hours ago||Yea...||
...should have gone to St. Elmos.
|3 days 7 hours ago||So what you are telling me is that it was aliens?||
|4 days 7 hours ago||Notice how the image is "stretched"||
Its for effect. That's really a 1 inch vertical.
|4 days 9 hours ago||Speaking of shot trajectory||
Do you guys remember Bill Laimbeer shooting 3 pointers? His shot had almost no trajectory - it was like he was throwing a fast ball at the rim. But he still managed to be a pretty good 3-point shooter.
|6 days 4 hours ago||He's not the biggest ant-JB person on the board||
There are far worse. Stringer is very fair and objective when critiquing JB. He's never said a bad word about JB's character, and he give's credit where credit is due. He, like me, just doesn't think that JB is an elite coach.
I find that SB is a great balance to the blind JB homerism on this board.
|1 week 5 hours ago||Honestly||
I don't think so. I tried a couple places for the KSU bowl game a few years back. Bubcus!
|1 week 2 days ago||You are cherry picking stats||
For one, why did you pick 5 years to go back?
By all objective evidence, Wisconsin has performed MUCH better than Michigan over the past 20 years (including 10 years of JB). I mean just take a look at JB's record against Wisco (and MSU, Indiana for that matter).
|2 weeks 9 hours ago||While the past 2 years have been bad for osu||
Matta has arguably achieve a good deal more at osu than JB has at Michigan. I agree that JB is likely a better coach, but Matta can recruit far better.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Agreed!||
I wish there was a gif of DW getting geeked to add to the Aneurism of Leadership hall of fame. Previous hall of famers:
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Fantastic win!||
Just out of curiosity, was there an Aneurism of Leadership #3 that we can pin this giant upswing in basketball performance?
|2 weeks 1 day ago||I don't think I remember seeing that before||
But did Kam travel on that play?
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Ugh!||
I'm not anti-JB. Dear lord!
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Maizen =/= vast majority||
|2 weeks 1 day ago||ok||
|2 weeks 1 day ago||See, you're doing it again.||
You are using this instance to attack anti-JB people for some reason when it has nothing to do with it. And you sound even worse when you say,
"the vast majority of the complaints I read here, which is, essentially, 'if it takes cheating to win, Michigan should cheat.'"
I don't think I have ever heard anyone on this board say anything close to that. And if someone did, its certainly not the vast majority. Your propaganda machine is on max power.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||no||
|2 weeks 2 days ago||How about you gain some perspective||
The way JB handled the situation yesterday was great. I would expect nothing less from JB. However, that is completely separate from how he performs on the court. You're inappropriately using this instance to further your steadfast opinion that JB is a great coach, when in fact this has nothing to do with coaching. These are mutually exclusive things.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||My biggest worry||
Is that they will fire Marta and pick up Miller. Miller is like a young Izzo in that if you provide him a place to flourish (like osu) he'll stay there forever and succeed. I really wish we can get him at some point.
|2 weeks 2 days ago||No good!||
This ensures that we have a bad loss. The osu loss hurts us. Not like it will change much, but still.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||BTW...||
...he posts this exact post in most basketball related threads, so people like you and I can bite.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I think that's fair||
You're right, lots of bball ahead to determine if this season is a success or not.
I guess the results to date are very "meh". Hoping for some magic in the coming weeks.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||5th or 8th is irrelevant||
An injury-free, senior-led team (especially one coached by JB) should perform a lot better. I expect better. You don't. Nothing wrong with that.
With that said, they are certainly playing much better these days which is great to see. I hope this can continue into the BTT and NCAA tournaments.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I'm not in the fire JB camp...||
...but come on, man. Last night's game was great, but let's look at the entire body of work. We finished 8th in the B10, that's the bottom half of a slightly above average league. This is a senior-led, injury-free team. Are people really happy/satisfied with this? If so, then there truly are low expectations for this program.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||What?! You lost me here.||
We are NOT Wisconsin. Not even close. I don't think there is any objective data suggests that we are on Wisconsin's level. Just off the top of my head, over the past 10 years take a look at:
1. # of B10 Conference titles
2. # of B10 Tournament titles
3. # of NCAA tournament apperances, including average finish (#final fours, etc.)
4. Average final B10 ranking
5. % time as a top 25 team
6. head to head record versus each other
7. head to head record versus other top B10 teams
8. head to head record versus RPI top 50 teams
While I haven't done the research myself, I'm fairly certain Wisconsin has us pretty well beaten in each of these categories (could be wrong though). And that's just for starters.
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I should have been more clear in my last post||
My expectations for the program have nothing to do with past performance. I think too many people look at who we were under the past few coaches and determine who we should be now and going forward. I look at other things like our top-notch facilitities, school brand (including jumpman stuff), close location to very good talent base, etc and determine who we can be now and going forward. I really think we can be a lot better than this.
As for what I expect out of our program, the best analog I can think of is Wisconsin. Why can't we be like them? Is that too much to ask? What do they have that we don't?
|3 weeks 1 day ago||I agree with most (but not all) of your post||
However, you seem to imply that JB's integrity and classy qualities are somehow super unique to college basketball. No doubt there are some major scumbags in college bball (you mentioned a couple), but still the majority are no different than JB in terms of integrity. I think too many people think that "integrity" and "winning" are almost mutually exclusive and the only person who can do both is JB. This is where I disagree.
I think we can do a lot better than JB and maintain our integrity. This is nothing against JB, for whom I have a lot of respect, just that I have a certain expectation for the bball program that I don't think JB can really hit.
|3 weeks 6 days ago||I'm not quite Stringer Bell on this topic...||
...but I have been very clear that I don't hold JB in such high esteem as many others on this board. He's just is a good solid, but not great, coach IMO. With that said, he does deserve a high level of praise and appreciation. He is a class act and "does things the right way TM". He took a down-trodden program and brought to a respectable level. The next guy will take it even further.
