Ours is a university unlike any other, and there is no place I would rather be.

I have told the Board of Regents that Michigan is where I wish to conclude my career. I will retire as president when my contract ends on July 31, 2014.

The University of Michigan deserves the best in a leader, and I want to give the Board ample time to select the next president. I am committed to working with the Board members to ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Leading the University of Michigan is the most challenging and rewarding work of my career. It is a tremendous privilege and one that continually energizes me.

When a new president is in place, my husband Ken and I plan to live in Ann Arbor and remain active in the community. We have always lived in college towns and there's really no place like Ann Arbor. We did not think twice about where we wanted to call home after the presidency.

Today, it's much too soon for goodbyes. Instead, let's move forward and continue to advance the academic excellence of the University of Michigan.

Have you guys heard of "After Innocence" documentary?  Follows the After Innocence project, they promoted it a lot on campus in '06.  It's on netflix and quite the eye opener on the legal system.  Super scary,  and super sad.... It's on netflix and I strongly recommend it.

If this is for me i'll give you the quick answer (General Studies)  and

the tl;dr answer:

I started off in the RC, and was pretty much undeclared- I knew i could take the courses i wanted to take, and retrofit a major at some point.  RC Social Science was that way- but it required a research/thesis and I didn't have the time to put out a good product.  So Iultimately decided to go BGS.    I focused on marketing courses in the b school (fought to get into those), took accounting, EECS183, Public speaking in Schoo lof Kinesiology... i was all over the place.  I basically mirrored Org Studies.

How does Oladipo score so much in the paint?  it's like he just sneaks in there everyttime and outrebounds.

Yeah I think it's very feasible to get back to NYC after Ross (one of the top destinations).  I'm not in i-banking, i work in systems integration practice a major consulting company, and want to transition into either mgmt consulting or maybe even something marketing/technology focused.  

Basically, it comes down to- how much is Columbia's "brand" worth.

Yeah Columbia isn't giving me anything, and michigan is giving me full tuition.  Having a girlfriend complicates things a bit (not the deciding factor, but is a consideration).  It's hard to ask her to uproot and move to Ann Arbor (she loves NYC, friends family etc.)  I'm 28, she's 29 so the idea of moving to a "college town" isn't as sexy.  Although, AA is more than just a college town IMHO.  At any rate,  i suppose these are "champagne problems".

For the record, I agree with you 100%, but to make the case... you can hide being gay a lot easier than you can hide being black.  You don't have to ask Jackie Robinson is he's black.  In that sense it's not apples to apples.  If all of a sudden a player comes out, it creates controversy, and it could disrupt the locker room a couple of different ways.  And on the ideal team where your entire team could be okay with it, the media circus that would ensue could be an unwanted distraction.

I don't know that he out performs say Braxton Miller, but few QBs will next year.  I think DG will have a very strong season, and we see the best offensive season for Michigan to date (in the Hoke era.)

Are you not counting wisconsin because they're ranked now?  If I recall, they weren't ranked (although they should have been) when we lost to them.

Don't forget, Aaron Heilman (an ND alum) gave up a homer to Michigan and had to sing The Victors.  That game ended in a 4-4 tie I beleive.  (I'm a mets fan, so I love that they do this.  One day, I plan to go down to Port St Lucie for this game.)

This was literally a question.  I'm not saying we should be fouling just to foul, I just don't know how important it is to "not foul".  So we keep hearing "fewest fouls in the country" but how does that transition well, when I constantly see players getting uncontested looks in the paint? Maybe the solution isn't to foul... maybe it's just this last stretch, but it just seems like we can't seem to make it difficult to penetrate.  

Someone below mentioned the over-comitting on double teams, and I have to say I agree, we seem flat-footed at times on defense, which leads to points in the paint (particularly when our big men are away or out of position.)  McGary hustles his ass off, and i think generally our big men are underrated.  

I really was asking this as a question, though.

I like this. I think our running back situation will be vastly improved (presuming Toussaint comes back healthy.) Whoever wins the battle will have earned it- although I think both will see significant snaps.

Basketball players maybe, but not football players.  And it's not like hockey, where these kids are balancing a minor league or Euro contract against CBB.  Recruiting, and the general current structure all but channels them into CBB, especially ever since the NBA stopped allowing HS basketball players go pro.

Latest is they still don't know, but they're saying it didn't look good.

I agree, people need to cool it.  If he really felt that way about Ohio State, why would he come here?  And if he did that, he'd either grow out of it, or eventually realize he's not a cultural fit and probably leave.  I don't take issue with what he "said."  He just learned a valuable lesson though, about how he's got a larger megaphone these days.

Wilton Speight - QB - Richmond (VA) Collegiate: The 6'6", 217-pounder has no offers at this time.  Speight might be the sleeper of the group.  I like the way he throws the ball under pressure.  Sometimes it's unbelievable how accurate he is with guys in his face, but to be honest, it seems like he's in a habit of throwing off his back foot because of a porous offensive line.  He barely has a chance to breathe before two or three defenders are in his face.  He's a little too stiff in the pocket for my liking and will struggle to avoid college rushers; he lacks great arm strength and has a little bit of a hitch in his delivery.  He just looks very unpolished.  I could see him going somewhere like Texas Tech or Washington State and lighting it up a few years down the road, but I don't think he's a good fit for Michigan.

I get your point, but at the same time why is there virtually only one path to the NFL (amateurism)?  You don't have to go through NCAA to play professional baseball or soccer.  Why can't athletes capitalize off their skill sets, while Athletic departments can?

I can't really name too many, but career ending injuries... absolutely there are plenty of examples.  My point is essentially (slight variation to your topic) is why shouldn't these kids be compensated now for a rare skill they have?  Free tuition isn't a fair trade.

It definitely happens, i mean it happened to us (Fab Five.)  it's happened at Ohio State, and it certainly happens in the SEC.  The question you should really ask is... why haven't they gotten caught?

I wish I knew the answer, but I will say, if you look at Tennesee as one example.  Three players held a person at gunpoint, and the fan didn't want serious repercussions, stating he wanted the players to stay on the team.

Back when Mike Hart was the cover of the banner (or some point around that time) Harbaugh took (what many view to be) a jab at Bo, and Michigan Football's academic standards for football players.

Needless to say, it got ugly, and people are still bitter over it.  I personally didn't like the comments, but who am I to judge*. if Harbaugh were to say, win a few superbowls, and want to coach Michigan once Brady Hoke was done, I'd be up for it.

*Harbaugh knew Bo, Michigan coaches, and sacrificed a lot more than I have for Michigan athletics.

First of all, David Cone was a Met great.  Second, it was Michigan's David Cone, aka febreeze.

Ok two points:

1. They're a powerhouse and in our region and a direct competitor for recruits, they'll still probably play MSU and Purdue or someone in the B1G.  I think it's okay to keep

2. Not related, but I'm thankful for this Te'o incident.  Next year when Michigan plays ND, and an ND fan comes at me with something 'smart.'  I'll probably reply "Hey, it's cool bro, my girlfriend here is a notre dame fan" (obvs pointing to thin air.)

I'd say no.  I don't necessarily agree with LightTheLamp.  I think he lasts longer than 3 games, but his career wouldn't be very long.  He also will have similar issues (learning to block among them.)

Sure his draft status may have dropped, but going to RB won't rise his draft status and increase the amount of money on his first contract.  I think he's just going to have to dedicate himself to route running.  I think his hands will be fine, but he needs to be crisp with the routes.

In short I think he'll have a better, longer career at WR / Slot than if he went to RB.  He's going to be an investment, but could wind up being a steal in this draft.   His route running is underdeveloped, yet he still can gain separation from his defenders.

I agree- he is a high ceiling guy (just like when he was at QB, he had a higher ceiling than did Tate.)  He's had a handful of snaps at a new position competing against top level competition. Look at DG, he struggled at the very same thing (route running).

My guess is, if you think DR will be drafted early, you're probably in for a surprise.  However, i think late enough, DR could wind up being a steal, especially for football teams that are good at building players up.  With coaching and experience, he could be a great asset for a football team.

I'd say my opinion of Notre Dame would change.  I'd support ND's decision to protect their own, however it's not a good message to teach kids how to clean up messes.  But if he doesn't want to come out, (if he were gay) then kudos to ND for supporting him.

I've got to say this is a strange case, but I have to admit... this happened to a friend of mine.  (No seriously, not me... a friend of mine.)  He'd been a victim in HS to something similar,  a group of guys created a fake screen name (this was like 1999)  and had an online relationship with him for a few months.  This of course, was before having skype or anything like that was common place.

I don't know if i do or do not believe Te'o, but I doubt he invented this to win a heisman.  You don't win heismans for sympathy.  And if anyone voted for him based on that, they shouldn't be allowed to vote.
