I thought the whole point being the legend jerseys was that the honored players and their families wanted to see the numbers out there again. Retiring them send like a step in the wrong direction.
Hopefully the retirement ceremony will induced some sort of memorial for the numbers in the stadium. They were no where before, and no one but the die-hardest of the die-hards knew we had retired numbers, let alone what they were.

I don't think cable demise is imminent, but it's happening eventually. I think the demise will go down at about the rate newspapers have disappeared - they've been dying for 20 years now, but most of them are still around, if very cut back. So cable isn't going away any time soon, but I bet 20 years from now the thought of expanding the conference solely for cable fees will look about as stupid as if the conference had expanded based solely on newspaper distribution 20 years ago.
The sports channel race was always a house of cards based on getting fees from people who don't watch that particular sport. It's a bubble driving demand for entertainment without paying for 20 sports channels you don't care about, and eventually someone is going to reliably fill it.

Potential explanation for the Houston Texans being so high: Don't they own their stadium outright, where the other teams you listed play in publicly finanaced stadiums? That could be a big part of the value of the franchise. I'm pretty sure it's the same for the three NFL teams in the top 10 as well.

I don't have a list in front of me or anything, but there were many debates about it on this site back when Three and Out came out. There were multiple places where the descriptions of games and events were factually incorrect, and some of them were immediately apparent to die hard fans. I didn't think any of the errors made a difference in the overall theme of the book or any of the conclusions reached, but some people looking to refute someone writing negatively about Michigan latched on to them as reasons to discredit the whole book. The difference between benign factual errors and making up and embellishing stories depends on your point of view after all.

I'm pretty sure most of the love for orange is coming from people remembering their cheap shirts from Steve and Barry's. Five shirts for $20, who cares if they are the right shade of yellow!

I don't care what the official color is, stephenrjking made a post yesterday full of historical photos and the football team hasn't been wearing the official color for as long as color photography has existed. The only pants in those photos that are close to the official color are on other teams. So I think all the people lobbying for the official color seem to be traditionalists longing for a past that never existed.
This was the photo he posted at the end, and I agree. This is how the football team should look, whatever the "official" colors are. And the official colors are nowehere near this or any other color we've ever worn.
I tried picking as close to this as I could without going too highlighter, and picked FECF200*. Maybe one of the lighter ones would match replicate the picture better, but it wouldn't be an orangey one.
*Extra zero? FECF20?

Michigan pretty much is doing this as well. We had the ND series scheduled instead of those games though. And we had the Arkansas series scheduled in the break in the ND series, and have been scheduling home-and-homes with teams like that in the future in place of the canceled ND series. The problem is that these home-and-homes are being scheduled many years in advance, and the way the ND series was suddenly canceled made it hard to find games for the next few years. So it sucks for the next few years, but the blame lays mostly outside our athletic department, and change is coming in the future.

We need some sort of hall of fame for t-shirts that seemed like a good idea at the time. I can add my Fergodsakes t-shirt.

I'm not implying that - I've said in other places I don't think apparel matters anywhere near as much as the Nikebots on the board make it out. But the sort of thinking that has multiple posters here fretting about leaving money on the table *has* affected fan attendance in other ways. So while this one deal won't make much of a change in attendance, it's a hopeful signal that maybe the new leadership in the athletic department will consider something other than next quarter's revenue when making decisions, whether it affects the players or the fans.
|3 weeks 4 days ago||This is true to a certain||
This is true to a certain degree, but once you're revenues are high enough it doesn't hurt to leave a little bit of money on the table to make players and/or fans happy. In fact it may pay off even more in the long run through better recruits who win more games or happier fans who won't stop buying tickets if the team has a down period. I think the Brandon era would show the perils of making every decision based on next quarter's spreadsheets.

All 18 year olds are idiots. Millenials just happen to be the ones who are 18 now. Most of us grow out of it when we get older, so give them time and they'll be replaced by a new generation of idiots who care about some other stupid thing. You were an idiot too, and if it wasn't about athletic apparel it was something else...

I'm kinda sad though. It will make zero difference to me in buying apparel, and I've seen enough crappy Nike jerseys to think it will make a difference in how the team looks. But I was sorta hoping we re-upped with Adidas so I could bath in schadenfreude during the meltdown of the Nikebots on the board.

I hope it's better than Falk's last book though. The number of new stories those walls would tell were few and far between. Half the book was repetitive letters by other people talking about what a great guy Falk was, and most of the Falk stuff was season in review stuff that wasn't new to anyone familiar with the recent history of the program. For someone who had been inside the program for almost 40 years, there weren't very many inside stories. I wasn't exactly desparate for Falk to get back together with Ewald to get more by the time I finished.

I was wondering why he was left out of HTTV. I guess he was one of the supposed potential medical redshirts and Brian left him out because of it?
|6 weeks 1 day ago||I think it's stupid for the||
I think it's stupid for the same reasons Brandon's focus on expanding the brand was stupid. The marginal gain from cornering the market on college football fans in Mexico City is going to be more than offset by upsetting long time season ticket holders who don't get marquee out-of-conference games with their season tickets. This is an example of taking the main revenue sources for granted while chasing people who are never going to buy Texas tickets, and that was what started the ball rolling on getting Brandon driven out of town. Any expanding the brand that occurs won't matter if your main fan base doesn't want to buy tickets any more.
|6 weeks 2 days ago||It's way easier to justify||
It's way easier to justify the status quo rather than further expansion if they can claim no one wants gigabit. Of course people would want gigabit if it were somewhere below $300, but they'll leave that part out.

Is this going to be a replacement for mgoblue.com? Because I.... don't like it. At least in comparison to mgoblue.com. Maybe it's because I'm an engineer, but as far as I'm concerned function >>>>> form. Give me something that's kinda ugly but makes it easy to find the information. This looks pretty, but makes it harder to find out actual information about the teams.
The worst thing I saw was the roster listing under "The Team" section for different teams. It shows 6 photos at a time, and you have to side scroll to see all the players. Not awful for the basketball team, which only has 15 members, but totally useless for the football team. Who the hell is going to scroll all the way over to Moe Ways?

So Harbaugh is allowed to have only satellite camps or only camps in Michigan?
Seriously, Mullen is saying this stuff as Harbaugh is in the middle of the SMSB and Exposure U camps right here in Michigan.

I think Drupal has less to do with the server issues and more to do with the site design though. And it seems like it's the servers that are the issue here. IIRC Brian is self-hosting this site (along with his brother's site) on personally owned servers. Anyone have a clue how much it would cost to upgrade to an actual hosting service? I think that would do way more to improve reliability than switching to WordPress.
|7 weeks 2 days ago||Is anyone here not owning it?||
Is anyone here not owning it? I don't think anyone here is disputing that the ultimate goal of the camps is to make connections and spread Michigan's recruting influence. But as long as Michigan is doing it in a way that is positive for the high schoolers and their coaches and not against NCAA rules, what's the problem? There isn't one unless you're and SEC coach trying to prevent outside coaches from making you work harder to land recruits.
|8 weeks 1 day ago||CFN is generally awful||
CFN is generally awful because they take a newspaper approach to the internet - in an age when there is unlimited space for anyone to go in depth with a team of their choosing, they expend all their resources doing 30,000 foot overviews of *every* team. As a result, you can count on them having something about your team, but it won't be nearly as good as the stuff from sites that actually focus on your team.
Way back in the day Brian reserved the Fiutakin' it tag for clueless columnists who didn't let their cluelessness get in the way of hot takes, but even that got old five years ago. And CFN is somehow still going...

Does this mean he passed his TOEFL or whatever and actually been accepted into the University? Because that seemed to be the question surrounding him. |9 weeks 2 days ago||Because not everyone got the||
Because not everyone got the offer Michigan got. Adidas gave Michigan an offer that was way beyond what anyone else was getting with Nike (or anyone else), plus they guranteed Michigan would be the highest paid team for the length of the contract. Obviously they can't gurantee every team be the highest paid, but Michigan was a big enough name to make it worth the big price to make a splash and get the Adidas brand out there.
