Argh double post
|15 hours 20 min ago||The problem isn't that he was||
The problem isn't that he was addressing people attacking the players, the problem is that he was doing it in response to a question about people unhappy with the coaching staff. Instead of addressing the question he deflected it and made it sound like anyone unhappy with the coaching staff

Obviously no coaching change is guranteed to work out. But when you know your current coaching change isn't working, sometimes you have to take a chance that you'll be in the minority that improve after a change, unless you want to be stuck in mediocrity forever. The real question for us is if the current coach can work out.

I'm just tired of the offense looking lost and poorly coached. I thought the coordinator change would help, I was wrong, Fuck this bullshit.

Beer is good. Michigan football is bad.

I like that the #1 jersey is finally back out there. My only desire is that Hoke gives the number to some incoming freshman after Funchess is gone so we can finally be done with the mouth breathers making these "need to earn it" arguments. No one had to earn it before Braylon, and it's a shame that we've gone nearly a decade without anyone wearing #1 because somehow that became the standard. Hopefully this is the start of that coming to the end.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||Me too. History is filled||
Me too. History is filled with teams that were great despite relatively low talent, and rarely were they great for long. Putting together elite teams without elite talent is *hard*, and especially hard when you lose a bunch of multiyear starters from your team strength.
I don't think they'll be bad though, just merely very good instead of elite like last year. I think the closest analog is probably Wisconsin, who also consistently puts together good teams despite mediocre recruiting thanks to program stability and coaching. But Wisconsin rarely finishes in the top 5 (only once in the last decade, 2006, and only in one poll), and only slightly more often in the top 10. They're usually in the top 25 though, which is good for that level of recruiting. The top 10 years are the exception, not the norm, and I expect things to be similar for MSU.

Just signed up and I'm playing around, found one feature suggestion quickly: It would be nice if we could filter stocks by conference.

I have a Moto X and I'm very happy with it. It's much smoother and has a lot better battery life than the Galaxy Nexus I replaced. And the voice commands are very handy. Only potential issue is future support - Motorola has only guranteed 18 months of updates, and they phone is already a year old. But it's available for cheap right now with the X+1 coming out soon.

Either Michigan is a lot better than 2011, or the Italian teams are a lot worse, but the previews I read predicted these types of scores. UMHoops specifically mentioned that Notre Dame was beating the same teams by similar scores a week earlier. The next game is the only one that was expected to be a challenge.

I wonder what MSU's redshirt percentage was back in Dantonio's first few years. It's one thing to redshirt most of your freshmen when almost your entire two-deep is filled with known-quantity upperclassmen you personally recruited and spent a few years developing. It's another when you're hoping the new guys might be better than the leftovers of the previous coach's classes. I doubt Dantonio started off redshirting 12% of the freshman right off the bat, but I have been wrong before.

Hasn't Brian been promising an upgrade to a newer version of Drupal for like forever? One that has a mobile website module with it? Seems like it's getting kinda late in the offseason for an upgrade like that.

Brian said there ran 90% inside zone drills during warm-ups, but he says nothing about during the actual scrimmage. But Space Coyote did a write up on the scrimmage, and here is what he had to say:
Emphasis mine, but it does seem a little bit like the spent more time working on the thing that needs the most work.

Nothing will ever purge the sting of that defeat. Ever. App St. wants to play us because because they are moving up the FBS this year, and there is no better way to make the jump than to remind everyone of that one time they were nationally relevant. Whether or not they beat us doesn't really matter as long as they are back in the spotlight again. No other opponent would put them back in the media spotlight nearly as much as a rematch of The Horror.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||OSU and MSU are conference||
OSU and MSU are conference rivals with respectable teams. We're going to have to play them every year, and beating them will actually prove something. The App St. game was completely avoidable and here is no margin of victory that will stop people from talking about that one time we lost to them.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||It has nothing to do with the||
It has nothing to do with the opinion of the media. It has everything to do with not being able to enjoy the usual previews in anticipation of the season without everyone having a convenient excuse to dredge up memories of the worst single week in Michigan football history.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||Memories of the absolute||
Memories of the absolute horse shit preparation and performance by Lloyd Carr and his staff would slowly fade into the background unless there was a reason for all of the media outlets to reminisce about it at the same time. And DB provided the reason.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||I'd be very surprised if this||
I'd be very surprised if this is the only oral history of The Horror. And I'm sure ESPN.com and SI and a half dozen other CFB sites will have retrospectives too. And I can't wait for College GameDay to have a segment about it. Anybody got an over/under on the number of times the FG block will be replayed during the game broadcast? What a way to get Michgan fans pumped up for the start of college football season.
But at least we'll have a Wow Experience. Thanks DB!

This is great. I've tried expressing this same idea before, but I've never been able to do it as concisely and clearly as you do here. I might need to borrow this in the future.
|8 weeks 4 days ago||I agree that DB needs to try||
I agree that DB needs to try to fill those seats. But the problem is the things he is doing to attract people aren't working, and in the mean time he is discouraging long time customers. The bunch of Miley Cyrus tweens aren't going to pay astronomical prices to get crammed into a stadium for four hours and then sit forever in traffic on the way home because there is rock music in between plays and fireworks at the end. That stuff works at minor league baseball games because those games are relatively cheap and easy entertainment for the family as long as there is something to make everyone in the family happy. If he wants to attract the casual fans, he needs to set the prices at a level that doesn't discourage the non-die hards. Otherwise, he needs to stop all the crap that is ruining the experience that made the die hards love the games in the first place.
|8 weeks 6 days ago||I'm assuming it's way cheaper||
I'm assuming it's way cheaper to play the bad bad teams, since everyone else wants to avoid the RPI hit as well. So I suppose it depends on whether the people in charge of scheduling prioritize a few RPI slots or next quarter's revenue statement.
|9 weeks 3 days ago||The Brabbs Game||
Haven't been to very many games since I graduated, but the best game when I was a student was the Brabbs game. Crazy back and forth game with a tense, improbable, last second finish. Not the most important or anything from my time there, but definitely the best.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||I agree that it should be||
While would prefer the the color-coded version, the biggest advantage the old recruiting board had going for it was that it was updated frequently and had it's own front-page link. The key was you could get a relatively recent 10,000 ft overview of the recruting situation all the time. If this post was perma-linked and updated occasionally, it would be 90% of the old board right off the bat, which would be great.
|9 weeks 4 days ago||This reminds me, the site||
This reminds me, the site should really bring back the old recruit tracking chart. Maybe I'm just getting old, maybe I'm not paying enough attention as I used to, maybe it's because recruiting updates now cover multiple years, but I had a much easier time keeping track of all the recruits when Mr. Blue, Data, and Nefarious Eduardo were helping me out.
