Being part of the expansion to 14 teams. Going to 12 teams didn't disrupt the conference much and adds a tangible benefit for fans: the football conference championship game. There were some football scheduling issues, but that had more to do with goofy divisions priorizing an UM/OSU championship game over sane geographic rivalries. And basketball had two more single plays, but teams still had home-and-homes with the majority of the conference.
Going to 14 teams didn't add anything tangible for fans like the championship game, just the promise of future improvement due to increased revenue. In them mean time, now the football schedule will miss teams from the other division more often then they play them, and the basketball schedule has more single-plays than home-and-homes.
- The team they brought along with them was Rutgers.

I'm not implying that - I've said in other places I don't think apparel matters anywhere near as much as the Nikebots on the board make it out. But the sort of thinking that has multiple posters here fretting about leaving money on the table *has* affected fan attendance in other ways. So while this one deal won't make much of a change in attendance, it's a hopeful signal that maybe the new leadership in the athletic department will consider something other than next quarter's revenue when making decisions, whether it affects the players or the fans.

This is true to a certain degree, but once you're revenues are high enough it doesn't hurt to leave a little bit of money on the table to make players and/or fans happy. In fact it may pay off even more in the long run through better recruits who win more games or happier fans who won't stop buying tickets if the team has a down period. I think the Brandon era would show the perils of making every decision based on next quarter's spreadsheets.

You may not have been that dumb, but I'm sure a whole bunch of people your age were.

All 18 year olds are idiots. Millenials just happen to be the ones who are 18 now. Most of us grow out of it when we get older, so give them time and they'll be replaced by a new generation of idiots who care about some other stupid thing. You were an idiot too, and if it wasn't about athletic apparel it was something else...

I'm kinda sad though. It will make zero difference to me in buying apparel, and I've seen enough crappy Nike jerseys to think it will make a difference in how the team looks. But I was sorta hoping we re-upped with Adidas so I could bath in schadenfreude during the meltdown of the Nikebots on the board.

I hope it's better than Falk's last book though. The number of new stories those walls would tell were few and far between. Half the book was repetitive letters by other people talking about what a great guy Falk was, and most of the Falk stuff was season in review stuff that wasn't new to anyone familiar with the recent history of the program. For someone who had been inside the program for almost 40 years, there weren't very many inside stories. I wasn't exactly desparate for Falk to get back together with Ewald to get more by the time I finished.

Well, he was right about the private jet tour. But the jet just went directly to Ann Arbor.

I was wondering why he was left out of HTTV. I guess he was one of the supposed potential medical redshirts and Brian left him out because of it?

I think it's stupid for the same reasons Brandon's focus on expanding the brand was stupid. The marginal gain from cornering the market on college football fans in Mexico City is going to be more than offset by upsetting long time season ticket holders who don't get marquee out-of-conference games with their season tickets. This is an example of taking the main revenue sources for granted while chasing people who are never going to buy Texas tickets, and that was what started the ball rolling on getting Brandon driven out of town. Any expanding the brand that occurs won't matter if your main fan base doesn't want to buy tickets any more.

It's way easier to justify the status quo rather than further expansion if they can claim no one wants gigabit. Of course people would want gigabit if it were somewhere below $300, but they'll leave that part out.

Is this going to be a replacement for mgoblue.com? Because I.... don't like it. At least in comparison to mgoblue.com. Maybe it's because I'm an engineer, but as far as I'm concerned function >>>>> form. Give me something that's kinda ugly but makes it easy to find the information. This looks pretty, but makes it harder to find out actual information about the teams.
The worst thing I saw was the roster listing under "The Team" section for different teams. It shows 6 photos at a time, and you have to side scroll to see all the players. Not awful for the basketball team, which only has 15 members, but totally useless for the football team. Who the hell is going to scroll all the way over to Moe Ways?

So Harbaugh is allowed to have only satellite camps or only camps in Michigan?
Seriously, Mullen is saying this stuff as Harbaugh is in the middle of the SMSB and Exposure U camps right here in Michigan.

I think Drupal has less to do with the server issues and more to do with the site design though. And it seems like it's the servers that are the issue here. IIRC Brian is self-hosting this site (along with his brother's site) on personally owned servers. Anyone have a clue how much it would cost to upgrade to an actual hosting service? I think that would do way more to improve reliability than switching to WordPress.
|3 weeks 5 days ago||Is anyone here not owning it?||
Is anyone here not owning it? I don't think anyone here is disputing that the ultimate goal of the camps is to make connections and spread Michigan's recruting influence. But as long as Michigan is doing it in a way that is positive for the high schoolers and their coaches and not against NCAA rules, what's the problem? There isn't one unless you're and SEC coach trying to prevent outside coaches from making you work harder to land recruits.
|4 weeks 4 days ago||CFN is generally awful||
CFN is generally awful because they take a newspaper approach to the internet - in an age when there is unlimited space for anyone to go in depth with a team of their choosing, they expend all their resources doing 30,000 foot overviews of *every* team. As a result, you can count on them having something about your team, but it won't be nearly as good as the stuff from sites that actually focus on your team.
Way back in the day Brian reserved the Fiutakin' it tag for clueless columnists who didn't let their cluelessness get in the way of hot takes, but even that got old five years ago. And CFN is somehow still going...

Does this mean he passed his TOEFL or whatever and actually been accepted into the University? Because that seemed to be the question surrounding him. Officially signing his LOI is nice, but as far as I know you can do that before you are accepted. But maybe things are different for international players.

Man, people were doing so good with the No Valenti rule for a long time, but I guess something had to happen to remind everyone why it's a rule.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||Because not everyone got the||
Because not everyone got the offer Michigan got. Adidas gave Michigan an offer that was way beyond what anyone else was getting with Nike (or anyone else), plus they guranteed Michigan would be the highest paid team for the length of the contract. Obviously they can't gurantee every team be the highest paid, but Michigan was a big enough name to make it worth the big price to make a splash and get the Adidas brand out there.

Ack, you locked out my edit. But that's not what I was talking about. It was actually during the first Hoke spring practices, and here is the post I was talking about. Here is the best picture, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this being the road uniform:
EDIT: Going through the whole album, found a couple more decent looks:

Back during the Rodriguez years there were some practice shots of the team trying out new white pants with the uniforms and I thought they looked.... pretty good. I'd never mess with the home uniform, but I thought they'd work well for the road uniforms. Now off to Google the archives, I'll post the pics if I can find them.

I think this image pretty much sums up my dislike for the split M - it screams "Circa 1984" to me. I know being a Michigan fan means being a stodgy traditionalists, but it's not like we've haven't changed logos before, and the block M doesn't look like it's stuck at an arbitrary point in history.

There are a lot of annoying things about the internet, but my personal pet peeve is the need to shame anyone who likes something besides the 5 movies/TV shows/beers/restaurants Twitter has decided don't suck. Just, why?
PS: Brian, does this mean you've been on the internet for all these years and had no idea where this meme comes from?
PPS: A Royal Red Robin Burger is delicious. COME AT ME!

If Maryland was the 12th team added to the B1G, I think they would have had a much warmer reception. Two factors worked against them:

WolverineHistorian is great when it's the offseason and you're in the mood for some football and want to relive some great moments. I thikn this right here sums up all the problems with the Big Ten right now, and a sign that the Dave Brandons of the world are prevalent everywhere. Why do something good for fans when atheltic departments that are already swimming in money can make some additional revenue off of non-fans?
