Well...I don't think it is as easy as "turning down a national title for us just so another school can't win one in a different sport."
It really depends on what sports you value.
Hypothetical: Would you rather have the Men's Cross Country team win the 2014 National Championship OR Michigan Football go into Columbus in 2014 and thump an undefeated Buckeye team?
No offense to cross country, but would this not be a no-brainer for 99% of our fanbase preferring a football win in Columbus next year?
If you truly value Michigan Football over Basketball by a wide enough margin, it makes perfect sense to want to beat your rival in a big game with national implications.

Matt Millen is doing the Florida @ South Carolina game...he just said something to the effect of "and Legree turned into a Simon Legree with that pick."
Simon Legree is a fictional slave owner from Uncle Tom's Cabin that would beat slaves to death, rape female slaves, bribe slaves to beat other slaves with alcohol, and physically abuse slaves if they prayed.
Perhaps not the best choice of references.

Lewan's behavior is unacceptable. 2 years ago MSU fans lost a lot of integrity defending Gholston. I hope our fan base doesn't lose integrity defending Lewan's actions.

I use to work with a self-proclaimed "Biggest MSU Fan" that went to WMU that made the argument to me that Michigan was worse, because we had more fans that didn't go to our school......
Fact is, both schools have most fans not in their alumni base. Who cares? Only those looking to whine that is who.

Do the Legend Jerseys prevent new legends jerseys? Think about it, if your best players wear a legend's number (someone else's number).....it seems like it would be hard to get new numbers.

Don't write off Penn State and Northwestern yet as potential quality opponents.
BCS Bowl at large teams have had shaky games before... The VaTech team we played only beat a 5-7 ECU team 17-10, and the game was tied in the 4th with ECU holding the ball. They also beat a 3-9 Duke team 14-10 and Duke had the ball in the red zone twice in the 4th quarter for a chance at a go ahead TD and walked away with 0 points.

If I remember correctly, Michigan had over 300 yards at halftime versus Oregon -- but only 1 touchdown to show for all of those yards.

The facts are the same time Notre Dame was contemplating dropping us for the 2015 game...they added UMass.
The ACC was giving them wide flexibility in the first few years for making the schedule fit and work...
They claimed that SOS was important...Notre Dame could have kept Michigan...they dropped us and added UMass for 2015...

I agree: NCAA Rulebook for 2012
The Notre Dame player is making illegal contact down the field past the neutral zone and then again while the ball is in the air. That could be enough to call it on that alone.
The Notre Dame player was looking back at the ball as Herbstreit says, but that only allows you "incidental" contact in playing the ball. Shoving to push off back towards the ball is not incidental and creates separation that impedes Gallon's attempt to make a play (offensively or defensively).
Would it be alright for the Notre Dame player to shove Gallon from the side to create separation? No. Why would it be okay here?
Obviously I am a Michigan fan, but I don't really even see it as that controversial that these Notre Dame refs (ACC) threw the flag.

Knute Rockne made up a bunch of lies to sell himself and ND.
The Gipp's dying request to "win one for the Gipper" never happened - Rockne made it up. Rockne wasn't ta his deathbed, the doctor who was there the one time Rockne visited said it didn't happen.
George Gipp was not a student-athlete, went an entire year without being enrolled in classes despite playing, and went 2 of 4 years at ND without any grades whatsoever. He was a drunken pool shark that gambled on ND games he played in -- older than the players he played against that passed out in the snowbank drunk fatally catching pneumonia.
The Rudy story is full of nonsense for more self-promotion, etc...

Speaking of chickens...Notre Dame only has 3 true road games in 2014. 7 home games, 3 road games, and 2 neutral sites (where they will dominate the crowd).

Seems like if it were a major rules violation, he would have a clue.

I could also see him thinking that he would have more chance for playing time at Penn State - due to the sanctions. We are full of top LB recruits...PSU will have their sanctions for a few more years making their depth thinner than ours.
He might love UofM, but love the increased odds of playing time more.

To play Devil's Advocate...
What Spain did was wrong, but #1 Disease killed most of the people and #2 how is what Spain was doing any different than what the Aztecs were doing to their neighbors for generations?
The Aztecs killed, raped, enslaved, and pillaged their neighbors for years upon years. Once sacrificing an estimated 80,000 people they captured in a single dedication. The Aztec's neighbors helped Spain and saw them as liberators (at least for the time being).
Two wrongs don't make a right, but couldn't someone argue that Spain was no different than the Aztecs. Two overly aggressive nations looking to economically exploit others through violence. The only difference was Spain had immune systems on their side and to a less important extent better technology?

Western Michigan will lose a little something with the demise of the CCHA.
WMU could count on guaranteed sell outs and high demand for MSU and UofM, and perhaps even a few other teams. I don't think they'll have that on a consistent basis even with powerhouses like North Dakota.
WMU had 8 CCHA colleges within a 5 hour drive from Kalamazoo. In the NCHC, they have 1 college within a 5 hour drive (4.5 hours) Miami (NTM). The next closest college is Nebraska Omaha at 9 hours. WMU students could easily drive up 131 and attend a game at Ferris State and spend the night or make a return trip home that very night...that won't happen at any noticeable level in the NCHC.
Since WMU fans won't be able to easily travel to away games and opposing teams won't be able to as easily travel to Kalamazoo - you would expect ticket sales to have a negative impact. WMU's hockey team will also pay more for travel.
In some sense, UofM lost that too, but I don't think it will hurt us as much as a school like WMU.

As far as my reading comprehension goes...what is your reading comprehension of the comment? Is there really a "HardGay" poster name or was the "gay" part added in to insult that particular poster - hence the term "gay" being used as an insult?
