As to your question...
The defense will be better. We return 9 starters and 21 of 24 on the 2 deep. Throw in a lot of young players that didn't see any action due to redshirting and hopefully a true freshman named Peppers.
There wasn't a younger defense in the BigTen this year, we will be better on defense next year period.
On offense, we return 7 starters. Lose our best WR, but return Darboh from injury and Funchess. We also have some other young WRs. The RB position will not be hurt losing Toussaint. This position cannot get worse, it can only improve. QB situation will be the same or improve.
The offense completely boils down to the offensive line. Can they pass block? Can they run block? We lose our 2 best linemen, but we have a lot of highly regarded young talent. I do not have faith in Funk to get them ready.
It wouldn't surprise me if the offense regressed a bit.

No offense to cross country, but would this not be a no-brainer for 99% of our fanbase preferring a football win in Columbus next year?
If you truly value Michigan Football over Basketball by a wide enough margin, it makes perfect sense to want to beat your rival in a big game with national implications.

I agree: NCAA Rulebook for 2012
The Notre Dame player is making illegal contact down the field past the neutral zone and then again while the ball is in the air. That could be enough to call it on that alone.
The Notre Dame player was looking back at the ball as Herbstreit says, but that only allows you "incidental" contact in playing the ball. Shoving to push off back towards the ball is not incidental and creates separation that impedes Gallon's attempt to make a play (offensively or defensively).
Would it be alright for the Notre Dame player to shove Gallon from the side to create separation? No. Why would it be okay here?
Obviously I am a Michigan fan, but I don't really even see it as that controversial that these Notre Dame refs (ACC) threw the flag.

Western Michigan will lose a little something with the demise of the CCHA.
WMU could count on guaranteed sell outs and high demand for MSU and UofM, and perhaps even a few other teams. I don't think they'll have that on a consistent basis even with powerhouses like North Dakota.
WMU had 8 CCHA colleges within a 5 hour drive from Kalamazoo. In the NCHC, they have 1 college within a 5 hour drive (4.5 hours) Miami (NTM). The next closest college is Nebraska Omaha at 9 hours. WMU students could easily drive up 131 and attend a game at Ferris State and spend the night or make a return trip home that very night...that won't happen at any noticeable level in the NCHC.
Since WMU fans won't be able to easily travel to away games and opposing teams won't be able to as easily travel to Kalamazoo - you would expect ticket sales to have a negative impact. WMU's hockey team will also pay more for travel.
In some sense, UofM lost that too, but I don't think it will hurt us as much as a school like WMU.

You would want Morris in, would you not? In this team sport, would you not risk a year of eligibility for the very real chance of a national title now? Throughout every game I would notice a few inches lost or gained here or there based on my view on the sidelines and where the marker was attached to the chain.
In the ref's defense the camera wasn't dead on perpendicular either and all the ball has to do is be flush with the front of the pole...not saying the ref got it right...but I doubt he was out to get SC and he had the best view.

I hope you are right. When I heard them describe it on TV they didn't mention it and read this article that also didn't mention it.
Yet, even if you are right, is it still not a good rule. The player must come out and 10 seconds run off in most scenarios under a minute if there are no time outs left.
But even if it didn't result in a 1st down, in the scenario shouldn't Alabama have the chance to spike the ball and run a final play?
What if we were playing MSU and we got a 10 second run off and Denard had to come out on the final play against MSU, because Gholston deliberately targeted his helmet somehow pushing off the helmet as Denard fought for extra yardage in a pile. If the ref doesn't see a defender deliberately rip it off it will be a 10 second run off with Denard on the sideline. It isn't beyond reason to think that a defensive player out there would target a helmet in a game at some point this year at the end of a half.

What was clear to the ref was that Gholston laid motionless for 73 seconds and did not respond to him tapping him or other players - including the player he was laying on top of.
Concussion. A second concussion could cause permanent damage.
Shouldn't the ref be able to keep a player out in this situation if the coaches want him to play?

Won't happen, but I am tired of Notre Dame's self-righetousness with their independent status. Part of me wishes all BigTen schools would drop them from scheduling. I would miss the traditional rivalry, even though we didn't play them every year.

I actually heard someone fairly high up (forgot who) propose to start the ball on the 40 yard line 4th and 10 for every series. The team could then punt or run a play to try and pick up the firstdown in place of an onside -- thus eliminating kickoffs completely.
Personally, I must be getting old, I do not like any of these rule changes.

|1 year 51 weeks ago||As far as not punishing||
As far as not punishing innocent people, in this case the players and new coaches... Don't most punishments in some way indirectly punish innocent parties?
Example: A guy goes to prison for whatever reason, well didn't his 5 year old innocent boy just lose a father? Didn't his innocent wife just lose a source of income?
Another Example: A guy just getting by on mimimum wage gets a $100 traffic ticket and the points on his license increase the cost of his Auto-Insurance. His innocent kid now has to get less Christmas gifts.
Final Example: After 9-11, students could no longer go in on a weekday into the stadium and run around on the field and up the stands for exercise. On game days a whole list of seemingly harmless items were banned.
Maybe poor examples, but it seems like one could argue that innocent people are commonly indirectly hit by the punishments of the guilty.
I am not sure what the penalty should be, but maybe a loud message needs to be sent whether or not innocent people are influenced. But, I would prefer to not drastically effect players there.
We do punish to reform the offender and to prevent others from doing it. Maybe the punsihment needs to be severe to prevent others from looking the other way again.
|1 year 51 weeks ago||Additionally, you could take||
Additionally, you could take it a step further.
Hypothetically, let's say PSU gets the death penalty and their players can transfer and play immediately. One of our Michigan Dlineman has been working hard and has been dedicated to our program for years and he finally has won the starting job. All of a sudden a better PSU Dlineman comes in and takes his starting role.
Maybe it would make the Michigan team better. However, that original Michigan player may feel as if he has been punished for what Joe Paterno did some 700 miles away at a different school while he was in pre-school learning to read. Yeah the team and the best man starts should trump this, but would that not be a natural human emotion deep down to feel punsihed in this situation?

|2 years 2 days ago||It is possible for Michigan||
It is possible for Michigan to be "better" than a team, but be behind them in the rankings or get passed over for a bowl game. Michigan has a really tough schedule and could wind up with more losses than teams we beat in conference that we have to compete for in rankings and bowl games. Ohio State has an easy out of conference schedule nothing like ours. It is possible that a legitimate top 5 team could lose 2 or 3 games with our schedule...

Random 5 not in order of comparable or worse on the mistake scale to covering up a break in during an election that you would have won anyways:
1) Andrew Jackson - Mr. the supreme court has made its ruling now let them try to enforce it -- as the Cherokee or forcefully and illegally extracted from their land. Broke the constitutional rule of law not just cost people lives.
2) FDR - internment of Japanese Americans (and some German/Itlaian born Americans) during WWII without evidence is a shame.
3) Woodrow Wilson - at a time when ~75 blacks were getting lynched a year, he made statements and wrote books supporting the KKK as a noble group that kept order in the south and prevented chaos from blacks no longer being slaves. He even had a private screening of the pro-KKK movie The Birth of a Nation in the White House (which also quoted him in the movie).
4) George W. Bush - created an environment where only evidence for the foregone conclusion would be looked at and evidence to the contrary dismissed as we invaded Iraq. People died.
5) James Buchanan - sat on his hands while the country fell apart around him. making his job even tougher for Lincoln....
6) Lincoln, although a great president overall, imprisoned thousands of people without due process or accusing them of crimes to try to win the Civil War.
7) LBJ - knowingly lied about the Gulf of Tonkin incident to escalate the Vietnam War...lot's of deaths. He is on tape saying that he doesn't think the 2nd Gulf of Tonkin incident happened, but that he can sure use it!
8) John Adams - reluctantly against his conscience passed the Alien and Sedition Act so that Irish and French immigrants could not vote for 14 years (the real reason is they tended to vote for the opposite party) and so that the government could fine or imprison anyone who criticized the government (party in power).
I have to go to work. But I can elaborate on this more later.

It is hard to compare him to many past players.
#1 Seasons have slowly added more games than in past years = more yards and stats
#2 Denard had some minor playing time as a Freshman, but then became THE main guy for his final three years -- while others like Tom Brady for instance, was just a starter for 2 years and shared some of that time with Henson.
#3 Denard is playing in an era that focuses more and more on offense, from rules that favor the offense and I wouldn't be surprised if today's offenses sees more plays per game than offenses 20 years ago as strategies and styles have changed.
#4 He also benefits from a lot of players that can get yards after the catch.
Denard is very good and we are lucky to have him. However, as much as I love him, he isn't in that top tier of the best pure passers that I have seen in my lifetime at UofM.

That score is literally like randomly guessing on every single question and somehow it was an improvement from his first attempt.
