Ace: Why can't we play Johns…

Ace: Why can't we play Johns & Teske at the same time? What am I missing?

I see advantages in a line up that has Teske (5), Johns (4), and Wagner (3). Think of the shoot blocking and rebounding that would give us. Then you'd have Livers and Brooks alternate at the 2.

Does anybody think Livers is a genuine 4? I love the guy, class act, but we've seen him for 2+ years now, exactly what part of his game says "small forward"? Isn't he a shooting guard who happens to be on the tall side. (Not a bad thing.)

There's some reason we aren't doing this. Enlighten us.

Is This OL Too Young?

LT = Cole

LG = Bredeson

C = Ruiz

RG = Onwenu

RT = Filiaga

Or does that just scream 'Rebuilding Year' ?

Delaney's Plan re: Divisional Balance

Expand to 16. He grabs Oklahoma and Kansas, puts them in the west, pushes Purdue to the east (where they belong), and blows up the Big-12 in the process. Rough parity achieved between our two divisions ... kinda sorta.

Then all the conferences get together and approve an 8-team playoff; and renegiate their broadcast rights. When the dust settles, B1G is the #1 conference in both football and hoops. Then Delaney retires, claiming world domination. Unfortunately this scenario still leaves us with Rutgers.

Loose Lips Sink Ships (OSU)

Good afternoon, gentlemen. Love the show.

(Q1) Do you remember that red-zone play from the spring game where Shane Morris pitched to a RB and then scampered off in the other direction to catch a TD pass?

(Q2) Do you think that kind of pass to Morris is something Harbaugh is trying to set up by repeatedly running those otherwise dopey sweep packages with Peppers/Morris?  Given that Shane ain't much of a lead blocker, I can't imagine what other purpose is advanced by that package.

(Q3) If so, should we not be discussing it on the air because OSU staffers regularly listen to your audio productions as part of their effors to absorb state secrets?

Respectfully submitted,

WestQuad1982

D. Smith as Fullback ? Why Not? Given this in depth analysis of Smith's pros and cons ... and given that Poggi & Hill are unknown quantity in the backfield... why not shift Smith to FB? I'm bummed we lost our two outstanding FBs from last year (Houma & Kerrage).

This assumes Issacs + Johnson + Higdon + Evans plus others can handle duties at RB.

Scholarship Count: Drake Johnson Running Track

Sorry if this was addressed elsewhere; I didn't see it on the blog. As noted, Drake is now a double-sport athlete. Will his scholarship be assigned to the track team, meaning he gains some kind of 'walk-on' status w/r/t the football program ... thus freeing up one additional slot for another recruit or grad transfer? (Similar implications for Taco & basketball.) Confession: I don't know the nuts & bolts of how these rules work, but I definitely appreciate Brian's post. Overall this blog is very informative.

since you mentioned it ...

... I would gladly trade Boston College, Pitt, or Syracuse for Rutgers. I hate having them in our conference. Just saying.

I remember that play more than

... any other during my student years. The final home game of my senior year. Wonderful memories. Thank you for posting.

Any Connection Between ...

the unusually strong performance we just saw from Rudock, and the the unusually strong praise that Coach Harbaugh heaped on him after Rutgers win?

We keep hearing coaches say how psychological the college game is, and that a positive mental attitude counts for much more than you'd otherwise think.

When I heard Harbaugh's 'bird watcher' comments last week, about how Rudock looks (at times) like an NFL quarterback ... I thought to myself no way, man, rose-colored glasses. But then Rudock goes out and does that against IU. Did anybody see that coming? Maybe there's some 'use-the-force,-Jake' talk-therapy going on. If so, I hope it continues.

Curious what others think

Coach Shaw

2014 Safety

How are we looking at safety for 2014?  Slightly concerned it will be our weak spot next season. Please tell me I'm wrong.

ACC Officials / Missed Calls ?

Just me ... or did our ACC officiating crew miss an obvious hold by the ND lineman on QWash on their first TD; the one where the pass was deflected. QWash get behind his man and has an open lane to Rees. ND dude grabs his jersey from the rear, eventually releases him because everyone in the world can see that it's holding. Everyone except the officials, that is. I'm not sure Rees gets the pass off but for that hold. I mention this grievence because: (A) there were holding calls against us (e.g., Miller) that seemed entirely non-existent, and (B) I'm tired of ND fans crying about 4th quarter pass interference call. Thoughts?
