Some on this board couldnt understand why he would leave after only one year with harbaugh. Its really pretty simple when you get right down to it.
Wasn't

one of the 5 star Georgia commits that was also considering Michigan ready to bolt to M if pruit wasnt retained?

Remember

that almni associations primary function is to raise money.  The benefits tend to be boiler plate regardless of the university (I attended 4 different universities).  If you want a tour of the big house, locker rooms etc they were giving tours prior to the spring game a couple of years ago.  They did not let you run down the player entry from the locker room to the field though.

Actually

he injured his left shoulder, ac joint, and he throws with his right.

Watched the same game you did and saw meyer go with 3-5 recievers then M countered with 7 sometimes 8 in the box. elliot simply exploited holes on the edge and made guys miss. On the read option barrett held the ball if he saw a defender out of position. The result is what happens when NFL type talented runners face good to average college defenders. Ironically this is the base offense that RR tried to install at M.
I feel your pain but this had nothing to do with schemes or toughness. osu is essentially the same team that won the NC last year. The same team that beat talented alabama and oregon teams. meyer has recruited top 5 classes for the past 3-4 years and will again this year. Michigan is coming off 8 years of disarray with harbaugh recruiting for 1 month. The defense was exposed in the indy game unfortunately and the buckeyes are much more talented than indy. The game was close in the 1st half but then reality set in. This game showed how much the coaches have done with what they had to work with. This is going to take 2-3 years until Michigan is really on par talent wise with the elite programs. Take a deep breath and calm down its going to be ok.

sounds about right.  If we pull Florida or LSU in a new years day bowl it should be a good game.  Haven't seen the gators or LSU play this year but they must be decent.  Fwiw I don't think winning or losing the bowl game will matter one bit to recruiting.  Its easy to see M is on the upswing with a loaded coaching staff.  Michigan will have a monster class this year, top 5 and possibly top 2.   Also, possible grad transfers could fill gaps as well in positions that are thin.  Next year we will be a step closer.

Durkin to Maryland

and Miles to Michigan as the DC!

Some

of the problem isnt just raw speed its also being able to read the play and react quickly to close the hole.  Another year with the same coaches will help.  Last year there were worries about slim prospects at receiver and that worked out.   Michigan, unlike the buckeyes when Meyer took over, were not loaded with talent at every position.   Its going to take a couple of years to recruit NC caliber players before M will be able to compete with the big dogs.  Its been a fun season with the coaches patching things up after 8 seasons of disarray but the buckeye game was a reminder that Michigan has a way to go yet.

The injuries

in question to Glasgow and assumed ac separation to Rudock have a wide spectrum of severity and the degree of severity will determine downtime.  I obviously have no inside info but its certainly possible that both could be back for the bowl game.

Dont agree on Franklin at all. He is an outstanding coach that was willing to come to PSU following probably the darkest college football scandel ever. He has been saddled with scholarship limitations, players allowed to transfer without sitting out a year, not to mention booing away crowds from the general ill will and negativety toward psu. In spite of all that psu has a winning record in arguably the toughest division in college football.
Thanks for posting the comment

Hate to say it but what a stupid comment by Larry Foote.  We all know what he is saying and sorry I just cannot buy an idea that categorizes certain "players" from certain areas.  I remember when Paul Hornung made a similar comment about the players that ND was getting after a blowout loss to a rival.  It appears that he wants Michigan to go after the criminal element that is more "violent" as Foote suggests.  Maybe we should require that they be in a gang for a year or two.  Meyer has caught many a team and coach with his brand of spread.  It is very difficult to defense when he has NFL talent on the field.  Remember this is essentially the same group of players that just won the NC and are clearly a better team than their performance against sparty.  Sparty just caught them on a day with a slow field and the buckeyes just had a down game. Sparty is having a cinderella season that won't be repeated again for a decade.  Michigan will get there but these types of games were inevitable in the first year or two.

Can't help

but think some of the penalty problems are the difference between the NFL and college refing coupled with some really one sided refing as in the MSU game.   Also the matchup problems exposed in the Indy game were worse today with the better talent of OSU as predicted by Brian.   But then OSU is largely the same group that beat bama and a talented Oregon team last year to win the NC.  Actually now that I am over the initial shock of this game I realize that harbaugh has done more with less here.  He is using another coaches players and winning mostly.  I am really optimistic about next season and going forward.

Dissapointing but

this game shows how much Harbaugh has done with lessor talent and thats encouraging. I am concerned about the abysmal refing this season that has been so one sided against Michigan?!  In the offseason Michigan needs to address that in the appropriate forums behind the scenes.  Per the injury to Rudock he was on the sideline without any splint or suggestion that he had a fracture so hopefully he can play in the bowl.   I hope when the day comes when Michigan has the talent that Harbaugh remembers this game and puts the pedal to the metal and runs the score up on bucky.  But today is not that day, we will have to wait another year or 2 or 3 before we can really expect the maize and blue to be a bgtn champion contender.

OT

31-27...Michigan!

LSU and SEC

teams in general are going to get frustrated with the 4 team playoff and the fact that their overly hyped teams have a tougher road  to NC. No more NC featuring  2 SEC teams due to politics.    Without Miles LSU will become another Arkansas with memories of great teams that used to be.  Miles is a great coach but the LSU faitthful is unrealistic.  Would love to see Miles come to Michigan if Durkin leaves.  Miles is a monster recruiter and will drag 5 star players in the south by the truckload to AA.

Just voted Jabrill deserves it no doubt.
Have you ever heard anyone say a flat yes or no? Dantonio said the same thing about South Carolina (he is an alum) when spurrier quit just before the Michigan game, no comment. So does that mean he is interested? It means nothing. Too much reading into the tea leaves will drive you crazy. If Maryland is interested in Durkin then other teams are interested too. M coordinators will get lots of offers. Looking at next years likely roster I think any coordinator that leaves Michigan now is crazy. Ride the Harbaugh train another year then look around makes more sense.
Lots of rumors

this is going to go on now and until all the HC spots are filled.  Its the Pat Narduzzi thing at MSU-he was on the short list of many a coach hunt then last year it happened he took the Pitt job.  With M winning and playing well all the coordinators will get offers.

As usual

a great commentary by Space making sense of it all to the lay people like me.    Love the scheme name "eagle tiger" but have no idea of what that is.   This looks like its going to shape up to be a classic game, I can't wait!

Lots of opportunities for M coaches

The issue for them though is M has just started with Harbaugh and success is in the building mode.  Better to stay and add a bgtn champioship or two and even a NC to your resume before embarking on the HC gig if you ask me.  As many a coordinator has found out, HC is different than coordinating and if your first HC gig is a flop then you are done as a HC.  Maryland and Illinois are dicey coaching stops as success at those places can  be difficult.  I would stay at M another year or two if I was Durkin but then the lure of a short term financial boost is tempting for anyone and you cant blame him if he takes it.

Funny that you mention that

I spent some time in c-bus, not by choice.  Work related thing at the university you know, anyway the women there were, hm, how can I say this nicely?  Lets just say from the shoulders down they were put together well, but from the neck up...well..you have seen the mascot right?   That comparison would be kind.

Have you

ever heard a Paul Finebaum broadcast?   I had sirius radio and on the pm drive home in the D I listened to him for about a year.  Its southern redneck schtick with billies and jimbobbies on the show expressing their semi-literate opinions of the crimson tides inevitable slide to the NC.  Its entertaining but as my mother used to say, decidedly low brow.   Meyer runs his team in a way that builds success rapidly with promises and coddling the stars.  It works but doesnt build a lasting juggernaut like saban/Bama, so for that part of Finebaums critique I agree with.  Of course Finebaum doesnt want to talk about sabans method$ for stockpiling all that talent.   Anyway I believe there is an endgame to Meyer at OSU similar to what happened in Gainesville but no doubt Meyer is a great coach and he upset Alabama last year which was worth the price of admission.

Questions

how/why was sparty so successful this past weekend against the buckeyes?  What did they do to stop the buckeyes so consistently?  Indy is a different offense, I think, in that they have a much better passing game than the buckeyes and certainly the threat of the pass was a key in opening Michigan up to the run.  This matchup appears to be the key to the game so what should we expect to see from Michigan's defense?

Well thought out article

and not the usual buckeye dribble.  The time factor of trying to get ohio kids to flip to Michigan makes sense.  Plus Harbaugh and staff's contacts are elsewhere too.  The Michigan brand has the ability to get top players anywhere.  I dont agree with the final conclusion that this is a win for OSU.  Bucky didnt have to work hard to get ohio kids to go to OSU whereas Michigan did have to put in major effort.   This is a win for M.

LSU fans

are unrealistic.  I was in the bayou for a game and they really expect to win the NC there every year.  Not to be mean here but the campus is nothing special the school is average and Miles has done a great job there.  He has a monster recruiting class for 2016 and quite frankly who could they get thats better that would coach there?  There are some great schools right now looking for the next "it" coach and LSU would have to get in line.  I think they are crazy down there, heat stroke or somethin.

yeah but

the bgtn as a whole has been down the past 5 or more years coincidentally with Michigans lackluster performances.  Both sparty and bucky have been the beneficiaries of that.  l would bet the farm that urbs isn't going to go 48-4 the next 4 years with the rise of Michigan and PSU and some other programs in the bgtn that will start to make some noise.  The point is Meyer recruits kids with promises of winning NCs and expectations of slaughtering the conference competition.  The very same situation happened in Gainesville and when Saban came and bama started to rise, Meyer's program started to crumble and its going to happen in c-bus.  Meyer was the originator of the soft schedule to pad your record and then politic to get into the NC.  Meyer's promises and past record are unsustainable in the bgtn which he percieved as a weak conference prior to Harbaugh and Franklin arriving.

Remember

shadow cannot exist without light.  The end of the msu game was a crazy fluke but then we won 2 games that probably should have been lost.  Everything balances out in the end.

My first reaction

to this post was, who is mike weber?!  But then I remembered oh yea the Michigan kid that meyer poached-the RB from Cass tech. The good news here is that urbs wins quickly but to get those players he has to promise much creating a culture that cannibalizes itself when there are bumps in the road.  Its what happened at Florida and it's going to happen in c-bus.  Be patient its surely going to be entertaining.

The entire buckeye reaction

from the fans to the players and coaches, is priceless.  They sure love to dish it out but are very sore losers now aren't they?

Scott

Paterno is a lawyer/knucklehead.  He fancies himself as a glib humorous PR guy which he is most definitely not.   I dont know what planet he was on but the penalties were 13 penalties on M for 117 yards while PSU had 3 penalties for 30 yards.  Thats pretty one sided against Michigan.

Yes

the ND comeuppance several years ago was at the hands of bama in the NC game.  That could happen again to sparty and how fitting that the sparty faithful want to take it to the next level.  Be careful what you wish for dantonio and co, as pride cometh before the fall.   Dont care about the EL knuckleheads, if M beats bucky this will be an incredible year, one to savor and remember.  Onward and upward!

What

did they negate the TD for?    And yes the refing has been noticeably biased this season with Michigan repeatedly getting the short end of the stick.

At least

it was made by architectural students.  Their parents must be so proud.

bucky had a bad game. the weather surely slowed the field down some helping sparty. But before we talk a lot of trash about the buckeyes lets at least wait until we beat them first.
A dumb

post.  Are you going to criticize Bob woodruff because he pauses and mispronounces some words?  How about making fun of veteran amputees because they walk funny. If you don't like Lee corso because he is older then fine just say so.

Picks for the day

M 31-PSU 16.    OSU 38-sparty 20.   Other winners today: LSU over Ole miss, USC over Oregon, NW over wisky, OK state over Baylor, Oklahoma wins big over TCU, and just for fun Minny over Illinois for the battle of bowl eligibility.

It only makes sense

that when a team is exposed having a major weakness that the opposition puts in some plays to exploit that weakness.  Surely the buckeyes are working on that, although they have their attention elsewhere right now with sparty on tap this weekend.  But I wouldnt be surprised to see some stretch plays from PSU.  The question is can they execute them effectively?  We will see.  Hopefully M can regroup and win their 9th game of the season tomorrow.

LB

play was lacking I think and they were getting beat consistently on the edge.  Indiana is clearly a nightmare for defenses with the up tempo/change the play at the line of scrimmage with an experienced NFL caliber QB running the offense.  It seemed that the D strategy was stop the pass with safties dropping back and then indy called a lot of running plays.   The D didnt play great but still won the game in the end.  Hopefully they can regroup for the next 2 games that will be better matchups for M.

its pretty obvious

the further we get into the Harbaugh era that Hoke was not a good coach.  I remember Rawls and not only did he not play well he looked really bad at times.  It was obvious that the OL was a big part of the problem but predictabiltiy was a problem, lack of development etc etc.  Good for Rawls that he did not give up and that he has turned this around and is making a career in the NFL.

NBC

has something right though and thats the fact that sparty was a pretender and was never going to make any noise at the NC playoff level.  They had their run while Michigan was down but its going end with the graduation of Connor Cook.

Actually

Dantonio was putting the index finger up because he thought there was one more second left on the clock and after watching the replay I think he was right about that.  Howeva, its good to see karma work its way around to sparty.  Pride cometh before the fall!   So far this season the most gratifying game to watch was that one.

Are you

sure the epipen isnt for reactions to blocked punts or final play goal line stands?

Some

interesting common opponent games today including PSU-NW and OSU-Minny.  Of course the LSU-bama game should knock one of those teams out of NC consideration.  Not getting to AA today dang it, sort of working today, so no adult beverages for me, but I do have time to catch most of the game later hopefully.

SF

at 2-6 is slightly better than the Lions.  The Lions might have a tougher schedule but thats debateable of course.  One thing though is people always judge coaching excellence based on how a team does when the coach arrives.  But this might be even more telling where a coach leaves a team and an existing assistant steps up to coach the same team and the results are not good.   With all the opportunities for good coaches out there in college and the pros I believe the Michigan fanbase should thank their lucky stars that Harbaugh and Co. are at Michigan.

But think about this

Speight is the backup and these next 2 games are winnable with a backup.  What happens if Rudock gets hurt playing against Rutgers and is out for the season?  You don't have a decent QB to put in the game.  They need to give Speight some game experience and the next 2 games are perfect to do that whatever happens.  Of course the D has to play better than they did on Saturday.

GE

has a masters from NW so he probably hates Michigan.  Hes 62 and wrote some books about the meaning of life and about whether religion matters now.  Typical writer looking for provocative material to draw attention to himself.  He indicts his own article with the sentence regarding Harbaugh skedaddling implying Harbaugh left SF of his own accord which is nonsense.  Harbaugh had one more year on his contract I believe and it was no secret the 32 year old owner and also the general manager were not a fans of Harbaugh and it appears he was more or less told he could leave or else he would be removed.   Much to Michigan fans delight he left SF.  Now there are those that want to say the demise of 49er football is due to Harbaugh.  The NYTs needs to find better, more imaginitive and maybe younger writers.

Speaking of letdowns

this week all the talk of Michigan having a letdown in their next game but actually I believe sparty might be ripe for an upset.  They know they didnt deserve to win and they are facing the #1 passing offense in the bgtn.

Someone must have said this already but yes Hoke wont have punted because M would have been 30 points behind at that point so he would have thrown a hail mary to try to make the score look better.
Now that I have seen the final play over a 100 times

there was a noncall that could have changed the game, a holding on #24 after the punt was fumbled and knocked to the MSU player.  The game would have expired and Michigan won if the MSU player had been tackled just before he went over the goal line, as the sparty blocking #24 had is arms extended and was holding.  Granted it would have been a marginal call in Michigan's favor but then the entire game there were marginal calls made spartys way.  Thats how I saw it but it doesn't matter its time to move on.  Michigan needs to concentrate on running the table now, which is very doable.
