I'm an urban planner logging…

I'm an urban planner logging in for the first time in a long, long time to say I applaud the development-related considerations in this post (and the mayoral race). I probably side with Brian on this one, personally. I'm not in Ann Arbor, but will watch how this continues to play out from afar.

Yeah Knights!

Yeah Knights!

For the UConn game I used the

For the UConn game I used the MGoBlue2Go app that had streaming audio. Not sure if that is the norm or not since it was the first time trying.

I'm in New Mexico but

I'm in New Mexico but drinking imported Founder's Dirty Bastard.

Also, it is cloudy and below 60 degrees. Snow is starting to fall in the mountains to the north. Life is good.

I often say Wisco. Yeah.

I often say Wisco. Yeah.

New Belgium Abbey Ale

New Belgium Abbey Ale probably followed by Ska Brewing's Modus Hoperandi.

I've enjoyed Portlandia quite

I've enjoyed Portlandia quite a bit, but also found it somewhat hit or miss with a few of its sketches. It's definitely a certain kind of humor. I haven't seen any of Season 3 yet unfortunately.

Uinta Hop Notch IPA, which

Uinta Hop Notch IPA, which I'll probably follow up with a Santa Fe Happy Camper IPA while watching something on Netflix. I just finished up Season 4 of Breaking Bad and need to find something else for a little while.

I grew up a Michgan sports

I grew up a Michgan sports fan, and was looking at architecture progams, but I only ended up applying to Calvin (dad and grandparents alma mater) and the Illinois Institute of Technology. I had started the Michigan application, and honestly I can't remember why I didn't finish and submit it. I was not a very diligent student my last year and half of high school, and looking back, my grades and test scores probably weren't good enough for Michigan.

Anyway, I ended up at Calvin and had an awesome 4 years there, along the way deciding architecture wasn't exactly what I was looking for anyway. Decided to attend grad school and actually finished the Michigan application that time around choosing Ann Arbor over New Brunswick, NJ and Rutgers for urban and regional planning.

One crisp Benjamin in each

One crisp Benjamin in each one.

They are, but already got rid

They are, but already got rid of the Native American imagery. Now they just use a big red M and still use the nickname without the connection. Similar to the idea of "Warriors" as a mascot, if they disassociate the name from the imagery it may become less objectionable.

You said Lenny, and this

You said Lenny, and this whole thing is confusing as hell, so

Chunkums, BiSB, LSA, and Herm

Chunkums, BiSB, LSA, and Herm are all great. There are so, so many others too. I love remembering all the old ones mentioned here from when I was a reader (and not yet a poster) that may not post as often or at all anymore. Times change, and users come and go, but the MGoBoard holds fast.

I paid $19.99 a year or two

I paid $19.99 a year or two ago...

Yeah, I think this was

Yeah, I think this was discussed in a thread yesterday. Illicth could buy the Lions because the Tigers and Red Wings are in the same market, but Gilbert could not because of his ownership of the Cleveland Cavaliers being Browns territory.

I read this really fast, and

I read this really fast, and thought you said to have a joyless New Year... made me double take but I'm glad you don't hate the world. Merry Christmas everybody!

I had a teacher in high

I had a teacher in high school who had dyslexia. He would always spell words wrong when writing them up on the board in class, but he was very intelligent and would tell us that spelling isn't the most important thing in life. He taught functions, stats, and trig as well as physics.

Does the Big Ten or Big XII

Does the Big Ten or Big XII up with Missouri? MO is missing from your lists...

LEGO (YES!) and Chromebook.

LEGO (YES!) and Chromebook. Looks like Google knows I'm in the market for a new laptop/internet device and wants to sell me on their own product.

Yes.  Those things are

Yes.

Those things are things that can be addressed.

I'll be there.

GUBNA!

Oskar Blues Gubna Imperial IPA to start. We'll see where the night takes me, but what a great victory today!

petition

Somebody should start one of those MSA UPetitions or something at Change.org.  Would DB listen to a few thousand signatures?

Party!

maybe

we can start a tradition of Dee-boh-ing after each TD...

No Hopslam yet

But as soon as I make my next paycheck for sure.  Two Hearted is one of my go to beers, so Hopslam and that are probably my top 2 for Bells (I'm an IPA guy).  After that I'm not really sure.  Oberon, Best Brown, Oarsman, Double Cream Stout, and the Java Stout (although not as good as a few others I've had) are pretty solid.  The only one I really have had a truly bad experience with is the Cherry Stout - maybe this year I'll have to give it another try.

Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo is not a JC, it's a small liberal arts college and is NCAA D3 for athletics.  The JC down there is Kalamzoo Valley CC and has no football program.

Purdue does this chant

Purdue does this chant for every single first down they get too.

[insert joke about how few first downs they get]

Season Perhaps?

Season Perhaps?

.

.

yes.

Absolutely

Wants to be an engineer post-football too.

Also noticed that Posada and Bellomy picked math as their class subject.

Its always a plus too when the kid's favorite football player growing up went to Michigan (Bellomy and Rawls).

You down with OPP

Ondre "Pee-Wee" Pipkins, yeah you know me.  Excellent pick-up by Hoke and company, winning the battles in the trenches.

Lounge

It has a Comfort Inn factor to it.

Article says

Articles says he stayed away from school and football last year waiting to see if he might get cleared for D-1 competition or if junior college was necessary.

It will definitely be interesting to see how that affects his play this fall though.  Good luck to him.

Within a month

Within a month! It feels so close, yet so far away.  I keep looking up the hype videos to keep myself sane.

Police Chase

The police chase went through there between 131 and Plainfield.  He crossed the median and was going the wrong way until leaving his vehicle and running into the neighborhood where the hostage situation is now.

At a downtown bar earlier

I was just around the corner from Division and Fulton at Hopcat with a friend when the suspect went through there, although I didn't know he was that close at the time.  Tons of sirens and the State Police helicopter flew by overhead.

Keeping those involved in my thoughts.  I hope this gets resolved soon.  A bad day for the city.

Went Out

Mine went out and came back on right away by 5th and William. If it went out again I wouldn't know because I went up to north campus.

Ann Arbor Legends

They are legends of Ann Arbor, and there could be some corporate sponsership deal to further benefit the athletic department...

The Picture

I actually like the picture, regardless of what it looks like.  I think knowing what it is for Michigan + what you point out here, there is a power to it.  Those are very powerful images.

I don't actually think the image should be replaced, but was thinking more about "This is Michigan" seemingly pulled straight from Hoke's introductory press conference.

I can't wait until the season starts!

This is Michigan

"This is Michigan, for God's sakes!"

Maybe the boat illusion could be replaced by Brady Hoke pointing us to victory...

The Northeast

The Northeast generally would include New York and New Jersey.  Maybe even Pennsylvania if you want to go that far.  This leaves us with only 4 schools (Michigan, Alabama, Miami, and Maryland).

However, maybe the coach was referring to the Atlantic Northeast which is only New England + part of Canada and only eliminates UConn and BC from that list of schools.

Either way, best of luck to the young man and I hope he goes Blue!

Foil

Looks like crumpled aluminum foil to me.

Uplsope

A lot of posters have mentioned Oskar Blues, and I saw New Belgium.  Another newer brewery in Boulder, Upslope, is exclusively canning their brews.  I was out there for spring break and they have a pretty good IPA.

They can for the previously mentioned reasons of UV light blocking power and ease of carrying around outdoors, but also because aluminum is way easier to recycle than bottles are.

lined cans

Yeah, cans nowadays should have a liner to prevent contact with the aluminum, but I guess that leaves you wondering about cancer from BPA.

Hippie Hash

Hippie Hash is tops for me I think, but NYPD, BTB and a bunch of other places compete.  At least Ann Arbor has options so nothing gets old - if thats possible when drunk.

Also, BYU wasn't disqualified from the drunk food list.  They have ice cream in Provo.

Conor O'Neills

Been making the rounds between my house on 5th, Conor O'Neills, and class on north campus all day long.

Guinness and Smithwick's of course, with some Bell's Two Hearted while chilling on the porch this afternoon.

Calvin Christian Representing

I too attended Calvin Christian, although many years later (class of 2006).  I did stats for our basketball team throughout high school and always got mini sports history lessons from the announcer or scoreboard guys.  Even though I don't have any vivid memories of the Fab 5 years of my youth, I got to know about Voskuil and am proud CCHS could hang with the big boys as an important role player.
