With the new staff I could see us doing the impossible and winning the B1G right off the bat with Hoke. He brings the fire back and reminds the team that they are on their way to becoming a very tough D in addition to what should be a very tough O to defend. Look how many PPG we avg.ed the past 2 years, and then look at that horribly horribly bad PPG and YPG that our D gave up.
We will be a tough team to beat right out of the gate with Hoke.
Meaning not wanting to get beat or let games get out of hand. They learned what they don't want to go thru or feel again when they lost or let games get out of hand. Not going to a no huddle all game helps give an extra minute or more to the D to get focused and not run out of gas. Barwis is a great trainer but ya have that human fatigue factor no matter how well trained you are.
Definitely Barwis and bringing a quick offense in were by far the best. But in the end it brought us closer to being a dominant offense in great shape and with great training determination (Barwis), ADDED TO A GREAT DEFENSIVE MINDED COACH. The RR era wasn't all for naught- all our guys have to do is go into that mindset on D where they gave up the lead and many times once we did we couldnt finish stringer. I honestly am looking for a drastic improvement on D and if it all plays out strong this might be a Shock the World scenario. couldnt have asked for a better tradition but toughness minded head coach and D staff.
I think they could shock the world if they can stay healthy. where was the limit on the Fab 5??? With the right mindset on D we are going to be a tough team to beat!
Both on and off the field that separates Michigan from the rest. That's why we are the leaders and best. Even with the practice-gate fiasco, I believe we are still 130+ years and going of Michigan football with NO Major violations.
No team can keep every player under watch 24/7, but why settle for a half-hearted to be Blue recruit with issues like his off the field when we can get an all in to the team/rules/atmosphere of excellence that we strive for at Michigan???
Look at our evil nemesis as an example: Ohio won a Natl title with Clarett but it's not that team beating an unbeatable Miami for the title that we now remember. It's the off the field Clarett we remember and the questionable win at all costs (cheating the rules or not) atmosphere that the whole world outside of Ohio fans remember Tressel's teams for.
Is that what we want at Michigan??? Never settle for the half-hearted troubled kids if you can get those that are all in for excellence. Forgiveness is huge, we all need to do that, but why lower standards to give "excellence get out of jail free cards" to get a "5 star". The high stars don't always mean they are worth the baggage they bring.
Noone is winning any arguments or points. we have an awesome class going and this type of thing happens 7 months+ away from signing day. Michigan will regain its tradition, toughness on D, and I see lots of Big 10 championships in our future. Who cares about one guy leaving, our defense has many needs but they will all be filled come the season.
Bo wasn't the first choice either but he was the right man for the job. A Mr. Joe Paterno actually was contacted first and turned the job down before heading to Penn State. Bo wasn't even 2nd or 3rd as I recall it being said, but he sure was the right man for the job- just like Hoke. Can't stop a driven coach with their focus and heart in the right place. I am calling it now and don't care about the naysayers: this is going to be a big year for Michigan. Everything points to it and ya can't stop determination easily. The Maize and Blue are back and we're coming back to the top very soon.
Hoke and Mattison are bringing the hope of a great team and great seasons back to Michigan. The last time Michigan got a coach that brought hope and tradition back to the forefront of Michigan football, he had a winning record against every team in the Big Ten and brought the Big10 titles back to AA- went by the name of Bo. But Hoke and Mattison bring something else to the table that Bo never had- National Championship coaching experience! Both Hoke and Mattison bring that as assistants on Natl. Champ teams and they bring the hope, experience and tradition of Michigan excellence too! Go Blue!
Not knowing Michigan's tradition and not having the kahunas to say" Michigan sells itself" because of the tradition and tough man-ball is what RR did. In fact he did just the opposite- he mumbled about "....need time to adjust to the system" and "...the Michigan name no longer sells the top tier recruits...". He kept Hayes and he is going after the build/style of RB as the Michigan greats- Wheatley, Biakabatuka, etc. The big yet fast RB that can either knock you on your ass or outrun you to the endzone.
And don't ever bring up the" cupboard was bare" stuff when RR took over. Did he talk Mallett, Arrington or Manningham into staying??? No.
And for those that claimed that Michigan tradition is dead and gone and that Michigan doesn't sell itself, maybe you've forgotten what got us more wins than any other 1-A team- tough, hard nosed, fundamentally sound defense more than anything. Just look back at our National Championships- look those stats up: points/game allowed, rushing yards/game, etc.

But when a man doesn't put an emphasis on defense or doesn't go to a huddle on offense when the D is gassed (especially when our offense would rattle off consecutive 3 and outs), does he really understand the defense or its importance on the field?
Hoke knows what Michigan tradition is, obviously understands the need for a tough, fundamentally sound defense run by a good DC, and is letting Michigan tradition and its football legacy help to bring in recruits. Bo got it and Hoke's got it too. The kind of coach that makes recruits want to become part of that history and not just part of a flashy offense with a piss poor defense on the other side of the ball.
I can't wait for this season to start- the re-emergence of Michigan tradition.

It's a slippery slope- once you break a few minor rules it becomes that much easier and commonplace to break more and bigger rules. It's the principle of it but the NCAA needs to quit looking at how much money a fanbase like tOSU or USC can bring them and look at how many other honest programs they are screwing over in many ways by letting those violators break rules.
If you are truly a Michigan fan and not an OSU fan posting here, just think of how many recruits Michigan lost out on because of all the "not that big a deal freebies". How many players were teetering towards UM and went tOSU because of those perks they heard other players got- that they wouldn't have gotten or nearly to the level they ended up getting at tSIO?
It's a rule to give all schools an equal recruiting chance, plain and simple.
Just ask TP, etc. Especially when the athletes were not born into a money family. The perks are given for a reason- to persuade them to go to the beneficiary's school of choice.
For a man that is considered an offensive genius (RR), you'd think at some point a genius would realize you can't run a no huddle all game and except the defense to be fresh in the 2nd half. Even with Barwis conditioning them before games, you still get gassed when the offense is pulling 3 and outs, sometimes several possessions in a row. He never understood the rivalries, the need for hogs in the trenches in the Big Ten, or the need for a solid D (without a 3-3-5) in the Big Ten- put it all together and we never should have hired him. But it led to what we have now so I'm hopeful and happy that the bleeding was stopped.
George and Smith I hated when they played us because they were good, but respected as players and for what they said about the booster involvement when they responded to the Clarrett allegations on ESPN I believe it was. They said that the "hundred dollar handshakes" as they were called, and other booster influence absolutely went on while they were at OSU. But they chose not to take the money or get involved and they let it be known to other players/friends that they did NOT want to know about it or be involved in it in any way. A teacher at OSU was fired either shortly before or shortly after the Clarrett allegations because she spoke of preferential treatment of players in classes and the laughable academic standards or lack there of held for student athletes (particularly football players). Chris Spielman spoke of the need for players to not accept anything from boosters or to sell anything on Ohio radio stations. All of the aforementioned OSU players played years before Tressel became coach. And you want more proof? I could care less what you think of what I saw or heard while at OSU, but if proof to the press is what you want take a look back - the proof has been there all along, just wasnt given over with smoking gun written testimonies of players, recordings to the school paper and media in detail, or emails from/to the coach. Wake up fellas- any athlete or anyone that wasnt in absolute denial of what was going on knows it has happened for years in Columbus.
The proof regarding OSU has just never been given over with federal investigations/interviews from players detailing things/smoking gun emails like it has been in the past many months. But I assure you it went on before I went there, while I went there, and after Tressel took over. Don't be sucked into the OSU denial never never land. The truth is finally being exposed on OSU just like it was with us and with USC- just a lot bigger rabbit hole and a lot more twisted for OSU. Tressel did not start the money or cars. I saw it firsthand in the early 90s before Tressel ever took over. Lived in the same dorm as some high profile football players and even on the same floor. Saw some athletes driving cars with the dealer papers on the window still and the one that was asked about it while I was there did not want to talk about it and stopped talking to my roommate about it. Saw at least one instance of the "hundred dollar handshakes" taking place. Don't be as ignorant as the OSU nation- most or even all of this has gone on for years before Tressel ever took over. OSU players selling memorabilia was going to be exposed when the Edward Rife case became public knowledge and they knew it. Coincidentally OSU "perfectly timed" their own internal investigation of Tressel's emails and that's how it was exposed to the administration......yeah right. To promote both academic and athletic integrity and to help avoid violations from occurring every university that I know of is able and allowed to monitor any and all university originated emails. So OSU just happened to look into Tressel's e-mails prior to the truth of tatgate becoming public knowledge. What a coincidence. But what were the internal investigators doing for years before Tressel ever took over as coach. Why else would Gene Smith, Gee, and the rest of the administration still defend Tressel to this day- simple- they knew about tatgate long before those now infamous Tressel emails and chose to do nothing. But once they knew the case was going to become public knowledge they chose to let Tressel take the fall. Whether there was actually an agreement between them and Tressel that he would be the fall guy and in return they would have his back on it all who knows. But having seen firsthand or heard/overheard conversations going on about the cars athletes drove and the "hundred dollar handshakes" going on, I do NOT believe for a minute that this was never spoken of to OSU administration. I am well aware that it is the athletes' faults that they broke the rules, but for OSU to claim that they never ever had prior knowledge of this stuff going on is an absolute joke. The athletes have the "Vegas" type brotherhood that what happens for athletes in Columbus stays in Columbus, but sooner or later the truth gets exposed- it always does in one way or another. Don't be ignorant Maize and Blue blooded- OSU chose and has chosen to blatantly ignore the perks athletes get in Columbus long before Tressel took over. I know it probably goes on at every major football program, but at least Michigan's administration didn't turn the blame on Bo or Lloyd- RR I am glad is gone so I won't speak well of him in regards to Michigan football. UM took the situation itself and penalized itself above and beyond what the NCAA would later deem was enough. Sou's denial/pride/arrogance/administrative negligence will hopefully be its undoing on it all now. Why else would a major university back a football coach when their football program pays for 75% of the bills? They knew about it all and I hope somehow someway that gets proven to the NCAA and that the big money OSU alumni/booster machine can't keep it quiet.

OSU has access to any and all e-mail addresses that their staff use, including the coaches. Don't be as ignorant as OSU chooses to be- they were aware of the allegations of cars and money before Tressel ever took over. They just chose to ignore the truth. I prefer an OSU that is undefeated and highly touted when we beat them at the end of the year. I don't think Tressel kept it all to himself and I find it hilarious that OSU is able and supposedly willing to monitor staff/administration e-mails to keep up their irrational idea of academic integrity, yet does anyone remember how OSU supposedly found out about the e-mails? They did an internal investigation and read his e-mails that were able to be monitored and were probably supposed to be monitored to promote integrity. It's a slippery slope- once you break a few minor rules it becomes that much easier and commonplace to break more and bigger rules. It's the principle of it but the NCAA needs to quit looking at how much money a fanbase like tOSU or USC can bring them and look at how many other honest programs they are screwing over in many ways by letting those violators break rules.
If you are truly a Michigan fan and not an OSU fan posting here, just think of how many recruits Michigan lost out on because of all the "not that big a deal freebies". How many players were teetering towards UM and went tOSU because of those perks they heard other players got- that they wouldn't have gotten or nearly to the level they ended up getting at tSIO?
It's a rule to give all schools an equal recruiting chance, plain and simple.
Just ask TP, etc. Especially when the athletes were not born into a money family. The perks are given for a reason- to persuade them to go to the beneficiary's school of choice.
For a man that is considered an offensive genius (RR), you'd think at some point a genius would realize you can't run a no huddle all game and except the defense to be fresh in the 2nd half. Even with Barwis conditioning them before games, you still get gassed when the offense is pulling 3 and outs, sometimes several possessions in a row. He never understood the rivalries, the need for hogs in the trenches in the Big Ten, or the need for a solid D (without a 3-3-5) in the Big Ten- put it all together and we never should have hired him. But it led to what we have now so I'm hopeful and happy that the bleeding was stopped.
George and Smith I hated when they played us because they were good, but respected as players and for what they said about the booster involvement when they responded to the Clarrett allegations on ESPN I believe it was. They said that the "hundred dollar handshakes" as they were called, and other booster influence absolutely went on while they were at OSU. But they chose not to take the money or get involved and they let it be known to other players/friends that they did NOT want to know about it or be involved in it in any way. A teacher at OSU was fired either shortly before or shortly after the Clarrett allegations because she spoke of preferential treatment of players in classes and the laughable academic standards or lack there of held for student athletes (particularly football players). Chris Spielman spoke of the need for players to not accept anything from boosters or to sell anything on Ohio radio stations. All of the aforementioned OSU players played years before Tressel became coach. And you want more proof? I could care less what you think of what I saw or heard while at OSU, but if proof to the press is what you want take a look back - the proof has been there all along, just wasnt given over with smoking gun written testimonies of players, recordings to the school paper and media in detail, or emails from/to the coach. Wake up fellas- any athlete or anyone that wasnt in absolute denial of what was going on knows it has happened for years in Columbus.
The proof regarding OSU has just never been given over with federal investigations/interviews from players detailing things/smoking gun emails like it has been in the past many months. But I assure you it went on before I went there, while I went there, and after Tressel took over. Look it up man, it was always just blown off as a disgruntled player and a teacher making stuff up because they were let go or did something wrong (Clarrett and the teacher whose name escapes me right now). OSU's administration had to have been aware when a Heisman trophy winner (George), probably the best LB to ever play for them (Spielman) and another of their all time great RBs (Smith) flat out admitted they were offered money, etc while they went there but chose to not accept it. Don't be sucked into the OSU denial never never land. The truth is finally being exposed on OSU just like it was with us and with USC- just a lot bigger rabbit hole and a lot more twisted for OSU. The brotherhood spoken of is nothing more than not to speak of any wrong doing by players-boosters or preferential treatment because it would hurt the team and the school.
