Go Cubs!

I'm not going to read…

I'm not going to read through the comments because I've already read probably 500 comments from people on why they hate Warde. My problem with most of them is the tenor. They veer into personal attacks, sound truly hateful, and many are attacks on his weight. It's one thing to say you didn't like how he handled the Mel Pearson situation, and give rational reasons why. But constantly digging at him and his appearance and making him seem like an ineffectual oaf is beneath us. At least I thought it was, but it's such a regular occurrence now that maybe I've been wrong about this fanbase.

We had a Crosstrek for several years. I thought it was a good enough car. Not fun to drive at all, but reliable and safe. My daughter was in an accident in it, she was t-boned. The insurance company deemed it totaled. No one was seriously injured, so I can vouch for its safety.

We have a 2018 Audi SQ5. It's great in every way except gas consumption. We've driven it cross country (with our cats in the back seat, which was.....interesting), in the snow in Chicago, and I've hauled many a pieces of furniture in it. It's very comfortable. The downside is not great mileage and it takes super gas, which gets expensive. We've thought about selling it for that reason (and it's now out of warranty and repairs on Audis are expensive). Maybe thinking about a VW Taos.

Michigan is where I want to be, too. I think I'm too old to go back to school.

The Warde apology…

The Warde apology/appreciation thread is a lousy one. It's just giving people more opportunity to shit on Warde. Do we really need more of that?

Excellent. May he have much…

Excellent. May he have much success and be free of the torch and pitchfork crowd should that success not come fast enough for their liking.

I can be ok with Duke…

I can be ok with Duke winning anything because the husband of a friend is a doc at the children’s hospital there and he does important work so there’s my justification.

I feel for her. She's in an untenable position -- a global public figure, hounded by the media anyway, which can't be easy, then she gets cancer and has to somehow manage the hounds while also dealing with three young kids, which she wants to do in private. Not to mention the shock of learning you have cancer at age 42. I hope she has a complete recovery.

I've never put a filter on a…

I've never put a filter on a photo or photoshopped a photo to be a better version of myself, or anyone in my family. That's such a weird notion, but I'm also not of that generation so.....I don't take many photos of myself to begin with. I do take photos of my cats, however.

Just last year, Fairleigh…

Just last year, Fairleigh Dickinson beat #1 seed Purdue and Princeton beat #2 seed Arizona. Exciting stuff! There was a Princeton player who had his 15 minutes of fame in that game and the next against Missouri, in which he scored 5 3's. He and my daughter graduated the same year from Evanston Township HS (where, as a freshman, he also made the Sports Center #1 play of the week with a full court shot that won a game). He probably won't go farther than college ball but it's stories like his and Princeton's that make the tournament so great.

It’s not the word ‘failure.’ It’s the addition of Fab and the typeface and size of the type. Those choices were meant to be sensationalist. If they had said, “The Juwan years were ultimately a failure,”that  would’ve been true and not sensational.

This is sensational…

This is sensational journalism. The Daily should know -- and do -- better.

There's a trailer park in Malibu with multi-million dollar trailers because.....Malibu. The park is on a bluff so the views are spectacular. Over the years many celebs have lived there. Here are current listings.

I'm baffled by people who…

I'm baffled by people who claim to know what goes on behind the scenes. This is why I don't jump on any Warde bandwagon, either pro or con. Because I really have no idea what goes on behind the scenes, and my guess is the vast majority here don't know either. There has been so much speculation about Warde, and the threads with the piling on and personal attacks are unreadable and border on obsessive.

Chicagoans may remember this…

Chicagoans may remember this: there's a radio station in Chicago, WXRT, that is the de facto coolest station in the city. Back in the early 90's, they hired an advertising agency to do a campaign for them. The head writer was a loathsome character (a friend of an advertising colleague of mine, who is now a big time Hollywood screen writer) who thought he was the coolest by coming up with the tagline, "WXRT: Move Someplace Cooler." Well, I about had a conniption fit. If you really are the coolest, you don't have to tell people, you can just ride the unspoken wave of your unparalleled coolness. By telling people that you're the coolest, you've just become uncool.

I have a dear friend whose brother broke his leg and he died from a resulting blood clot two weeks later. It was so unexpected and tragic. My friend still hasn't gotten over it and it was 8 or 9 years ago. Just an awful freak thing.

Glad it turned out in your favor. Pretty terrifying stuff. I'm reading this the day before I go have an MRI on my ankle, 8 weeks after spraining it.

Vinegar chips are good when you need to cut the richness of something, like a grilled cheese. Dill pickle potato chips are also excellent.

I'm not a Justin Fields fan but I honestly felt bad for the guy. The Bears are terrible.

I was just driving down Milwaukee in Wicker Park and it's nuts. I forgot how stupid people get when they're wearing green.

This is starting to get irrational. Not starting, is. Is irrational. Scruggs is a grown man.

My husband went to a small college in Wisconsin and he remembers driving up to visit and there were literally kegs flowing in the quad. That pretty much sums up his undergraduate years.

Why is his performance such…

Why is his performance such a focus (the main focus for many) anyway? And it's not even just his performance. People attack him personally all the time here. It's as ugly and as low class as anything I've read on RCMB.

So everyone wanted Howard…

So everyone wanted Howard fired, Warde does it at the appropriate time (the day after the season ends) but instead of acknowledging what he's done right, we should vilify him for every single thing he's ever done wrong? Makes sense.

With the exception of Sports…

With the exception of Sports Illustrated.

There’s something bigger…

There’s something bigger than the basketball culture and that’s Michigan’s culture. We’re not the kind of school that fires coaches mid-season for performance reasons. It’s unseemly in the Michigan sphere. Bo’s firing of Frieder wasn’t performance based; Frieder was at that point employed by someone else. So firing Howard mid-season would’ve appeased the rabid fans and probably no one else. Likely not the players, whose season wouldn’t have been salvaged.

Based on what? Warde’s…

Based on what? Warde’s public comments? What’s he going to say publicly while the season is ongoing? “Juwan is terrible and make no mistake, he will be fired once the season ends.”?

My take is that Warde waited…

My take is that Warde waited until the end of the season in deference to a well-loved former player who loves his alma mater and who had a serious heart procedure prior to the season that required months of recovery. I think there’s a certain amount of humanity that is required in that situation. If it meant a lost season, then so be it. If there was an opportunity to fire Juwan in season, it was last season, after the Wisconsin game. But he was given a second chance. If you want to debate a decision, it should be that one, not why he wasn’t let go in the middle of this season.

Why assume that he didn’t?…

Why assume that he didn’t? You have zero evidence of that.

I hope all the people who…

I hope all the people who claim Warde does nothing will take a seat now. The Warde bashing got really tiresome and now that he’s done the thing everyone wanted, it’s time to stop assuming you can do his job better than him and just let him do his job.

Yeah, this is pretty much…

Yeah, this is pretty much standard business practice. The wide world of consultants. It also protects companies from legal action (not saying this is the case here, but people can be litigious when they get fired, so an impartial opinion can counter perceived bias).

Apparently, in the UK in the early 2010's, someone submitted a petition to the government to make the definition of pie as something that has "a pastry base, filling, and most importantly, a lid." They call the top crust a lid. The petition only got 6 signatures and needed 10,000 to be considered so obviously, not a top priority in the UK.

I love key lime pie, with a graham cracker crust and whipped cream, not meringue.

That’s a good question. I…

That’s a good question. I may do some research on that. Chicken pot pie sometimes doesn’t have a bottom crust but it’s still called a pie. But an apple pie without a bottom crust could be called a crumble. And then there are tarts, which have bottom crusts, sometimes top crusts, and a filling but it’s the tart mold or tin that defines it as a tart and not a pie.

I’m an avid pie maker…

I’m an avid pie maker. Favorites are apple and peach. As for savory pies, it’s a toss up between chicken pot pie and shepherd’s pie.

If it's a Friday game, there's a good chance one of my son's best friends will be the starting pitcher for Maryland. So please give Kenny a shout out (and then proceed to root for Michigan to win)!

I don't think it matters in this context. Anyone who contributes to the game day experience is working towards that end. I'm not necessarily addressing the issue of getting paid or not, just that everyone from the people who prepare the meals at the stadium to the players to the ushers to the band members all contribute to the fan (consumer) experience. If there is payment, you'd pay some more and others less based on the estimated value of their contribution (like any other workplace). But they all contribute to the product that's being sold.

They should get a cut. Their work contributes to the unique experience of going to a Michigan football game. Take the band away, and it’s not the same Game Day experience.
