Practical me: a VW Taos. I like how Volkswagens drive and I need more space than a GTI would provide.

Fun me that doesn't care about practicality: a GTI.

We have an electric Mini which, aside from the media interface, is great. Perfect city car for us.

I'm old but they were a bit before my time. Nevertheless my mother was super young (20 when she got married) and she listened to everything I would've listened to if I was a teenager then. I still have her Iron Butterfly In a Gadda Vida album. She was into Grand Funk, and I liked them when I was in high school.

Ok, I'm taking back my comment about Supertramp and REO being the same band. I listened to Supertramp a lot back then (and went back and listened to Crime of the Century just now). I think my initial reaction was that these bands, along with Foreigner, Styx, Kansas, Boston, and then some smaller bands like Foghat, all got played together and crossed over each other all the time, at least where I lived. They were all kind of glommed together. Supertramp is more in line with ELP and Yes and has vestiges of Jethro Tull. They sound dated, though. They're of a very certain time and sound like it. I feel the same way about The Who, my favorite band in high school. I listen now and their music doesn't sound nearly as transformative as it was for me at the time.

Gefilte fish  -- it's like they trick you into thinking they're matzoh balls. Well, I'm not going to fall for it!

Thank you for articulating what I think and feel every day. I want peace for the region and for everyone to be able to live in safety without the worry of war, violence, rockets, suicide bombers, poverty, or hunger.

We were comparing it to the…

We were comparing it to the Baseball HOF. There are people who were clearly in the top (Babe Ruth, Cy Young, Lou Gehrig, etc...) but then there are players like Ron Santo who really didn't differentiate themselves in the same way, and so the criteria there is murky. Bands like The Stones are obvious, but then bands like Kansas, Foreigner, and ELP were good but not in the same stratosphere as The Stones. It's so subjective. At least baseball players have stats you can point to.

I don't think the criteria…

I don't think the criteria to get into the HOF is only about a band's music (and I'm not saying I either agree or disagree with their criteria). It's more about what place they had in Rock n Roll history. So when I say the bands are the same, I don't mean musically. I think about their vibe and genre, who was their audience, when did they play, how popular were they, how did they distinguish themselves in the era they played. I think Three Dog Night and Blood, Sweat, and Tears are in the same boat.  Kansas and Foreigner are the same deal. They don't have the same sound at all but they occupied a similar place in R n R history. The B52's are different - I can't think of a comparable band. Maybe The Talking Heads?

I would probably take out…

I would probably take out Harry Nilsson and Steve Winwood solo (just not big enough bodies of work), If Foreigner made it in so should Kansas. I'm also lukewarm on REO and Supertramp. They're essentially the same band from opposite sides of the pond. Three Dog Night, Blood, Sweat, & Tears, Grand Funk, and America are maybe's for me. I like them all but I don't know how big their catalogues are, especially Blood, Sweat, & Tears and Grand Funk. How many popular albums did they have? Yes to B 52's. They were groundbreaking. Gerry Rafferty no (just didn't break through enough). I abstaining on Marshall Tucker since I don't know enough about what they did in entirety.

"Any of us could've made this hire." Is it possible to have hubris and ignorance at the same time?

My son's team played a team called the Dirtbags in travel ball. There's also the Rocket City Trash Pandas (slang for raccoons). I think a dirtbag is probably just a dirtbag.

I haven't but will probably tackle it this summer. I read King's original unedited version of The Stand. Almost 1200 pages. That was a big commitment.

We just put my mother in a senior living place. Still independent living but after spending a lot of time with her during this process, I realized she's been pulling one over on us. Dementia has definitely set in. So I've taken over bill paying and managing all her stuff. I'm hoping that making life simpler will keep her independent longer.

My son recently went through…

My son recently went through that, but thankfully not nearly as much work. Eight fillings and three deep cleaning sessions that required novocain. When he entered college, he had no fillings. It was such a bummer for me, who really tried to preach good dental hygiene. He just let it go.

Yes indeed! To be honest, my husband and I still can't believe it. Like, is that really the kid who spent all his free time in high school gaming in the basement?

He's in Kodak, TN with the Cubs AA team, the Smokies. We tune in on MILB TV and see him in the bullpen, which is the weirdest thing ever! He loves it -- it's like living Bull Durham.

I spent the last couple of months reading "The Stand." Then I watched the 2020 miniseries (terrible), and I'm just finishing the 1994 miniseries (even more terrible). I have no freaking idea how to post a pic anymore.

That would've been Must See TV.

Wait, what?

Wait, what?

After reading the ESPN…

After reading the ESPN article about it, I'm not sure why people think we should try and protect Harbaugh here. His leaving was for him, not us. He thought about himself, and there's nothing wrong with that, but shouldn't we be extended the same courtesy? We have to think about our future interests, too.

Nor should they at this…

Nor should they at this point. We're forgetting that he was not only at the helm during the infractions but committed a few of them himself.

Monopoly money.

Monopoly money.

I’d be surprised if Harbaugh…

I’d be surprised if Harbaugh wanted to weigh in on this at this point. He moved on, it was something he had entertained every off season for the prior three years. I don’t believe it was a hard choice, he had nothing left to accomplish at Michigan. And he’s  been the kind of guy who avoids the media if he can. This seems off brand for Harbaugh.

Harbaugh left. He chose to…

Harbaugh left. He chose to leave. And second, Warde doesn’t act unilaterally on something like this. If anyone blames only him, they’re showing their bias against him.

And let’s remember that Ohio…

And let’s remember that Ohio State self-reported a couple of similar violations during the same period. But they’re squeaky clean. 🙄

They’re not. They see this…

They’re not. They see this as more validation that we’re cheeeeeeeters.

I 100% agree with you and…

I 100% agree with you and regret using the word “dumb.” It was a knee jerk response and I actually do know better. My sister is a now sober alcoholic and my husband’s brother and sister are both alcoholics. Ironically their mother was a professor, public health advocate, and researcher in the field and so we speak about this all the time. Everyone I mentioned has experienced alcoholism in different ways, it’s not a binary state — it’s not “you’re either an alcoholic or you’re not.”  So I appreciate you speaking up and reminding me that the term “dumb” isn’t applicable here.

I think it’s wrong to assume…

I think it’s wrong to assume someone who got an OWI is a dumbfuck. That sort of assumes he was in his right mind and made a dumb decision. If he was intoxicated, he wasn’t in his right mind and wasn’t capable of making a good decision in the moment.

 Before she retired, my…

Before she retired, my mother-in-law was a professor and health policy advocate in Washington who specialized in fetal alcohol syndrome, as well as the director of a program that helped children of alcoholics. Her definition of having an alcohol problem is when the drinking interferes with your daily life -- work and family being the most common. You don't have to be someone who drinks all day, every day and can't stop by him or herself (traditional definition of an alcoholic) to qualify as someone with an alcohol problem.

When people do stupid things…

When people do stupid things under the influence (and they're adults), chances are they have a problem with alcohol and need to get help. It's nothing to be ashamed of, it just needs to be addressed. I have several alcoholics in my family. One got sober and is now a sponsor. Another got cirrhosis and then got sober but she's now facing a possible liver transplant. The third lost his spleen when he blacked out and fell down some stairs. Some people can't control the amount they drink. A good friend of my husband, his former business partner, died two months ago from liver failure due to drinking. He was 58 with three kids. No shame, just get help. Alcohol is a beast of an adversary.

I don't know Denard…

I don't know Denard personally but I know people who have drinking problems and can't stop themselves from doing dumb things after consuming alcohol.

Would not have expected that at the beginning of the season.

The best superstar to…

The best superstar to Michigan story was that guy who was a psychology major who partnered with Derek Jeter on a project his freshman year. At the end of the project, the guy said to Jeter, "So what's next for you?" And Jeter said, "I'm going to go play professional baseball," and the guy was like, "Oh, ok, Derek. Whatever you say." Whoever you are, Psychology man, your story is my favorite Michigan sports story of all time.

It may not compare to what…

It may not compare to what networks are making but a $300,000 education isn't nothing, and an education at a good school like Michigan is worth a lot if you know what to do with it. In fact, I'm starting to think scholarships shouldn't be offered if they're seen as so unimportant and meaningless.

I have a friend who looked…

I have a friend who looked just like Lance Ito and people came up to him all the time and asked whether he thought OJ was guilty. I think there were even a few times, with a little alcohol in his system, that he played along.

It's a beautiful spot with a great view of downtown Chicago but it's going to be cold come November.

That trial was a shit show…

That trial was a shit show. I had a partner at work who was obsessed with it and every morning, she'd offer up a breakdown of the prior day's events and we'd sometimes watch it at lunch. The media coverage was out of control -- I think it was the precursor to the way media covers events today.

They should use the ETHS stadium. There's already some parking and lights. The current capacity is 4500 but there's room to add more stands.

In downtown Chicago, it was barely perceptible. We found an empty field and the sky was perfectly clear. It maybe dimmed a little, but not much. The air got a little cooler but nothing drastic. I've spoken to friends who got the whole experience and they were wowed. We were kind of meh.

That there used to be four…

That there used to be four TV channels and I agonized over having to pick one show over another versus now, where there are hundreds of channels and I can never find anything to watch.

Haha, I was with my 20 year…

Haha, I was with my 20 year old daughter at a bakery and the tip came up on the screen and before I could give a 15% tip, she said out loud, in front of the cashier, "No, no more of this tipping people who work at cash registers." Uh, wanna get away?

I think in all of sports,…

I think in all of sports, people like personalities as much if not more than they like the game. Sure, there are those who simply watch for the game itself and couldn't care less who is playing. But I think fans love to have someone to root for, and some reason to root for them (life situation, personality, some quality that's relatable that has nothing to do with the sport). Caitlin Clark is interesting because she's kind of milquetoast. She says all the right things at the right time, she's not particularly charismatic, but maybe it's because she's the girl next door -- seemingly nice, well-mannered but also a killer on the court.
