"...the summit was now visible and in in sight."

1 year 14 weeks ago You're not imagining it

You're not imagining it, but if you're like me, then yes, it is driving you insane.

2 years 18 weeks ago There are a handful of die-hard EMU fans

There are a handful of die-hard EMU fans. My dad is one. He grew up in Ypsi, played for Eastern back in the day, disengaged a bit when the mascot changed, but nowadays is back to his old ways of supporting EMU athletics with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

He goes to every home football game, some away games, most home basketball games (men's AND women's), most MAC tournament games, and some baseball games.

I'm a Michigan alumnus, but having grown up in my dad's household, I've undoubtedly attended more EMU games than most EMU graduates. I was there when Grant Long cut down the nets. I helped pack Bowen Field-house when Earl Boykins and Brian Tolbert electrified the court. I watched Batch blow away his receivers...

...and honestly, I've had fun. I've enjoyed being an Eastern fan. When the teams are OK it feels really good, and when the teams are normal it's at least easy to sneak booze into the stadium.

5 years 44 weeks ago Yeah, I'd thought of using

Yeah, I'd thought of using Desmond's pose somehow, but I definitely hadn't considered creating an "iconic" pose for each Legend.  I think some of the other folks have raised a good point about the effectiveness of such a strategy getting severely watered down the further we progress into different players and positions.  Only a few every really achieve anything quite so memorable and identifiable as a trademark pose.

On the other hand, it could maybe be cool to suplement the "Heisman pose" to any number which has been worn by a Heisman winner, basically like you did for Des.  I'd be down with that.

5 years 44 weeks ago Yeah, I had not considered that

Yeah, I had not considered that.  Still, I'm not sure the use of initials would be entirely inappropriate, especially since it would be a chest patch and not a black arm band or something.  Plus, many of the legends are no longer with us, and the rest obviously won't be forever - Michigan Football will outlast them all, and the point of both retiring the numbers and wearing an initialed armband is to keep the memory alive, right?.  Maybe?  I dunno.  You've certainly got a good point, but I'm not quite convinced that initials would be in poor taste or something.

5 years 44 weeks ago I concur.

I concur.

5 years 44 weeks ago I think that's a cool idea,

I think that's a cool idea, but I feel like there might be some sort of rule that each shoulder has a number so the officials can identify a player from either direction... I don't actually know for sure, but I feel like that's a thing.

But yeah, if it's legal I'd be all for trying it out.

EDIT: I'm dumb, I reckon that an official could probably just as easily identify a player by a set of initials on his sleeve, right?

6 years 22 weeks ago By all means, go for it.

By all means, go for it.  You're welcome to use any of them, and I don't need any credit :-)

6 years 35 weeks ago WSBC!

Full disclosure: I work for them, but still, I'd have to recommend the Wolverine State Brewing Co.

They're a mile from the stadium, they run a shuttle to the stadium on gamedays, and they won the voters choice for BEST Ann Arbor brewery from annarbor.com

Great beers there, great people, great set-up for tailgating, and a good convenient parking situation.  I honestly think they'd have to be a top recomendation for gameday drinking for the lack of hassle (namely parking) alone.  But seriously, good beers there.

7 years 19 weeks ago THE REDUNDANT CONFERENCE OF REDUNDANCY

Also, now that I think of it, why in the name of all that is decent in the world would we bother to write out "ten" and "10"????

It makes some sense to write out "ten" and some other numeric symbols like, oh I don't know, 12(!)... but "ten" and "10" is just STUPIDLY REDUNDANT.  Why sneak in a number just for the sake of sneaking in a number?  If it doesn't make sense, don't do it.  Yes, we liked the "11" hidden in the old logo, but shit, we're adults, we'll get over it.

7 years 19 weeks ago It's almost illegible...  And

It's almost illegible...  And for the short-hand version, what's wrong with a simple B10?  I mean, other than that it's a vitamin?

In any case, it could be worse, but they're trying to do too much.

7 years 19 weeks ago Red vs Blue

I'd be up for a Red Division and a Blue Division.

Long Division and Cellular Division?

7 years 21 weeks ago Hey, just trying to help

Hey, just trying to help those here on the board to articulate thier hate in more graphically explicit ways (as well as spread hate beyond the reaches of the mgoboard, to other, more docile social media sites).

7 years 34 weeks ago ...

The mustelid in me says, "FRHAAAAWRGHHRRHHH!" but the hominid says, "Whimper..."

:-(

7 years 34 weeks ago Yeah I dunno. This may be total bologna, but...

If everyone were actually fit and well conditioned it seems like we would have fewer injuries.  I know it's football and I know shit happens, but it just seems like there are aspects of fitness/conditioning besides strength that may be lacking here.  Also, I don't remember being floored by our late-game/late-season stamina last year.

*ducks and covers*

7 years 35 weeks ago Yes but he is lagging far

Yes but he is lagging far behind in the Excellent Name / Nickname Department.

Plus, Zoltan practiced kicking for years on planets with much stronger gravity than earth's.  You just can't replicate that kind of training.

7 years 35 weeks ago Faildidas

Yeah, those hats look like some sort of off-brand thing you might find on sale for $6 at Meijer.  Disappointing.

*goes out and looks for more random shit to complain about*

7 years 36 weeks ago The South Will Read Again

When it comes to the SEC the only thing as annoying as its consituents are the sports media asshats that can't distinguish between the SEC's sweaty sack and a cocaine-laced lollipop.

7 years 36 weeks ago Re: Picture

This is so off topic it hurts:

7 years 36 weeks ago ...

Seriously.  All I've done so far today is get rained on, read some grim shit on MGoBlog, and draw a picture of Captain Kirk fighting a Predator...

7 years 37 weeks ago Well then...

I guess I better dust off my old Nick Saban voodoo dolls.

Or, perhaps more likely, I have 2 years to swap Brutus out for an elephant in this image:

And hey, the world probably needed a picture of a wolverine devouring an elephant anyway... y'know, just to drive home the points that 1.) Nothing is safe, and 2.) You are alive when they begin to eat you.

7 years 37 weeks ago Les Miles draws a lot of water in that town...

Elliott Porter don't draw $%*&

7 years 37 weeks ago Hmmm...

Like Andy Staples, my guess is that Jimbo just likes him some quality Canadian folk music... or that he is, y'know, some sort of secret Canadian military experiment:

7 years 38 weeks ago Re: Further quotes

Well put, Meat.

7 years 38 weeks ago Hold on, what's this?

You think I walk into a stadium and not know what's going on?  Very well.  I'll show you my Flask Technique.

Any Carnival fans out there?   ...anyone? :-P

In any case, I studied a little "Flask" myself.  I guess I'll just have to double my smuggling technology... better get the scientists on that right away...

7 years 38 weeks ago Re: Forcier Banner

haha, yeah, I didn't have the easiest time finding photos of anyone that weren't under some sort of restricted license, so when I found one that would work I figured I had to go with it no matter who it was.

Hard to imagine Tate won't play a big role though, regardless of his status as a starter.  We'll see, I guess!

7 years 38 weeks ago MGoMockup

Hey all, here's a quick mock-up I threw together of what my banner would look like in situ.  Right-click and select "view image" for a larger view.

Cheers!
