Yes, and it was made into a French movie, a well-paced, tense thriller.

Most of the 30 for 30 docs are available for streaming. I tend to watch a lot of the British TV series, such as "MI-5," the Poirot & Marple mysteries, etc., as they're just nice to have on in the background while I'm working around the house. In my queue, but haven't started yet, because I want to devote my full attention to it, is "Twin Peaks."
I second the recommendation of "The Fall," and would add "Prime Suspect" (the original with Helen Mirren), "Inspector Lynley," "George Gentley" and "Foyle's War" if you like mysteries.

Apparently, the reason Kerrigan declined to participate is that NBC is producing its own version of the story to air during the Sochi olympics. Kerrigan is participating in that one, and in return, is able to have a broadcast position during the games. The director is on record of saying that the story really is about Harding, and that she wouldn't have made the film without Harding's participation.

If you watch the live interview right after the game, Devin definitely says, "Owww" before he responds to the question.

Ugh, the dreaded double post. That finale was so amazing that I got an MSU grad to high-five me on the win.

We were drinking young bordeaux all evening, and then I broke out a 2006 St. Julien, and the tides shifted, and all was history. I shall stock appropriately tor the Elite Eight.

I think Hot Fuzz is funnier because we grew up with the action films that it satirizes/pays homage to, but the premise of Shaun of the Dead is better.

A Korean horror film, "Thirst," directed by Park Chan-wook, who also directed "Old Boy." It's a vampire film, but one that grapples with the morality of it, and it is darkly funny at times.
Another underrated Korean film is "Memories of Murder," about a rural detective who tries to solve a serial murder - a slow-paced but satisfying mystery thriller.
"Tell No One" is another great mystery-thriller (French), heavy on the thrills.
The BBC serial adaptation of "Wallander" starring Kenneth Branaugh is very good; really great atmosphere. I think most people will like it better than the Swedish adaptation ("Henning Mankell's Wallander"), which is also very good but focuses more on the day-to-day job of being a police detective and less on the psychological toil that being immersed in murder cases puts on one's emotional state.

I happened to be doing work on a Norwegian securities fraud case, so it hit the spot. It's a great satire on provincial attitudes and the haplessness of Norwegian bureaucracy, as well as being a decent action film. If you like Scandinavian movies, I also recommend "Rare Exports," set in Finland - a little gory, but fun.

Actually, diamonds don't really depreciate in value. You're talking about the over-inflated retail price, which is kept artificially high by DeBeers' monopoly on gems mined in South Africa. Prices have come down quite a bit since Russian diamonds started flooding the market, but they tend to be on the lower end (smaller size, less clarity). Since there are objective criteria in measuring the value of a stone, the prices set according to them remain fairly constant. $50M retail probably translates to about $5-10M wholesale value, which probably gets watered down further, depending on avenues of resale.
Another advantage of stealing diamonds over gold is easy concealment and storage. $50M worth of gold weighs almost a ton.
|1 year 10 weeks ago||Revamped Upstairs Downstairs||
If you like British period soap operas like Upstairs/Downstairs, it's a really good example of the genre. The writer & creator is Julian Fellowes, who wrote the excellent 'Gosford Park'. The first season was terrific, with lots of good character development and thrilling plot points. However, the second & third seasons are more exaggerated, drama-for-the-sake-of-drama, and not as good as the first. It can be slow in spots, but the fun is in the dialogue, the costumes/set design and the house and all its riches.

If money is no object, I recommend the Panasonic plasma VT. The black levels are incredible. They bought the Kuro technology from Pioneer, who stopped making their tvs, but it used to be the best that money could buy (the 2008 model -the last year to be produced - is still highly sought on the second-hand market, but I doubt they're internet ready, unlike the Panasonic).

My first tailgate in college (New England, Ivy) consisted of hors d'oeuvres, hamburgers, cloth napkins, sparkling wine, and thermoses of hot buttered rum. I highly recommend it if you can talk some rich alumni's household staff into catering the tailgate.

I'm in NY too, and ESPN shows that it will be broadcast on ABC (unlikely, since USC v. Syracus is the other game) or ESPN2, so we're good.

It took me so long to finish that volume that I forgot what happened before, but I'm glad I made it through, because "A Dance with Dragons" picks up the pace and is much more entertaining. Skip ahead and read the last 5 chapters or so of "Feast of Crows," as major events occur therein.
