I actually completely agree…

I actually completely agree.  On 4th down you either have to go for it or punt.

Rage jockey?  Do you even…

Rage jockey?  Do you even watch Cowherd?  He's opinionated, snarky and arrogant sometimes but zero rage.  One of the more intelligent and fair sports show hosts IMO.  His format isn't fake rage debates.   Much smarter and thoughtful than Pat Mcafee or Stephen A. Smith.

Wouldn't hate this at all.

Wouldn't hate this at all.

"Most" is an overestimation,…

"Most" is an overestimation, but apparently the "vast majority" of SVU cases are "usually one 55 year old divorced misogynist dude whose main job is to gaslight the victim in order to reduce his workload so he can get to the bar sooner." is an objective statement backed up by solid data?

Care to explain the basis of your estimate there?

The Sound of Silence (Simon…

The Sound of Silence (Simon and Garfunkel) performed by Celtic Thunder. Trust me, find it on Youtube.  Stunnding version of the song.

Was at the game last night. …

Was at the game last night.  He didn't look too confident out there but it was his very first minutes in NCAA.  The only time he got the ball on the wing he attempted a rip through and drive and immediately fell over and walked. He looks the part though - lengthy and athletic.  Needs a little more time in the oven.

Recency bias. Pickens catch…

Recency bias. Pickens catch was unbelievable.  But go back and watch the OBJ catch again. It was a much longer throw (longer route, more ball momentum to corral) it was higher and more behind his head (degree of difficulty) requiring him to jump and bend his body backwards to a greater degree, and was in the endzone in a high leverage situation. He also had tighter coverage to deal with.  In fact the defender drew a PI flag.  Pickens didnt have to jump and wasnt being interferred with.

On the long Cook TD pass…

On the long Cook TD pass were Colson "got lost", he was also picked off my the receiver at the bottom of the screen who turned inside and straight up block him.  Is that legal? It looks like part of the play design.  He didnt just get in the way, he basically set a classic Beilein back pick.  Colson probably still wouldnt have kept up but that is why Cook was so free.

Don't overthink it.  Both…

Don't overthink it.  Both are eccentric, oddball personalities that routinely say interesting, baffling, cerebral or funny things in public and have offbeat but often effective approaches to player motivation.

Where is this Franz injury…

Where is this Franz injury thing coming from?  Was anything reported?  Mlive asked Juwan and other players about it and all said they weren’t aware of an injury to Franz.

Seems it’s solely from Franz hobbling awkwardly after that last shot as time expired against MSU.  But in light of the above comments how can this preview label him an injury “question mark”?

Does this eventually go away…

Does this eventually go away?  I was exercising okay about a month after recovering from COVID, but then my stamina (when running or doing HIIT) fell off a cliff and general fatigue came back.  Plus the occasional random heart flutters and "intensifying" as you say.  I don't know what to do about it.

Hold the Line is their best…

Hold the Line is their best song.

Honestly Noel should…

Honestly Noel should consider playing football and becoming a TE or a ultra tall WR after this year.

Yeah and it's sort of dumb. …

Yeah and it's sort of dumb.  It's like catching the flu, maybe even easier to catch.  80% of us will have gotten in 5-6 months.

"Saying that the US is…

"Saying that the US is overreacting (it is) is not the same thing as saying that the virus isn't serious (it also is).  However, so is the flu; so are traffic accidents; so is heart disease. "

There are some things you're not understanding which makes COVID and the needed response to it different.  Flu is treatable and all but the most vulnerable recover from it.  The same is true of COVID. The worry is that due to COVID's extreme transmissibility, too many will get sick at the same time overflowing hospital capacity leading to unnecessary deaths.  It's not the disease that may kill you per se, but the fact that your severe (but treatable) case couldn't get the necessary treatment because all ICU's and ventilators were occupied, or because a doctor had to decide to give it to someone else.

This isn't the case with the regular flu - we have a vaccine for it and we're already familiar with it such that hospitals plan operating capacity around annual flu seasons.  Social distancing is precisely designed to prevent or mitigate this situation.  It's not necessarily stopping the spread but just slowing the transmission such that the health systems throughput of severe cases is within its capacity - "flattening the curve".

Traffic accidents and heart disease occur at a predictable rate (i.e. you don't get a half a million traffic accidents or heart attacks at the same time), kill mostly instantly (doctors can either save the patient from the traumatic injury or they can't; there is less variability of outcome as a function of treatment), and most importantly aren't highly transmissible between people - i.e. Social distancing doesn't make sense in addressing them (which is why we don't do it). Frankly, it's kind of stupid to even mention these as comparators.

Not horrible, just horribly…

Not horrible, just horribly wrong information.

All news outlets are saying…

All news outlets are saying that the vast majority will recover from mild cases and quoting the same exact mortality statistics that you are (~15% mortality above age 80, etc.).   You are seriously mischaracterizing how this is being portrayed.  It sounds almost delusional.

Literally no one has ever…

Literally no one has ever said it was an automatic death sentence.   No one.

Makes me wonder if OSU will…

Makes me wonder if OSU will flame out early in the tourney as Wesson doesn't get the B1G treatment. In an objectively officiated game Wesson should foul out in 10 minutes.

Lol at the amateur scouts…

Lol at the amateur scouts critiquing this 17 year olds game.  He's 6'10 with an NBA ready body and athleticism and great handling/shooting skill.  At this point, if he had the mature game/shot-selection that many are pointing out he lacks, he'd be going to Kentucky or Duke (hyped as the next Zion/Lebron) or would by-pass college altogether.

Yeah, I can already see that…

Yeah, I can already see that the home whistle will get Teske on the bench for most of the 1st half, keeping this game closer than it should be.

Langford hasn't played much…

Langford hasn't played much if at all this year anyway. Doesn't really make a different to their outlook.

Beat them at their own game…

Beat them at their own game. Michigan should lead the charge in NCAA reform and paying players - eliminating the OSU, Bama, Clemson, SEC advantage and leveling the playing field in its favor. It’s not cheating if we make it legal.   Grand strategy!

Why would you compare two…

Why would you compare two different sports?   That’s just... dumb.

ps- I think Bakich too might have more top 10 wins in a similar timeframe.  OMG!

Certainly hope it's true,…

Certainly hope it's true, but what makes you believe that to be the case other than wishful thinking?

I'm not so sure it's…

I'm not so sure it's Castleton's fault that the first screen didn't work. I think it's just better defense. In the first instance Z's defender goes under Castleton's screen which delay's Castleton's roll (cause he's in the way). Meanwhile Castleton's defender hedged out causing Z to pull up, effectively refusing the screen.  Z's defender doubles back behind the screen since Z refused it.  He didn't really "recover".

In the second instance the defender goes over the screen, giving Castleton the space to roll. This time Castleton's defender doesn't hedge as much and starts sinking, so Z pushes toward the basket with his own defender on his hip. Z going directly towards the hoop forces Casteton's defender (who is sinking) to slide over to contest, which left Castleton open.

I'll take it.

I'll take it.

Makes no sense.  Washington…

Makes no sense.  Washington National are the former Montreal Expos.  Same organization.  Astro's are sign stealing cheaters.

Seconded.  It's freaking…

Seconded.  It's freaking delicious and sits well in the stomach after chugging half the bottle directly from the fridge

I agree.  Whatever will beat…

I agree.  Whatever will beat OSU will beat those other teams.

Cool.  Also it's weird that…

Cool.  Also it's weird that you hate Michigan so much that you spend lots of time on the Michiganiest of Michigan blogs and consistently comment.

I broadly agree that shit…

I broadly agree that shit does indeed happen.  However shit never seems to happen to OSU.  OSU happens to shit. (in coolers sometimes)

High ankle sprains aren't…

High ankle sprains aren't common to basketball. You see them much more often in football which involves big people diving into your legs while you wear cleats on grass or turf.  Basketball action is more likely to result in an inversion of the "lower" ankle, i.e. the actual ankle joint.

Definitely a naturally…

Definitely a naturally skinny guy.  23lbs of muscle spread over a gawky near 7 foot frame won't be too noticeable.   The extra weight and strength will help a lot though.

Love the optimism.  But how?

Love the optimism.  But how?

Nut milks aren't milk (nor…

Nut milks aren't milk (nor are oat or soy milk).  Milk only comes from mammary glands of mammals.  If we're being accurate, it should be called "nut water" or "nut-based milk alternative".  It's called "milk" to market it as a milk substitute for those than can't have milk due to diet or religious reasons.  It doesn't have the same protein or amino acid content of milk.

Almond milk, for example, is a manufactured almond product. It's made from grinding up almonds with water then finely straining to remove the residual solids. Then additives (like carrageenan) are added to increase viscosity and mouthfeel (to simulate milk).  Plus sugars or other sweeteners.  Similar process for oat or soy.

tldr: Not milk!  Harbaugh would not approve!

I don't know why anybody…

I don't know why anybody would think Howard would decide to install an offense from 1987.  Did people forget he was considered an up-and-coming coach in today's NBA and cut his teeth with a progressive franchise in Miami?   I guess the logic is "derrrr Howard was a big, so therefore he likes bigs and will base his offense around post ups derrrr".

This is fine.  NYC is loaded…

This is fine, even a good idea.  NYC is loaded with Michigan alums.  MSG will be 95% Maize and Blue and be a true home game.  I've been to every UM bball or hockey game at MSG in the last 3 years and each felt like a MICHIGAN event.   It will probably be especially packed as the alums will want to greet Juwan Howard and see the new look team.

Not concerned about home court advantage - we do pretty well at MSG and it's Rutger.  My guess is this game played in AA would get middling attendance anyway.  At MSG, the game may be televised nationally and perhaps NYC area recruits may come.

It's a harness for wearable…

It's a harness for wearable bio-sensor.  The whole team wears them.  Our basketball team wears them as well.   It allows training/coaching staff to monitor physical performance metrics.

I like it. They are…

I like it. They are basically in full rebuild whether they admit it or not, and they lack dynamic big men.  He should get plenty of playing time.

J.J. Bleday.   That is the…

J.J. Bleday.   That is the baseballiest name ever and he lived up to it with monster numbers and a top 5 pick.

Not a Cavs fan, but it would…

Not a Cavs fan, but it would be fun for Beilein to get him for a 2nd round pick.

Mercenary working for coin…

Mercenary working for coin... lol everyone works for coin.  Even your dream job needs to pay you what you're worth.  If the sponsor of your dream job doesn't pay you what you're worth, most people go somewhere that does.  Players want to play for the best coaches and if you want to keep a top coach you must pay the going rate for one.

The University's best interest is to be really excellent at sports and academics, lead by the best leaders and students. That means attracting and retaining the best coaches, professors and administrators, not saving a couple 100K in the budget and getting a grade B coach.

Penny-wise and pound-foolish is no way to run a university or athletic department.

The majority of responses…

The majority of responses are misinterpreting this.  I too think earnest buckeye accounts are kinda weird (weirder than buckeye troll accounts even), but his comment said Juwan was a good hire - i.e. it requires cognitive dissonance to believe it's a bad hire - and his silver lining is that it at least wasnt Donovan.  Fair enough, can't disagree.  I wanted Donovan, but excited/optimistic about Juwan.

I wish there was some enforceable measure of reading comprehension and impulse control to comment here.

It's fair to think that…

It's fair to think that Howard was learned a lot from Eric Spoelstra in 6 years as an assistant coach.  Spoelstra is an underrated coach who runs a modern NBA space centric offense. This article from 2017 highlights what he does.

https://nbamath.com/the-brilliance-of-erik-spoelstra-has-allowed-the-miami-heat-to-conquer-offensive-spacing/

"... the Heat won two titles with Chris Bosh at center, sucking all the life out of traditional bigs like Kendrick Perkins for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Roy Hibbert for the Indiana Pacers and Tiago Splitter for the San Antonio Spurs. Public perception started to shift. “Monsters” became known as “trees.” Shooting was infinitely more important than back-to-the-basket scoring. Positional versatility became en vogue."

Exactly.  It's a fallacy to…

Exactly.  It's a fallacy to think that simply because Juwan was a post player, he will therefore run an 80's era post-up centric offense. That is simply inane thinking.  He's been assistant coaching in the NBA under Eric Spoelstra for 6 years.  Spoelstra is an underrated NBA coach who runs a modern, space and efficiency driven offense (in which the 5 man is more of a small ball/modern center - think Chris Bosh).

From what I read about him, he preaches fitting your offense to your personnel.  Why wouldn't Howard have learned from him?  And it wouldn't surprise me if he brings in an offensive assistant.

If we can't get Wright,…

If we can't get Wright, Stephens, Donovan, Prohm or some other Grade A stud or high upside prodigy, then yes absolutely.  Shaka Smart would be embarrassing.  He's a ra ra guy and would get owned by the real coaches in this conference.   And Cooley, god no.

Might be worth it to see…

Might be worth it to see Harbaugh and Martin interact with each other.
