The Game is always relevant. The basic equation hasn't changed much. BIG east winner would be favored to win in Indy, with a very decent chance of being invited to the playoff. The Game will always be a factor - often the deciding factor - in who gets that chance to go to the playoff.
Using only my gut (yeah i'm too lazy to analyze rosters and staffs) i still think its clear it comes down to 4 team in the east that have a shot at it. We aren't worse than psu and msu. beat them, and I guess it really does come down to The Game... at home.
The loss of mattison and washington is a factor - but so too will be their replacements. The only way The Game will ever feel irrelevant to me is if they played it in early October... Or if the divisions realigned and their was a chance for a rematch in Indy.
maybe so. maybe they just want to cash in, climb the ladder, and build their own brand. really, DB has created a very good brand (last 2 games not withstanding). he might get paid at temple without nearly the pressure to win... its sort of like retirement, but pays better. mattison will get to sit in the booth for 2 years and be the center of attention on D which will make his ego happy. to me, it seems like its just people cashing in on a decent level of success as they near the end of their careers (mattison and potentially brown).
I believe the loss of washington won't be very consequential. warriner has also been here for only a year, but made big improvements. losing him would be a different story. but washington didn't exactly make the big positive difference to be considered an essential cog in the defense.
thats what coaches do. whether you're coaching the players - or coaching other coaches, its probably more important to the team that they fix their shit and not take it personally. you see it in players all the time - they get their ass chewed out by a coach, but suddenly their attitude improves and so does their play. should be similar coach to coach.
detnews had reported that mattison's multiyear contract was set to expire within days. if our counteroffer came in after osu, that's not exactly sounding like we wanted to retain him - as much as we just wanted to avoid this particular destination. probably wouldn't have had a problem with him going anywhere else - but a late contract offer just to keep him from handing over the family jewels to osu?

I think the kids at bama are okay with playing for a micromanaging dictator. the ones that can't handle it aren't michigan man material.
