Failing a test in

Agree.

Failing a test in college when tests are random- not too big a deal- many players smoke and do fine.

Failing a test you know you must take- idiotic.  Either he doesn't care or is too big an idiot- either way makes him look pretty bad- and won't help him with the draft.

59 years old with 1,098

59 years old with 1,098 wins.  She could have had a couple decades left with who knows how many wins.  She built Tennessee into arguably the top program in the country (or at least right behind UConn and way ahead of anyone else).

Besides being perhaps th etop coach (man or woman in the country) she seemed like a class-act as well.  Wish her and the family the best!

This is a terrible and tragic

This is a terrible and tragic story- and my condolences go out to David and his family.

It's obviously no replacement- but I am happy he will be at a place like Michigan where the coaches treat the players as family, and instill strong virtues and respect the student in student athlete.  I hope he can find support from the UM community and team- and that he and his family can get the support they need.

Good luck

Best of luck to him in MD!

Hard to see him go- would have been huge to have him for what is looking like a fantastic year coming up.

But for the students its best to be where you are happy- and I hope he has found that.

UM: 108 x 62 = 6,696

UM: 108 x 62 = 6,696 ft^2

Ohio: 124 x 42 = 5,208 ft^2

That is the sturcture measurements- not sure what that means for video dimensions...

Who decides?

Players have to agree to a redshirt correct?

Do coaches identify players they want to redshirt and just ask?  Can players essentially be forced to redshirt?

If the player decides not to and doesn't want to do 5 years who is anyone to say that's wrong.  Even if it hurts the teams chances ultimately by not having a player have a good fifth year instead of doing nothing year one it's the kids life/education...

Looking for someone who knows more about how the process works!

Any Meyer is not a good coach

Any Meyer is not a good coach comment is just silly.

Sure argue Hoke may be better- and arguement may be made.  But Meyer has a NC, success everywhere he's been, and is a terrific recruiter and will be great at OSU- maybe not te best- but becasue he hasn't coached in the Big Ten yet means nothing about how good of a coach he is.

CHART?

Can we get a chart on this (any MGoNlogger with more time than me...)?

Maybe a HS list, a college list, and an NFL list?

Could it have this info:

Name

School/Job

Position

When at UM

Lots of Big Ten

4- Indiana

5- OSU

8- UM

9- Wisonsin

14 - MSU

Not too bad having 5 of top 14!

Dwon by 39

Down 1,296 to 1,257
Make it happen!

Why leave?
I agree- why

Why leave?

I agree- why leave?  Is it to play elsewhere?  Seems like a medical hardship at ND would be the way to go- free education at a top school is hard to beat.

Real sad to see anyone face this type of situation though- and wish him the best with regards to recovery.

I never knew either.

I never knew either.  Fantastic write up!

Real interesting how their program does work.  Have to respect the service academies and their teams- with the way modern football works it is just so tough for them to compete but its always nice to see them win (just hopefully not against us!).

True some Catholics may

True some Catholics may choose ND because of religion but its silly to question why someone would want to play for ND (meant as general reply not just for you).

ND positives:

One of the biggest fan bases- means many recruits grew up fans (also national fanbase as opposed to regional like many schools).

Popular in media- no matter how good they are they get top-5 exposure year in year out

Popular in culture- movies (Rudy), hats, merchandise- so it has appeal in that sense

Success- Yeah they are not the ND of old- but they are consistently a BCS threat- and with BCS rules if they qualify they get into a BCS bowl- thats appealing

Tradition- Hard to compete with ND tradtion (in no way can it be a negative- maybe not heads up against UM but even that will be debated by many)

ND negatives:

Lack of recent success- many top programs have not won recently- and most either don't have NC's or not for long time- so its unfair to use that as a major point

Coaching- Don't buy it- but many are saying it- he has results in his stops- and coach's atitdue and personality can be a plus to some and a negative to others- seems to work as far as getting good players for him though

Anything else?- All the rest I've read or hear people talking about is nonsense...

Yeah its fun to hate on ND- but it gets silly when there is so much talk about ND being an odd choice for a rectuit- makes UM fans seem obnoxious IMO- lots more positives for ND than negatives

Yeah I just saw that

Yeah I just saw that too...

Hard to know what any of it means.  Has he had similar tweets about other teams recruiting him?

Can't be bad- but also may really mean nothing at all as far as him coming to the Big House...

Isaac

I really want Isaac to commit

I think the better way to

I think the better way to view it is as favorite and as underdog.  Many conferences have lower ranked teams so should have losing records because they play top teams.

A better chart would have two rows- as underdog, and as favored team.

May not change any of that right now (have not looked thorugh the bracket)- but it is a much fairer way to show how conferences performed.

Big Ten Rankings

Rose Bowl- Michigan (v. Oregon- USC in title)- said we were Big Ten winner

Fiesta Bowl- Wisconsin (v. Rutgers)- put them as # 2

Note all Big Ten Ranks will be one higher than acutality with 2 teams in BCS

Capital One- Big Ten 2 - Nebraska (v. Georgia)

Outback- Big Ten 3- Michigan State (v. South Carolina)

Gator- Big Ten 4/5- Iowa (v. Florida)

Insight- Big Ten 4/5- Illinois (v. Oklahoma St)

Meineke- Big Ten 6- Penn State (v. Texas)

TickeCity- Big Ten 7- Purdue (v. Tulsa)

Little Caesares- Big Ten 8- Northwestern (v. Northern Illinois)

That's 9 teams:

Ohio State inelligible- so obviously they would mix up the order

Not Qualifying- Indiana & Minnesota

Winning by 5

A 4 seed winning by 5 is way too close.  All top 4 seeds (top 16 teams) really should all win by 10+ and not have close calls.  Not sure why the prediction is so close- Ohio is not a very good team (as most 13s aren't).  No they aren't terrible- but if they give us a close game it will not bode well (although teams have had close calls and made runs- I feel that early close calls expose weaknesses and overseeding more than anythine else)

It'd be weird if we played

It'd be weird if we played Memphis and Duke just like at the start of the season- but I think that part of the bracket looks pretty decent for us if it happens like that.

Yeah I hate Duke just like everyone else- but enough with the refs favoring them stuff.  Fans see what they want to see and everyone hates Duke so 50-50 calls are all horrible calls in fans eyes similar to how any close call in a Michigan game that doesn't go our way was clearly bad officiating...

Iverson is one of the top NBA

Iverson is one of the top NBA scorers of all time. He was incredible. Burke is a freshman in college lets not get ahead of ourselves here.
Iverson is one of the best players ever maybe relax on the comparisons...

If we beat OSU and MSU we not

If we beat OSU and MSU we not only win the conference tourney but end up 2-1 against both beating of them at home and at a neutral site and losing away. Then it makes it hard for anyone to talk shit about us being co-champs.
Plus that helps our seeding.

He must be skinny as hell...

He must be skinny as hell... Unless he hits the gym real hard its tough imagine him playing soon if he is that skinny.
Your last point about now targeting top players is real exciting at this stage. It seems like we can sit back now and wait and see which elite players choose us at this point!

Glad OSU won. Will help us

Glad OSU won. Will help us be prepared better and can help with seeding- particularly with a win.
Also big win for Cinci over Syracuse but holy God those uniforms are disgusting. Possibly the worst I can think of...

He played one hell of a

He played one hell of a game!

Impressive how effective his game was with so few misses.

We need to hit freethrows and rebound better if we want to win another tournament game (Big Ten or NCAA)

PSU getting top recruits

PSU getting top recruits seems to hurt OSU a lot more than Michigan- is that due to recent thinking with OSU stealing PSU recruits and this- or is PSU getting top guys likely a good thing (relative to UM-OSU rivalry) for Michigan because it will keep OSU down with recruiting more than us

Good weekend

Excited of the weekend.

If we get a couple commits it will let us be even more selective for our last recruits.  It seems like the staff is keeping spots for top targets- so there can't be too many other spots not counting those left- so recruits are really feeling the pressure to commit it seems like

Damn

Damn-

That's a huge project!  Pretty remarkable!

Glad he also supports UM!

Too bad

That will hurt their seeding too- that stinks for them.  It's good for the Big Ten when Indiana is a good (if not great) program- so it has been good seeing them get back to that level- too bad this could mean a quick tournament for them.

Rooting for no upsets

I'd rather have no upsets.  I think it's best for tournament preparation and seeding if we play OSU and MSU- although playing Indiana/Wisconsin instead of MSU wouldn't be too bad- but if we win today it'd be best to play OSU instead of Purdue IMO.

I agree- except I would add

I agree- except I would add that not all tweets are equal.  Tweeting about hating OSU or trash-talking may warrant a discussion with coach, but is much better than tweeting something that is an NCAA violation (like we are dealing with now).  I would (and the staff likely does) have a clear policy in place- they are allowed to tweet except for these things (whatever the staff eems innapropriate) and for each of those things here are the consequences- with NCAA things being a more serious offense because it can potentially hurt the whole team and school more than tweeting something that does little more than potentially embarass the player/staff/school

Syracuse and Kentucky are 1

Syracuse and Kentucky are 1 locks.

Duke/UNC will have one

Kansas/Mizzou wil have one

Unless somehow all 4 of those teams fail to make the conference finals we have no shot at a 1.  And chance all four of those teams lose and we beat OSU and MSU is very small.  And even if it happens the above teams may very well still have the edge.  We can get a 2- but absolutely no chance at a 1 in my mind.

3 seed

If we win against Minn/NW I htink we get a 3- because an OSU (if they win as expected) loss is nothing to be ashamed of and Georgetown lost- not sure nay of the 4 seeds now could jump us?  If we lose then maybe there is a case- but I feel ok about our chances of being a three seed- lots of top wins and a split big ten- the 4 seed players right now will have a hard time jumping that.  Even if we get a 4 seed thats not too big a deal- think we can do alright from a 4- not too much harder than being a 3 since the 1/4 matchup is not too much worse than a 2/3 IMO.

Yes the defense was garbage-

Yes the defense was garbage- and there were many issues and very underwhelming results- but the team that won a BCS bowl was mostly his guys.  I think it's fair to say he had a big part in that.  His system and his coaching strategies (particularly his defense) did not maximize the talent he had- but he pulled in lotsof the talent that won a BCS bowl game.

It's fair for him to be bitter and upset- I think the RR bashing gets too carried away- if he did as bad a job as many people try to claim then how could a team he mostly built be a succesful team right away?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Minnesota does not scare me

Minnesota does not scare me at all- so I would not mind playing them.

NW does scare me- but I'd like to see them play in the tourament- so I hope they get another win.  Plus if we win the tournament maybe we can get a 2-seed if everything else goes right- and we tkae the toughest road- which is NW, OSU, MSU

Good stuff!

Can you tell us

Good stuff!

Can you tell us what the starting OL will likely be for the three years or so projecting out current players and the last 2 recruiting classes- it'd be neat to know who you think will get times and at what points in their development.

I agree with that

I agree with that thinking.

Seems similar to LB recruiting- take an early commit (McCray)- hold a spot for best guy (Levenberry) and see if another spot is possible with how the other positions go and if the "best available" guy might be a LB.

Seems like the staff has a three step plan:

1- EARLY RECRUITING: Make a pool of top talent- 4-5 stars mostly- and if someone is willing to commit early they have a leg up or a spot.

2- TOP 4-5 STARS: Hold spots for players who are studs (Levenberry) that will have a spot kept- and can be filled with either another position players who has interest or "best available"

3- POSITION LIKES: Some positions seem to have particular needs for recruits.  WR's may not be top 4-5 star guys but more the best guys that fir the tall, quick, strong WR for the system like Dukes- so some positions may not get super recruits in the same way.

I'd be happy with any of the wideouts you said- especially Treadwell- wonder if any of them will be treated like Levenberry and have a spot secured or if its first to pull the trigger?

Texas

That's what TExas does- they wrap up the kids from Texas early.

Look at all the Texas talent on the top 100- 7/15 of them are going to Texas.

Texas players:

10- Texas

14- Oklahoma

21- uncommited

30- Texas AM

42- Texas

43- Texas

48- Texas

52- Texas

53- Texas

54- Texas AM

70- uncommited

78- Texas

84- uncommited

89- uncommited

100- uncommited

MICHIGAN PLAYERS

28 (Morris)- UM

99- Elmer- ND

They have a huge advantage with so many Texas kids commiting early and so many top TX recruits.  MI can't just take top MI guys and get a top 10 class like Texas can.  It is harder to get a top class when there are less guys who immediately sign- like the top TX guys who root for Texas and sign right away.

TX 15, MI 2 for top 100- that's why Texas can put up quick monster recruiting classes and why it is so amazing Michigan is able to do that without the top MI talent.  Ohio State can do similarly in Ohio what Texas does- but not with quite as many top recruits- (Ohio has 5 top 100 recruits- three to OSU, Thomas to us, and one uncommited.)

YR 2

Touissaint back  and a whole year running and Denard in yr 2 should see some growth from our offense- or at least less turnovers

Yeah a small scholl would

Yeah a small school would help him get some time- but just think about how crazy it is to have a BCS football body as far as maturity when you are a sophomore.  What is he 15 or 16- and he is already showing that he can be a big time player- I don't care how small your school is that's crazy.

You see it in basketball too- some of these guys are just men among boys in high school- it's just crazy that seems to be the case for him already as a Sophomore.

Sophomore Recruiting

You have to be a beast to get BCS offers as a Soph.

Lots of recruits weren't on varsity or were not getting nearly enough time to be recruited as Sophomores- dude must be good

Disgusting

I can think of few things more disturbing than calling your team in to rough up a party because they did not want univited guests to attend.

If everyone involved is not disciplined (with the main players all removed from the team) it will not be acceptable to me.

A sense of entitlement, violence (especially towards women), and disrespecting non-athletes are all serious issues.  Any player that participated in this- that either started this or came in to support their teammates in this nonsensible way lack any of the decency required to represent their school as student athletes.

Why is the rule being broken?

Whether or not the rule is fair/makes sense/modern enough/realistic why is it being broken?

It is the rule- people know the rule.

Yeah it a small rule to break- but how are the players allowed to do this?  It seems like all the rules need to be made very clear to all players so that we have no issues with breaking rules.

This is so avoidable....

Good read

Thanks for putting this together- nice to visualize how great the talent interested or signed with Michigan is right now

CA

Obviously Hoke coached in CA.  Were his classes there mostly CA guys?  How big of an advantage for recruiting from CA will it likely be in the future?

If we could get both these guys (or just one) that seems like it'd be a huge get!

Big for ND

That's a big get for ND.

Yeah with 4 TE in 2 classes not a huge issue not getting him to go blue-but he appears to be a hell of a talent.

Best of luck to him (except when they play us).

Congrats

His years here at Michigan were not the greatest but there were some good times and he is a good coach and person and Harvard is a good story- glad itis going well for him

Those are all interesting

Those are all interesting examples- but the whole point (as I see it) of compiling data like this is to see general trends.

Many fans (and perhaps talent evaluators) get stuck up on examples that break from the norm to deny trends or to skew their perceptions of players- this data shows very clearly that the more starts you have the more likely you are to be drafted- with a couple unique counter-examples where for some positions 4* and 5* are not much different.

Yes 3* will outperform and get drafted above 4* and 5*- but there's a reason we get so excited about the massive number of 4* recruits we are pulling in- they do outperform 3* players as is demonstrated by a whole wealth of data just shared with us.

Great pic!

Will be some

Great pic!

Will be some LB's in that position it seems with Michigan- hard to go wrong with LB's in this class it appears- but I really hope we get Levenberry!
