It's crazy how different the tone around here is after a beat down of a vastly inferior opponent. A week or two ago the world was ending and plans were being made for Hoke's replacement, and now we are going undefeated and going to have a Heisman winner.

Dude. Chill the fuck out. We looked how we were supposed to look against a shitty team. The line had its moments and looked better than it did last year against Akron or UConn. We won by a lot and looked pretty good. Take the win and be happy

I'm clearly very biased but..... What? In what way will this be a worse team than last year?
And people were saying the same thing he is about Northwestern before last season, loom how that turned out. Talented upperclassmen, yada yada. I see no reason to believe they are a better or different team than last year, and they lost by far their best player.
I usually appreciate Maisel's commentary, but he could not be closer to wrong here.

Great post, but I don't get this quote:
"2010 was GERGtastic but man I can't get that mad at a season containing the 2010 Notre Dame game."
I actually thought the 2013 ND game was better. It looked like just about everything was rolling full force and the season outlook was really good. In 2010, the defense was OK only giving up 24 points, but it was beat over the top time and time again by horrible safety play. 2010 was two stagnant offenses making a huge play every so often. 2013 was just consistent good play after good play.
The 2013 ND game didn't make up for the rest of that season, but I submit that the 2010 game didn't either. 2010 was just as painful to watch. Maybe more entertaining, but just as frustrating.

I hear you, at least in terms of the defense, and that's why i'm buying into the defensive hype. They don't seem nearly as confident about the offense, and while that's expected, doesn't really make me feel too optimistic. I am just hoping the offense improves over the course of the year, and really the team in general. Last year the team seemed to get worse over the course of the year, with the exception of the OSU game.
|1 week 1 day ago||I'm buying into the defense||
I'm buying into the defense being vastly improved and more aggressive. There is no reason why this defense would not improve, after losing zero impact players and returning a lot of experienced talent.
Funchess may not explode into the #1 receiver in the nation or conference, but he will get double covered and extra attention, which will open up other passing options. Oh, and he will likely make more than a few big plays too.
Jabrill is making a lot more noise than Dymonte ever did, and the coaches sound very confident in him. He has already got the nickel spot down.
The offensive line - well I'm not going to touch that with a 10 foot pole until we see them play a couple of games. 7 days, and this speculative crap can start to die down.

Oh, certainly, coaches can be and often are wrong. I'm only saying that some random poster that thinks he knows better than Hoke who to put on the field is almost unquestionably wrong.

A couple things: I think you're an idiot if you really put much stock into who Hoke says is the starter right now. It's pretty clear that who he says is starting changes almost weekly and does not mean much.
Second, you are not at the practices. Hoke is. I'll defer to the guy who sees all of the team practices and is paid millions of dollars to do it.
|1 week 2 days ago||I really don't think any||
I really don't think any stock should be put into who Hoke says is the starter. He is just giving reporters a line of crap, and has been all offseason. At any rate, the DT is one of the most heavily rotated positions on the field, so who is the starter there means a lot less than any other position anyway.

Screw it, with a decent OL Michigan is the best team in the league, bar none. We have a much better QB and better skill players than MSU, and our defense looks to match or surpass them this year, especially with all they lost on that side of the ball.
Edit: yes, I know this post is OT, but I'm responding to the OP's comment that Michigan would have a great chance of being the 2nd best team in the conference with a decent OL. Carry on.

Don't sleep on Navy or Cincy. OSU has had quite a few early season near-losses over the years, one of which against Navy, if I'm not mistaken. Cincy is not great, but good enought to beat them if they catch them sleeping.
This is probably the OSU team with by far the most question marks I can remember in a long time (maybe excepting 2011). It'll be interesting to see how they handle it. I don't necessarily think they will lose more than 2 or 3 games, but they are much more vulnerable than in years past.
|1 week 4 days ago||"I want appropriate||
"I want appropriate punishments, be they in the program or legally, administered."
I think we can all agree on that. Missing spring practice is not really punishment. Dantionio has had a history of light or non-existent punishments (remember Chris "out of jail Thursday, playing Saturday" Rucker?). That is my point.
|1 week 4 days ago||I really don't understand||
I really don't understand your logic here. We can't be upset that his punishment is effectively nothing? When MSU fans like to claim that Hoke takes it easy on punishment?

Glenn Winston came back to haunt him.
And I'm still convinced that their blowout loss to Iowa in 2010 was karma for him reinstating Rucker without missing a game after a DUI.

No kidding. As someone who was in school during the Rich Rod years and stayed until the end of every game, I am actually kind of mad that he was leaving on the last drive of a 1 point game.

Miller is 6-4, 299 lbs. That is not that small for an offensive lineman. He's actually bigger than Molk was, if memory serves.

Players DO improve as they get older. Hoke being positive and Miller potentially taking over Glasgow is a very good sign.

It is a home and home with a decent major conference team. This is exactly what we should be scheduling.
Did you want Alabama, or something?
|1 week 4 days ago||I get what you're saying, but||
I get what you're saying, but won't opposing defenses also try to set the offense up for failure? They will not take it any easier on them than they did in the scrimmage.
Unless you're talking about tipping plays to the defense in order to put more pressure on the offensive guys.

We have a bunch of freshmen and sophomores starting on the line, is what's happening.
|1 week 5 days ago||From 11w: "My theory: losing||
"My theory: losing Braxton (even though he is Heisman-worthy) will benefit all of the surrounding offensive tools that this team has available, and therefore make this team better because we aren't relying on one man to make all of the plays. Braxton could have set all sorts of records this year, but now JT & Co. will spread the wealth; and we might see a whole bunch of studs emerge from this injury. Here's to a speedy recovery for Braxton."
That's... Very wishful thinking.
|1 week 5 days ago||They may have worked out the||
They may have worked out the kinks by then, but any way you slice it, this OSU team will not be the same one we would have faced otherwise. Even if their backup is pretty good, you don't just replace a Heisman frontrunner.
Not to mention, their whole team besides the defensive line is basically one big question mark. This could be a lean year for them, for OSU standards.
