My sister went to Alma and my dad was on the board of trustees. Everyone thought I would go there too. But I only had eyes for M, and it's the only school I applied to.

Fun stuff!

Trey Burk was college player of the year, and Ricky Green was a 1st team All-American. So they are my 1st and 2nd unit point guards with Gary Grant moving to the 2nd unit SG (he's 6'3" he can handle it).

Magee goes to the reserves; Jalen goes to just missed the cut.

I live in Denver, so…

I live in Denver, so selfishly, I would love to have JJ here.

The expectation for Manning was that he would win instantly (he did). After Manning there was a string of poor QB play (Siemien, Lynch, Osweiler, Keenan, Flacco, Lock, Allen, Driskel, Rypien, Bridgewater). The defense was good through this time, so there was a perception that Denver was only a QB away from being good. They tried to get Aaron Rodgers, but that didn't happen, so they got Wilson. The old regime traded away the farm to get him and then hired Nathaniel Hackett. Bad upon bad.

The expectation for JJ would be more in line with a young John Elway. The early Elway teams were not great. Jarrett Stidham could be JJ's Steve DeBerg. They rose to the top of the AFC and then the NFL. There are no illusions that the Broncos are only a QB away from being a contender at this point.

The Walmart ownership thing has worked out for the Nuggets and Avs.

Just curious, are you the season ticket holder? It's been a rough few years since 2015.

The OP must have had Anthony Carter in mind. AC was a 3 time Heisman vote getter, IIRC, and the best player on the great 1980 team.

My M love is organic.

We moved to Grand Haven when I was 4, in 1961. Neither parent went to M, but my Dad was a big sports fan. My first memories were of watching Cazzie Russell on Saturday afternoons on a black and white Magnavox. You could not get jerseys back in the day, so I made one with a white t-shirt and blue marker. It looked like a 2nd grader made it because I was in 2nd grade. My loving Mother was not amused.

My first in-person game was in 1967, a loss to Navy.

Going to college at M sealed the deal, Class of 79.

I wish he could have been…

I wish he could have been healthy to the end, he deserved to be on the field in the trenches.

Godspeed young man and thank you for everything you have done at Michigan.

Let's go Zak!

My sons got me this book by the Washington Post. It is scanned pages containing Michigan articles dating back to the 1920s. Pigskin bound and personalized. I think it has all the games Craig Ross ever attended.

The book is 14.5" x 11.5" and the scanned pages can be tough to read. After 2002, digital copies make the reproductions clearer. There are lots of other college stories on each page, which are fun to read as well.

Love is such a beautiful thing, which makes the loss so much harder. You were lucky to have such a great father and he was lucky to have such a great son.

That last 30 seconds where they make the block M and transition to vs Everybody was great. They should conclude all their shows with that for the foreseeable future.

This will be a great opportunity for Jim to ask Petitti how the investigation into OSU & Rutgers is going for sharing our signs with Purdue last year.

Dear Mr Rod Moore, the D, and the whole team,

Thank you for the great win today! My blood pressure has returned to an acceptable level. I'm good to go for the B1G championship game!

So sorry to hear the news…

So sorry to hear the news Lorne.

It's never easy to lose the ones you truly love. It's been 15 and 7 years since I lost my Dad and Mom at 87 and 89 years old respectively. I still miss them dearly because I owe so much to them. In some ways it gets easier over time, and in other ways it doesn't.

It sounds like a he was a great man. Cherish all the good memories and let them flow over your heart.

To paraphrase Brian from…

To paraphrase Brian from last week's roundtable:

  • The Pac12 is done, and the B1G is holding the gun and acting like it didn't shoot.
  • The B1G now makes no sense geographically or logistically.
  • College football is being monetized to the detriment of the sport.
  • In 10 years, conferences will be obsolete and college football powerhouses will seek their own media deals, collectively or individually, to get the best deal.

College football has been subverted, and it breaks my heart.

Great list Q!

The first play that came to mind for me was your #4, the Josh Ross stuff.

After years of OSU frustration, that play really lifted me and gave me reason to believe.

There was so much joy in winning that game!

1. Blue, it's always been my favorite color. The trim would be maize.

2. Airport. Per George Carlin, there is a spy at the airport, your job... Find him!

3. What question is not like the others. Piss on this one.

4. Buddy Ryan

5. She is a three-time winner of the Rabid Squirrel award at her work.

Great show, with some subtle time travel.

In the early seasons I am the same age as the character Sally Draper (Kiernan Shipka), Don Draper's daughter. In 1963 when JFK was assassinated, we were both in 1st grade.

Seasons later in the show, when Apollo 11 landed on the moon in 1969, I was 12 heading for 7th grade. Meanwhile, Sally was now like 15 or 16, in high school and smoking with her friends.

Good for ASU! They have a terrific college hockey venue in Mullet Arena. They also had Shane Doan's kid, Josh Doan, for the last two years (he signed with the Coyotes after the season).

I saw ASU vs Denver at DU last January. DU was clearly the better team but eked out a 3 -2 win in the final minute. DU out shot ASU 56 - 20. ASU's goalie, TJ Semptimphelter, had 53 saves! I felt bad for him afterwards, it was a Herculean effort.

College hockey is fun.

I wish they would have had the courtesy to wait until football season was over.

Great post JWG!

I was at the 1977 OSU game; I had no idea Gallagher was the one who ended Woody's nonsense with the banner.

I watched the video of the 1973 Minnesota game above; it was a different time...

  • No passes, ZERO, thrown in the first half.
  • Minnesota tried a pass in the last minute of the half, but the result was a 15 yd sack
  • Michigan's first pass came in the 3rd quarter, after we were up 24-0 and in Gopher territory
  • Minnesota ran eight-man offensive front throughout the game, even when they were way behind
  • Ironically, the Gophers only score was on a 36 yd halfback pass.
11W also believe they will…

11W also believe they will land Eddrick Houston, a 5* DE from Georgia. 247 has 2 crystal balls for Houston to OSU from Wiltfong (247) and Kurelic (Bucknuts) with a confidence level of 6.

OSU also has 3 CBs for 4* Edge Marquise Lightfoot (Wiltfong, Kureic and Trieu) all with a confidence level of 6.

They still recruit at a high level down in heart of darkness. We need to beat them year in and year out to bring them down.

This should strike fear into the Buckeyes' defense. Unlike them, I'm excited to see what a 100% healthy Donavan can do!

Good point about Penn State…

Good point about Penn State. Even with 2 quality losses, PSU was only one spot from being bumped by Tulane. Tulane was the sixth-highest-ranked conference champion, aka group of 5 auto bid. (Top 6 ranked conference champions are automatic qualifiers.)

Hey Kyle, thanks for this. I'd like to change my answer from probably yes, to they better damn well be in the 12-team field!

A one-loss Michigan team in 2024 is sure to make the 12-team college playoff. I wonder if a two-loss team, with Ls in Columbus and LA, would still have a case for the 12-team field. Probably yes.

The beauty of Jokic is that he doesn't need shoot to lead and elevate the Nuggets. A true team player that leads by example. This team is unselfish, which is why Bones Hyland was shipped out.

However... I am a long suffering Nuggets fan, and I want a championship. Maybe Duncan can join the Nuggets next year for a repeat (hopefully).

MGoBlog picking up Seth in 2010, IIRC, turned out to be a steal!

He definitely developed into an All-American.

Denver is a growing market, and I live in Denver. Thus, it is my desire to have CU join the B1G so I can see Michigan stampede the Buffaloes every few years. I was at the game in 1996 in Boulder and it was great. It helped sooth the 1994 wound from the game in Ann Arbor. Yes, CU was pretty good in back in the day with coaches like McCartney and Mallory. But alas, I don't think it will be.

I second any games with Ron Johnson.

My first time at Michigan Stadium was in 1967, I was 10, vs Navy. Sadly, we lost even though Johnson had over 200 yards.

Alex, please keep in mind Michigan and most schools did not have weight rooms until the late 1960s or early 1970s.

Well said Grampy.

Well said Grampy.

I can remember him getting back to the huddle just after they broke. He would have to ask the fullback what the play was. More often than not, it was another Jim Brown run.

This is a good opportunity…

This is a good opportunity for Karl. The Rockies have 3 starters out for a long time, German Marquez is having Tommy John surgery, Antonio Senzatella is likely out until August with an elbow strain, and poor damn Ryan Feltner has a broken skull from a line drive.

I look forward to seeing him pitch here when the Rockies get back in town.

It's 2023, times are…

It's 2023, times are different now. In the future, they will be different again. Some years ago I paid a crap ton of money for cable, but could not get the Big Ten Network in Colorado. Thanks to threads on this board, I found "ways" to stream them. Once I learned that trick I cut the cable.

I do miss having the Rockies games, but with the collapse of the RSNs I should be able to stream them soon. I also miss the Nuggets games, but their RSN, Altitude Sports, is in a long running battle with Comcast, Dish, and Direct TV so they are not on anyway.

On Saturdays when Michigan is on the BIG Network or ESPN I watch on my computer or go to a bar. When they were in the CFP after the 2021 season, I got a free trial of Sling TV.

I'll probably get Peacock this fall just to watch more BIG games. ESPN has indicated they will be going to a streaming model in the future, I'll probably give that a try. I think cable missed out on not offering ala-carte.

Well, Mel could always come back to Colorado. They love him here.
