No. I'm a Minnesota native and people don't have that extreme of accents, but it is funny to see on TV. In the Twin Cities there really isn't much deviation from a standard Midwestern accent, and up north you start to hear it a bit but not terribly bad. The "aw shucks" attitude they portray is more on point though. Really liked this first episode.

In Beilein's offense the 3 is a guard for all intents and purposes. I hope he can stick there and doesn't have to rotate down to the 4 like Glenn because of depth problems.

Irvin wasn't put in a role this year to show off his passing skills AT ALL and was rarely in a position to drive. Beilein had him in a catch and shoot role and took him off the bench for the sole purpose of draining a few threes. A lot like Stauskas just sitting in the corner his freshman year when he was on the floor.
He's already a better 3 point shooter than GRIII ever was at UM. Next year he'll start every game and get the opportunity to do more things on the court with that added freedom. I believe he'll show huge gains overall in his offensive game and be a multi-dimensional threat. Caris can stay Caris, we don't need him to change his role. Also Nik never was the PG this year, Caris had a stretch or two in a couple games where he handled the offense but just because Nik brought the ball up the floor or got iso'd doesn't mean he was ever playing the 1.
EDIT with some stats:
2012-2013 GRIII: .324 3pt% on 71 attempts, .652 2pt% on 221 attempts, 43 assists, 1312 minutes
2012-2013 Stauskas: .440 3pt% on 182 attempts, .500 2pt% on 116 attempts, 52 assists, 1190 mintues
2013-2014 Irvin: .425 3pt% on 146 attempts, .460 2pt% on 50 attempts, 13 assists, 568 minutes
For me, when you're looking at the stats I see a lot more of a potential for Irvin to become similar to Stauskas than GRIII. He's much more of a behind the arc player (at this point in his career) than GRIII ever was, and he chucked up only 36 less threes than freshman NIk on half the minutes. The potential is certainly there for him to carry a huge load of next year's offensive output.

I'm not saying he's as good of a player as Stauskas is right now. Nobody thinks that. But his skillset and the way he was used later in the year reminds me a lot of how Nik was used his freshman year. Irvin can stroke from the outside and clearly has the athleticism to start to drive and create his own shots. A summer in AA should do a lot for him and he'll be getting Stauskas type minutes next year.

Irvin is plug-and-play for Stauskas.
Gotta figure it'll be a mixture of Donnal and Chatman at the 4. Donnal when we want to go big and Chatman when we roll out a 4 guard look similar to this year.
Then you got Walton at the point, Caris at the 3, and McGary at the 5 (Donnal can probably also get some minutes there when Chatman is at the 4). Doyle and Beilfeldt battle it out for the garbage minutes down low, and Spike and Wilson provide some added depth in the backcourt.
Bada bing bada boom, that's a squad.
EDIT: And of course Dakich leads what should be another strong bench celebration unit for UM. How could I forget.

Hash Bash is Saturday too, just so you all are aware. If you're coming with kids you might want to stay south of the main campus area.

Well now I can admit it, my friends and I bought around 20 elite eight tickets before the sweet 16. Wouldn't have dared to put that in writing before the game ended. Bang me.

Harvard and Columbia were the only two I could find that beat out Michigan and I put us against a lot of top schools. Anybody else beat us out in this thing?

Eh...New Mexico honestly isn't an ideal matchup for us either. They run their offense through two bruising and pretty skilled big men down low. Tough defensive assignment for our guys.

I don't think Cuse has any shot at it. They're way back on the s curve right now and have too many bad losses. Honestly with nova out I think it's UM, KU, or Wisconsin. If we win the BTT then I think we have the inside track.
|5 weeks 6 days ago||Well if we win the BTT we'd||
Well if we win the BTT we'd presumably jump Wisconsin. Kansas ahead of us right now is debatable, especially with the Embiid injury (which the selection committee is monitoring) and their recent loss to WVU. I think we have a very solid shot at it if we win the BTT.

I think you'd make a lot of money if you could guarantee 10% for this month in the markets.

I don't think you understand the market for student tickets. It's really high. I'm gonna buy them just so I don't have to deal with finding a ticket before every week, but I guarantee I could find individual student tickets for every game for a much lower total than 295.

Don't like that draw at all. Besides Eastern there isn't a single gimme in there. OKSt just pushed ISU to the brink in Ames where we lost. UVA won the ACC. And Florida's been #1 for a while (yes in a weak conference), but realistically UNC could upset them and be a tough out in the elite eight. I really hope the regions are more balanced than this.

A couple things...One, if you guys have been talking about it so much at your meetings what has actually been done to solve the problem? If there's one thing I love it's people that can identify problems and offer no solutions. And two, you're not "too much" of a fan; it's that you think you're more of a fan than me or any other diehard student basketball fan just because you go to a meeting every Monday. This is undeniable from a general standpoint of the Maize Rage leadership people. I love Michigan basketball just as much as you guys do, so you're not entitled to any more benefits of student ticket ownership than I am.
|6 weeks 3 days ago||This is one of the more||
This is one of the more coherant, well put rips of the "core" group I've seen. Their cheers suck, they do NOTHING to reach out to people outside of their little group, and they have a false sense of superiority to the other fans. Currently the people that lead the Maize Rage are unfit to lead such a large student basketball following. I mean you really can't put together something for free throws besides "bum" or "you will miss?" No thanks.
|8 weeks 5 hours ago||I really think more schools||
I really think more schools need to be open to doing this. Trust me, no college kid at UM has any trouble whatsoever getting alcohol into the Big House or Crisler if they want to. I usually bring a cheap pint of liquor in with me for the late tip Thursday or Friday basketball games, and there certainly isn't a TSA level of security at the entrance. It just makes money sense to serve at the college games. Plenty of students are of age, plenty of the athletes are of age, almost all the other fans are of age, and schools need to give up the "holier than thou" policy of not serving alcohol at NCAA events when doing so isn't even against the rules.
