Date Title Body
Chrysler Center

I read the other thread to see if this question had already been answered, but I didn't see an answer.  There is (used to be anyway) a building on North Campus named "Chrysler Center"  Yes, I know that it is spelled differently, but isn't that just a bit confusing to have two different locations with the same name (at least when spoken)?  Just wondering if they thought that through.

The John Cooper of Michigan

The John Cooper of Michigan State Hockey....sigh...

I've been saying the same

I've been saying the same thing for the last three years (actually a whole lot longer, but three years seems about right), and I'm going to continue saying it.  Why?

What else am I going to say that will make a difference?

I figure that's why they do what they do and why I do what I do.

3:00  "Why the F*** are they

3:00  "Why the F*** are they calling me a coastie?  I'm not even from the coast.  I'm from Chicago.

I think you are missing one

I think you are missing one ingredient in your argument.

Ball State and San Diego State were both in the MAC and MWC respectively the years before Hoke got there, and they still sucked within their own spheres.  They were the proverbial small fish in small ponds.  Hoke was quite successful in turning each into THE big fish in their respective small ponds.  Each of those successes needs to be compared with the lengthy failures of THAT school year over year to really see how good a job he did.  The fallacy is trying to place the teams he built in the general pool of talented teams.

Now Hoke has moved to THE big pond and is tasked with turning a middle size fish back into THE big fish in its respective pond.  So, yeah Michigan's pond is much bigger than the MAC and MWC ponds, but the available food (resources, exposure, recruiting power, etc.) is also much greater so  there is just as much potential for him to be similarly successful at this level.

I guess what I'm saying is, considering what he had to work with and the boundaries within which he's had to work, he's done a helluva job so let's give him some credit and allow him prove otherwise before bagging on the success he has had.

No, but would like to see

No, but would like to see video if anyone has that capability...

There were reports that GMAT was at the BBall game.  So he CAN be in two places at once!!

Leave it to the blasted rules

Leave it to the blasted rules makers to squash dreams and snuff out these kind of human interest stories.  So what if some guy makes it to the Olympics and steals the imagination and interest of millions of people around the world?!

The serious athletes should probably make themselves more interesting if they want people to be more interested in them.

This team is really starting

This team is really starting to heat up.  The only team in the top 6 of CCHA to win tonight.  Let's keep it rolling, baby!!!

Yeah Alaska's had a pretty

Yeah Alaska's had a pretty solid team for a few years now.  Just odd to go that long without a shot.  Eh, Merrill scored as I was typing the question so I guess I'd rather have shots that go in.  Wooohooooo!!

Funny thing is I remember them making a big deal about FSU's defense last week too.  Not that UM ran away with anything, but I really think our boys are starting to solidify and play reeeeaaaallly well.

How awesome would that be if

How awesome would that be if he coud come back and pitch a shutout to Sparty in his "Welcome Back" game?

Where are the shots?

Almost half-way through the third and Michigan has yet to  register a shot in the period.

Not that I don't think

Not that I don't think Hunwick is doing a FANTASTIC job, because he is, but is there any word on when Hogan will be available again?

Say things like "I would walk

Say things like "I would walk to Ann Arbor from San Diego" and "I would work there for free"  I heard that kind of passion does wonders at loosening up the job offers.

Those people who like to tear apart and like to criticize, and like to find fault, and all that stuff, they're out there and let them be out there.  They are not going to detract me or this coach or our team from getting on the path that we all want to be on.

Glad you have the two feet in

Glad you have the two feet in front of your face figured out, and you nailed it indeed.

Think long term.  Think BIG picture.  It was NOT working with RR.  It was obvious that regardless of who coaches Michigan in 2011, it was NOT going to get any better with RR.

So, yes the only hope was to bring in SOMEBODY different.  It really doesn't matter who, but if they can put this highly volatile fan base at ease, even just a little bit, maybe they can get things on track.  That somebody better have a longer vision than just NSD 2011.  I'm absolutely positive DB does.

If idiot fans who think they know better than DB or BM or RR or LC would just STFU and let those people do their jobs, they might see that good things are possible, but that will never happen, though because everyone in the UM fan base is a better, smarter AD than DB because, heck, they've watched Michigan football for years.  Of course they know better./s

It's just incredibly ironic

It's just incredibly ironic that he talked about building the brand all season as he deflected questions about Rodriguez only to tarnish it by firing RR without having an obviously superior replacement lined up.

Disagree.

Liken it to a marriage gone sour.  I mean REALLY sour.  So sour that there is a toxic environment in the department and in the community surrounding your program, because I believe that is probably at least in part the case.  I don't believe it was that bad before the bowl game because a lot of folks really thought we could put the pieces back together and compete given time to prepare for a single opponent and a little time for our youth to mature a little, etc.  Once we layed the giant egg in Jacksonville, the mood and environment just got toxic.  Even on this board, you could tell a lot of people lost faith.

Now, if you are in a toxic marriage such as described above, you don't wait until you have someone else "lined up" to get a divorce, do you?  No.  You get yourself out of the toxicity, take a breath, THEN you start figuring out who you are going to marry next...with the idea that you are going to be with the next person for a loooong time.

Completely disagree!!

Completely disagree!!

I imagine I would be in a different line of work if I knew so much about how to run an athletic department, or a major, highly visible, multi-million dollar organization.

So, where are you the AD?

I thought so.

Have faith that DB, while maybe not having ALL the answers immediately at hand (who does?), probably knows better than you or I what he's doing and how to do it.

As long as Dantonio and

As long as Dantonio and Tressel were both part of the crowd, only for the 'losing any head to head matchup part, I give my full support to this plan.

What, did you used to play for RR at Glenville State or something?

Second that. Especially your Second that. Especially your last statement.

Big Difference

Harbaugh inherited a team fresh off a 1-11 season (and a generally losing team for years).  Rodriguez inherited a team fresh off a 9-4 season (and a generally winning team for years).

At least an earthquake would

At least an earthquake would be quick.  Arguably better than the repeated agonizing deaths We've all experienced since 1 Jan 2008.

I actually had a conversation

I actually had a conversation with JH in Feb. 2008, shortly after RR was named head coach at Michigan.  Asked him about the coaching search, and he said Michigan did not approach him about the job.  He also said that he wouldn't have taken it even if they had approached him because he had a contract with Stanford.

This leads me to believe that there MAY be some merit to the JH rumors because of the way he is playing his Stanford contract situation.

I also walked away from my conversation with JH thinking he was a pretty standup guy that actually had a working moral compass.  I was encouraged by this since he will always be a representative of Michigan whether he comes here to coach or not.

I am personally on the fence about the whole CC situation.  I would like to see what RR can do with his young team next year, but after my conversation with JH, I like what he brings to the table.  The only thing I DO NOT want to see is RR let go without JH ready to step in.  The circus that resulted when we did that three years ago was too much for me to handle a second time.

Makes good sense.  SEC needs

Makes good sense.  SEC teams (and OSU) somehow need to account for all the money they pay players and their parents on the balance sheet.

I bet you pay a little more

I bet you pay a little more attention to the ball boy when his dad is one of your coaches...

Just saying.

(O-H-I-O)

I saw these in a store up in MI a few weeks ago.  Almost boutght them until I saw the (O-H-I-O) at the bottom.  I took a pass.  I'll get the original at MGOBLOG.  The fact that you have to spell out which state is depicted is ridiculous.  I figure if you don't know from the picture, you don't deserve to see the truth and humor of it.

Reminds me of my bumper sticker that says, "OHOWIHATEOHIOSTATE"  I've noticed that just about everyone who sees it, understands it and gives a little chuckle with one very significant exception.

I've noticed, almost without fail, Ohio State fans who come by, look at it, give it the RCA dog look, and say, "What's it say?  I don't get it."  Every time I just think, "How appropriate..."

Yost Crowds

Awesome!!  Thanks for posting.  Makes me proud to have been a part of that at one time.  Not the MMB, but the crowd.  I was there during the resurgence in '90-'91 when Berenson finally got his mojo going as the coach.  I frequented MSU hockey games as a youngster and remember the crowds being incredible.  When I got to Michigan in '89, hockey and the crowds in particular were relatively lackluster.

I know the Cornell series is what is credited with the beginning of Michigan's resurgence, but the turnaround in my mind was against Sparty earlier that same year.  The previous matchup against Sparty in Yost was  equal parts Green and Blue.  It was an embarrassment as MSU fans who couldn't get into Munn Ice Arena flooded Yost and essentially took over our home ice arena (Much like the 2009 OSU football game from what I understand) resulting in a tough loss to the  (at the time) dominant Spartans.

Adds were run throughout town, in the Daily, on posters hung around campus to "Shutout Sparty;"  to buy tickets to the Michigan/Michigan State Game.  And we did.  It became a Michigan campus-wide mission to fill the arena with maize and blue and amp up the crowd for that game.  There might have been a total of three Sparties in that crowd.  Michigan won that game fairly handily.  The arena and the crowd absolutely ROCKED for that game!!

From that moment on, Yost has been the best venue for hockey and the crowds continue to get better.  The next year was the first year they offered student season tickets and general admission to hockey games went the way of the dinosaurs.

That game was probably my second favorite Michigan Hockey game experience after The Big Chill.

I like how ignorance is an

I like how ignorance is an alibi in this case, but misunderstanding whether stretching counts as practice time qualifies as a "major violation."  NCAA is a joke!

Makes me glad there are schools out there like Michigan, willing to take the honorable high road rather than the slippy slimey low road.  That's the only thing that keeps the NCAA a viable governing body.  I'm proud of the way Michigan owned up to their issues.

I hope it's obvious to more than just me, and that the rest of the world takes note how some programs have integrity, and others...maybe not so much.

Well stated.  I like the

Well stated.  I like the angle that the $$ the university brings in isn't just to fill the coffers.  It funds other athletes in non-revenue sports to be able to enjoy a quality education.

I'm sure Ohio U. would

I'm sure Ohio U. would happily accept Devier's transfer request.  He could have gone there, and then he wouldn't have this "problem."  What a DB!!  Nobody forced him to go for the glitz of stardom to play at a high profile program like Ohio State.

Bravo!

Man, I give you credit.  I can't even imagine how hard it was to intentionally butcher the English language that badly.

+1

+1 to you, sir for taking the initiative and running with it.  Looks great...except for that green banner at the top of the page.  Another +1 if you find a better color (the new big ten color and red excepted).
