I guess I am one of those ppl to think that the cover-up extended into the university and coaching staff. I think people will look @ this and say, well, we got the bad guy. I think that will be the PSU response for one. I want to see the PSU ADs (or whomever) on trial, see another jury where 1/2 of them have a connection the university. See how that plays out next. I see a whole coaching staff that perhaps knowingly sat silent along with the ADs. Could some of these kids been spared? If this ends with Sandusky getting convicted and nothing more. It's not good enough for me.

sections were empty from 6-12 rows from the top, depending on section. Very noticeable. Students=fail. I mean, an 8 win Neb team comes here and thats the best you can do? Halftime sucked, worst halftime I've seen in 20+ M games. |
| 1 year 26 weeks ago | I ll be that guy |
that calls out the students for not filling the student section today. Not even close, I would say depending on what part, the last 6-12 rows were open throughout the game. You guys can't show up @ 12 30 for a battle between two 8 win teams? Here come the excuses... |

gotta swallow their whistles. Nothing but bad calls followed up by worse make up calls. We'll never beat a decent team shooting free throws like that. Horrible game Metrics. Wide open 3s were missed often in the 2nd half. This team hasn't played well in any of their first couple game, including the exhibition. I am expecting a slow start to the season and we'll pick it up once big 10 play starts. |

It's sad that T & T are moving on but that is life. We should be thankful of the outstanding services that they provided (free of charge) and wish them luck on the next phase of their careers. Who's to say that their replacements won't do as good as a job or better? Trying to point fingers @ the mgoblog community is totally fruitless @ this point. More donations doesn't necessary mean that these 2 would have been compensated more. Unmitigated disaster? Stay away from the cliff buddy. I am not saying we should cut him. South Warren would riot. Look @ his numbers, he's a first half player. He's under .200 now. So...What should we expect in the 2nd half of the season? Can Kelly play 3B? Can Inge shave his chin? Forgetting all that, he's an excellent guy in the community. |

You guys that think this could be a reasonable score, must be thinking like 5 wins total this year. If we can only beat the 2nd/3rd/4th worst team on our schedule by 9 points @ home..... I think this game will be similar to the last time we played WMU, score wise.

He jumps up the air and fakes either a dunk or the layup. I didn't see this mentioned in previous threads, but thought it was rather funny. I'd like a 11 seed instead of a 10 seed, given there are probably no real differences between a 6 and a 7 seed. Then we don't have to play that #2 seed in the 2nd round. A 10 seed is better than the 9 seed for the reasons you described above. |
| 2 years 10 weeks ago | warm seat |
I wouldn't say he was on the hot seat, his seat was getting a little warm early the year. I remember coming on here early in the year. People were saying 12, 13 wins total. A couple said 15. One guy said 17 and he was mocked by all. I didn't think they were making the NIT. Honestly, beating MSU twice? We were ahead for almost the whole time in those victories. Izzo exposed as a crybaby, whinner? Dream scenarios, that are now reality. It still hasn't sunk in yet. |
| 2 years 10 weeks ago | awesome |
I turned the game off @ halftime cause I figured watching it on TV was bad luck today. So the wife and I went upstairs for a bit. After I checked my phone and we were down 7. So I decided I couldn't watch the end of the game on TV. I turned the TV back on w/ 8 seconds to go. Totally worth it. The wife says that she was the good luck charm. Maybe she was. Great victory, now I need to find the highlights. |

I guess I was too pessimistic on the outcome of mon/tue/wed games. I guess I assumed that we had better chances to get some of those games than reality dictated. I have a high level of fear that a random nobody in say, the SEC, will win their conference tourney. Regardless, please keep up these daily posts Tim. |
| 2 years 11 weeks ago | Hoping |
We need a lot more luck with bubble games going our way. Monday night we did horrible, according to what Tim posted during the day Monday. Tuesday night (last nite) we did fair, I think Tim was more optimistic than I with last nights results. Assuming we don't beat MSU and ILL both, I think we will need plenty of help. Tim mentions 15 games for tonite. I think we need about 8 of them to go our way for it to be a decent night. Granted, some are more important than others. 10 would be great. |

Zack's late 3 pointer won this game. Could the announcers have been any more disappointed with the outcome of the game? Jackson looked like he was gonna cry during Coach B's post game interview. Michigan could donate a % (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, all) of concessions to Mott's for the Spring game. In addition, they could set up areas for general donations. This could enable them not to charge for tickets and still allow both the university and the fans to donate $$. |

The fact that we had to wait 4 years (07--->11) to have a somewhat veteran team is a poor reflection of the previous regime. I'll take it one step farther and say that just cause a freshmen or redshirt freshman played last year does not make the same player a veteran this year. |

| 2 years 18 weeks ago | full of risk |
Every possible candidate UM considered carried a risk factor. JH couldve bolted for the nfl after 1 year here. LM could have brought more NCAA violations/greyshirting. Hoke brings a mediocre record along w/ not being a big name coach. I think when you look and assess risk, you look and assess opportunity as well. Aquaman says this was a high risk hire. Others will look and say its low risk, but the opportunity/reward of a NC (national program) might be a little bit lower. Brings to mind George Constanza's studies of risk management. |

Its an open forum. Everyone, including Brian, has the right to give their opinion. Telling people that they need to agree with Brian or that they can't criticize Brian is a joke. If people didn't offer countering viewpoints, then everyone would just agree with each other all the time. Is that what anyone wants? |
| 2 years 18 weeks ago | Navy isn't a premier team but |
What was RR's biggest win here? Wisconsin, Uconn, ND? Hardly great teams. Brian needs to give this a couple years. Looking back @ the 2010 season, games against UMASS, IND, ND, ILL could easily have went the other way. I was all in for RR, until the Wisconsin game. There wasn't enought improvement. |
| 2 years 18 weeks ago | +1 |
To all 3 of you, some of us get it. |
| 2 years 18 weeks ago | Love? |
I love coaches that beat Michigan State and Ohio St. Not coaches that struggle to beat UMass or Indiana. I mean, say Ezeh was a junior, would he be our starting MLB for the first 1/2 of next season? Is anybody convinced that Vincent Smith is the best running back on the team and should get the majority amount of carries? RR will be successful somewhere else, but he didn't help his own cause here. |
| 2 years 18 weeks ago | Looking to See |
Hoping to see Denard stay, I would like him make some gains before his junior year as far as his passing consistency. Lets see cut down on throwing off his back foot. I am not so sure that the read option was his thing. I think he struggled reading when to keep the ball and when to handoff. There didn't look to be much improvement on this as the season went on and the schedule got tougher. Sure he did great against bad defenses. I think he's very capable of growing as a passer and improving like he did before his soph. season. |

| 2 years 19 weeks ago | I disagree |
You mention one reason for RR being fired. RR was fired for multiple reasons- defense and special teams regression, lack of wins vs. quality opponents, getting routed in big games, lack of wins vs. "rivals", questionable choices for assistant coaches based on RR's friendship, lack of fundamentals on defense, inability to adapt to roster when he arrived, the 3-3-5, and then asking GERG to run it w/ no prior experience. That's just some of them. I don't get all the talk about keeping him for a 4th year. I blame a lot of amnesia around here. Does anyone remember the 2nd half of the 2010 season, or the seasons prior? Give me Hoke, Miles, whomever. RR did nothing to deserve a 4th year. He's a talented coach, but he dropped the ball here. Say we kept him, and he has another 7 win year. We lose to about the same teams, in the same fashion. 1 year from now, we would be in the exact same position we are now. Scrambling for the same coaches, recruiting class waffling. This is painful, yes. Patience. |

Was the situation impossible here? I would say Difficult. Did RR make some bad decisions with his staff and strategy? yes. Did he not understand Michigan tradition when he came aboard? likely. Offensively there seems to be improvement in the last three years, but defense and special teams seem to have regressed. Splitting hairs, but I disagree that the situation was impossible when he hired in. RR has handled his departure with class, for sure, and I respect that. I won't miss his coaching @ UofM though. Two plays of the Gator Bowl comes to mind: First, Denard throws a WR screen to one side of the field. Goes for nothing. Next play, WR screen to other side. Goes for nothing. I won't miss that.

My saying that he covers other sports gives him way too much credit. Drew Sharp makes me long for the glory days of Rob Parker. One of many things I dislike Parker for: Channel 2/4/7 late night sports edition, Parker would always cite his "moles" in giving some key insider information about a Detroit sports team. First couple of times I watched, I actually believed his "moles" were credible. Later I realized his moles were probably the guys that hung around his barbershop. |
| 2 years 23 weeks ago | Drew Sharp |
hello?? Worst thing about Sharp is that he brings nothing to the table on any of the sports he covers. |
| 2 years 23 weeks ago | Call me Crazy |
Nobody should be bragging about finishing 44th in s.o.s. I beg for research showing another year where the big ten champ (or co-big ten champ) finished with 1) one loss & 2) one win vs. the top 25. MSU is a good team that got a lot of help in 2010 from 1) not playing OSU 2) A top heavy conference (see #1) with a lot of mediocre teams after that. Maybe they would've been a BCS team if 1) They could win a bowl game w/ MD and 2) They hadn't looked mediocre against teams worse than them. MD coach of the year? Seems to be more based on on emotional sentiment regarding his health issues. Not because he took a team, loaded w/ upperclassmen, a veteran QB, and beat one quality team. Most have really been a down year for the other D1 college football coaches. |
| 2 years 25 weeks ago | Solid points |
Especially 4 & 5. I guess I hadn't considered all the viewpoints, despite thinking that I had done so. As Michigan fans we should know that the media is not always unbiased and is likely be motivated by their own bottom line. |
| 2 years 25 weeks ago | Tragic, yes. |
Tragic for the young victims. Tragic for the players having to try to concentrate on playing football and winning games. Kelly deserves no sympathy, as well as his employer. His (Their) actions or non-actions have consequences. |
| 2 years 27 weeks ago | Rotel |
I had no idea wtf Rotel was before BTN showered us with those commercials over and over again. I also agree with giving the BTN time to get their shit together. The announcers are average @ best but at least we don't have to hear a bunch of crap about the SEC. Good to see that they gave us a little eye candy. My guess is one day soon she will be too good for the BTN. *Tear* |
| 2 years 27 weeks ago | D.A |
I gotta believe it was between Tennessee and MSU here, which is fine. Going to Tenn., I gotta believe they made him an $offer$ he couldn't refuse. Their program is on a total decline, they lose players to jail convictions like UofM loses players to injuries/transfers. I wish him the best of luck. IMO, he was no where near a must have recruit for RR. I am thinking he should probably redshirt his freshmen year. More likely he will be a third string WR and see very limited minutes. I stated on a previous thread that there was a lot of hype for him during his junior year but very little his senior year. I know his HS team struggled, but last year the hype seemed that D.A was going to be one of the higher ranked HS WR recruits in the country. Next. |
| 2 years 27 weeks ago | Tom VH |
I think Tom VH gave us subtle hints the month leading up to Dee Hart that led most of the community to believe he was coming. I haven't seen anything from VH (about Arnett) that sounds hopefull. It seems like we weren't even on Arnett's radar 4 weeks ago. Conventional wisdom says we can't steal him in the last week or 2 prior to his announcement. I gotta believe that with this offense, we should have no problem attracting 4+ star WRs. If Arnett goes elsewhere, hopefully not to MSU, then we move on. Is it just me, I thought I've heard more more buzz about Arnett as Junior than as a Senior? |
| 2 years 27 weeks ago | Food for thought |
With our FG kicking? I don't think they needed a full yard. Their read option was killing us, thats what Zook should have ran on 4th down. Let Illinois take the chance of us getting 25 more yards and then makeing a 40 yd FG in less than a minute. |
| 2 years 27 weeks ago | And.... |
Zook making his trademark bad decision and punting 4th and very short. He potentially lost the game on that call. |
| 2 years 27 weeks ago | Avant |
Respectually, there is no Jason Avant on this team. He simply did not drop passes (remember NW catch). It was clear to me during his junior year that the NFL would be calling. Unless Jr. steps it up big time and quickly, I don't think he's NFL material. That being said, I will be thrilled if he turns out to be a good to great college WR.
Edit: meant to reply to comment comparing Jr to Avant and Roy to Braylon. Sorry. |
| 2 years 32 weeks ago | Don't show it |
I was screaming like ya'll about too many 3 man rushes. A few times it worked out alright. Thinking about it rationally, is dropping 7 guys so much worse than dropping 8 guys in coverage? Would that really cause that coverage to be much more poorer? I guess I wait like everyone else for more analysis based on defensive coverage vs. outcome of the play. I worry that MSU TEs will kill us if we rush 3 guys as much as we did against IU. Cousins will throw at least one horrible INT based on his first five games. My biggest issue was that when we rushed 3 guys, we showed it with little movement pre-snap. When we blitzed from the corner, My grandma could have read it as the QB. We flat out need to show something else, something better, and more variety on defense to beat MSU. Or Denard will need to totally win the game himself on offense. I am hoping he gets a little help this week. |
| 2 years 33 weeks ago | Help? |
Anyone know of a bar in Sheby Twp, Macomb, Utica area that will certainly be showing the M game? If I stay home, my wife will interrupt the game often with mindless chatter. Help me! Also who picked out the USA attire for the Ryder Cup? We should get negative points for that alone. |

Gameday being @ Auburn only means there are no really good games between ranked teams today. I would have had them go to ASU, imo. Glad they didn't go to MSU, that would have fed lil bro's ego. My guess is that if everything else is even, they will pick a southern school to be at, maybe for the ladies. I can't blame them for that.
|
| 2 years 36 weeks ago | the coaching |
We won this game by more than I could have imagined in the week leading up. I can't count all the 3rd and 1s that Denard would sneak up the middle for 2 or 3. Also, he converted a couple of 3rd and longs on improvised QB draw type plays. I think Denard will show off his arm next week. We will kill ND if they give use single coverage on our WRs. The wind was clearly affecting UConn's passing game but both teams had to fight that. Their WRs dropped 3 or 4 (as noted in the threads). I thought their QB played poorly, he threw well off target probably 4 or 5 times. He should have been picked off @ the end, i think his throw hit Talbott right in the face mask. I would give the coaches high marks for play calling with 2 small exceptions. I didn't like the field goal call when we were 4th and medium, into the wind, from +40 yards. The guys in my section were screaming for them to go for it, and I agreed. IMO, I also thought we rushed 3 guys too many times. Most of their bigger pass plays seemed to happen under this scenario. Small potatoes though. |
| 2 years 39 weeks ago | not good |
Can someone sell me on Michigan being a .500 basketball team this year? I am thinking 12 wins and that kills me. Losing our best 2 players last year, the only two guys that were locks to score more than 10 or 12 points a game. The recruiting does not seem to be getting any better as each year passes. We will never be a tourney team if we are competing with MAC teams for guys. Sorry to be sour, I am looking for optimism but having a difficult time. |
| 2 years 40 weeks ago | eyes? |
What do any of these three guys know about having good vision? In a dream of mine, these three clowns would go kick Inge's ass. Then Inge would return all of that money we are paying him to hit .230 every season. |

Neg me. I deserve it. I still love Woodley though. Crable was also a man among boys.

| 2 years 46 weeks ago | Is it just me? |
I see the comparisons to Graham for this kid.....Brian noted that he thought Graham was the best DL guy he's seen @ UM. What about Woodley? I don't think Graham is a bad comparison here. I thought Woodley was better than Graham, unless you consider Woodley a OLB/Hybrid, in which case I would agree with Brian. Food for thought. Woodley chasing down JRinger was one of the best plays I've seen a Michigan player make in 20 years. Not saying Woodley was better just cause of that play, I am just noting his awesomeness. |
| 2 years 46 weeks ago | Remember |
Sears played against Michigan last year, if I recall. I think he did some kick or punt returning as well, not sure which one. |
| 2 years 46 weeks ago | This Novice Says |
Our backline was not good and prone to many lapses. For 2014, if we put out a below average backline, we will once again get no farther than group of 16. I think 2010 would/could/should have been a dream scenario for the US. England was the toughest group play opponent. We played Ghana in the round of 16, I can think of only a small handful of teams that I would rather have played here. Pretty sure Ghana's only goals had been on penalty kicks @ this point. I thought both of their goals were on defensive lapses. Had we beaten Ghana we would have gotten Uruguay. Again, almost ideal, not stronger powerhouses like Argentina/Portugal/Brazil/Netherlands/Germany. The USA team has to be kicking themselves. I agree with the other poster here who said that the US would be better off switching coaches for the next time around. I think Bradley did some good things but we might need another coach to take us to the next round. If we consider that the US finished 9th-16th, I would say this is probably close to what we were ranked in the world heading into World Cup play. So, I think we justified our ranking or thereabouts. |
| 2 years 46 weeks ago | In that Case |
Soccer will never be a major sport in this country. The officiating is moving progressively downward toward boxing type quality. The major sports expect more from officiating in the way of reforming how the game is called. FIFA seems to offer nothing to improve how the game is called. |

| 2 years 47 weeks ago | He Had to Go |
Manny had to go, the team wasn't going to help his draft status. As someone above stated, his draft status seemed to slip already year to year in college.Too bad for fans and the team, and for Manny himself going undrafted. The undrafted thing doesn't surprise me, he wasn't as consistant as I would have wished and I don't think he was a good defender by any means. He had good offensive skills, but his talent wasn't going to blow anyone away. Best hope is that he develops more (big ?), and maybe catches on with an NBA team a few years down the road, taking a final roster spot. |
| 2 years 47 weeks ago | Thanks Father |
I was originally trying (poorly it seems) to note the correlation between his attitude on the field and his criminal behavior off the field. My guess is that he was disciplined a few times by the coaching staff that didn't get leaked to the media. I didn't intend to say that well, he got burnt by ND WR's, so I am happy he is going to jail. I meant that the ND game was a game that I remembered where he displayed very questionable character on the field. Frankly If I didn't want to get negged a bunch of times, I would just post all the time about how great Bo was....So neg on. |

I know this is a Big Red blog, but this is one sided piece of garbage. Just cause Nebraska is joining the Big 10, we don't have to post the filth from its fans. Why Nebraska Left: Everything You Need to Know? My mistake is thinking that this was going to be fair, balanced, or informative. Why don't we start posting stories from MSU blogs or Al Qaeda? |

| 2 years 47 weeks ago | vs. England |
I thought we thoroughly got outplayed by England. As much as we got screwed by the soccer zebras vs. Slovenia, we should have gotten no points vs. the Brits. If we can't beat Algeria, we don't deserve to advance. First 1.5 games, we showed no offense and had multiple defensive lapses. I think the USA as a whole is becoming more competitive in men's soccer, but we might not be a top 16 team for 4 more years. |
| 2 years 47 weeks ago | God Awful |
Denard looked quite awful last year dropping back to throw. His improvements in the spring have been stated frequently but I am not sure it's enough. How much can one really improve over the spring in this area? Sure he's more of a threat with his feet. No brainer there. Tate is still more well rounded and should get the nod originally. Hopefully Denard gets in some of the non-conf games. I still agree with the wide-spoken theory that says if you have 2 prospective qb's, you don't really have 1 good one. |

Putting myself in the recruits shoes, I would question going to Michigan too if the coaches might not be there in one year. I think this a very reasonable concern for a kid and I think we can squash it with some early Ws. Honestly if he wants to go to state and win 7 games and get mashed in a bowl game, let him. |
| 2 years 47 weeks ago | Not Good |
I like the diary's optimism. Vincent Smith promises to be good? I would say he showed promise last season @ most. I wouldn't agree that UConn is an automatic W. I am thinking they will win 7-9 games this year. You tried and that's good, but you didn't try to prove your points with any sustainment. |
| 2 years 48 weeks ago | My Fave |
I love the WR screens on 3rd and 9 when we were losing last year. It reminds me of the FB dive plays my high school would run on 3rd and long. I am continuing to have patience for RR's system however, I do miss the deep ball off the playaction. If we win 8 games next year, I will no longer complain about the 15 WR screens per game. I know, I know, its a text book spread play- so does our opposition. |
| 2 years 48 weeks ago | 4 Star |
Gotta get to good bowl games to get 4 Star guys to come our way. Its even more cliche to say that we gotta get more of the top players in the state as well. Makes me nervous when guys we ink have MAC offers. |
| 2 years 48 weeks ago | It All Starts With |
UCONN. I know its the 1st game of the year. If that game goes very poorly, i.e. a bad loss, the win ceiling is probably 5, most 6 games. Thats my own thinking. I figure Uconn is probably a 8 win team in whatever pink panties conference they play in. Nervous optimism continues... |
| 2 years 48 weeks ago | Drop Off |
Big 12 has dropped to the strength level of the ACC for football. You can't lose a solid to good program like Nebraska and claim there was no dropoff. Colorado has been a nonfactor since Kordell. True point about the quality of basketball improving across Big 12. Anyone have the year of the last time either Col or Neb made the field of 64? |

| 2 years 48 weeks ago | Yes but No |
For all Nebraska offers on the football side, they offer nothing for basketball. I am sure they bring the academics and all that jazz. Just saying, that their basketball program is rivaled by high school teams across Canada. |
