Federal court might have to abstain at this point since there is a pending state court matter on the same issue, but not sure I can think of a case where the plaintiff sued first in state court and then later in federal court while the state matter remained pending.
It's fair to defend a friend, and I respect you for it. But in fairness, he didn't get "caught up" in anything. He decided to write articles that tarred Michigan for really petty, stupid things. Whatever blowback has come from that was fully earned by what he did, and he should have seen it coming.
The firm for sure anticipated this. No doubt the papers were fully drafted before the announcement was made. Now it's a matter of dropping in the language and revising language in the motion as needed to address the reasoning given by the conference. It could take an hour or two but I'd be shocked if this isn't on file by 9 p.m. tonight. It needs to be in far enough in advance to reasonably expect a ruling before kickoff tomorrow.
Interesting, and thanks both for the clarification. It does seem like the B1G in various ways is intentionally making it harder to succeed than the other power conferences (see also, e.g., https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/bigten/2015/07/31/big-ten-schedule-nine-league-games-no-fcs-teams-2016/30938987/). While I understand the desire to appear to be the "tough" conference, I agree with the sentiment reflected in the OP that the conference might be doing itself a disservice by beating itself up more prior the post-season. I'm all for arguing for a rule (e.g., nine conference games, or no FCS opponents) that applies to all conferences, but question the wisdom of being a "leader" on this issue when no one else is interested in following.
Related question, if anyone knows: is there a reason we play Wisconsin every year? I had assumed they would shuffle interdivisional games, and that seems to be the case with most of the teams in the west - including Minnesota, whom I think of as more of a traditional M rival - but Wisconsin seems to be a permanent engagement.
^^^ this. Don't mind reading/scrolling past ads, but they shouldn't interfere with functionality -- you shouldn't have to interact with an ad in order to obtain access to the navigation menu. That has to be a web design error; or if it's intentional, it is a truly terrible user-interface design decision.
Happy Thanksgiving all! I used some of the free time this weekend to craft a couple of new cocktail recipes in honor of The Game - will post before kickoff tomorrow!
This is our time indeed. I haven't been as excited for this game since 2003, when I came back from law school for the weekend just to go to The Game. Watched Chris Perry torch the Buckeyes. You could feel the win coming in the air. Let's go do this!
This is a great cause, has already beyond doubled the goal in one day, and reflects well on our values - I would propose that the post continue to be bumped to the top to see how far we can take this by the deadline.
and at one level I totally agree with you. But then again, bad journalism is bad wherever it may be published, and it is nice to see that bad journalism that flees one jurisdiction finds no refuge in another.
I realize this thread is about current players but recruiting threads have gone on to the next page and I can't start a new thread and thought this was share-worthy:
TE Chris Clark spoke with Jim Harbaugh yesterday said Harbaugh told him Michigan will be tight end U and Clark can be a leader of the class
- They always manage to make the conversation about themselves.
- Not every story a narcissist tells is one of victory. But even in the stories of tragedy or failure, there's an air of entitlement and victimization.
@Balas_Wolverine: Recruits are lining up saying they're planning visits to Michigan at the mention of Jim Harbaugh. #suddenimpact #JimHarbaugh #HeComin
I hope we get to beat them while they're wearing these... some debate over whether it's real but multiple posters at the MSU board claim to have confirmed.
I don't believe any public statement at this point. Any chance Ross is recruiting for Mich.? He buys us a stadium but then tries to take JH away? Doesn't make sense. Nor does the fact that he's flying to see JH, and not the other way around. Other interesting details from the ESPN article: A Dolphins spokesperson claimed to be unaware of any meeting, and JH showed no interest in Dolphins job until the other day (after presumably thinking about his options all season). Could Ross be saying, come to UM and here's what I'll do for you?
Even the best teams don't win every play. So if you let your opponent hang around, you're inviting a loss, even if you're a "better" team in some abstract, ultimately meaningless sense. All they have to do is have one play go their way -- an interception, a big run, a kick return. I'm sure someone has done a statistical analysis of this somewhere, but I'd be surprised if there are a lot of undefeated teams with tiny average margins of victory. The only way to minimize the x-factor -- the risk of a "fluke" loss -- is to build a commanding lead and keep it. A team that wants to be dominant can only afford a few close games a season.
From 11/23/2003 N.Y. Times sports section (from our last win over OSU):
[Chris Perry] was not posturing when he left the game for a few plays in the first half with the injuries. Perry said the Buckeyes were trying to harm him by twisting and pulling him during tackles. "Watch the tape," Perry said. "They do a little extra."

It absolutely is outrageous sandbagging but in federal court there will be someone to answer the phone on a TRO no matter when it is filed.
Outstanding. Logged in to upvote.

Well done, and thank you. And to Brian, if you're reading, we appreciate you.
How is this not a posbang thread?

This is amazing. Wish I could make it to the game.
Unless we get a collection going for a suicide-intervention team to stand by
