"The University of Illinois is also in turmoil. The university sports an Interim Chancellor, an Interim Athletic Director, and an Interim Football Coach; the game will be played at Soldier Field, making this an Illini Interim Home Game."

I usually just marinate for an hour or so then toss on the grill. Italian salad dressing works well, or soy sauce with some sugar, garlic, pepper, and maybe a bit of ginger. The salt in the marinade has the same effect as brining and helps keep the chicken moist as long as you don't overcook it.

Penn State plays well at home and like crap on the road. They were undefeated at home this year until Michigan beat them, and they have only one win on the road, a one point win at Maryland.

It's the Harbaugh effect. Harbaugh comes in and has the team turned around and highly ranked in his first year. Now half of college football seems to want to replicate that move. Of course these schools will soon figure out that there are very few coaches even close to Harbaugh's abilities, and most of those aren't leaving their current jobs.

If he wants it. Unless he's been incredibly stupid with his money, he's set for life financially. His dream job is in his past. I'm close in age to him (he's 57), and if I were in a position like his, I'd have a house on a lake, do a bit of consulting and media work part time, travel, and enjoy time with my wife and family. A stressful 60-80 hour / week job is not what I would be looking for.

That's some hilariously bad reasoning, and really funny reading it after Harbaugh & co ran circles around Franklin today.

I couldn't get the site to open earlier, so I went to BSD's thread on the 4th quarter. Even the PSU fans realized Michigan was getting screwed by the refs:

That is where he came from. He was Oklahoma's OC before getting the job at IU.

Don't poke the gods. But, I am glad you brought up Pipkins, because most of the comments bemoaning the DL injuries forget about him.

I attribute some of the offsides calls, to what others have mentioned up-thread: The IU OLine starting a fraction of a second before the ball was snapped. This led Michigan players to trying to anticipate, rather than waiting for the ball to be snapped.

As True Blue Grit mentioned above, the Fitz was poorly designed so most likely would have suffered the same fate as its sister ship:
"Although there has never been a definitive conclusion reached on the cause of the wreck, and there were clearly a number of factors which contributed to it. But I believe based on all I've read that the ship was structurally weak compared to other similar ships. This was partly due to the design and partly the questionable way the hull was welded together. Although it could survive most Great Lakes storms, the one that night was just too much for it. Interestingly, the Fitz's sister ship was taken out of service only 5 years after this, and scrapped some 8 years later. Normally, these fresh water ships last many more years than that. "

A Husker fan posted video of the play from his cell phone in his comments on CornNation:
It was a judgment call that could have gone either way. I don't think this is a play to bitch about the officiating on.

The Rutgers Athletic Department is a mess. They need a new athletic director, football, and basketball coaches to start if they want any kind of success or credibility.

What an incredible young man, and that's even aside from what he does on the football field. Sadly, "we ain't come here to play school" is a common attitude of many of the college football players I've encountered through the years. The kind of effort he puts into his academic career places him among the elite.

Before the season started, Husker fans were oddly optimistic, willing to ignore Riley's past record and focus on any positive attribute they could find (mostly that Riley was a nice guy) to convince themselves they were better off with Riley than Pellini.
The bloom is off the rose:
And oh, by the way, since we are looking back, Mike Riley has only won THREE of his last NINETEEN conference games. And another new record: In over 125 years of football, Nebraska had NEVER lost six games before November 1st. Until now.

I really look forward to reading this book. It's really quite remarkable to have one individual who worked so clasely with the coaches and players for so many years.

Easterbrook is just another lazy snob. He thinks he's smarter than everyone else, so he can size up a situation without troubling himself to worry about facts or evidence. The hoi polloi fawn over a guy who buys his pants at Walmart. But not Gregg Easterbrook. He's too erudite and sophisticated for that.

Good point. I was going to bring up something similar. What was the cause of death in each of these cases? Without looking at the cause of death we might be left with something like cancelling homecoming parades because at least 4 people have died this year watching one.

I'm not so sure there's something wrong with people who wouldn't do an activity themselves or allow their children but who enjoy being spectators. How many circus acts would exist? My youngest daughter participated in gymnastics as a pre-schooler. I really would not have wanted her to be a competitive gymnast in her teens or later. There are just too many injuries. As long as the participants (and parents if under 18) are aware of the risks, it's legal, sanctioned, and governed by rules, coaches and officials trying to minimize injuries, I don't see a problem. I wouldn't want to see my kids pole vaulting, racing motocross, cliff diving or any number of other activities that seem too dangerous to me, but I have no problem watching and enjoying others competing in events like these.

Tiller did take Purdue to 9-3 one year--still not great. It seems every 10-20 years a coach has Purdue where they're pretty decent, Jack Mollenkopf in the 1960s, Jim Young in the late 70s, and Tiller in the late 90s. Maybe they're due for another 8 or 9 win season.
