I'm not a particularly…

I'm not a particularly optimistic person (nor am I super pessimistic), but that potential roster is an easy tourney team IMO.

Am I crazy/have a delusional…

Am I crazy/have a delusional perception of Michigan basketball's status?  Don't get me wrong, I know football will always be king here and by a pretty big amount.  But I also don't think basketball is an afterthought here.  Reading some of the reaction from non-Michigan fans, they make it seem like May chose Michigan to hide out in a land of no expectations and anonymity.  One Louisville fan rationalized "well May doesn't have to worry about NC expectations at Michigan, just win 20 games and you are ok".  Has Michigan not made 2 title games in the past 11 years?  Did Michigan not just fire a coach - a legacy star player of yesteryear no less, just 2 seasons after a Sweet 16 appearance?

Basketball will never be as big here as it is at Louisville, but I still see the Michigan job as a top 20 job, and I still see the minimum expectations for the program being to be a top half of the conference team that makes the tourney more often than not with a few deep runs a decade.  I still see a fanbase that cares a hell of a lot about their basketball team, especially when football season is over.  But maybe I'm the delusional one.

Anyways, amazing hire.  Glad May bought into the program and school.  Looking forward to seeing how he turns this around!

Trying not to rush to…

Trying not to rush to overreaction without letting things play out but my first thought is that it doesn't sit right with me either.  I was super supportive of JH leaving if that's what he wanted to do, and Minter leaving because I know his goal was always the NFL but this seems like a bridge too far.  How many OSU assistants did Urban swipe when he took the Jaguars job?

We'll see how it plays out but the rumors floating around about players not being thrilled at this move has me worried.

Based on reports tonight…

Based on reports tonight Moore has the job. The only reason they can’t announce it tonight is because they are required by state law to list the job posting for at least 7 days before making a hire. Moore is already assembling his staff.

Let’s keep this thing going…

Let’s keep this thing going Coach Moore! You are now a Michigan Man in my book

And all that NFL discussion…

And all that NFL discussion started after Warde cut his pay after a weird COVID season. It’s clear that their relationship is poor as it took Santa Ono coming in over the top to get JH’s last extension signed. And while I could be reading too much into it their body language at the championship rally was awkward at best.

But it’s true that it’s likely Harbaugh was always going to leave at some point. People have been bracing for it since the day he was hired. Maybe there was nothing he could do. Maybe winning the title gave him the perfect opportunity to leave. But I also don’t think his relationship with Warde helped at all. Very possible the moves Warde made in 2020 put him in a frame of mind that he needed to start considering his next career move, a process that ended today.

No one really knows what went on, but I’m  not going to defend Warde based on the things I believe to be true.

Took a job with HOF caliber…

Took a job with HOF caliber coaches in his 2 biggest sports and now he has none.  Hopefully Moore is a HOF coach

Harbaugh being back greatly…

Harbaugh being back greatly increases the chances Minter is back I think.  There's a chance that a long term commitment to Michigan might make Minter explore NFL DC opportunities independent of Jim I suppose, but he might also stick around one more year knowing he's going to have an elite returning defense.

Regardless, I'm taking JH back any day of the week, warts and all.

It's funny, not that the…

It's funny, not that the situations are the same but the Astros, Patriots and Michigan all got embroiled in cheating scandals that everyone said was giving them a significant competitive advantage and in all 3 cases, their play did not drop off at all after the "scandal".  2 of the teams (Patriots and Michigan) won a title the actual year of the scandal and the Astros have made the playoffs in 4 straight years since the scandal, winning a World Series and losing another.

The Chargers already have a…

The Chargers already have a Herbert so they won't need ours.

I mean he does have a…

I mean he does have a current job as a DC where he is very highly regarded. If Jim for some reason doesn’t hire him he can stay at UM for another year.

Going wherever Jim Harbaugh…

Going wherever Jim Harbaugh goes would be my guess but it’s a guess I hope I’m wrong on (unless Jim stays!)

For one I am thrilled that…

For one I am thrilled that Michigan was able to win a title before expanding to the 12 team format.  Granted, Michigan was simply the best team this year and they proved it but adding 1-2 extra rounds of playoffs lessens the chances that the best team ultimately wins.

Also to a team that has a…

Also to a team that has a short term incumbent QB that will give JJ time to develop.  I don't necessarily think he needs a ton of time to develop but after watching Jordan Love start to thrive after sitting behind Rodgers, I'm kind of coming around to the old school concept that QBs don't need to be forced into starting as a rookie and can benefit from learning the offense and getting acclimated to the speed of the NFL game.

But to be clear if he goes somewhere without that situation I'm confident JJ can succeed from day 1.

I enjoy both of tier vlogs…

I enjoy both of tier vlogs equally  I love how Mikey always includes his alarm going off with the NFL draft countdown on it. Just reminds me of how much hard work and effort he put in to be in this position.

hopefully Roman comes out with his soon

Honestly this will be a big…

Honestly this will be a big test of my theory that Ryan Day is a shit coach and can’t win no matter how much talent he has.  I’m pretty confident in that theory so I’m really enjoying Buckeye fans getting their hopes up.

In addition, this gives me great joy to see how much money they are spending in response to their arch rivals winning a title. They are down bad…considering the gigantic superiority complex they had until recently it is very fulfilling to see them scrambling to turn the tides again.

Strange, I was just looking…

Strange, I was just looking at the Big Ten standings because I've largely ignored CBB so far this year.  Michigan is 4-4 at home this year.  No other Big Ten team has less than 8 home wins so far and no other team has more than 2 home losses this year.

Michigan has had significant…

Michigan has had significant trouble getting non-grad transfers admitted, its not exactly breaking news as Michigan had similar (but not identical) issues with TSJ the year before.  Martelli even called the whole process "a leap of faith" when he was asked after Love de-committed.  By the time Love de-committed and transferred to Arizona the pool of potential impact transfers was thinned significantly.  So much so that Michigan is not using all their scholarships this season and is not surprisingly not a good team so far this year.

Burnett?  Grad Transfer

Trey Jackson? Grad Transfer

Nkamhoua? Grad Transfer

Llewellyn? Grad Transfer

Caleb Love? Not Grad Transfer

Terrance Shannon Jr? Not Grad Transfer

They have gotten non-grad transfers admitted before (I believe Chaundee wasn't a grad transfer) but there's enough evidence out there to suggest that its a risky proposition at Michigan.

I sometimes wonder if Juwan…

I sometimes wonder if Juwan knew this season would suck based on departures and incoming portal guys and didn't replace his assistants because he knew he'd probably get that one chance to replace his staff before he was fired, so basically it bought him another year.  Howard has a borderline 5 star coming in next year in Rooths and can go portal hunting again and maybe not spend so much time going after guys who will have trouble getting in unlike the last 2 years.

That was the last play of…

That was the last play of the 1st quarter

Not only that but Harbaugh's…

Not only that but Harbaugh's ability to do his job is potentially hampered by annual flirtations with the NFL.  An amazing coaching job plus great development and buy in from a special group of players hasn't allowed it to affect his performance yet, and I do think some of what they've done to build a title team despite lacking in composite talent is replicable but you can't tell me that they've found a way to completely dismiss the relationship between recruiting talent and success on the field.  It's pretty unprecedented for Michigan to have the type of success they've had and see virtually zero uptick in recruiting classes and I find it hard to believe that would still be the case if Harbaugh wasn't annually flirting with the NFL.

It's frustrating but I'm not angry at Harbaugh one bit.  At the end of the day this is a business and his employer almost fired him after one bad season during a strange fake feeling COVID season.  If he feels the best move for him is to go to the NFL, I don't blame him at all.

It could definitely be me…

It could definitely be me reading into things but despite what Warde said at the championship rally, the body language between him and Harbaugh looked awkward at best.

Harbaugh betting odds on…

Harbaugh betting odds on Draftkings had Harbaugh at -350 to not be coaching an NFL team next year 2 days ago (Jan 13) after climbing for a few days.  Over the past couple of hours that line has dropped to -130.  It's still the favorite according to them, but definitely dropped quite a bit.

Same, I'm kind of surprised…

Same, I'm kind of surprised about this.  I guess its like they say "those who stay will be repeat champions"

It’s fine to be bitter…

It’s fine to be bitter. Those assholes controlled the narrative in order to get clicks and for a less mentally strong team it could have derailed their season. Just because we survived doesn’t mean what they did was right. Letting them off the hook only emboldens them to continue to craft narratives that benefit their news organization.

But I’m not letting the bitterness in any way damper the enjoyment of what Michigan accomplished.

It’s insane how often the …

It’s insane how often the “insiders” are blatantly wrong and people still hang on their every word as gospel. People legit pay money for their “intel”. Not ripping on you if you pay for one of those sites, just for the insiders having a pay model that forces them to throw any piece of information out there without vetting any of it to justify their premium services.

It's a great thought but if…

It's a great thought but if the Chargers have interest in Harbaugh I doubt he's anything but their top target.

That was probably never…

That was probably never going to be reasonable though since he has to declare by Monday and it seems like Harbaugh was always gonna at least flirt with the NFL whether its to seriously consider leaving or to help him in leverage with a UM contract.

JJ could improve his draft…

JJ could improve his draft stock by coming back, but the potential rise is not worth the risk IMO.  Right now NFL draft consensus mocks have him around 22nd overall (this takes consensus from dozens of mock drafts posted online).  If he's a safe 1st, it would make no sense to come back unless he thought they could win another natty and maybe raise his profile to a top 10 pick.  But his stock could also drop significantly, especially if he suffered an injury.  Just not worth it.  He won the title, he's an Ann Arbor legend and hes pretty likely to be a 1st round pick.

The last couple of days I was sort of trying to put blinders on and only listen to people who said he might come back but if you look at it realistically it just doesnt make sense IMO.

Harbaugh will be drafting me…

Harbaugh will be drafting me 5th overall for the Chargers

Today was about Team 144.  JJ isn't going take the attention away from the celebration of the team by announcing anything.

FWIW I saw a tweet that the betting odds for what NFL team Harbaugh is coaching next year shifted from Chargers as the favorites to "Not coaching for an NFL team" over the past day or so

Yes, its been reported that the parade will happen regardless of weather conditions.

I'm kind of worried about…

I'm kind of worried about Thaw.  His comments on Twitter when announcing entering the transfer portal made it seem like he's still really hard on himself for the play.  I hope he is able to talk to someone who can help him work through processing that.  Returners occasionally fumble the ball, it happens...it happened earlier that game with a teammate.  All players make mistakes from time to time.. even Blake Corum makes mistakes.  Can't beat himself up over this and I hope he can learn to frame the play in a positive way as Harbaugh has.

As a Bears fan my nightmare…

As a Bears fan my nightmare was that the Packers would take him when Love was struggling earlier in the year.  The good news/bad news is that Love improved and I doubt they will be looking to take a QB.  But of course the Packers will spend exactly 0 years in the QB wilderness the Bears have been in since forever.

I agree but it gives me…

I agree but it gives me bigger chills when they cut the music and the crowd sings the rest. The do that in Indy but don’t think they did it in the Rose Bowl or Houston

Man I feel bad for him…

Man I feel bad for him reading his comments on twitter.  He's taking that play really really hard and really beating himself up about it. I hope he can forgive himself or realize that there's nothing to forgive because everyone on that field makes mistakes and its how you recover from the mistakes that is important.  He recovered beautifully and should be proud of himself.

Best of luck to Jake moving forward

I think it really depends on…

I think it really depends on his scouting grade. It seems to be high but what if scouts are giving him late 2nd round grade? With Corum and potentially Edwards not to mention Harbaugh potentially gone, it’s possible they open up the offense more and give him more room to shine as a passing QB. I don’t think I would advise going away from what has worked but just saying that’s a scenario where he might come back

definitley think it’s much more likely he goes for the reasons you mentioned

2 takeaways from watching…

2 takeaways from watching that:

1) I want to run through a wall for Harbaugh

2) JJ’s comments at first sort of didn’t seem promising for him to return, then he kind of caught himself and went back into non-committal speak. Then he kind of went into saying something about never leaving us. I think he’s genuinely torn. Of course he’s not gonna know for sure until he gets advice from scouts etc

I have to say after watching…

I have to say after watching that however many times, props to Pennix. He just threw a backbreaking INT, looked to be hurting badly and still managed to run all the way down the field and be there when Mikey was tackled. Obviously the best thing was the INT that sealed our title but couldn’t help but notice the effort there

I kind of wish there were snowflakes threads.  I want to post in the offense snowflakes thread about my disappointment that JJ didnt sit in the 4th quarter and make out with his girlfriend.

God I love this.  I LOVE IT

WHO ARE THE NATIONAL CHAMPS?…

WHO ARE THE NATIONAL CHAMPS?

IS IT GEORGIA?  NO

IS IT ALABAMA?  HELL NO

IS IT STUPID ASS OHIO STATE?  GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE

ITS MICHIGAN! BET!

Doesn't ESPN app have a…

Doesn't ESPN app have a broadcast where the local radio is synced up with the broadcast feed?  I may go with that and just cast to my TV.  I think it only requires an ESPN subscription, not ESPN+ but I could be wrong.

That said, as much as I love the local guys, I also like the big game feel of having the main announcers calling it so might go back and forth.

Can’t say that I’ve ever had…

Can’t say that I’ve ever had a conflict in a championship game. The only sport that I have multiple teams that I root for is college basketball and those 3 teams - Michigan, DePaul and Dayton in that order are highly unlikely to ever meet in any kind of championship match. Heck neither of those 3 schools have ever played each other in any sort of match since I’ve been a fan of them.  If it ever happened it would be very clear where my loyalties lie - Michigan and I wouldn’t even feel bad rooting against the other school that I avidly follow and root for.

It’s crazy especially…

It’s crazy especially knowing that the decline in his performance was going to get scrutinized and fans/analysts/anonymous coaches were going to use those performances to criticize UM and downplay how good they were.

I’ve heard whispers that he…

I’ve heard whispers that he was very very questionable heading into the Maryland game but I didn’t realize he almost didn’t come back out for the second half. What a warrior to fight through that not only in the MD game but the second half of the PSU game. Imagine getting that banged up in the middle of a gauntlet stretch of your 4 hardest games of the year and being able to play through it enough to win all of the games.  And on top of it playing knowing that his performance was going to suffer, his numbers were going to fall along with potentially his draft stock, and haters were going to openly question him and the UM team due to him not being as great as he was earlier in the year.

And huge credit to the coaching staff to design game plans to work around the injury.  This group is easily the best “team” that I’ve ever had the pleasure of rooting for

Not gonna lie, I enjoyed the…

Not gonna lie, I enjoyed the hell out of that thread. Those nutjobs are so broken. All they can resort to is delusional “but they cheated!!” remarks and wet dreams of the “hammer” coming down on Michigan. Great content.

7/10. We can definitely lose this but there are enough advantages for Michigan that I feel fairly confident. Will be nervous as hell on Monday night though.
