Hoke was top notch at this aspect of his job.

they had great size and athleticism which made them a great D. 7 footers have a way of erasing mistakes from teammates on D.
they underachieved on O. calipari's biggest mistake was not giving booker way more minutes than the twins. booker was easily the best shooter on that team; the one guy that could force the other team to spread the floor on D.

greek deepdish was my favorite pizza in ann arbor. also, loved going there after basketball games where frieder and players would often show up.

but don't ignore the guys he signed. top 50 guys every year. ya, i'm counting wagner as a top 50 guy.

JB has locked in several top 50 guys the past few years

go for the win against that bullpen reliever. the royals two best relievers were likely pitching the next two innings.

despite the early injuries the tigers are still on pace to win 100 games. yep, how horrible.
|1 week 3 days ago||maddon||
bats the pitcher 8th. pretty stupid. larussa did that too. stupid decision but still good managers.
|1 week 3 days ago||chamberlain||
i would DFA him and have an extra bat on the bench; preferably a lefty.
|1 week 3 days ago||nathan and soria||
are not cheap. and the as a free agent, the tigers did not have to give up any prospects to get nathan, who just came off of a unhittable season.
the tigers wanted to sign andrew miller this off season but couldn't justify paying basically 3 closers for well over $30mm for 2015; which is logical.
also, rondon should be just a few weeks away. hopefully, he deepens this bullpen.

The wings just need to replace their two best players of the past 15 years.

have the detroit area produce more top 50 kids; like they used to pre-2000.

i wasn't very optimistic until the williams kid cancelled his visit a day after setting it. i figured something was in the air and headed to UM. not to be though.

"i do like the coasts"...what a joke. michigan has more coastline than any of the continental united states. yet he says the state is a gloomy dump.
also unless things changed recently, most golf courses per capita and most boat licenses than any other state.
as far as summer activities go, few states have it as good as michigan.

as burke was going up for that shot, i was like no!!!!! hit hardaway, he is wide open at the top of the key. a jimmy chitwood moment indeed.

i am quite satisfied with the overall recruiting the past few years; especially if wagner is the real deal. the only ding i would give would be that we haven't recruited a top notch center after mcgary. that said, we will have a lot of depth there the next few years with doyle, wilson, teske and davis, so it wouldn't surprise me to see one of those guys blow up and become all big ten caliber.
this roster is set to contend for the BIG title (and more) for years to come.
it would also help if the state of michigan would produce more top 50 recruits. it would make JB's recruiting job much easier.

|5 weeks 10 hours ago||dawkins and maar||
i think maar can develop into a PG. and dawkins can certainly develop into any of the 2-4 positions. his handle improved a lot during the year; much like irvin.
|5 weeks 10 hours ago||agree||
it seems way too early to offer what appears to be a long-term project. not sure what the hurry is. why not try to land one of the top centers first.

it was sam vincent's team a couple years later that won the state title with robert henderson.

I saw magic play HS ball as a kid - 1977ish. He played C in the middle of a 2-3 zone on D and would often go coast-to-coast. He was 7'0" tall with that fro. That said, I think they had 2 or 3 other guys play Div I ball; including other 6'7'' and 6'8" guys on the front line.
That team won the state title when magic was a junior. interestingly enough, the next year, magic's team lost to Lansing Eastern (Jay Vincent's team) in the regionals. Eastern went on to win the state title. Pretty epic era of HS bball in the Lansing era then.

i don't think wagner came here to redshirt. he is likely not a four year player. i see him getting 10-15 min per game next year at the #4.
|6 weeks 14 hours ago||curious||
who would you have guard howard or rose with that 2013 team? fab 5 would crush them in the paint. and jimmy king could do an adequate job on burke; not shut him down but contain him.

incoming freshmen are much better than they were 20-30 years ago. but i think most of the ncaa champions of the 80s would beat the champions of recent years.
imo, those jordan teams, ewing teams, even 89 UM team would consistently beat the best teams of today. even the fab 5 teams would crush the 2013 UM team that made the finals.
