tell me the last time the dodgers won a pennant????
and they always have a huge payroll. this year may finally end their streak of futility.
|10 hours 5 min ago||closers||
do you realize that nearly 2/3 of the closers on april 1 don't have that job anymore? closers are the toughest to get long-term consistency.
|10 hours 8 min ago||however||
mccann >>>>>>> avila. even has a stronger arm. given his at bats, avila is one of the worst hitting catchers in decades the past few years. and mccann will only improve at calling a game.
they better dump avila and put that $5M to use elsewhere.
|10 hours 12 min ago||winning is not impossible this year||
although improbable. what if the following happens:
1. verlander and sanchez pitch closer to 2013 levels
2. norris becomes a solid #3 SP down the stretch
3. simon and #5 SP don't impload. help from lobstein
4. cabrera comes back in a week or two and the tigers score runs at toronto or ny levels
5. wilson does well in the closer role
6. rondon figures it out and hardy continues to pitch well in set up role.
all these things are possible. if 2/3 of these pan out, detroit could make up 4-5 games on the field and make the playoffs. that would be something, especially if they were to face off against price and the blue jays in the wild card game.
|10 hours 23 min ago||toronto||
is my guess
|10 hours 25 min ago||miggy||
i would take him over the entire royal bullpen, especially the past 3-4 years.
|10 hours 29 min ago||agree||
how many different all stars has detroit had the past 10 years? i bet they could field all 8 positions plus a few pitchers too. is it really his fault that the pitchers couldn't field in 2006 or a solid benoit gives up the bomb against boston?
DD did his part and still leaves a team with a ton of talent for 2016.
|17 hours 12 min ago||me thinks||
you are thinking of his son, mel farr jr. or possibly mel gray jr?
|1 day 12 hours ago||seattle's ken griffeys||
hit back to back HRs. one of the greatest mlb father-son stories ever.
|2 days 17 hours ago||peppers||
is another woodson. he obviously is dangerous with the ball in his hands. that said, he can't be taking too many plays on offense. i would like to see him on every 3rd down on offense, if only as a decoy.
|4 days 9 hours ago||cespedes||
he's not the only FA out there. DD (or avila) will field a solid 8 next year and get some pitching help.
|4 days 9 hours ago||tigers starters||
are about 27th in the majors this year. i don't think it's crazy to think sanchez will improve on 4.60, Verlander on 4.80 and the #4 and #5 guys combining well over 5.00. norris and even lobstein would do better then that. that alone will mitigate the loss of price.
if the tigers sign a solid OF and front-end starter (both very likely with all the available cash), they will again be contenders. only the blue jays will have a better projected offense. plus they now have a few chips to trade.
and fulmer's stats at AA binghampton were better than all of the mets young studs when they were there; including degroom, sydegaard, matz, harvey, etc. he was a huge get for a rental.

Over $60M drops off the books for next year; price, cespedes, nathan, soria, davis, avila, simon.. assuming no cash was exchanged in these deals, illich even saves about $23M this year.
|4 days 10 hours ago||totally disagree||
with your assessment. the tigers traded 3 rentals for 6 prospects who all would grade in the tigers top 20, likely. 2-3 will provide pitching depth next year. 2 have a shot at top of the rotation guys in the near future. that's a lot of added depth for little $.
also, nearly $60M of payroll comes off the books for next year. plenty of $ to add a top end SP, OF and closer. cespedes may want to come back. these trades will make the tigers contenders again in 2016.
|4 days 16 hours ago||cespedes||
would be a great fit for the cubbies or giants too. both teams need to decide how serious they are in going for it.
|5 days 14 hours ago||norris||
will be fine. most consider him a future #1 or #2 starter. I will settle for a #4 next year.
|5 days 14 hours ago||yep||
i was there with my dad. got home really late. we even watched the yankings board their bus after. standing by yogi berra was surreal.
|5 days 15 hours ago||osu||
will need to schedule a cupcake to open future seasons to mitigate these off season issues.
|5 days 15 hours ago||hopefully||
norris becomes an immediate middle of rotation guy; boyd a situationaly lefty out of the pen. now trade cespede, soria, et al for prospects to rebuild the farm system.
nearly $60M in salary drops off the books in 2016, plenty of loot to get a front-end starter, closer and OF.
|1 week 15 hours ago||ring of honor||
i much prefer that. i have always been against retiring jerseys.
|2 weeks 13 hours ago||gaelic||
form of chicken
|2 weeks 13 hours ago||simon||
like may of the tiger pitchers, i think he needs to throw his fastball more and earlier in the count. most of the relievers too. they often fall behind then get torched on the hit me fastball.
i think jones needs to be fired. simon, soria and even joba could have benefited by throwing more fastballs.

is a way better defender

MD, sparty and purdue will be tough. the top 6-7 BIG teams will be good. the BIG will be much improved top to bottom next year.
|2 weeks 15 hours ago||VMart||
funny how nobody mentions him as being good. he had one bad month. he's been hitting the crap out of the ball since his return. at DH he has a few more solid years lleft.
|2 weeks 15 hours ago||at worst||
in 5 years miggy is the recent-years david ortiz at DH; a solid 4 or 5 hitter. maybe after VMart is done. dumb to trade him.
|2 weeks 15 hours ago||simon||
he is no better than hendricks, hammel or even wada. if the cubs trade for a SP, it will be a top end guy to make a deep playoff run.
|2 weeks 15 hours ago||no way||
tigers have way more young talent than the phillies had and the best overall hitter and best DH in the game. plus, arguable the best SS. a lot of $$ are dropping off the roster this year, especially with RPs.
tigers can sign a #1 P, closer and lefty bat and be in contention again next year.
all this said, if the tigers win 4 out of the next five, i could see thme buying a #2 or #3 starter and going for it this year. any trades will wait until the last minute.

i feel the same way about floyd's "wish you were here". could be a few minutes longer. i love how that song builds on the acoustic solo at the beginning.
