I never understood why making fun of someone else's intelligence is "cool" on these boards. I went to NYU Law and am a practicing attorney in Manhattan. I did well in school. But I was nowhere near as good at sports as these kids are. Maybe we just accept we are all human beings with different strengths and weaknesses but, nonetheless, all our excrement smells just the same?

Some of you have used this quote as a platform to continue taking shots at Cardale for a tweet he made as a freshman and that he has since apologized for (and been suspended for). I don't agree with your criticism, but that's fine. I guess I can (kind of) see why you still think that's funny.
But the people here who are using that quote to make it sound like Cardale is dumb really confound me. As an initial matter, even if he were dumb, not sure why you think it is fun to make fun of him about it. I'm sure everyone of you is lacking in some areas, even if intelligence is not one of them.
This context is important, too, when it comes to those who are criticizing Urban Meyer. Urban knows Cardale rocked a 3.0 GPA and was not "dumb." His comment about Cardale is that he struggled with juggling being the starting QB at a major school and keeping up with his curricular activities. And that maybe now that he will be a pro, he will thrive since he can only focus on football. He was saying that maybe that's why Cardale struggled as a starter and why he may be a steal for any team that takes him. He wasn't taking a shot at Cardale--he was trying to excuse his subpar performance as the starting QB at Ohio State last season.
Again, I get the rivalry. I get the shots at Urban Meyer. But why are you guys taking shots at a kid's intelligence? Especially when those attacks are unsubstantiated? I know it's a dead period in college football but you have nothing else better to do in your lives? Huh.

I don't know about 10 wins but I think that UM shows marked improvement in all phases of the game this year. I'm a big believer that in college sports the coach is the most important cog on the team. If the troops rally around Harbaugh--and i have no reason to believe they wouldn't--then this team will play great football and be a force. The Rose Bowl is certainly in play given the favorable schedule. But the main difference between this team and Hoke's team in his first year is that there is no established QB. Hoke had Denard Robinson who was a great college QB. I still think Michigan finishes behind OSU and MSU, but I think they best Wisconsin/Nebraska/PSU in the overall B1G standings. All conjecture at this point but I am glad that the Rivalry will once again be a decisive game that features two top-notch coaches. Go B1G!

Yeah, he's actually a really gifted writer. Ryan and I went to NYU law school together and he remains a friend. He was definitely one of the smartest people and had the best grades. He went to a top-notch NY law firm and eventually gave it all up to write about college football full-time (he used to write for EDSBS under the pseudonym "RunHomeJack" when he was a practicing attorney, on a part-time basis). One thing he hasn't lost is his propensity to write tight, well-written prose. And it shows even in a goofy post such as this. Very funny stuff.

What he said. We have Ezekiel Elliott for at least one more year. Behind him is Curtis Samuel who some on the coaching staff have said may be better than Elliott. And we have 2 top RBs in the 2016 class committed to us in Walker and George Hill. Weber would be nice to have for depth and for the Cass Tech connection. But losing him to you guys would not make anyone in Columbus lose sleep.
Joey Burrow on the other hand . .. he is someone who many from Ohio who follow high school football see as a Barrett clone. I think he's special and sounds like Harbaugh does too.
Either way with Harbaugh on the job, you guys will continue to bring in elite recruits just like Meyer. It may take a couple of years for Harbaugh to get his recruits on campus and for the transition to happen but once it does everyone in Columbus expects something similar to a ten-year war. But I don't think Weber is what will make or break that. Just like Kalis--a five star recruit--has had no impact whatsoever on this rivalry on the field.

Tim Beck is going to replace Herman as QB coach and co-Offensive Coordinator. However, he will NOT replace Herman as the play-caller. Current co-Offensive Coordinator Ed Warinner will call the plays next year and it will be the same offense you have seen this year and under the Meyer tenure.
Great hire by Urban Meyer. Aside from being very highly regarded he also coached WRs under Ed Warinner when they were both in Kansas in 2007 and went 12-1 and won the Orange Bowl.
Dude, I get that you're happy and all and like I wrote earlier, great hire and here's a toast to the Rivalry . . . but really? Yeah I mean, who uses championship rings to judge coaches? Except every person for every sport ever. Look at the Hall of Fame coaches for any sport. I bet an overwhelming majority won at least one ring. I bet you no one discredited them for having won that ring (hence, they are in the HOF).
But, dude, use any metric you want. Meyer has the better winning percentage as a coach (even if you count Harbaugh's NFL record with his college record). Meyer never went 29-21 with any team, even when he coached low-tier Bowling Green or the meh Utah Utes.
The fact that Harbaugh coached in the NFL is definitely an argument that he's a great coach but not necessarily an argument that he is better than Meyer. Meyer never coached in the NFL and by all accounts he has had the opportunity but he just loves college football more.
Literally no one outside Ann Arbor (and maybe your home?) thinks that Harbaugh is a better coach today than Meyer. A lot think he has more potential. A lot think he's just as good now. But even those people would say he has to earn it like Meyer did. Best of luck, it'll be a good 10 years!
Fantastic hire. Harbaugh is an elite coach. He wins everywhere he goes. He will have a ten year war with Meyer.
I think Harbaugh is not going to be considered at Meyer's level by any objective party until he at least wins one ring. Meyer has two and has been close at other times including an undefeated year with Utah. He also has a chance (albeit not a great one) of winning one this year. The two college resumes are not even comparable...yet.
But not trying to rain on any parades. Harbaugh is a home run and I think the right guy for this job. The Rivalry is back on. All good things
I get that all signs point to "it's happening" but isn't the real test what happens early next week? My understanding is that it isn't until the season is officially over that teams like the Raiders or Jets can communicate with Harbaugh and/or his agent about the job. And even if they are sold on him they still have to interview other candidates (per the Rooney rule). So isn't everything until then pure speculation? Or is the prevailing thought here that Harbaugh will just rebuff the NFL teams immediately and announce his new position as the coach of UM?
1) For those saying that they wouldn't take him because he's not that great of a QB...um, ok. He was the B1G player of the year two years in a row (sophomore and junior seasons). And as a freshman playing for a Luke Fickell-coached team that was allergic to passing the ball, he almost single-handedly beat UM at Ann Arbor. As a true freshman. He has broken a ton of records and was on pace to own almost all of them in the B1G until he got hurt this year 12 days before the season started.
Is he the best pocket passer in the world? No. Far from it. But according to McShay and other NFL scouts, he was projected to be drafted around the 5th round as a quarterback before his injury. He has above-average arm strength and has the ability to make all the NFL throws. It's his accuracy that holds him back--but that can be taught. For those who say he is only marginally better at throwing the football than Denard was, I repeat: Braxton will be drafted by an NFL team as a quarterback. Not as a running back.
2) Now onto the topic at hand. I've always learned that you should never say never, but this is about as close to a situation where this is apropos. Braxton Miller is a diehard Buckeye fan from childhood. He has a Buckeye tattoo on his shoulder. He has said in recent interviews (one this week) that he will return to the Buckeyes for his Fifth year understanding that it's not necessarily a given that he is the starting QB (though he should be and will be favored to be). He is not coming to Ann Arbor. And, even if he hit his head and wanted to come to Ann Arbor, the Buckeyes wouldn't give him to you. Get real.
One situation I would consider if I were Braxton is to play for Mark Helfrich at Oregon now that Mariota will be gone. There would be little drop-off from Mariota to Miller -- both are Heisman-caliber quarterbacks with similar skillsets (mariota more accurate passer but Miller more athletically gifted).
But interesting question nonetheless. My question for you guys is out of your current QB crop, who starts next year? From a Buckeye fan's perspective, Bellomy is awful and Shane Morris hasn't been the same since he had that bout of mono his senior year. Is Speight the answer? True frosh Malzone?
Hey--OSU fan here. I think some posters here have hit the nail on the head. Judging by all of the facts that we know for sure, there can really only be three scenarios:
1) Harbaugh has silently accepted the job or has given every indication that he is seriously considering taking it. As some posters have noted, this explains why Michigan has allowed other candidates to take other jobs and why someone like Miles is telling the media that he's out of the running for the job. It also explains why JH has been cryptically silent to the media and why it is public knowledge that Michigan has sent JH a $50 million offer.
2) Harbaugh has given Hackett no indication one way or the other because he simply has not made up his mind or given this a ton of thought (he is, after all, pretty busy running the 49ers and all). And Hackett is interpreting no news as good news. He and his staff think that JH would have told them "no" if he wasn't interested and wouldn't string Michigan along. This explains why they decided to offer $50 million and why they are happy waiting this out. Ultimately, JH will decide and make a tough decision and Hackett is willing to roll the dice knowing full well that he may get rebuffed.
3) Harbaugh is leading Michigan on to leverage Michigan's interest into a sweet deal from an open NFL gig. He realizes that it's to his economic benefit to have Michigan throw money at him because it raises his market value and invites a bidding war. Hackett is falling into his trap and Michigan will end up being played.
Scenario I'm completely ruling out: JH has informed Michigan that he will NOT take the job but Hackett is so desperately set on Harbaugh that he is ignoring that and throwing money at JH. This scenario seems implausible because if this leaked Hackett would be crucified for letting other candidates fall off while he foolishly threw money at someone who flat out told him he wasn't coming.
Which scenario is the correct one? Only JH knows for sure. My gut says the second scenario is the right one. I find it hard to believe that JH has indicated anything solid to Michigan because that would have leaked. It's far more likely and reasonable to assume that there is a bit of a standoff and Michigan is doing what it can to make him an offer he can't refuse. The potential fireworks here is that if JH ends up rebuffing Michigan, he will be crucified by Michigan fans for having led Michigan on. And they would be right.
OSU Fan perspective: I speak for a lot of Buckeye fans when I say I hope you get Harbaugh. We need another 10 year war and JH would provide it. The BIG 10 needs this rivalry now more than ever. Beating Wisconsin 59-0 in a title game indicates that the Big 10 is a joke. OSU (like any team) is only as good as its conference -- because that's what they get judged on in the national media. Except that Hoke isn't suspending Jenkins-Stone for the bowl game for his efforts in that fight. Nor anyone else's unsportsmanlike participation (Jake Ryan comes to mind). And when it comes to "flipping the bird" he never suspended Taylor Lewan when he did it. But sure, rabble rabble.
Also, with respect to the "Urbz gonna Urbz" meme regarding player discipline, I won't defend his history in Florida. But I will note that this year he suspended Carlos Hyde 3 games for an incident in which all the charges were dropped and Roby for one game for an incident in which, again, no charges were filed.
Compare that to, say, Brady Hoke who only suspended Frank Clark (charged with second degree home invasion) for one game and Fitz Toussaint (charged with a DWI) for one game. Or to Jimbo Fisher who will absolutely not suspend Jameis Winston even though his accuser has alleged that he raped her and the DNA matches.
I get that you hate us, etc. But you do realize that if a one loss SEC team jumps an undefeated Ohio St team (assuming we beat Sparty) then that is bad news for the ENTIRE B1G not just tOSU right? It sets a precedent (so far no undefeated AQ team has ever been jumped by one loss team under BCS) that even undefeated B1G teams will be jumped by SEC teams who have lost a game.
Sure we have playoffs next year but the same thinking will apply (could a one loss b1g team ever finish in the top 4 where there are multiple one loss SEC teams?).
Unless you've given up all hopes of ever reaching a national title game I'd be careful not to s*** where I eat.

I think i speak for most OSU fans when i say that i love The Game. I respect the rivalry and the lore. And i know about all the great games in the past. But our recent dominance in the rivalry (over the last decade or so) has withered down the "hate" or whatever you call it against you.
The target of our ire is the SEC in general (and in particular Alabama, because they're the best).

You missed the point. The original poster was arguing that no one would have really known who Winston was or that he was in line to be a big player for the Noles. The fact that his stardom materialized this year (as opposed to next or at all) is insignificant. My point was simply that there was a lot of hype about Winston when the alleged incident happened. Hence, it is very easy to believe that the Tally PD would have been sensitive to the idea of making it publicly known that Winston was being investigated for rape or sexual assault.
We don't know what happened. But let's not rewrite history.
Your last point is wrong. Winston was a top-rated qb recruit (if not THE top rated qb recruit in 2012). I know Urban tried to poach him last minute and tried really hard.
There was a ton of hype heading into this last offseason about how good he looked in practice and on the scout team at FSU during his redshirt year. By the time of the alleged incident anyone in Tally who followed their Seminoles would have known who he was. And when he won the starting job no one was really surprised. Like Herbstreit said recently, the difference between Manziel and Winston (both had ridiculous redshirt frosh years) is that Winston lived up to the crazy hype while Manziel seemingly came out of nowhere (3 star recruit who few knew even at A&M).

Ohio State fan here -- obviously no one but Tyler Luatua and Ohio State know for sure what that tweet refers to, but all the recruiting experts with inside information agree that it refers to Ohio State asking Tyler to reschedule this weekend's visit.
Ohio State is looking to take one TE this class. Their only targets appear to be Mike Gesicki and Tyler Luatua. Both were scheduled to visit this weekend for the Wisconsin night game.
Apparently, Gesicki is the staff's favorite and they asked Tyler to reschedule because they want to focus hard on Gesicki and get him to commit this weekend (and it would be awkward to do that when Tyler is on campus, too). Personally, if true, I can see why Tyler would be upset given that he scheduled his visit before Mike did. At the same time, however, I wouldn't call this "shady."
I agree. But the poster I was responding argued that OSU was "allowing" Tressel to lie and cover up lies. Whether or not Tressel was kicked out the door with a footprint on his rear end or was shown out the door by a nice gentleman and told kindly to sign a letter of retirement, it does not come anywhere near what the poster said.
No reasonable OSU person thinks that what Tressel did was right. This isn't like at Penn State where fans to this day believe that Paterno was a saint and infallible. Tressel lied. While the cover up was over some silly tattoos it does not matter--he did not report an obvious violation and, thus, no longer deserved to be the coach of tOSU. He did deserve the 5 year show-cause penalty levied on him by the NCAA.
We don't hate him. Mainly because it's silly to focus only on his mistakes when there are tons of examples of good deeds he did. Also it does not hurt that he won us a BCS championship and beat Michigan consistently. But he deserved to go. Whether it was via retirement/firing/resignation i don't really care. He's gone. OSU moved on. C'est la vie.
But to get back on-topic here. Saying that because Tressel was told to retire--as opposed to him getting fired and publicly shamed--does not equate to him being "allow[ed]" to lie and cover up lies. Not even Glenn Beck would feel comfortable connecting those two thoughts on his chalkboard.
Not sure I follow you when you say that OSU "allow[ed]" Tressel to lie and cover up his lies. Seems to me that his being forced to resign cuts against that sentiment. Along with the NCAA investigation which did not show that the cover-up went beyond Tressel, hence no lack of institutional control violation.

I agree SC won't score much on offense--but if they manhandle the Michigan O-Line...it doesn't much matter because a devastating pass rush causes turnovers and negates a good qb--just ask Murray and his Georgia Bulldogs, this gives SC the edge on the field position battle, which will allow SC to put up points without having to be too efficient on offense to do so.
Ultimately, while both defenses are stout--SC is more dominant at shutting down what Michigan does best on offense (edge running game with Denard and long-developing passing game with Gardner) than Michigan is against what SCdoes best on offense (running between the tackles and play action passing). Hope I'm wrong, though.
Yikes. SC is not a good matchup for Michigan. That Defensive front is as good as it gets and Michigan O-line is one of Michigan's weakest units. The long-developing routes that Roundtree and Gallon excel in wont be there with the kind of pass rush SC has. And, more importantly, this will be the most athletic defense that Denard has faced in his career. The edge won't be there--Denard will be forced to run inside. Without an inside running game either, Michigan is going to have to develop a short passing game--that's how you beat a defense like this. 3 step drops and short accurate passes. Can Gardner become that kind of QB over the next 4 weeks?
OSU fan here. Serious question: At what point does Hoke get blamed for your inconsistencies on offense in addition to the blame everyone on this board puts on Borges?
Obviously Borges was brought in to call the plays. Hoke, more than most coaches, seems to be completely hands-off in that department (doesn't even wear a headset during the game). At what point is it on Hoke for not stepping in and overruling Borges during the game on some play calls or for not getting more involved during the week in practice when the offensive gameplan is being created?
A specific follow-up question is: From what you guys know as fans of UM, is it ultimately Hoke's call as to personnel decisions on offense or does he defer that decision-making to Borges as well? In other words, was it Hoke who ultimately decided to move DG to WR and Bellomy to 2nd string behind Denard? Was it Hoke who ultimately decided to move DG back to QB and Denard to a non-QB role?

True sophomore Michael Bennett started at SDE in place of Simon. Adolph's Washington moved up to the 2-deep behind Bennett. He and Noah Spence (WDE) usually come in during obvious passing situations because of their speed. Tommy Schutt has also earned lots of playing time tis year at DT. If Hankins goes this year, all three of these guys may very well start next year on the DL.
Haha calm down there. Reading comprehension--it's a beautiful thing. I was not comparing your morality to Tressel's. I was comparing Michigan fans' morality to OSU fans' morality. My point being that all this talk about how Tressel shouldn't be honored with his 2002 team is ludicrous. Tressel was severely punished for his mistakes. But we as fans can forgive. Christianity will tell you that there is nothing more moral than forgiveness. Implying OSU fans are less moral because we choose to forgive the man who cost us our title run this year turns morality on its head.

Don't understand all the moral finger wagging by Michigan fans about having Tressel honored along with the rest of the 2002 championship team. The man made a big mistake, one he paid for dearly. But what is less moral than holding grudges and refusing to give forgiveness? He messed up. He received major penalties. Life goes on for Tressel and tOSU.

OSU fan here. I root against ND as much as the next guy, but if they win at the Colosseum and finish undefeated, not sure why they would be undeserving to make the NC game. It'd be a different story if KSU and Oregon stayed undefeated. But no rational person forgives KSU for getting clobbered by Baylor, or Oregon for laying an egg at home against a Stanford team that started a freshman in his first ever road game.
I guess my point is, why is it more unfair for ND to go to the championship game after an undefeated season that at times lacked style points than allowing SEC teams and/or KSU/Oregon to go instead even though they laid eggs during the season. Doesn't make sense to blame ND for barely beating a team like BYU and then at the same time forgive a team like Georgia for getting blown out by South Carolina.

Not sure who the OP is referring to when he mocks OSU Fans for thinking Dorian Johnson was a lock to OSU. I'm an OSU fan and I'd love Dorian to be at OSU, but I always understood from major recruiting sites that Pitt was the favorite. I visit 11W a ton, too, and Alex has always put him as a Pitt favorite with the only caveat being that hie had scheduled 2 visits with OSU. One for the Michigan game, and one in the offseason. So the thinking was Urban might seal the deal with two late visits.
By the way before he committed to PSU earlier this year, he told Alex that Pitt was his second choice ahead of OSU, Pitt was always ahead of OSU.

I never understood why making fun of someone else's intelligence is "cool" on these boards. I went to NYU Law and am a practicing attorney in Manhattan. I did well in school. But I was nowhere near as good at sports as these kids are. Maybe we just accept we are all human beings with different strengths and weaknesses but, nonetheless, all our excrement smells just the same?

Some of you have used this quote as a platform to continue taking shots at Cardale for a tweet he made as a freshman and that he has since apologized for (and been suspended for). I don't agree with your criticism, but that's fine. I guess I can (kind of) see why you still think that's funny.
But the people here who are using that quote to make it sound like Cardale is dumb really confound me. As an initial matter, even if he were dumb, not sure why you think it is fun to make fun of him about it. I'm sure everyone of you is lacking in some areas, even if intelligence is not one of them.
But the actual point here is that Cardale Jones is not dumb. He rocked a 3.0 GPA at Ohio State. And, no, he was not just taking "basket weaving" courses as suggested below. In fact, that infamous tweet was sent out after Cardale got a "B" in a sociology exam. He had studied so hard for that exam that when he received a "B" he was frustrated, and that frustration led to that tweet. This context is important, too, when it comes to those who are criticizing Urban Meyer. Urban knows Cardale rocked a 3.0 GPA and was not "dumb." His comment about Cardale is that he struggled with juggling being the starting QB at a major school and keeping up with his curricular activities. And that maybe now that he will be a pro, he will thrive since he can only focus on football. He was saying that maybe that's why Cardale struggled as a starter and why he may be a steal for any team that takes him. He wasn't taking a shot at Cardale--he was trying to excuse his subpar performance as the starting QB at Ohio State last season.
Again, I get the rivalry. I get the shots at Urban Meyer. But why are you guys taking shots at a kid's intelligence? Especially when those attacks are unsubstantiated? I know it's a dead period in college football but you have nothing else better to do in your lives? Huh.

I don't know about 10 wins but I think that UM shows marked improvement in all phases of the game this year. I'm a big believer that in college sports the coach is the most important cog on the team. If the troops rally around Harbaugh--and i have no reason to believe they wouldn't--then this team will play great football and be a force. The Rose Bowl is certainly in play given the favorable schedule. But the main difference between this team and Hoke's team in his first year is that there is no established QB. Hoke had Denard Robinson who was a great college QB. I still think Michigan finishes behind OSU and MSU, but I think they best Wisconsin/Nebraska/PSU in the overall B1G standings. All conjecture at this point but I am glad that the Rivalry will once again be a decisive game that features two top-notch coaches. Go B1G!

Yeah, he's actually a really gifted writer. Ryan and I went to NYU law school together and he remains a friend. He was definitely one of the smartest people and had the best grades. He went to a top-notch NY law firm and eventually gave it all up to write about college football full-time (he used to write for EDSBS under the pseudonym "RunHomeJack" when he was a practicing attorney, on a part-time basis). One thing he hasn't lost is his propensity to write tight, well-written prose. And it shows even in a goofy post such as this. Very funny stuff.

What he said. We have Ezekiel Elliott for at least one more year. Behind him is Curtis Samuel who some on the coaching staff have said may be better than Elliott. And we have 2 top RBs in the 2016 class committed to us in Walker and George Hill. Weber would be nice to have for depth and for the Cass Tech connection. But losing him to you guys would not make anyone in Columbus lose sleep.
Joey Burrow on the other hand . .. he is someone who many from Ohio who follow high school football see as a Barrett clone. I think he's special and sounds like Harbaugh does too.
Either way with Harbaugh on the job, you guys will continue to bring in elite recruits just like Meyer. It may take a couple of years for Harbaugh to get his recruits on campus and for the transition to happen but once it does everyone in Columbus expects something similar to a ten-year war. But I don't think Weber is what will make or break that. Just like Kalis--a five star recruit--has had no impact whatsoever on this rivalry on the field.

Tim Beck is going to replace Herman as QB coach and co-Offensive Coordinator. However, he will NOT replace Herman as the play-caller. Current co-Offensive Coordinator Ed Warinner will call the plays next year and it will be the same offense you have seen this year and under the Meyer tenure.
Great hire by Urban Meyer. Aside from being very highly regarded he also coached WRs under Ed Warinner when they were both in Kansas in 2007 and went 12-1 and won the Orange Bowl.
Dude, I get that you're happy and all and like I wrote earlier, great hire and here's a toast to the Rivalry . . . but really? Yeah I mean, who uses championship rings to judge coaches? Except every person for every sport ever. Look at the Hall of Fame coaches for any sport. I bet an overwhelming majority won at least one ring. I bet you no one discredited them for having won that ring (hence, they are in the HOF).
But, dude, use any metric you want. Meyer has the better winning percentage as a coach (even if you count Harbaugh's NFL record with his college record). Meyer never went 29-21 with any team, even when he coached low-tier Bowling Green or the meh Utah Utes.
The fact that Harbaugh coached in the NFL is definitely an argument that he's a great coach but not necessarily an argument that he is better than Meyer. Meyer never coached in the NFL and by all accounts he has had the opportunity but he just loves college football more.
Literally no one outside Ann Arbor (and maybe your home?) thinks that Harbaugh is a better coach today than Meyer. A lot think he has more potential. A lot think he's just as good now. But even those people would say he has to earn it like Meyer did. Best of luck, it'll be a good 10 years!
Fantastic hire. Harbaugh is an elite coach. He wins everywhere he goes. He will have a ten year war with Meyer.
I think Harbaugh is not going to be considered at Meyer's level by any objective party until he at least wins one ring. Meyer has two and has been close at other times including an undefeated year with Utah. He also has a chance (albeit not a great one) of winning one this year. The two college resumes are not even comparable...yet.
But not trying to rain on any parades. Harbaugh is a home run and I think the right guy for this job. The Rivalry is back on. All good things
I get that all signs point to "it's happening" but isn't the real test what happens early next week? My understanding is that it isn't until the season is officially over that teams like the Raiders or Jets can communicate with Harbaugh and/or his agent about the job. And even if they are sold on him they still have to interview other candidates (per the Rooney rule). So isn't everything until then pure speculation? Or is the prevailing thought here that Harbaugh will just rebuff the NFL teams immediately and announce his new position as the coach of UM?

OSU fan here. Two thoughts to this thread:
1) For those saying that they wouldn't take him because he's not that great of a QB...um, ok. He was the B1G player of the year two years in a row (sophomore and junior seasons). And as a freshman playing for a Luke Fickell-coached team that was allergic to passing the ball, he almost single-handedly beat UM at Ann Arbor. As a true freshman. He has broken a ton of records and was on pace to own almost all of them in the B1G until he got hurt this year 12 days before the season started.
Is he the best pocket passer in the world? No. Far from it. But according to McShay and other NFL scouts, he was projected to be drafted around the 5th round as a quarterback before his injury. He has above-average arm strength and has the ability to make all the NFL throws. It's his accuracy that holds him back--but that can be taught. For those who say he is only marginally better at throwing the football than Denard was, I repeat: Braxton will be drafted by an NFL team as a quarterback. Not as a running back.
2) Now onto the topic at hand. I've always learned that you should never say never, but this is about as close to a situation where this is apropos. Braxton Miller is a diehard Buckeye fan from childhood. He has a Buckeye tattoo on his shoulder. He has said in recent interviews (one this week) that he will return to the Buckeyes for his Fifth year understanding that it's not necessarily a given that he is the starting QB (though he should be and will be favored to be). He is not coming to Ann Arbor. And, even if he hit his head and wanted to come to Ann Arbor, the Buckeyes wouldn't give him to you. Get real.
One situation I would consider if I were Braxton is to play for Mark Helfrich at Oregon now that Mariota will be gone. There would be little drop-off from Mariota to Miller -- both are Heisman-caliber quarterbacks with similar skillsets (mariota more accurate passer but Miller more athletically gifted).
But interesting question nonetheless. My question for you guys is out of your current QB crop, who starts next year? From a Buckeye fan's perspective, Bellomy is awful and Shane Morris hasn't been the same since he had that bout of mono his senior year. Is Speight the answer? True frosh Malzone?
Hey--OSU fan here. I think some posters here have hit the nail on the head. Judging by all of the facts that we know for sure, there can really only be three scenarios:
1) Harbaugh has silently accepted the job or has given every indication that he is seriously considering taking it. As some posters have noted, this explains why Michigan has allowed other candidates to take other jobs and why someone like Miles is telling the media that he's out of the running for the job. It also explains why JH has been cryptically silent to the media and why it is public knowledge that Michigan has sent JH a $50 million offer.
2) Harbaugh has given Hackett no indication one way or the other because he simply has not made up his mind or given this a ton of thought (he is, after all, pretty busy running the 49ers and all). And Hackett is interpreting no news as good news. He and his staff think that JH would have told them "no" if he wasn't interested and wouldn't string Michigan along. This explains why they decided to offer $50 million and why they are happy waiting this out. Ultimately, JH will decide and make a tough decision and Hackett is willing to roll the dice knowing full well that he may get rebuffed.
3) Harbaugh is leading Michigan on to leverage Michigan's interest into a sweet deal from an open NFL gig. He realizes that it's to his economic benefit to have Michigan throw money at him because it raises his market value and invites a bidding war. Hackett is falling into his trap and Michigan will end up being played.
Scenario I'm completely ruling out: JH has informed Michigan that he will NOT take the job but Hackett is so desperately set on Harbaugh that he is ignoring that and throwing money at JH. This scenario seems implausible because if this leaked Hackett would be crucified for letting other candidates fall off while he foolishly threw money at someone who flat out told him he wasn't coming.
Which scenario is the correct one? Only JH knows for sure. My gut says the second scenario is the right one. I find it hard to believe that JH has indicated anything solid to Michigan because that would have leaked. It's far more likely and reasonable to assume that there is a bit of a standoff and Michigan is doing what it can to make him an offer he can't refuse. The potential fireworks here is that if JH ends up rebuffing Michigan, he will be crucified by Michigan fans for having led Michigan on. And they would be right.
OSU Fan perspective: I speak for a lot of Buckeye fans when I say I hope you get Harbaugh. We need another 10 year war and JH would provide it. The BIG 10 needs this rivalry now more than ever. Beating Wisconsin 59-0 in a title game indicates that the Big 10 is a joke. OSU (like any team) is only as good as its conference -- because that's what they get judged on in the national media. Yeah I mean, their qb was injured and couldn't run for the second half and they were playing on the road at a very hostile stadium--but comparing this game to michigan's game against penn state is fun.

Except that Hoke isn't suspending Jenkins-Stone for the bowl game for his efforts in that fight. Nor anyone else's unsportsmanlike participation (Jake Ryan comes to mind). And when it comes to "flipping the bird" he never suspended Taylor Lewan when he did it. But sure, rabble rabble.
Also, with respect to the "Urbz gonna Urbz" meme regarding player discipline, I won't defend his history in Florida. But I will note that this year he suspended Carlos Hyde 3 games for an incident in which all the charges were dropped and Roby for one game for an incident in which, again, no charges were filed.
Compare that to, say, Brady Hoke who only suspended Frank Clark (charged with second degree home invasion) for one game and Fitz Toussaint (charged with a DWI) for one game. Or to Jimbo Fisher who will absolutely not suspend Jameis Winston even though his accuser has alleged that he raped her and the DNA matches.

I think i speak for most OSU fans when i say that i love The Game. I respect the rivalry and the lore. And i know about all the great games in the past. But our recent dominance in the rivalry (over the last decade or so) has withered down the "hate" or whatever you call it against you.
The target of our ire is the SEC in general (and in particular Alabama, because they're the best).

Ohio State fan here -- obviously no one but Tyler Luatua and Ohio State know for sure what that tweet refers to, but all the recruiting experts with inside information agree that it refers to Ohio State asking Tyler to reschedule this weekend's visit.
Ohio State is looking to take one TE this class. Their only targets appear to be Mike Gesicki and Tyler Luatua. Both were scheduled to visit this weekend for the Wisconsin night game.
Apparently, Gesicki is the staff's favorite and they asked Tyler to reschedule because they want to focus hard on Gesicki and get him to commit this weekend (and it would be awkward to do that when Tyler is on campus, too). Personally, if true, I can see why Tyler would be upset given that he scheduled his visit before Mike did. At the same time, however, I wouldn't call this "shady."
I agree. But the poster I was responding argued that OSU was "allowing" Tressel to lie and cover up lies. Whether or not Tressel was kicked out the door with a footprint on his rear end or was shown out the door by a nice gentleman and told kindly to sign a letter of retirement, it does not come anywhere near what the poster said.
No reasonable OSU person thinks that what Tressel did was right. This isn't like at Penn State where fans to this day believe that Paterno was a saint and infallible. Tressel lied. While the cover up was over some silly tattoos it does not matter--he did not report an obvious violation and, thus, no longer deserved to be the coach of tOSU. He did deserve the 5 year show-cause penalty levied on him by the NCAA.
We don't hate him. Mainly because it's silly to focus only on his mistakes when there are tons of examples of good deeds he did. Also it does not hurt that he won us a BCS championship and beat Michigan consistently. But he deserved to go. Whether it was via retirement/firing/resignation i don't really care. He's gone. OSU moved on. C'est la vie.
But to get back on-topic here. Saying that because Tressel was told to retire--as opposed to him getting fired and publicly shamed--does not equate to him being "allow[ed]" to lie and cover up lies. Not even Glenn Beck would feel comfortable connecting those two thoughts on his chalkboard.
Not sure I follow you when you say that OSU "allow[ed]" Tressel to lie and cover up his lies. Seems to me that his being forced to resign cuts against that sentiment. Along with the NCAA investigation which did not show that the cover-up went beyond Tressel, hence no lack of institutional control violation.

OSU fan here. Serious question: At what point does Hoke get blamed for your inconsistencies on offense in addition to the blame everyone on this board puts on Borges?
Obviously Borges was brought in to call the plays. Hoke, more than most coaches, seems to be completely hands-off in that department (doesn't even wear a headset during the game). At what point is it on Hoke for not stepping in and overruling Borges during the game on some play calls or for not getting more involved during the week in practice when the offensive gameplan is being created?
A specific follow-up question is: From what you guys know as fans of UM, is it ultimately Hoke's call as to personnel decisions on offense or does he defer that decision-making to Borges as well? In other words, was it Hoke who ultimately decided to move DG to WR and Bellomy to 2nd string behind Denard? Was it Hoke who ultimately decided to move DG back to QB and Denard to a non-QB role?
