Göetze is a done deal, Lewandowski maybe less so, but still probable. |

Glad to see the back of him. As a Liverpool supporter, I loathe the man, but there is no denying his accomplishments. Have to respect him. I hated no basketball player more than Michael Jordan; he played for the Bulls (rivals to my Detroit Pistons) and was a giant asshole, much like Ferguson. That said, you can't look at the ability and the record and not have respect for his achievements. United have accomplished amazing things under him; if Liverpool had done the same in this era, I would be waving the flag... I get it. I think he's been given a competitive advantage because of his status and success (Fergie Time is REAL!!), the smaller teams absolutely capitulate to United-- they are beaten before they play!-- but that's all minor compared to winning all of those titles and cups. I wish we had been good enough to beat him to the title, would have been amazing. Alas, he goes out on top. That said, the club have had no real uncertainty in 26 years, so that alone is something to relish. Moyes has won zero trophies. I assume Felliani and Baines to United, but with Mourinho and possibly Falcao en route to Chelsea, can't see United overcoming this loss any time soon. Fergie has been overperforming with this team for a long time, I hope Moyes falls on his face. Liverpool have our own problems to overcome, obviously, but still, a great day IMO.

not even close... *ha* We won the Champions League five times since 1977 (last was 2005) and have 18 league titles, the last of which was in the 1980's. So, yeah, Cubs comparison is a bit off. |
| 13 weeks 4 days ago | I know your pain |
It has been a rough few years... I have felt many parallels with being a Michigan fan... The Hodgson/ Rich Rod tenures being at roughly the same time, Hoke/ Dalglish (Michigan Man/ Liverpool legend) coming in around the same time, winning the League Cup/ Wining the Sugar bowl, tough losses to rivals this year. Michigan basketball and Liverpool also seem in synch with our recent skid in hoops coming at the same time as Liverpool have struggled against West Brom and now Zenit... things feel too synched up. I watched the Wisconsin game and just KNEW LFC would lose to Albion, and once that was done, MSU felt impossible and after that, Zenit was out of the question... someone must break the cycle! If only both Michigan football and Liverpool could get back on top, but we're a few years away on both counts (if ever), so it just frustrates... I've been very quiet about my teams, just gritting my teeth and hoping for better days ahead, especially in BIG matches/ rivalries, both Mich football and LFC have had a really rough patch this year... painful |

My favorite Dave Brandon WOW moment was when he pretended to say "wow" for the cameras looking up at his new HD scoreboards in the last Countdown To Kickoff Video of 2011. Because nothing gets me more hyped for the season than watching an executive survey his empire in awe of himself... |

agree 100%. He was clearly forcing his throws and did not have any sense of calm in the pocket. Yes, it was Alabama, but you need an ice cold killer back there ala Tom Brady in 2000, which, obviously he is not. That's ok, but I think you are right-- he seemed way too hyped up. |

| 37 weeks 2 days ago | In all honesty, with depth |
In all honesty, with depth concerns and history, why play your starting CBs on special teams? I'm sure Blake is one of the better speed guys for that unit, but you have so many guys on scholarship, I just don't understand why he is playing there regardless of his abilities/ history on ST. |

| 37 weeks 5 days ago | matte |
I love the matte paint jobs on helmets (and cars). It wouldn't work for Michigan (if it isn't broke...) but it looks good on solid, dark helmets (like the Duke helmet). Like it alot. |

I'll be there on 9/8 (Air Force) and will be looking to find. I think I am staying near Real Sports bar, so maybe? maybe on my laptop (like UTL last year)... Flying home on 9/15, cutting it close to arrive in time for UMass. So glad the ND game is later this year and Bama comes early... |
| 39 weeks 6 days ago | puke |
I am gutted that Arsenal would sell him to United. £24 million talks, but how many trophy-free season should their supporters have to endure? RVP put them in a bad spot and they did well to get that money for him, but it stinks he has gone to United. |
| 43 weeks 7 hours ago | yeah |
The lawsuits; to me, that's a different ball of wax and I agree. But for the NCAA, an organization that is set up for and by the institutions and which should be protecting students, to punish the students financially is really troubling to me. I hope your 100% theory of AD is correct. Again, I think a fine is fair, but the process of getting that money should be bleeding the atheltic department dry, not taxing tax-dollar sibsidized loans and student debt and re-distributing it via the NCAA from middle and working class kids truing to get an education. |
| 43 weeks 11 hours ago | Honest Question |
This is not to defend Penn State and in no way am I supporting their position in this situation. However, my main question is about the $60 million fine which, I assume, will be raised on the backs of hard working students on loan programs. How is that money being collected? yes, it's a "season's worth of football revenue" but I am not sure football revenue will be used to offset it. I get the idea of punishing them severely and support that, but I am wondering how PSU and the NCAA can gurantee that this money does not come from the pockets of inncoent, hard working students because that seems to me to be targeting the wrong people. It reminds me of economic sanctions against a nation; the rich stay rich and the poor get hungrier. Does anyone know if there is anything in place to earmark money for this fine? This is my only problem with the penalties. |
| 44 weeks 4 days ago | Euro v College |
As a passionate follower of both "footballs", I think the Euro coverage was generally excellent compared with the college football coverage-- I usually am watching the 10:00AM BPL match during College Game Day, so I don't know much about all of that, but the Mark May/ Lou Holtz/ Reece Davis stuff is god awful. There are so many tropes of pre-game American football coverage I hate: the "technique analysis" of retired players on the 10 yard "field" jam blocking each other on the "snap", the Lou Holtz vs Mark May "courtroom" skits are atrocious, etc. If they did a solid studio show with real analysis and then had annoucners get out of the way of the game and pre-game, it would be amazing. Would love to see the entrances, edited well. I'd also love to see more shots of individual fans emotions instead of pans of the crowd going wild, etc-- or at least finding the right mix. That said, oooof on Euro studio show. Twellman/Lalas/Ballack (Ballack was just horrible) and Bob Ley with Roberto Martinez on satellite was ugly. Bob Ley knows nothing about soccer. For all of the quality of the British/Scottish play by play announcers of the matches, Twellman and Keller on color were not good... although they grew on me. Still, American announcers talk over EVERYTHING-- it is not just ESPN, the BTN is also just horrible, etc. Good soccer announcers know they are not on the radio and that the game speaks for itself. Sports broadcasting could use more of that in general.

This exactly. Imagine Michigan lining up against Oregon St away in scarlet jerseys and grey/silver Michigan helmets. You think Special K and bumble bee jerseys and numbers on the helmet are a tough sell? This would send the universe over the edge. |
