Good god people, what a bunch of wet blankets.

I'm sure this would be a welcome commitment to the development folks at UM. All it takes is for someone here on this board to make it happen. You can probably request a list of naming opportunities, find out what donation level it takes to secure one, then when you have that much money you can turn it over and have them name it whatever the hell you want (as long as it meets their donor recognition standards).
Complaining about it but not showing up with the cash is, as they say, cheap. The reason those folks have their names on the facilities is because they actually wrote the dang check.
Last year everyone here was falling over themselves about Stephen Ross's gift to the athletic department. He of the Stephen M. Ross School of Business...
Endowing chairs, positions, even coach's jobs is not a new thing people. It's a way for people to give money to support an institution they love and have a good idea how the money is being used. And then the university can spend elsewhere the money they would have spent on that thing. Win/win.
|40 weeks 2 days ago||Sure, hypothetically||
But since this trade would have to come down to trusting Buckeyes on their end of the bargain, I think I'll just go back to wanting to win both of those games.
|40 weeks 2 days ago||Do it||
A third kid brings glorious pandemonium - and really separates the parental wheat from the chaff.
Naming is up to you and any birthing partners.
|42 weeks 3 days ago||And I would also take the band off that list||
I would venture to say our band has gone as soft as well. Still good, but no longer great or in the running for "greatest."

I think I agree that more likely than not, most teams would see their trendlines heading slightly south over the season. As much for the typically soft early season schedules as for anything related to opponents better understanding play tendencies or everyone generally getting into the meat of their schedule late in the season. (Northwestern and Wisconsin played OSU fairly early in their B10 seasons, for instance.)
What's most striking to me about these three seasons isn't so much that the 2013 season has a steeper negative slope (though that's not good either), but that the 2013 season is the only one whose trendline results in sub-average territory (by a lot). It doesn't seem unusual that teams would have a variety of issues depressing offensive output late into the season, but for Michigan to end up so far below the average of it's opponents' outputs (if I'm understanding these values/charts correctly), that's a big issue for me. 2011 looks to be about average (ending around 100%); 2012 a bit better at about 105%; but 2013 is horrid at around 70%).
I'm sure using trendlines as an averaging of our offensive output isn't so scientific, but the graph is telling of (something bad), nonetheless.

but thought it was in one of the OTs. What I do recall is how jarring it was to see that play out of nowhere - I was so (all-too-momentarily) relieved to see us pull it out and thought we were now playing to win. But I think the next play was a run back into the teeth.
|48 weeks 6 days ago||Yeah, maybe our coaches should watch more college teams play||
Instead of watching NFL ones - it's definitely not helping.
|48 weeks 6 days ago||I think we can stop with discussion of National Championships||
The team isn't likely competitive for division championships on the current trajectory.

Apparently unanswered amidst all the hullabaloo. But seriously, what does the fox say?
|1 year 1 day ago||It's been a long week||
but someone needs to explain to me the irony in that. That actually seems to be an example of consistency. I think it'd be more ironic to have had the people on the board that mock Dantonio to have cheered the skywriting and Brandon, but I might be getting to old to actually understand irony any more.

Did you (Mr. Smith) ever complete the shipping of the shirts from the Kickstarter? I've been looking out for two to come my way but nothing in the mail as yet...

if I have to view the site twice to make sure I get all the content - once on a laptop to view the photos and charts that don't render on my mobile and then again to view the mobile-only stuff like Vine etc. It's weird, the internet these days.

Might provide him the time to collect himself both athletically and academically. Lots of students need to take a term or more off to refocus for success.

I don't ever want Brian to be right.
|1 year 10 weeks ago||Thanks||
That's a much more cogent response than the one I had started in my head. This entire argument has me befuddled - am I now so old that the origin of "blog" has faded from memory? Do people think this is a Time, Inc. subsidiary?
Whatevs, get off my lawn. I miss Haloscan.

the 2014 schedule's already been announced and he didn't want to take a complete bath when the dynamics of his new pricing model bottomed out.

at least he didn't start his post with "Bro" - isn't that enough for you people?

I'm wondering, too, if the four-year value of that scholarship also needs to go on the books when the LOI is signed. That might put the athletic department in the hole for that $160,000 right away as opposed to the $40,000 they're currently booking annually because they have to account for it as a liability/payable on their books. A school the size of Michigan shouldn't have an issue with that, but with the recent articles about how many programs are running in the red already, that could be a big deal. In three years, it'd net out about the same, but years one and two could be tough for a tight budget.
In Michigan's case, I have to assume it's a blend of "we're Michigan Men, fergodsakes, our Word is our Bond" and a reluctance to dip into the budget lines allocated for "Administrative Excellence Bonuses" or "Fan Excitement Enhancements!"
|1 year 17 weeks ago||But there is so much art in this post||
that it couldn't justifiably be broken up with a "read more". This post puts the mgoblog back into mgoblog. In my opinion.
It also made me a tad wistful for BlueSeoul - that camera man's hand cried out for a 'Derp!'

except Mollys. Apparently.

and I'm kind of pissed. It's been great having Michigan come here for games - great way to involve the family in the traditions. With 3 kids and work and life and all, it's just not as easy to jump away to Ann Arbor for gameday. I'll trade Purdue for Northwestern. Any takers?

to never experience a home loss to a 6-6 team. No one else on this board has had to suffer such a disappointment, why should you?

You type well for a drunk sorority girl. The Michigan Difference, I suppose.
