|1 hour 20 min ago||I like Pelini for his willingness to opine...||
Hoke said a couple weeks ago that he and his staff look at issues around CFB every week. I don't hear him check in on issues of the day like Pelini does.
There is a very strong and vocal section of Michigan alumni and fans that pay attention. It would be nice if a Michigan coach would talk about one issue a week that concerns CFB at large.
|6 hours 49 min ago||Uh... no it doesn't .||
Nothing personal but this is dumb.
Brandon is contained by the public and administrative opprobrium. He is gone at the end of his contract or sooner. The coaching job needs to be filled now. The search is on. Brandon is not bigger than CC.
I don't go to games to see the AD. Ultimately it is not a money issue for me going to or watching Michigan sports. It's a love of Michigan. If Brandon stays to enable a better experience for the athletes and outcome for the school in the long run - so be it.
Brandon is not the devil. He has screwed up. He has done some things well. As a school we are 3M into him. Change the coach that is the priority.

Does Unix do DOS.
|2 days 15 hours ago||You may have it right...||
if DB were doing fine I'd expect him to have contacted agents for other coaches by now. If it's Bates or Long or some other experienced AD I'm sure they would know who to call. To think that we would be hiring both an AD and coach in one month... it's just crazy.
The current AD should rightfully be scrambling trying to put together a plan/package that will get the right guy. A new hire has to assess the team, the politics and ps and qs and turn it all around in a week or so perhaps. The schedule is tight. Wouldn't you rather have DB take the onus of fixing his mistakes than Bates coming in and having his agenda handed to him by Schlissel, who is out of his depth, or worse yet the regents.
I don't like Brandon but I think he knows more about hiring football coaches at this point than the president or the regents ever will know or care to know.

|2 days 16 hours ago||Yes but there are intangibles...||
Michigan won their last game. Their backs are to the wall. Redemption is an absolutely huge component in the game. Michigan has talent. This roster is full of players who have shown potential at some stage in their careers.
I agree with your assessment, but I didn't see the 31-0 ass kicking at ND coming. Maybe there is something else in this team we haven't seen yet. We are a long ways from Funchess taking in his TD catch on the jumbotron vs. App State. It's time to butt heads....
Then again...maybe not. All I'm saying is I'm nto throwing in the towel against Sparty- ever.
|2 days 16 hours ago||We've actually progressed defensively and in recruiting...||
The comparison between Hoke and RR is apples to oranges. The reality is there are few schools who can recruit and execute in the man ball regime. I don't think it is extreme to think Michigan will look at opening up the offense if the candidate is sucessful and well regarded. The focus on defense has to remain strong (ie the DC salary will be competitive.)
|2 days 17 hours ago||I know you are being sarcastic here but I think that ship has||
sailed for the time being. Every week will diminish the return on firing DB. The coaching hire is the key. I don't know who would drive the CC if DB is fired at or near December. That would truly bring chaos.
The time to fire DB was last week during the bye. Schlissel is not able to swallow that pill. So be it. The longer he takes the more I support DB to vet and hire the next coach. There comes a time to circle the wagons.
|2 days 18 hours ago||It was a game deciding call ...||
you can't complain about the refs. It's on you to take them out of the game. Kelly should coach his players on the fine points of what they are doing. He owns it. So unlike him to deny that. /s.
To me it was a legit call. Both teams let it come to that. Both teams had the chance to take the game earlier. If you let it come down to a judgment call, you stand a chance of losing and should take it as it comes.
|2 days 18 hours ago||We out gained them...||
do you really take solace in that?
|3 days 9 hours ago||Agree...||
No shame in losing when you play well.
|5 days 5 hours ago||The plight of the long snapper...||
FTW - gloriously taken out of context.
|6 days 5 hours ago||He didn't open the wallet for RR which was a pretty big||
oversight. A good defensive coordinator would have made his legacy golden.
|6 days 5 hours ago||As much as I don't like some of the things DB has done...||
it's really about replacing Hoke in my mind at least. The department can be driven by a competent AD. There are more than enough candidates.
All the satellite sports will be taken care of in some respect or another. Football, however, is broken. DB won't last through the next football coach. He made the wrong call on Hoke. There is little to no reason to think he will make the right one in December. In fact candidates are not going to be attracted to DB with his micro-managing lord brand maximizing style. DB is a hindrance to getting the best coach for 2015. Football is boss. Basketball is little brother.
DB has done a fine job. A good job even if you exclude football. Fine isn't good enough. Of course his employees (including student athletes here) will openly support him. Schlissel is all that matters at this point.
|1 week 3 days ago||Next up...||
this is football. We had some good years to balance this out. 2011 was pretty clean.
|1 week 3 days ago||This team is far from the worst in school history in||
pretty much every measure. Lighten up.
|1 week 6 days ago||It's open season...||
Schlissel is the only guy who can start to make this better at this point. Many of the recruits commit to the school - but the commitment to excellence starts at the top. Schlissel can show that now. He is really the only one at this point who can do this IMO. The season will remain open until he does.
Regardless it's going to be a bumpy road until the next coach is in place.

we can click or not at our own risk. The value of a thread is in its views. Filing new posts into pinned threads requires just as much work as reading them in the first place but comes with the added distraction of obscuring content from where we normally expect to see it and have our RSS feeds set to look for it.
|2 weeks 3 days ago||You, sir, are a font of knowledge...||
|2 weeks 3 days ago||You can't fire and hire an AD in December as well as a coach...||
If you are going to change AD then it needs to be now to allow the new AD time to get their feet planted and make a move at the end of the season wrt CC.
That is the urgency that needs to be expressed however it is done. I have reservations that DB will not move on. The next guy needs to do the hiring ... not DB.
|2 weeks 4 days ago||Have you ever been to an A&M game? IMO the best gameday||
experience in all of college football - especially when accompanied by your girlfriend. Don't waste it on club seats. If you have any connections with the students have them pull guest tickets for you and your friend.
If you are going to see an NFL game go club. If you are celebrating with a GF sit with the students. It's where the action is.
My two cents.
Nice thread jack BTW. We could use more of these hijackings given the topic of the hour.
|2 weeks 5 days ago||I appreciate your comment but this was a game situation.||
The concussion was mild. That is not easy to diagnose no matter what your credential is. Morris ran in during the chaos of the helmet rule and the play clock to run a handoff. He finished the play 10 yards from the nearest defender. He was not put in significant risk by the staff.
Your anecdote is solid but I don't think it applies to marginal injuries in game situations. Morris could have been pulled much earlier for his leg injury and should have been. Bellomy should have been ready. There should never be 10 men on a punt team. Schmidt is fine. The organization is screwy. Sports in general are learning lessons and modifying procedures to address this concussion issue that itself was delayed decades from coming to the fore by the NFL. Blaming Paul Schmidt here is lame and scapegoating.
That said I really do respect your opinion and experience. Thanks for the comment.
|2 weeks 6 days ago||Don't blame Paul Schmidt... this is a problem on the highest||
levels of sport.
Remember Alvaro Pereira in the world cup. He was knocked out cold and got back in the game one minute after being revived despite his doctor saying he was to be pulled...and the band played on. This in the biggest sports event in the world.
Don't blame the doctor here unless he is given the authority on the spot. Which isn't true anywhere in big time sports. Athletes are encouraged to play tough. Shane waived off being pulled prior to getting socked by Cockran. The times are changing but the buck stops with the administration not the team doctor.
Shane's concussion was mild in comparison and his leg was more the ongoing issue and immediate focus in the game from the sideline. During a game it's chaos on the sidelines. It always is.

How can you watch that game and come away with we were not dominated. We outgained ND as well. WTF.
|4 weeks 3 days ago||He was given the best running QB to ever play the game.||
His current #1 and #2 QBs are five star talents. His #1 is still throwing off the wrong foot. The other didn't even play in a 31-0 blowout loss.
Let's not be frogs. The water is boiling now.
I'll look to Indiana, how about November 1st.
Don't be a toady.
I'm not saying Hoke should be fired during the season - but certainly not defended.
