For me it isn't even about the players when it comes to Chicago. I hate their entire organization, the fans, the whole thing. It is just flat out hate. Duke-level hate.

Chicago getting absolutely demolished so convincingly will warm my bitter heart all summer long. Perhaps for years.
I hope, hope, hope that the Keith fade is real and that the Seabrook and Hossa contracts completely impede their ability to reload.

Western? Meh. That was hardly an intimidating venue back then.
I went over to watch M play a game there probably around 92. Sat in the front row of the student section with a friend who was attending WMU, and of course I did the Goal Count chant as we blazed right through them on their ice. (There was a healthy smattering of M fans spread around the rink doing the chant, but few in the WMU student section.)
By the third period I had the entire WMU student section singling me out for the "A-hole!! A-hole!!" chant. It was a beautiful glimpse of how painful Michigan's domination of our opponents was at the time ... just as Red's machine was kicking into full gear.
The girl, who had a great sense of humor, was amazed that Michigan hockey could get all of her schoolmates that riled up.
But it wasn't exactly a wild scene. Or intimidating.

Clicking through to that other Deadspin piece ripping on Mr. I was the worst idea I've had in a while.
Now I have someone else on my Rosenberg List ... mouthy jackasses who trash something good in life entirely for their own self-advancement. That F'er could use a good Vladinator elbow up high.
(Note: do not take this as a reason to click through ... because that's probably exactly what that loser wants)

I was there for that game too. Was working in my first job out of undergrad, and took a buddy from work with me.
The arena was on fire before it all went down, and then it went right ahead and exceeded expectations.
As a guy who grew up going to a lot of Red Wings hockey games (good and bad), I totally agree that we won the Cup that night. There was no question from that point on that we were going to win it all.

As a conservative, "religious" northerner transplanted to the South a decade ago, I've had many conversations on the Rebel Flag. It's funny, because when I bring up my opposition to it and the reasons therefore, I am often dismessed as being a 'liberal Yankee' (which makes me laugh) and someone who "doesn't understand Southern culture."
I generally respond with something along these lines: "Here's what I do understand.-- that flag symbolizes for a great many people one of the worst atrocities in the last few hundred years of civilization, perpetrated on their forefathers, and trickling down to some degree (we can all debate how much, but not "if") to this very day on them. I see very, very few African Americans supporting, wearing, waving, using the Rebel Flag, and most are very deeply offended by it. If you could take a moment to imagine walking in those shoes rather than your own, there really isn't anything 'complicated' about the issue at all."
It usually ends the conversation. Some have gotten mad at me over that. Some have called back later to say they thought about it and finally see the point. Those have been very gratifying moments.

The Legwand trade was a "big deal" only to armchair GMs.
The issue with the club is NOT the absence of Patrick Eaves and Calle Jarnkrok. It is the absence of star players (F and D) to anchor around.
You can't win in the NHL without difference makers. Much was rightly made of our team depth through the glory years ... but all depth and no stars means no chance to win. Zero.
We have no superstars. Glad for Larkin and Mantha (and AA, to some extent), who can be legit, important NHL players. But neither of them appear to be superstar-level players. We need a superstar C, a superstar D, and another star F and star D.
It's going to be a long, long process, I'm afraid.

It would be cool to see the draft order, not just the alphabetized results. Like, was Nico Mariota's 2nd rounder? His 8th?

Who is saying a 5-star RB is all we need?
What does talking about the formula for the '97 title have to do with anything?
Who is saying a 5-star RB is now necessary in CFB to win a title?
None of these "points" have anything to do with how valuable Najee projects to be if he dons the winged helmet. The fact is there is ample reason to think that he changes our near-term projections signficantly if he chooses Michigan.

Getting snaps, but limited snaps.
He's about to get himself a ring, though ... that's what he's doing.
Once the guys ahead of him go pro this year, it will be interesting to see what he does as a starter.
|16 weeks 1 day ago||L'il Hutch||
If he is like his daddy (perhaps one of the least-remembered Michigan all-Americans these days, thanks to modern history starting in approx the mid-90s with the spread of the internet and all), he will be a monster on the d-line.
I'll take the high side of the over/under bet on whether history judges him worthy of Rivals250 / Scout300 acclaim.

I'm assuming the multi-billionare will be smart enough (or have advisors smart enough) to remind him/her that he/she would have to pay taxes on his/her winnings ... and the "headline" amount is the PV of the annuity option, not the immediate payout... and therefore $500MM is not nearly enough to cover the cost of 212MM tickets.
The post-tax, balloon payout of a "$500MM jackpot" is a little less than $200MM. So a pretty bad deal on $424MM of ticket purchases to ensure victory while hoping to not split the pot.

They have some young talent on the DL. And Lewerke didn't look entirely hopeless at QB.
Big issues on the OL though ... not sure who they have there that would give them hope. Then again, I've thought that in the past but somehow the Spartan "conditioning program" works its magic.
