Alex Kozan says hello from the Auburn campus chapel.
Danwillhor is totally correct in that for those players/families where a religious connection is a big deal, the southern schools have a huge leg up.
I'm not sure we know enough from Sam Webb's interview as to have a good sense on how big a deal that really is to Rashan and his mom.

|4 weeks 1 day ago||The difference||
The difference is you're not likely surrounded by a bunch of highly compensated adults every day who beat it into your skull on a regular basis that you're in a fishbowl 24/7 and should do whatever it takes to avoid said dumb shit.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||Drinking?||
I seriously doubt this was just a drinking incident.
Jim has plenty of personal experience with drinking issues. No way he straight up boots a guy off the squad for ONLY that.
Now it may turn out that alcohol was involved in whatever happened. But it's a very safe bet that whatever it was, it was very serious. Jim has been around the block ... publicly canning a veteran player and explaining it with "conduct unbecoming" ... that's smoke from a very significant fire.

He wasn't exactly chosen over Pocic. He was a late-ish add when the view on OL numbers had changed (increased)... the Pocic ship had long sailed at that point.
Samuelson was glad to trade up. Pocic was in a different boat than that.
Now you can argue Pocic vs Bosch for sure. That was the real decision at hand at the time.

I try to stop thinking of them as kids once they enter the program. Because they aren't. It slips into my lexicon from time to time as well, but the reality is this is his third year here. It isn't kids' play anymore for LTT or anyone else on the team.

There is a culture of subtle (or not-so) douchebaggery among the higher-ups on that staff that goes back a long, long way. Well before they split up with Tom Beaver.
Glad Brian called them out.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||He was a killer from the get-go||
I was at the UVa game and Charles had two PBUs that were both very nearly highlight reel INTs. When he came in for the injured Steve King, the Hoos targeted him right away ... he gave up a play, but then was a total monster.
If Brian is drooling (rightly so) over #26's coverage in this game, he would be ga-ga over Woodson's first appearance on the field.
It was really only the game at MSU against a very excellent Mushin Muhammad that Charles really took any Freshman lumps.
Charles was all that. He really, truly was. The moment he came into that first game you could see he was on an entirely different level, first as an athlete and second as a guy whose football IQ blossomed almost immediately (I'm talking in the context of a small number of plays, not games or years). I was in the northeast corner of the stadium about 30 rows up, sitting with a buddy who played WR at CMU ... we were just floored at what we saw. It was very plain to the naked eye.
Having him and David Bowens on the field at the same time ... most freakish pair of game-changing D talents I've seen together at 'M.' Good grief, if only someone could have gotten Bowens to go to class....

I'd like to keep up my track record as a sexist jackass when it comes to such questions and pick some hottie off the women's teams ... but there really were none that stand out from my vintage (early-mid 90s). Though a couple were kind of cute, the teeny little gymnasts never rang my bell. The women's hoops, softball, volleyball, field hockey and T&F teams were pretty barren in those days. Maybe the McCorkel twins on the golf team?
Absent a knockout chica, I'll change up my criteria entirely and vote for pure sports awesomeness and say that the Olympian swimmers of that era that John U recruited (Barrowman, Borges, Wunderlich, Namesnik (RIP) and Dolan) were a mighty crew. It was pretty amazing to have that group of super-accomplished athletes on campus together (more or less -- Dolan and Barrowman didn't overlap). Heckuva run for the Maize & Blue.
|46 weeks 3 days ago||Loeffler||
I think you are paintng a VERY overly-rosey picture of Scot's track record post-Michigan. No one is talking about him as HC material.
For the record, I was very much on the Loeffler side of the equation in the "who should be calling the plays, Loeffler or DeBoring" debates of the last Carr years (esp '07, when many reported that Scot was the one who finally got his way in putting together the aggressive game plan in the bowl game against UF).
But ... he has not shown anything of significance to support the idea of him being a coaching prodigy. Is he at least a competent grinder? Sure. But that's a low bar. He's turned out to be quite ordinary.
|1 year 1 week ago||I totally agree with not||
I totally agree with not viewing our team as a 'product on the field.'
I gave up my 20 years-running season tickets when Bradon hired Hoke because I was pretty sure that Brandon expressly DID view our guys as a product. And he saw us as the suckers who would take anything served to us and like it.
Sometimes being right is miserable.
|1 year 5 weeks ago||Bosch tools||
Very unlikely he's related to the Bosch family of Bosch Tools. The company in question is a massive German multinational ... as in more than $50Billion in sales and 300,000 employees. (The home tools business is a relatively small part of what they do ... they are also a HUGE auto and industrial components manufacturer -- it's just that consumers recognize the brand because they come in contact with the tools.)

I think 300 would be a pretty solid number as well ... and I think the delta between Total Offense and Devin Gardner Offense is likely to be well under 50 yards.
|1 year 50 weeks ago||Stribling||
He's all of about 15 months into playing CB seriously. Prior to the 'M' camp before his senior year he was all about playing WR.
Something tells me when we get through these freshman growing pains we are going to be VERY happy with him on the field....

... Mikey Weber as a Wolverine. (fingers crossed)
I go back a ways in recruiting (LoL) and I am struggling to remember being more excited about a pair of RBs in one class than I would be with MW and Damien H . Could be our answer to UGa's class of Gurley/Marshall.

|2 years 2 weeks ago||NCAA and MSU||
>>MSU is too small of a program for the NCAA or the national press to waste their time with.
That is exactly why the NCAA might do something.
They would never voluntarily do something to a program that matters (financially).

Even if we got JuJu, I doubt we would see a lot of Peppers+JuJu+Dymonte+Countess. I can see Dymonte taking Thomas Gordon's spot next year (he had better!) but I doubt JuJu displaces Jarrod Wilson ... more likely that he would be Wilson's successor.
It will be interesting to see if Raymon Taylor can hold off Stribling (maybe), Hollowell (probably) and Lewis (maybe) by the end of NEXT year.
I would bet we do see lots of Peppers though....

I don't want to read too much into your comment about the CT line's struggles -- and the absence of praise for Finely. (well, actually I *DO* want to ... but figure I should ask)

You show Pat as a 3/4* borderline. I think you were thinking of Mike, the TE, class of '04.
Pat was a near-consensus 4*+ guy in the same class as Pierre Woods -- 2001?
In the 'where is he now' annals, Pat is a big-time guy (for his age) in high finance these days, just FYI. Works at a very well-established private investment firm in OH.
|3 years 28 weeks ago||Great Daily article, BUT...||
... the editors need to bone up on their Michigan timeline: in the spring of 1990 the Fab Five were not months away from enrolling, they were a year and a few months away.
1991 was a pretty darned good calendar year in Michigan sports, following up on the disappointment of 1990 (which included the aforementioned hockey tourney screwing; the Bo Kimble and Loyola catastrophe in hoops; being ranked #1 in football twice only to lose the heartbreaker at ND and the Sparty mugging of Desmond in the end zone on the extra point, relegating a very talented team to the Gator Bowl; and missing on Michigan uber-legacy Eric Montross in hoops recruiting).
In 1991, Desmond won the Heisman and we earned a trip to the Rose Bowl, the Fab Five signed on in the Spring and then immediately turned the world upside down whenthey showed up in the Fall, and we finally made the NCAA hockey tournament that Spring.
Among the students who were hard core sports fans, I wouldn't say the hockey part of that was as big as the others (it clearly wasn't) ... but emotionally it was HUGE. The sense of relief, accomplishment and pride for that group of guys was really palpable on campus. I think everyone who had felt that kick in the gut along with the 1990 team was openly overjoyed in 1991. I remember people hugging in the stands and screaming their minds out about it. To me it was the start of what would become Yost as we know it.
|3 years 30 weeks ago||Lacy not practicing is about||
Lacy not practicing is about as devastating to them as Mike Hart not practicing while he was here. In other words, big whoop. The guy is an absolute load, better than any RB we faced last year. He has seen tons of action already, and that is a veteran OL and QB he's working with.
In fact, it is almost less of a big deal to them than when Mike H didn't practice for us. With Lacy out, that other Hart (Dee) and early enrollee TJ Yeldon with both get tons of valuable reps.
Bama's backfield may not have the foursome that LSU rolled out there ... but their top three are better, IMO (assuming Dee is all the way back by the fall). Devastating group, esp since those OLs came back rather than jumping early.
I'm assuming Demens is up worrying at night about tackling Lacy. At least he had better be. He has to play his best game of his career, period. As does BWC, to state a more obvious one. Lacy is going to be running downhill right at those two ... hopefully not right through them though!!
|3 years 30 weeks ago||Bama's QB||
IDK Hart20 ... my Bama in-laws (veteran eyes, to say the least) seem to think McCarron projects out as the best QB they've had in quite some time.
He clearly got a LOT better as the season went on last year. He looked pretty darned good against that LSU D in the title game.
