5 weeks 3 days ago | I've been hoping for that |
I've been hoping for that too, but he's already well into his playbook of trading off the future of the franchise to win now. The pile of talent they had coming up a few years ago is largely either a) up on the Big League club (or nearly so) or b) traded off already. So while they have the pocketbook to swallow his salary (or much of it), I don't know that they have the assets to send back that would make it worth handing them our hometown hero (if only from a PR standpoint).

6 weeks 6 days ago | If Winston went Blue, he |
If Winston went Blue, he would almost for sure be a better player than he is today. Beilein's guards >> Izzo's guards The facts are the facts on the track record of developing back court players. That doesn't guarantee Winston would be better off here, but there's a pretty strong set of indicators to that end. At this point, it's Winston's loss. Turns out we're just fine without him.

Can't stand figure skating. Hate it. But those two Russian girls. OMG. Sometimes you know you're watching history. They really, really look like the two best figure skaters who ever lived. The 18 year old is already statistically in that discussion. When do they go as individuals? Monday and Tuesday night? |

9 weeks 1 day ago | Roy Tarpley could tell some |
Roy Tarpley could tell some stories about how friendly the AAPD was back in his day. And Derrick Alexander (aka the Unintentional Destroyer of Random Parked Cars). To your other point, though ... to my knowledge none of that had anything to do with sweeping sexual assault under the rug.

No question that a lot of things did go screwy this season. Until further notice, I blame the Pope.

10 weeks 3 days ago | ESPN's story may have |
ESPN's story may have included some half-truths, but if MSU tries to declare victory over it on that basis that would be much akin to Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall) shouting "we demand an apology!" at the senators after the inquisition of Michael Corleone fell apart in Godfather II.

12 weeks 3 days ago | No, it was Brady in the 1st, |
No, it was Brady in the 1st, Henson in the 2nd (threw a pick and a huge bomb TD) and then Brady in the 2nd half. Brady was 30-of-41 for 285 yds and 2TDs. He was 6 of 11 for 44 yards when Henson came in. But that was the Plaxico game: he caught 255yrds on us, Burke threw for an even 400.

We did start Brady against MSU. He started every single game that season. Henson rotated in.

Nothing nefarious. But you are probably correct in inferring that there was some friction. Two former BMOCs, but with very, very different styles. Pretty sure nothing major lingering now ... just not meant to be.

Butch W, Jon Vaughn and the great Tony Boles would certainly be in the discussion on that one. But Wheats is my all-time favorite too, so I'll side with you there!

Why the bike gloves for typing? I've never heard of someone doing that before. Outdoor job? |
13 weeks 4 days ago | Wimbush struggled so much |
Wimbush struggled so much down the stretch (once teams realized he really was that terrible at passing) that he got benched in their bowl game. His replacement (Ian Book) is a very good passer ... he came in and led them to victory over LSU. He's also not a statue ... not Wimbush, but certainly a reasonable threat to run. Officially they will have a QB competition in Spring and Fall, but I think the Domers expect Book to start and Wimbush to be the backup.

Wow, I had no idea Savage made a $1400 firearm. It's been a long time since I looked at them, but in the back of my mind had them pegged as a lower end brand than that.

17 weeks 2 days ago | There is little doubt about |
There is little doubt about the UGa bagmen. The state changed its laws about FOIA requests for Kirby (at his request), and the Lt Governor came right out and said "I hope it helps us land a national championship." And shortly thereafter UGa goes into its old recruiting stomping grounds (cough, cough) of NYC and Philadelphia to swipe five stars Isaiah Wilson (long considered by everyone under the sun a lock to us, no less) and DeAndre Swift. And now this avalanche of 5* talent. Athens is fine and all (I have family there), but come on.... They land two five stars (Anderson and Cox) in the early signing period at a position where UGa doesn't even currently have a position coach on their staff?
By the way, they already have three of the top ten juniors in the country committed.

17 weeks 5 days ago | There were two: 1) |
There were two: 1) Transformers JetFire toy (first generation -- because that's how old I was). I just liked F14s. 2) Shogun Warriors Dragun -- I had Great Mazinga (gen 3, I think -- spaceship/brain was not removable) and Godzilla, and later got Raydeen. But Dragun was the one with the ninja stars and battle axes (both firing), and was the one that got away.

18 weeks 5 days ago | I find the Tate Forcier |
I find the Tate Forcier comparisons woefully short of reality. I understand the perceived need to compare him to someone who previously wore our helmet, but in this case that greatly mis-sets the expectations created by the forced analogy. Short-ish, fast-ish white guy who runs around and does some unscripted stuff? Okay. But that's where it ends. Patterson is far closer to Manziel at this level of football than he is to Forcier. I know I'm swimming against the Brian and Space Coyote tides here, but I'll stick with that position until I see more evidence otherwise.

19 weeks 6 days ago | But you can't just call them |
But you can't just call them Division 1 and Division 2. You have to come up with names that mean something, so that you can excite the fan base and pay homage to the character and traditions of the conference. Going alliterative didn't work; maybe this time we can try rhyming. |
19 weeks 6 days ago | SCAR is not good. I've |
SCAR is not good. I've watched them a little bit this year and was not impressed. 8-4 because NC State was one of those teams that could have won big but also was capable of losing to almost anyone ... and the SEC East was historically pathetic. So don't overread that headline 'W' or their record.
They really, really didn't beat anyone this year. That #107 ranking for their offense is not misleading ... they were very unimpressive on the hoof.
This ought to be a game where we can get a good bit of traction for Peters to build from.

Dude, why so insensitive? "Mentally retarded" is unacceptable ... unless you're talking about our safeties' play in pass coverage, at which point social mores are entirely irrelevant.

LSU is going to get wiped off the map in Tuscaloosa tonight thanks to that poll putting UGa ahead of Bama. That was all Saban needed.

24 weeks 3 days ago | Good luck with that if they |
Good luck with that if they do. Webb and Lorenz are the top two recruiting scoop guys around the Michigan program. Their staffs are there to generate mostly filler content to keep the people who are checking back for fresh material at any given moment placated. Newkirk is good, but it's a side gig for him. The rest of the guys are all just guys, IMO. I don't see any of them developing a credible rival to the 247/scout crew.
