I too believe we need to hold the D coaches accountable for the defense being so bad year after year. We need to clean house and let a new DC hire his own staff and give him total control over the d. Chip Kelly does this he doesnt even pay attention to his d just leaves it up to his defensive coaches and i think Rich needs to do something similar to that. I think we all defense is only link holding this team back from contending for titles!

the linebacker play this season is pretty bad as well! I do think it has a lot to do with the D line being a little undersized, especially when Martin isnt in the game. Lets hope Gerg dials up alot pressure this weekend or pryor will simply sit back there a pick our young secondary apart!

I dont think GERG is the sole problem. Its a lot of things rolled into one. We need to fire all the defensive coaches and bring in a Defensive coach that can recruit big time talent and develop are youngsters on D into a good defense. Something along the lines of what are opponent today did this year.. I wouldnt mind bring in someone along the lines of Bumpas or even Casteel both good quality DC in the country!

if you give up 65 points in a ball game you can say they looked good. I saw improvements in tackling and third down defense as well as mixing up looks for Illinois. But we need to go in a different direction and get back to making this defense dominant in the Big 10 again. This team will not go where we want it to go unless this defense improves drastically! That being said i am extremely proud of the boys today!

RR is a offensive mastermind and knows how to recruit/coach O. My biggest concern and frustration with him is he seems to want to influence the defense and micro manage his DC. I loved the Shafer hire and was upset with the whole 3-5-3 force thing! Then I was hoping for a DC that was well known and very much qualified to come to A2 and hire his own staff and get after it. I was happy with the GERG hire at first but was dumb founded when i heard GERG couldnt hire his own staff. I feel RR is too loyal to his Def WVU boys and that is a issue. I hope DB evaluates the team and if he decides to keep RR (would i really hope he does!) he tells rich he needs to hire a DC and the DC get to put together HIS scheme and his staff! Can you imagine this team if they fielded a decent Defense, would would easily be to 20 team.

I give GERG some slack because the talent and depth simply isnt there. But C'mon man put some pressure on the opposing teams to at least help out our young secondary. Keep only rushing 3 and we will see more of the same on Defense!

Attrition, youth and lack of talent on the defense is killing this team right now. I am hoping that there will be a change, kinda like Illinois did in bringing in a new staff. We need to get good def college coaches in Ann Arbor and recruit defensive talent and suddenly we could look alot like that good ball club that hails from Eugene Oregon! Rich will bring us back we just need more depth/talent on D!

I feel that this is a step in the right direction defensively. I love that Cam brings the wood when he tackles, but he just gets beat and misses some tackles/assignments. maybe he is better suited for a pos. closer to the the LOI. Vinopal probably is a little more comfortable at safety and will be a little fundamentally better, only because Cam is converted WR to S and Ray has some experience playing the position is HS. my only concern with ray is his lack of size. We will have to wait and see
I enjoyed it a lot! Im excited for the future with RR at the helm. We just need to get bigger and faster at Defense. Im confident that we will in time!
mind that RR likes the 3-5-3, if they use four man fronts against power teams! I just wished they blitzed alot more. the 3-5-3 can be lethal if you blitz periodically. The offense would never know where the rush is coming from. Obviously Gerg is cautious because of all the youth on defense. Hopefully we start seeing some pressure put on opposing qb's.
